I’m 65 and I’m so glad I grew up in the 60s/70s with this music. This must be nearly 45 years old,I wonder how many songs nowadays will still be played in 45/50 years time.
@@tomschmitz261 Say Whaaaaat??? With all due respect, I disagree. Gladys and Aretha are def top 2. The heart wrenching emotion that comes through their voices, and their effortless vocal skill -- they just do it for me. Check out "Angel" by Aretha -- one of my favs.
I loved both of your faces as you listened to this beautifully emotional song. This was THE best era of music, ever! Loved Gladys Knight and the Pips. ❤
Gladys Knight and the pips : midnight train to Georgia, I heard it through the grapevine, if I were your woman, help me make it through the night, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me
They just don't make em like this anymore, not even close. Elegant. Soulful. Beautiful. Storytelling. What a class talent, to me one of the absolute finest singers of the 70s or any decade. Sheer brilliance.
She was on the first season of the Masked singer and sounded great. Many fans of hers who follow that show like myself wish she would release her version of each song she sang on the show
It don't get any better then this ,Gladys reaches to the core of being,I am totally old school too and this song is so far up there I can't even reach it,so well put together this is what r&b use to be.
Someone other than myself mentioned BARBRA STREISAND in the comments to this song. It's time to react to BARBRA STREISAND. BTW Ms. Gladys is supreme, that voice and this song are out of this world.
They really don't have music today. All they have is oversampled mix tracks stealing snippets of yesterday's music. The age of the music artist died somewhere in the mid 90's.
Hi Shawn and Mel, wasn't that so beautiful? Gladys Knight sang like an angel. She and the Pip's are one of my top ten favorite Motown artists of all time. Have you heard Midnight Train to Georgia? I love that one too. Did you notice all the couples slow dancing around the stage? I got tears in my eyes watching that. You never see couples slow dancing like that anymore, with the man holding the woman so tenderly and with respect. It breaks my heart when I see the way performers are dancing today on videos and television. I have been to wedding receptions where young girls are out there copying moves and they do not have a clue what those moves represent. I wish people would dance with respect and caring again. I love dancing and Soul Train had the best dancers on tv.
Nobody sings like her. I would buy a ticket to hear her singing the alphabet. Props to the late Jim Weatherly, who wrote this and other Gladys Knight hits including "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me."
You know how great actors make you forget that they're acting? That's the effect that singers like Gladys cause - the connection is that direct, and there's not a fraudulent note to be heard.
Gladys Knight and Pips didn't get the attention they needed from Motown Records. They do (another) great version of " I Heard It Through Grapevine". They signed with Buddah Records, and things changed. Starting with this song, which was recorded on the Motown Label, they had 5 top 5 hits on the Pop charts in 73/74. 4 with Buddah, which was the same amount of top 10s they have with Motown form 61-72. Midnight Train to Georgia, On and On, Your the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me, I've Got to Use My Imagination. Along with If I Were You're Woman and I Feel A Song In My Heart Again which are gems in their catalog.
Completely agree! She was competing with Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick etc. and in my opinion she has the most beautiful voice out of all of them! She's truly a classic!
It's amazing that she got a variety show and had the notoriety but never got the big record deal and promotion as a single artist that others did. Truly a misjudgment on the industry's part.
The way she sings this song sends me into melancholy and wistfulness like no other song does. The little "cry" or crack in her voice when she hits higher notes; the plaintive lyrics; and just her bare soul gets me every time I hear this classic tune. Thanks for reacting to it!
I used to play this song to make me cry when my wife and I split up. Such a beautiful voice and song, My generation was blessed with awesome music. Love you guys, keep em coming ♥️♥️
Actually only one was her brother he was known as Bubba and the other two were their cousins. You can do a Google search and find that. I happened to have gone to the same high school when she graduated I think I was a sophomore. Back down memory lane. Oh how time flies. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I am so thankful that my mom introduced me to great music like this when I was a child. She would always play great classic soul and Motown. Music today just can’t compare!! Gladys hits you directly in the heart ❤️
Yes this song was a masterpiece in its day it's extremely hard to pick one artist as you have now mastered I appreciate the gifts and talents that was giving to Us by yah the father I am from that era 60 years old I drive these back roads today many times listening to some of this music can bring you to tears I am not kidding cafes is a hot thing today let me give you a song the ordells sipping a cup of coffee enjoy
I saw this as a girl! My friends would watch American Bandstand but I liked Soul Train! The depth of emotion along with those marvelous pipes makes Gladys an icon and the Pips were smooth as silk baby! Thank you for sharing. 😽💋🎶
@@samueltabo3390 Why did you have to switch? Soul train came on after American Bandstand ended. We watched them both , one after the other on ABC was Bandstand, Soul Train was on CBS. Soul Train was originally on an all Chicago network, but after it gained in popularity, it became an affiliate of CBS,I believe.
In my humble opinion, Gladys Knight is the greatest female soul singer ever, including Aretha Franklin. Please, please check out "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," it's a much more positive and uplifting song and can be applied to many relationships: husbands & wives, mothers & daughters... Also, she absolutely killed a duet with Boys II Men "End of the Road." Thankfully, she is still with us and was on tour last year. Hers is one of those voices that get better with age. Thank you for that reaction, guys.
Wow! Gladys’ voice is amazing! She is always going to be Auntie Gladys to me! No one can ever match those golden vocals! That voice gets you in the heart every time! ❤️❤️
One of my favorite female voices of all time. Gladys is a strong beautiful woman, a talent and true gift to all of us. I feel lucky to have been alive at the same time as her so I could listen to her angelic voice. Now that’s music
The clarity of her voice building to a crescendo...the lyrics.
If you hear this song and don't get misty-eyed, you have no heart or soul!
They don’t sing like this today. She just SANG. It’s not overproduced. Just gorgeous.
I love Gladys Knight!

