To the degree people are even able to achieve them without Christ, such self-righteousness leads to pride. 15:50 Freedom of speech was meant for political purposes, to criticize and hold people accountable by others, and encourage critical thinking. Of course I don’t wish to have this freedom extended to things which serve no purpose other than to serve sin, such as pornography in all its forms.
i am not orthodox, i however respect the modesty and other aspects of orthodoxy. key thing i see as very important to clarify is that through the sacrifice of Jesus we are set free from the debt of sin, when we realize we are incapable of saving ourselves and turn to God for help we receive this gift of grace, we deserve hell and nothing we could do can change that, Grace is that we receive what we don't deserve. we are saved onto good works, good works only come after being saved, this is what i want to separate if you lump works in with grace it is no longer grace, but if someone is saved by grace they will do good works, i was a lukewarm christian. God reformed my heart in an instant and i wanted nothing to do with the sin of my past, God did it and i accepted this gift, i had done no works until after this yet God did not say you need to get baptised or youre too self centered. he saw my heart and saved me then gave me the heart to do good works. if you go to God boasting of what you have done to get into heaven you'll be shut out, because you cant trust in your works, God did it by grace so that no man could boast, i love you God bless
14:40 While I am a Christian, and I do recognize that much of the work of the Renaissance onwards paved the way for our sinful society today. One should not be so eager to throw the baby out with the bathwater, as there were good things done for people in these times, even if it came at the cost of bloodshed. The American Revolution was Christianity coming into its true form, not the traumatized medieval version hiding in its shell of Feudalism. The French Revolution shortly afterwards shows exactly what happens when man is too prideful about themselves, and so they hypocritically resort to tyranny and all other kinds of violence to implement what they believe to be utopia. But the kind of liberty brought about with respect to God is the kind we may yearn for but tread carefully with. Galatians 5:13 “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
Christianity did not come into its true form with the American Revolution as if God couldn't get things right until then. Christianity was right from the start, has been unchanged and "right" until now and will remain so until His second coming.

