Gladys is the real deal! Her voice has always been one of the strongest, most pitch-perfect voices in the business. She has MANY excellent offerings. Enjoy !
@ruddock7 I agree 100%. Certainly one of them! There have been many incredible female voices over the decades. But somehow, Gladys' voice covers all the marks. Perfect pitch like Whitney and Ronstadt. Sweet and melodic, like Roberta Flack, big powerful like Aretha and Jennifer Holliday. Yet when compared to the lot of them, Gladys had/has it all! ✌️💜🎶
Gladys Knight is one of the greatest of all time. She is 4 days younger than another great and her close friend Patti LaBelle, both ladies still going strong and sounding great at age 80.
Love you guys and your reactions. Wishing both of you all the best throughout the year of 2025 and well beyond. Keep up the good work with Gladys Knight And The Pips, as well as all the artists and songs that you react too.
Where ever you're reacting to music from you are really diving into serious R&B classics with this one. As a pre teen I remember vividly locking myself in my room and playing this song over and over when my parents announced they were getting divorced. It still chokes me up to this day and I'm now 60.
This song won them the Grammy Award for Best Pop Song by Duo or Group and they also won Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance by Duo or Group for the huge hit Midnight Train To Georgia that same year
Gladys Knight is a G.O.A.T. She is one of my all-time best female voice in music history. She is considered by music critics worldwide as one of the greatest female vocals in music history. She is a legend and she influenced and inspired many female artists in the music business. Great artist of Motown.
This song brings back old, old memories. I'm 65 and my dad was old enough to be my grandfather. When i was a teen, I was playing Neither One of Us over and over until he said he was sick of it. I was so offended the way that only a teenager can be with their parents and told him "Gladys Knight is the greatest singer in the world!" He told me "The greatest singers in the world are Billy Eckstein or Ella Fitzgerald." My ignorant self had no clue who he was talking about and at the time, didn't care and I had the nerve to argue with him (*gasp* but that's how much I loved Gladys. (At least I knew who Else Fitzgerald was but had no idea who Billy Eckstein was.) 😂
Growing up on the farm in the 60's north of Detroit, I felt so near to Hitsville, USA the recording studio where Barry Gordy created the Motown sound, so many great groups Diana Ross and the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5 including Michael, the Temptations, the 4 Top's, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, and many more including this Great Group Gladys Knight and the Pip's👍 listening to CKLW 24/7 with all Motowns Best 🎶music🎶 and I loved every minute 😅 Peace✌️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary😊 Great Reaction 👍 more Motown please 🙏 💙 and Thank you. Another good one "That's What Friends are For" Dione Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Gladys Knight 😅
Gladys Knight was with Motown 1968 to 1973, the year they signed with Buddah was 1973, the single of this song was released December 1972, and the album was released January 1973 by Motown records, Gary✌️ @FrankNardulli
I have a Gladys story for you. I saw her at the Montreal Jazz Festival singing her songs and at the end she said to me jazz everybody takes a turn and proceeded to introduce her band one by one. Her 18 year old guitarist from Detroit was phenomenal as each band member was. When it came to her keyboardist who was also the musical arranger, he was surrounded by keyboards and I expected a great keyboard solo. Instead he started scat singing. He went way down in the lower bass registers and then leaning backward, back arched looking straight up he hit really high notes. Amazing.
It doesn't matter if you say 'neether' or 'neither', 'eether' or 'either'. Both pronunciations are OK. I say both, depending on what comes out of my mouth. Thanks for reacting to Gladys Knight...one of my favorite vocalists of all time and she has some of the best songs. Please react to more of her songs.
@@FrankNardulli I'm 68 years Old and have lived in Detroit (MOTOWN) my Entire Life and Gladys Knight is a Detroiter and was part of the Motown Sound !!!! Motown was a Sound and not just a Record Label !!!!!!
Definitely listen to Midnight Train To Georgia. Try to find a live video because watching her and the Pips adds so much to the song. Love you two and your reactions to some of my favorite music. 🙂💜
Spot on, guys, it is the unknown new beginning which impedes moving on. Will it be better or worse? Will it be a big mistake? One may think there's something to hold on to and one may not. Great 70s pick, loved all her stuff from back then. 👍😊
Gladys Knight & the Pips were a great R&B/soul/funk family music group that started out in the 50's & had hits over 4 decades. They had a lot of great songs such as "Midnight Train To Georgia", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Every Beat Of My Heart", "Nitty Gritty", "Friendship Train", "If I Were Your Woman", "I Don't Want To Do Wrong", "I've Got To Use My Imagination", "I Feel A Song (In My Heart)", "On & On", "Love Overboard" etc.
