RUSSIA'S MOST ICONIC DEPARTMENT STORE "GUM" | Shopping, Soviet Cafeteria + $2 Icecream
- This place is an absolute MUST if you are in Moscow or even many other Russian cities, because GUM is actually a former Soviet department store and it can still be found in many post soviet countries. The one in Red Square in Moscow is probably the most grand and luxurious with its 3 story shopping arcade, beautiful restaurants and a Soviet Cafeteria on the top floor! Come with me as I check out this gorgeous place and make sure you don't miss it on your own travels! xo

For people who have never been to Russia and who are seeing your videos, they have to be looking at them with their mouth open. Russia is such an amazing country and your videos portray that.
That's what I'm hoping for!

8:00 one of the first Russian words I learned was marozhnayeh (ice cream). The ice cream in Russia is so much better than the USA! They use a richer cream and more natural flavours and less chemical extracts.
Morozhenoye is a righ pronunciation. Or marozhenaye in a pure moscowian dialect.
@@TheEbukentiy You are definitely not right. It is very common for _any_ Russian from East to West that vowels "Oh" and"Eh" in unstressed position sound almost like "Ah" and "EEh". There are some little exclusions, i.e. "nizhegorodskii" or "voronezhskii" dialects, however the fact that they are called "dialects" means that such pronunciation is unusual for "plain Russian" living in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Saratov, Omsk, Khabarovsk etc.
So _marozhenayeh_ is absolutely Russian word, not only "muscovite".
The inside of this shopping center looks like something you would only see on a movie
$4 usd for a meal in a place like that wow thats really a good price ..thanks for showing us, Moscow is beautiful...jus like u💘lol
Ya lyublyu tebya moscow ...
After 2014 Russian currency suddenly became two times cheaper so now is a good time for foreigners to visit Russia.
Alina GUM and you suit each other so much. Very convenient and ideal together. Elegant, worthy, beautiful and attractive..... It feels like it is a professional commercial advertisement photo session with a supermodel......
That Mall looks like paradise ! Incredible architecture. That is not " Food court " food. Looks like a 4 🌟 restaurant offering. 😋
The quality of the food was honestly FANTASTIC.
@Antonio Torino We lived so badly under the USSR that 70% of Russians want to go back there again.
@Antonio Torino About repression in the Soviet Union , in the West are greatly exaggerated their scale. I am very touched when Western people judge communism without knowing anything about it. The actual results of Stalin's rule are as follows: from 1921 to 1953 4 060 306 people were convicted for all types of crimes: 799 455 people were shot, 2 631 397 people were imprisoned, 413 512 people were exiled, etc. 215 942 people Respectively 2,15%: 0,42%, 1,39%, 0,22%, 0,11% population of the USSR in 1953. Total killed in the camps 606 748, i.e., of 0.85% of the population. During the war 367 thousand Germans, 228 thousand were deported from the Western regions. Tatars and others. citizens of Crimea, 24 thousand Azerbaijanis, 20 thousand Armenians, 45 thousand Turks, 164 thousand Latvians and Estonians, only 848 thousand people. From the famine of 1932-1933, the population decreased by 2.5 million people. Having survived the devastating losses of the great Patriotic war, for 26 years from 1928 to 1954, the national income of the Soviet Union increased by 12.9 times. The population increased from 137 million to 200 million between 1920 and 1956. The number of students from 1914 to 1954 in schools increased 3.2 times, in technical schools, etc. 34 times, in higher education-13.6 times. The number of researchers increased 21-fold from 1913 to 1954. The number of doctors from 1913 to 1954 increased by 12.6 times. Housing stock in cities and towns increased 2.8-fold from 1926 to 1954. The real income of the workers from 1918 to 1954, the workers grew 6 times, the peasants 6.5 times. These data were published in 1996 by the historian Zemsky V. N. he Worked on this topic together with American scientists. And these are official figures. But this is the case of the past, in my time, not any repression was not and there were many advantages. Free medicine ( of any complexity of the operation), free education (primary, secondary, higher), free housing was issued, students did not look for work after the Institute, and the state immediately provided him with a job, there was no unemployment and inflation, no crises and no homeless, etc. in General, it was comfortable to live.
@Antonio Torino What's wrong with that?
They did have Lentil patties in the Soviet Union. I've seen the recipe in cookbooks for vegetarians published in 1982.

Well, I have to say this time it's difficult to judge who is more stylish and beautiful - Alina McLeod or Moscow GUM? I think you two both compliment each other really well, as both of you quite stunning.
Cheers!
I was there August 1991. It looked very different 😀...Greetings from Montréal!
Sanctions got in force that is why it looks different 🤣
The whole country looks different now. Come and see!
It was very long time ago.

Great video, this video got me back to 2 years ago, my trip to Moscow. been at GUM mall a couple of times. it is like a place at red Square. Love Moscow .Merry Christmas everyone in Russia

I've been to Moscow but never thought of going inside GUM because they said everything there is crazy expensive 🙃 I'll definitely visit it next time I go there, спасибо ❤️
I'd definitely recommend! Of course most of the stores are more high end, but there's a few that are mid range. The food and atmosphere is definitely worth it though!
Thank you for the hard work!
Great work once again! I've really liked how you've created amazing content in Russia so far on a variety of topics such as cuisine, transportation and now shopping. I definitely need to try out Russian food soon- looks very delicious!
Thanks, Rahul! Yes, definitely try out Russian food if you get a chance. There's strangely not a lot of Russian restaurants in Toronto for the size of the city, but Crepes Club downtown is actually pretty good!
You’re so lucky!
Happy for you!
The GUM is an amazing place and I had the good fortune to visit Moscow in 2017. I even had lunch in the the same cafeteria and had
a sausage stew which was very nice. I was only in Mosvow for 3 days and would love to get back there again.
Your travels are amazing andI look forward to watching your continuing adventures.

Lovely mall and also very well decorated. so artistic construction.
Nice tour.

Was there in 2002. It is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Alina. After going to Almaty, I want to visit Moscow.

I have been to the mall & it was splendid. Even from the outside you feel the opulence of Russia & once inside then you realise the luxury & space that the Goom offers. Great video Alina. The ice cream is available at other places too for the same price. I had it at the Museum.
Wonderful video as usual. Thank You Alina, it's allways a real pleasure.

Quite a store -- stunning, elegant, classy.

State Universal Store. Or, otherwise known as Main Universal Store. Pretty much it is shopping mall :)