@luigimrlgaming9484 the catholic church has gone through a lot. The reason it even has a mostly celibate priesthood is because of bishops giving their power to their children. These freedoms are still needed otherwise it is not man's choice to go to God but an obligation. This was not God's original intention by giving us choice to begin with.
Just as Christ gave us the Freedom to Choose to fallow Christ or The Devil, we have the right to Choose to use our freedoms for good or evil. either fallowing Christ and honoring him in all we do or fallowing the devil and destroying Honesty and Truth. Freedom is not bad its wonderful, we are seeing the state of people souls through there choices. Just as eating a slice of pizza is amazing, if you eat the whole thing you will feel sick and probably be on the toilet. The same goes with what people put into their minds. If you allow evil in then evil will rule. Freedom is not bad but good, abuse of the freedom God gave you is however bad.
I love the video, really. I do not come here as a hater. But as a Christian Libertarian, I truly and strongly think that you need freedom to sin and then chose not to do it. If you never had the option to sin, how really good as a person are you? You need to be tested, you need to have the option to sin, otherwise, acting good does not have any value. What do you think guys?
Even if freedom to speak openly is removed, the freedom to obey God is there. It's better to obey God rather than man always but especially in such circumstances. God's kingdom went forward despite Christian persecution and a persecuted capacity for speech.
True freedom is not suppression of desire. True freedom is to overcome its guilt or shame. (Glory to God, not of my own doing) I can enjoy a beer at dinner without it being sinful in my life. Others avoid it altogether because of fear of what it might do to them. Avoiding something out of fear (even in the false guise of righteousness) is not having power over it.. it’s actually that the thing still has power over you. Temperance.. not avoidance, is the true goal, and the true freedom. And it’s about the heart anyway, not the outward action. Are you drinking to avoid dealing with unresolved pain? Or are you having a drink in healthy relationship with God? I’ve seen too many people suffocating their own life trying to be good and righteous.. but their whole focus has turned into this type of self denial, and they’ve missed the point of living freely altogether. They’ve replaced slavery of sin with slavery to fear of failure. And so are a slave to a new type of sin. Jesus drank with the sinners. But he has overcome the accuser. Jesus didn’t free us from outward actions. He freed us from the accusations of our outward actions. Men want to do the work of Satan. Which is to accuse and condemn. And it is this accusation that separates people from God, not the sin itself, I am not saying you are free to do what you know is wrong. I am saying that you don’t always know what’s wrong. And some of what you think is wrong is not. It’s actually the devil suffocating your life. You need to be willing to mess up, with faith in Gods forgiveness to correct when you go wrong. Don’t rely on your own understanding.
I must have missed the part where the video said “don’t enjoy a beer with dinner”. Have to admit, I’m not sure where you got that from. Yet you ran with that to write an entire thesis. Orthodox Christianity has always been about the middle path. Even monks drink liquor on occasion. Also, “true freedom is to overcome the guilt or shame (of desire)” has to be the most dangerous sentence in that misguided paragraph. Sounds like a “pride” slogan.
@@letsreadbrothers You may think that if you don’t understand that LGTBQ individuals are in their position precisely because of internal guilt and shame, of which they are desperately attempting to be freed from. They think freedom will be found if the entire world accepts them, yet the true issue is that they are unable to accept themselves. They will find freedom from their lifestyle when they are freed from the guilt and shame that comes from Christ. Problem is prideful Christian’s too often have the attitude, “I have it figured out, listen to me. Be like me.” Instead of, “Hey, we aren’t so different. I’m lost. You’re lost. But I am finding my way by this God called Christ. He never accused anybody, but he loved being with us, and wants to help us figure it out, whatever pain we have. He just wants to be with you.”
@@Logan91SThe guilt and shame that comes from Christ? What does that even mean? Our guilt and shame comes from our own slavery to sin. Also, no Orthodox Christian worth their salt would *dare* say “be like me”. The whole point of the faith is Theosis, becoming more like Christ. The only true freedom is freedom from sin, and it is only found in Him, and attaining it requires ardent and repeated repentance, confession, and prayer. God be with you, Logan.
@@letsreadbrothers I said the freedom from guilt and shame that comes from Christ. That freedom comes from Christ is what I meant. There is a popular error in people focusing on the erasing of sin as the goal. But so long as that is the focus, they are bound by it. Freedom from sin comes by focusing on the fact that there is no longer and guilt or shame in Christ. It is guilt that traps people in sin, not sin itself (Though guilt is implied in the word sin several times in the New Testament, it is important to make the distinction. They are different. The "power" of sin IS GUILT and CONDEMNATION. But sin itself is by definition "missing the mark.. a mistake"). Guilt is the chain that binds a person to that mistake. This is what Paul describes several times in many ways. Christ defeated sin by erasing our guilt. Our problem isn't that we sin. Everyone sins. Our problem is failing to believe that we are forgiven, as this is the root guilt. Guilt is a good sign that your heart is aimed in the right direction, that conscience is alive. The true battle is living from the freedom that comes by accepting that we are forgiven, and no mistake can now condemn us.
@@Jong853 is this mentioned in the video? I don’t mean my comment to be rude or condescending. I just thought this would be about Orthodoxy and weight training.
I was with you until you started talking about freedom of speech. You said that our words need to be barred against evil as if we need to be barred against murder. These two are not the same and the freedom of speech is much more important than you lead on. Without freedom of speech this video would be barred and everything else unless it fits the narrative of the ones writing it. I believe in Jesus and I believe Freedom of speech is our right. Without it we would be an oppressed people.
Respectfully, you may be missing the point. We *have* freedom of speech, and many other freedoms… and yet we *are* oppressed. By our sin. Don’t forget it’s freedom of speech that allowed university professors and school teachers to indoctrinate an entire generation into transgenderism. Into accepting same-sex unions. Into embracing atheism and hedonism. By the way, there have always been limits on speech. Even in America you cannot make threats or defame someone. That doesn’t sound like freedom of speech. Because we recognise there HAVE to be limits. But those limits MUST be dictated by our love of God, not our love of power.

Hmm so the conclusion 14:35 is we should denigrate freedom of speech? God gave us free will, it’s not for a flawed man to denigrate that free will. Freedom comes from our obedience to God not from advocating against freedom of speech. Some will squander the gift yes, but it’s unnatural to meddle with free will. @@definitelynot9880 I think you may both be missing the point entirely. Freedom of speech is not the problem, he never said it was. The results in our society speak for themselves.
I agree that’s what the point should be but the author of the video spends a lot of time implicitly advocating against free speech with phrases like “we cannot give evil free reign”. I mean yeah sounds about right but two evils (censoring free will) do not make a right. And that’s as close as he gets to explicitly saying free speech = bad. I maintain my position that it’s not.

No one said anything about taking away “freedom” of speech, amigo. Only that it is not real freedom, yet we make an idol out of it, despite it being used for evil. SOME forms of speech are already criminalised, i.e. defamation, threats. So it doesn’t even really exist, even in America.
All actions have consequences. Those consequences affect us, those around us and those who come after us. That's just common sense, if you waste what you have your children will inherit poverty and would only have learnt how to waste from you. So all actions have consequences but this video is not just about making mistakes, it's about sin. Sin is worse than making a mistake and thus has far worse consequences.
@@LetsGo_Brandon where exactly does it say anyone pays for their ancestors' sin? Nobody pays anything for anyone else. We all face our own responsibility. If your father murdered someone, you won't go to jail. If your grandfather stole a million dollars, you won't go to jail. If your father d!ed of a dr√g overdose, you won't also drop d€ad on the floor. So no, we don't pay for the sins of our ancestors. However if your father sits in jail for theft and you're without a father and you become bitter and resentful towards him then you will be held accountable for your own sin of unforgiveness. Yes, your own sin. That's how sins of the ancestors are visited on the children. We all face our own responsibility.
The Father gave us free will so that we would choose to love him. We are not meant to be forced into compliance with his Law by an authoritarian "Christian" state, at the direction of men who claim to wield the authority of God to pursue their own self interest. That is not love for The father. That is not a free and willing pursuit of the Messiah. What you describe is despotism. Your god is authority for its own sake, your god is the State. Your word is blasphemy.
God gives you freedom of speech though. That's free will, he gives you that. You can't just not allow a god given right. If this was a Christian world I'd get it, but its not.

