Hello! My name is Vasilisa, I'm from Vladivostok in Russia, I was born there and lived here until the age of 23, after that I spent several years living in Asia, in places like Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Macau and Bali. After my travels, I turned to Russia to look at it from a different perspective...

Fun fact; in Serbia we call Olivier salad a Russian salad.
Urban legend is that Russian emigration after the revolution, brought recipe and popularize same in 1920’s.
And it is also considered a holiday dish, cause there is no birthday, new year, or any other formal event that you can not imagine to be without Russian salad now in Serbia lol
Greetings and all the best!
@@nevagerber2434 Sorry for late answer, but most popular salads for special accessions can vary from what time of year is.
But I will try to name some: Russian (Olivier) salad, Mimoza Salad, Tarator salad, also all salad known as garden salads, Serbian, Shopska (Шопска), Greek one and popular winter salads are sour cabbage with Aleva (grinded hot) paprika, turshiа (туршиа) that is collection of pickled vegetables. Then Ajvar and variations like pindjur and malidzano, or ljutenica, those are all winter salads from jar, based on paprika. One more is roasted paprika's with garlic in oil, known as белолучене паприке.
You can find something that is not really a salad, but we call that one a salad, and that is Urnebes salad, literally means hilarious salad, it is made from old white cheese that is mashed with some garlic, ajvar and grinded aleva paprika, it is more like some kind of cream cheese with spicy and hot taste, but good for meat and bread spread.
We also love to put on the roast and meat a grinded Ren (Armoracia rusticana) or horseradish, it is also very spicy.
And individual salads are always present like green salad, cabbage, cabbage with carrots or some other variations.
Hope I help with some information's.
Greetings from Serbia or
@@nevagerber2434We in Serbia dont eat salad when there are is no seasonal products, but we have, a condiment from sweet peppers and eggplant, pickled vegetables. Kompot is also popular here. Olivie salad was very popular when was a kid. Now not as much.
Looks tasty, that Stolovaya restaurant. Reminds me a bit of the Polish "Bar Mlechnys". Kompot and Salad Olivier is also popular there (think they call it "Francuski"). Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰
eastern european/russian food have a lot of common. Hello Denmark! Hope you enjoy the content and will come back for more 🌷💗🌹
@@lisa_with_love Sure, I will.

Your salad with mayonnaise in Serbia is named "Russian salad"! I understend Russian words i know what is rasolnik because we hawe the same 😂 i mi imamo kompot od suvog voća i isto ga zovemo kompot! All the best to you beautiful girl and also for all Russian people from the heart💌Marija

@@AquariumRusshuh any reason ?
@@asiandvarma1603
There must be a reason?
I taught English in Russia for 5 years, mainly in Saint Petersburg, and loved eating in canteens. I really miss kompot, too.
You can make kompot at home. It is an easy drink to make
I’m American but my wife is Russian so I make all these dishes for her. Olivia, Borscht, cutlets, and mashed potatoes are just a few of the dozens of dishes I have learned to make.
u must be most skillful guy among ur friends after that)
@@balalajkeaccordeone4711 Not exceptionally skillful, just willing to learn and make the effort to give my wife and mother-in-law a little bit of home while living in the US. My daughter loves all the Russian dishes as well especially Brosch, Olivier Salad, Chebureki, and Syrniki.

very nice food for a great price, its very similar to our food, I like it ! greetings from Slovakia
We have a lot of similar things
We have to make peace with Russia so I can visit ❤ I love the country and people
Just spent 3 months traveling all over Russia. You don't have to wait for America to leave Ukraine.
You can go now. Just get online visa and buy air ticket with one stop.

Similar to canteens in Croatia, except the price, we would pay 15 $ for that in Croatia with our crazy prices last 2 years:) ! These kind of canteens are popular in smaller towns and on busy roads that lead from Zagreb to the Adriatic coastline. I love the interior of this canteen, looks great! P.S. 'Ne ridaj' is exactly the same in Croatian! 'Ne ridaj suze' - don't cry the tears.
What a beautiful, historic building. Thank you for a great video.
Very nice interior and the food looks very tasty ! Greetings from Sweden.
Believe me, its not tasty at all. Russian food is like Russian architecture. it's just a facade 😂😮😅
@@BandiMasha Believe me, you dont know what you are talking about. You havent eaten Russian food even once in your life. Troll.
Delicious looking food, very clean cafeteria. The outside of the restaurant is so picturesque. Lovely ! Thanks for this fun video.... :) ( Greetings from Houston, Texas)