Great reaction to a beautiful song. You should both do yourself a favor and look up on youtube a version of this song that's taken from a clip from Soul Train, a television show that ran back in the day. You will get a chance to see the Pips choreography, which was also one of their trademarks. Wonderful entertainment.
No the relationship is over but they are both scared to end it and at the end she finally says goodbye for the both of them. She sings "Farewell, my love goodbye" is the last lyric of the song. Gladys Knight is a legend right up there with Aretha Franklin. Her voice is pure gold. She and the pips had many great hit songs over the years, she also has some solo gems.
Gladys is one of the best female singers of this generation, love all her music and The Pips, listen to If I were Your Woman and Midnight Train to Georgia
At the end when she takes a deep breath and finally says "Farewell my love, goodbye" it's so heartbreaking as she clearly has decided that their relationship is over. Listen to Gladys Knight and The Pips do the incredible "Midnight Train To Georgia" for another emotional vocal ride from the incredible Gladys Knight. If you want more incredibly passionate, emotional singing with a one in a lifetime voice, listen to the unbelievable Jennifer Holliday singing "And I Am Telling You" from her live 1982 Grammy performance.
Love Gladys Knight!! Please react to her doing, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine “. Gladys Knight was the first to record the song in 1967. Marvin Gaye recorded his iconic version the next year. In my opinion, Gladys version is killer!!!! Please check it out 😁😉👍
What a great reaction to one of my alltime favorite song, Gladys Knight is a G.O.A T. May i suggest you to try "Kiss Away The Pain" by Patti LaBelle and the late great George Howard on the saxophone, it sure worth a listen.
Growing is a slow process, weather it's together or apart, it's not something that happens overnight. The song implies that, currently they are at an impasse. I think it's good that Gladys didn't resolve it for us. Leaves it up to us. 🙂
These guys ere so good. You really though need to see them, their choreography is a big part of the fun. Try their song Midnight Train To Georgia, a live version. You will love it! Thanks for sharing this one. Oh, and as for "neither", listen to the song Let's Call The Whole Thing Off, it will make you chuckle.
Yes, you two - y'all are great together... whether pronounced "NI-ther or NE-ther"... at the end of the day, the meaning still means "without." But those are just "grammar-verbal technicalities!" Lol. You two together are a great pair, and I look forward to your future song, music, and video reviews... let's Go... 🎤 🎼!
*Fun fact here: Ms Gladys Knight (the female lead singer on this song)... at her current, ripe "old age," of 80 years! 😲😁 Yes, this premier vocalist still performs to this day... and tours extensively! Do yourselves a favor pls... and "co-mingle" your next visit to the US, with a Gladys Knight performance... you will NOT be disappointed!
Sometimes we know it is over but it takes how ever long is needed to finally part separate ways. This song is about it really being over. It’s a process; a definite loss when you finally take the action.knowing there’s no going back. Thank you for your reaction.
After 17 years we fell apart. Both of us were changed people. Those sad memories come back when I hear this song. We split on good terms and remain friends. But...... We had many "our songs" and this was the last one.
Gladys also had a chain of chicken & waffle restaurants around Atlanta for many years & she let her sons run the business & they bankrupted it a few years ago & they are no more & they served some excellent soul food ✌💖☮
You two are a cute and sweet couple or you appear to be. And your review/reaction channel is one of the best, most believable and not fake. And sometimes deep too.❤❤❤
This is on my list of the saddest and most beautiful songs of all time with about twelve others like "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro and "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt and "Don't Cry Daddy" and "My Boy" by Elvis.
“Friendship Train” 1969 studio version is another great one by Gladys Knight. Very different and upbeat from this one. It has funky bass, cowbell, fuzzy guitar, horns, the great vocals of Gladys and a timeless message in the lyrics. Hit it!
Gladys is the real deal! Her voice has always been one of the strongest, most pitch-perfect voices in the business. She has MANY excellent offerings. Enjoy !
I went to watch her a few years ago in Leeds and she sounded exactly the same. The most beautiful voice and storyteller in the business.