@@prayunceasingly2029 Freedom to sin is freedom. Adam and Eve had the choice. Where did you get this idea of otherwise. If I have the choice to sin I also have the choice to choose Christ. That’s freedom. If I do not have the choice I am a slave, a robot - under law. Just as the Father did not impose on our free will to choose Him or the evil one. I believe our society should reflect this as much as possible being as we are a fallen species. The Father designed us with the ability to choose, out of love. The hardest think for a father to do is to give the child the choice to love him or turn away. That’s love. Because the reward of the child choosing the father is so much more, so much more genuine. The love is real not forced. Think of the story of the prodigal son. The father gave his son what he requested. The son turned away but ultimately it worked out for both of them for their benefit, the love was genuine and strengthened. Without free will or choice this outcome is not possible. If the father in the story would have denied the son’s request, forced him to obey, imposing on his free will, and made him follow the law. The son would not have loved him, seen him as a tyrant and rebuked him. Therefore our society should reflect this ability to choose because the one who chooses Christ does it out of choose not forcefully or of LAW. The one who chooses to use his freedoms to glorify his Father in heaven is praised more than a slave doing what he’s programmed to do. For We are not under law but under grace. Brother tyranny is not the answer. It never was, we must see God the father as an example of how we should model our society. He is NOT a tyrant. But a just Father. A righteous KING. Who gives us the choice whether that causes Him pain or He receives glory from it. Again think Adam and Eve. That’s LOVE. A society that mirrors our God is best. God literally put Adam and Eve in a freedom simulator because He loved them. That’s how He expressed His love by allowing them to freely chose. I’m not advocating for man to walk aimlessly or in an evil manner. As God did not as well. He very clearly told them surely you will die. But the choice remained. As the choice still remains today and I believe America represents the garden the best, I can chose be a drunkard on the street or glorify Christ name on the streets. May God bless you with the grace of Christ.
@ivio2644 Romans 6: 15 - 18 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! 16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
If you step out of your prison you're still a prisoner of the earth and if you can get off-planet you will still be a prisoner of your inevitable death. So freedom is always relative. Freedom is not a case of getting out of prison, it's a case of whether you are able to choose between prisons.

i am not orthodox, i however respect the modesty and other aspects of orthodoxy. key thing i see as very important to clarify is that through the sacrifice of Jesus we are set free from the debt of sin, when we realize we are incapable of saving ourselves and turn to God for help we receive this gift of grace, we deserve hell and nothing we could do can change that, Grace is that we receive what we don't deserve. we are saved onto good works, good works only come after being saved, this is what i want to separate if you lump works in with grace it is no longer grace, but if someone is saved by grace they will do good works, i was a lukewarm christian.

Which sect of the revolution was Christianity in it's true form? They're all protestant sects I think, which don't predate the year 1500.
@@prayunceasingly2029 I’m not sure yet, but they’re only wrong because they take different guesses on how to interpret what is left vague in the Bible. The Catholic and Orthodox Church just straight up decided “this is what is right” without discussion, and then the Catholic Church let themselves get corrupted.
@luigimrlgaming9484 the catholic church has gone through a lot. The reason it even has a mostly celibate priesthood is because of bishops giving their power to their children. So yeah to say the catholic church hasn't responded to corruption and tried to solve it would be incorrect. Political power was likely what should never have become connected to the church, but that's what happens when Christianity becomes the state religion.
@luigimrlgaming9484 ecumenical councils are exactly that - a church discussion and decisions on key issues. And starting from the council of Jerusalem there have been councils to deal with important questions.

You need freedom of speech.
That depends on the definition of "freedom".
@@danielswanepoel9931 Where there is no legal hindrance to speak freely.
Even if freedom to speak openly is removed, the freedom to obey God is there. It's better to obey God rather than man always but especially in such circumstances. Of course I'm a horrible example of obedience to God but may his grace and my repentance through participation with grace grant me more obedience, and grant us all obedience.
@@prayunceasingly2029 Freedom of Speech is Obedience to God. And by the way, this isn't a given freedom, its a taken freedom, taken from oppressors by force by good, strong and Godly men. @@DataWiseStrategies did Peter have freedom of speech when he was hung upside down? Did Paul have freedom of speech when he was beheaded? Did John have freedom of speech when he was sent to patmos as a prisoner? And most of the rest of the apostles when they were martyred, following loyally after Christ?
And it is this accusation that separates people from God, not the sin itself,
I am not saying you are free to do what you know is wrong.

All actions have consequences. Those consequences affect us, those around us and those who come after us.