When i was growing up, we called Olivier salad, insalata russia. I love it to this day, but I’m the only one in the family who does.
Oh wow!, the Stolovaya restaurant is absolutely amazing looking building, just like the grand old the haute bourgeoisie:ones I've worked at in the 1990's.
Thank you for another excellent piece.
Nice vid and your English is great. Just a small but significant mistake. "Bakeries' is the plural of the place where bread and other baked goods are made. We'd probably say 'baked goods' for a section of bread, pastry and stuff, although maybe the average American would just say 'bread' or 'breads and rolls'.
In Texas we call that a Cafeteria. Most schools have a cafeteria but with possibly only a single option for each part of the meal. Growing up my family went to a cafeteria restaurant called Luby's and it had a very similar layout. Usually the Salad section is first, then the main course, side dishes like steamed vegetables, mashed potato or mac and cheese then bread and dessert then your drink is the last choice.
I live in the suburbs of Houston...The Woodlands. We used to eat at Luby's when my kids were little. They went out of business a few years ago, sadly. The food was good !
@@lilliparker5343 there's still one in Austin and I read recently they've started doing popups in different parts of Texas.
@@НаташаПопова-м6ьcome to Texas and I'll make you some beef stew. Thanks for sharing!
It is quite possible that the "homeland" of Russian canteens is from the USA.
The fact is that this format of catering was originally common in factories. In the 30s of the last century, americans built hundreds or even thousands of factories in the USSR. Only the firm of the famous industrial architect Albert Kahn from the USA designed 521 objects for the USSR in 1929-1932. The Stalingrad, Chelyabinsk and Kharkov tractor plants and aircraft factories in Kramatorsk and Tomsk were built according to american drawings and with american equipment.
So most likely, our "stolovaya" and your "cafeteria" are cousins.

I would eat here more often than I would a McDonalds. Food looks delicious!
Superb, seems delicious
A 3 course meal for under £5, now I need to visit Russia!
This reminds me of my school lunch cafeteria! Mind you, the food you have looks good! I like how there’s so much potato 🤤
Delicious! Love 💗 Russian food!🥰
Nice movie Lisa. Greetings from Italy, near Florence. It's the first time I've watched your vlog and your videos seem short, interesting, and sociable. They show us the far Russian Far East, so geographically far from Europe, but all in all with images, habits and nutrition very similar to us. To say that today is a difficult moment is obvious, but I would add that precisely for this reason we must keep channels of communication open, insist on contacts and cheer for like Lisa, she does not resign herself to the greyness and lives her youth in smile and hope.
I like to show good part of our life here despite of uncertain time 🌷 hello to Italy!
These "innocent women and children", like their men, consciously chose the path of betrayal, the path of Nazism and fierce Russophobia! Now they are paying for their corrupt apostasy from their Russian blood, from our common ancestors, from history and the Orthodox faith for the sake of Western handouts.
Until they repent for their sin of betrayal, until they atone for the blood, they have no right to hope for forgiveness!
Residents of Ukraine get exactly what they deserve!
@froguniverse2419 Ukraine started it all back in 2014 killing innocent Ukraians whose only fault was to be native russian speakers.
I also live in the Far East and will tell you a funny fact. My Korean acquaintances once went to Vladivostok and then told their friends that they had been to Europe. )))
@froguniverse2419, Are you a bot?
Love from India❤️
Enjoy your videos! I had the chance to visit Russia, specifically Vladivostok, in 2022. Stayed for a month and absolutely loved it! Recognizing familiar places in your content brings back great memories. Can't wait to go back; Vladivostok is truly amazing-cleaner and safer than LA!
When I was a student in St. Petersburg near metro Lecnaya there was a big stalovaya where I use to go in 1991.Tray was the same colour.Your vedio took me to my student days.Love from I🇮🇳 ❤

No while putssy is in power!!!
Be sure to come! Now all the bullshit going on in the world will end and you will come to us! It's cool in Russia! I advise you to visit Samara.
Yeah I agree with you Russia is beautiful country, but not the people from Russia, something wrong with Russian people I've meet with Russian people many times in game's or social media platforms, when I asked about their crime, killing innocent people, and Russian vs Ukrainian war, what you guy's think about ? They said there is nothing wrong with our government and us too, after he said that I asked one more question are you guy's supporting war ? They said yes lol I was like wtf 💀
By the way . Are any of you from Russia / Post-Soviet countries besides me?
If only they wouldn’t invade other countries, kill people, kidnap children, destroy everything…

It would’ve helped if you told us what ingredients are in each dish. I’m not familiar with Russian food this is my first time seeing it
Looks very delicious! I will definately visit this historical and beautiful canteen, once I visit Wladiwostok! 🥰
very nice place, food looks yum
That looked like a great place to eat......the food looks sooooooo good !!!! This is a time where I wish someone has invented smell TV ........so I could smell how good that was......LOL
Saying everything is “underrated” is OVERDONE.
There were two distinct foods levels in Russia. Crazy rich and desperately poor. The Stalin-induced famines, coupled with socialist waste, made most food in the CCCP inedible.
Relative to who?

Lol they fooled me with the fancy facade. I was thinking I don’t think this is a proper stolovaya. The food always looks so good and prices are unbeatable. The lady waving behind the counter was funny.
In California, in a similar location, city center, classical building, with historic clientele, and that decor, I’m guessing that meal with tax and tip would be $40-$50.

Why would anyone go to Russia for fear of getting falsely arrested.
Who are you kidding? Russia is only arresting legitimate spies.
I would have taken food.
@lisawithlove1. Sorry I don’t use telegram,I don’t have nothing for the moment, only Skype on my other machine.
Normally in north america, people that know something about informatic they don’t use messengers for nothing. It’s not like in europe people are different it’s not good to talk to someone that you don’t know and there is lot of bad and abnormal people,it’s the mentality and they make lot of abnormal "stuffs" and their way of being is neither not normal.
And they make lot of bad softwares, when they release something it’s not like in Russia or europe excepted France;they release lot of nonsense products or whatever, nothing to do with people or costumers and they don’t listen to people,it’s never really adapted to people or to the needs or desires...
All this could probably be associated to lot of poverty in the country. You know lot of things are related to money.
I use my tab for lot of things and video games.
