  • Use headphones or high quality speakers for best audio and to hear the details. George wanted to showcase the different settings of the Lynch Mod, which is a customized hand wired version of the Hot Mod V2. The Lynch Mod enables more gain and tonal variation out of a stock Marshall amp without needing to permanently modify it. Here he is playing through his 1982 Marshall JCM 800 model 2203 through a greenback-loaded 4x12 cabinet. Enjoy and check out www.legendarytones.com for more information!

    I brought one of these for my 1977 2203. I was so disappointed with the 2203's lack of gain I only played it maybe a dozen time's in 8 years, but with the lynch mod it gives it the gain it should have had stock. I don't know why Marshall never released a 4 pre-amp valve 2203 and the lynch mod doesn't create much feedback if any. I get better tone's with my Peavey 5150 B cab with Sheffield 1200 speakers than those greenbacks they sound a bit harsh and fizzy.

    I wonder if these would work on Jet City JCA20H amps. The only reason i ask is because they are modeled after a Soldano hotrod and i remember Soldano had a hotmod similar to this.

    • @LegendaryTones
      @LegendaryTones  3 роки тому +3

      It actually won’t work on it even though the beginnings of the design were definitely inspired by the Soldano version. However, even the original Hot Mod doesn’t work in the Jet City JCA20H or the Soldano SLO for that matter. Those amps aren’t designed with traditional tone stack cathode followers so the Lynch Mod can’t “see” it and make a connection.

That said, the location of the cathode follower circuit is in different positions in variations of the circuit over time. Yes, if the amp uses a cathode follower tone stack type circuit, it will be able to connect. We have a compatibility list here at the link below. It’s really hard to know if the LM would actually sound good in many of those circuits because I really have it tuned to work best with Marshall-style amps. But the nice thing with the Lynch Mod as well as the latest version Hot Mod V2 Evo is you can insert it into an amp and try and even if it’s the wrong socket or incompatible amp, you won’t damage the amp or the mod. It will either see the cf circuit and connect to it, or it won’t. Feel free to reach out to me at david@legendarytones.com for additional questions and thank you for your interest! Bogner is typically based on modified Marshall circuits so I suspect it might, but wouldn’t know for sure without seeing a schematic (and that would be assuming the schematic actually matched the amp as circuits DO change). The other issue and question is “what would it sound like?” I suspect that it may be noisy in that amp as the Bogner likely has a lot of gain on tap already. But I don’t know for sure. Certainly the mod works really well in the Friedman Runt so people have been discovering lots of interesting uses for it.

      No, not at all. That’s the nice thing about adding the gain stage to the amp. You can turn it up certainly for more compression from the output tubes, but the deep switch also helps provide that at lower volumes as well.

    • @LegendaryTones

      @@viro-de-graphe-matician A big key to the AC/DC tone is volume and compression of the output tubes. You can use an attenuator on your 1959, but I think a post phase inverter master volume mod would be the best start. Granger amplification makes a kit which a tech should be able to help install for you. But in fairness, keeping the volume that low on that amp will always be a compromise solution as that’s not what the amp was made for.

    • @LegendaryTones
      @LegendaryTones  3 роки тому +1

      Many traditional Fender, Marshall, and Vox amps are built on cathode follower type tone stacks. But specifically going to the discussion of the Lynch Mod and applications, I put together this compatibility list and discussed the topic a bit here:
      legendarytones.com/will-my-hot-mod-v2-work-in-x-amp/
      The point being that I don’t recommend the LM for use in any and all cathode follower amps because the circuit wasn’t tuned for them. It was tuned for Marshall’s (or clone types). So even though it would work in a Fender Twin for example, I don’t think it would sound good because I didn’t optimize it for that application.