Goosebumps and melancholy tears listening to her. Plus 70s childhood memories. It's also nice to see people slow dancing.
She has a beautiful voice
Gladys Knight sang with a beauty and passion that will never be surpassed - sheer glorious talent by a very classy lady ! 💜
And she STILL does. 😉
The natural beauty in the day was stunning.
Yes,,fan of all her music
Love Gladys since 1973 still on every playlist I make
I am so blessed to have lived this music....Gladys...one of Thee best.
My Mom used to say that Gladys Knight has the most soulful voice of any singer ever.
She is my absolute favorite female singer of all time.
Motown in the 60's and 70's was absolutely the best music era of all time!!!!
Gladys Night is one of the most underrated singers in history. She's up there with Aretha, Barbra and Whitney.
I would personally put her ABOVE those three... for me, there is Gladys, Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline and???
Whitney ? Try Donna and Linda or even Patti her other contemporaries , Houston is not the same category .
Mavis takes 'em all.

Gladys Night and The Pips nothing but class.
what a national treasure. Such a beautiful an elegant soul.
Back in the day we had that sweet smooth mellow flavor music pure and clear that brings back so many memories.
Listen to Gladys Knight and the Pips sing the song
You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me. This song is very appropriate for a couple. 💑

I'm 71 and this song still brings tears to my eyes! Beautiful lady, The Empress of Soul!
Gladys is still touring! I saw her a few years ago and she didn’t miss a beat! Her voice is still as strong and beautiful! Truly the Queen!
I saw her and the O'Jays together in concert in 2015.
Beautiful as she and voice is Aretha is the queen of soul
At one time she also had a Las Vegas residency.
She was on the first season of the Masked singer and sounded great. Many fans of hers who follow that show like myself wish she would release her version of each song she sang on the show

Such a sad but pretty song. And Gladys's voice is as beautiful as she is. Music today can't touch the music of the 70's and 80's

You've just heard one of the classic voices in music history. A true American masterpiece. Back when every song was "performed"!

She's my favorite female singer...
That girl can SANG!!
Whatever way you look at the 70's was a superb period for soul music, a sad song, delivered to perfection. Sing it Gladys ♥
The Pips are Gladys's cousins. Need to do Midnight Train To Georgia.
Love this one, but my favorite of theirs is "If I were your woman". Please react to this!
My fave Gladys Knight song. She is awesome.
This is definitely one of the saddest and most beautiful songs ever recorded. Hit me hard during a breakup a few years back
