    I realize this is an older tutorial. But I do enjoy watching them over and over...the kitty reaching out his paw while you work...makes me smile every single time.

    Fun fact: there are plastic tooth picks that are designed to look like swords that are a bit larger than the average sword of a 25mm miniature for fantasy games. You could cut one of those down to size and use that as a weapon in the treasure pile.

    Things that are quite heavy will also use double layer cardboard. I buy in bulk at Costco and the cat litter bags come boxed in double layer cardboard. Fruit as you found. Also boxes that contain other boxes. So the boxes that all the other boxes come in. Or you can make it by sandwiching two singles together with white glue (you must totally coat the one side with glue leaving no gaps).

    He stomps around like he owns the place, very graceless cat. I think he thinks he's a dog. He and the other cat are rescued strays. They are enjoying their new home.

    Another thing you can use instead of varnish when covering the glitter is mod-podge or a watered down clear glue (such as school glue, craft glue and so on) for things you might want to have a matt look, or if you don't want to add extra shine

    Dude, this is brilliant. I was going to try something similar with just the glitter, but I love the ideas of using the bits and bobs of silver and gold and whatnot from a craft shop. Also, I have that exact same red dragon!

    My players own the miniatures, they just store them at my place... going on ten years now.
    I am glad you like it. I try to make things look great, but cost virtually nothing.

    My players are super skeptical of chests due to a mimic incident. So I always start talking about mimics (out of game) moments before they enter a room with a chest. It has been years, but the one guy still carries a 10ft pole just to poke chests with...

    You have to find it and buy it. I try to use stuff lying around the house that doesn't cost me anything. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, but it is not "convenient" unless you already have it for some other reason. There are plenty of other materials that could be used. :)

    The bane of my existence...glitter in any of its forms. I have 3 girls and have spent the last decade covered in one form of glitter or another whether it be from glittery kids clothing, crafts or play makeup. It has seeped into every thing I touch. I can't tell you how many times I went to work with pink glitter on my face that you can only see when the light hits it just right.

    They were usually AUD$3.00 on special for AUD$1.50... Bargain! The diamante things were AUD$1.00 for a bag with about 200 in them. They're the sort of thing certain people put on their phones for decoration (blingification).

    I would suggest spray Cans of clear coat instead of varnish. Can create a really light layer and would cover very evenly and quickly and then no varnish covered cat paws lol

    • @TheDMGinfo
      @TheDMGinfo  8 років тому

      +Sean McDermott the idea with the varnish is that it is glossy and reflects more light

      Acrylic floor polish (Pledge, Future, Klear, Quick Shine etc.) is pretty much water-thin, so it's great for things like this.

    • @ianwinterbottom9539
      @ianwinterbottom9539 7 років тому

      Yes, I used to use Klear a lot as a kind of substitute varnish. had it in the Army as substitute "bull" for boots! goes pale blue when rained on, so be warned!

    • @ericsmith1508
      @ericsmith1508 8 років тому

      +Candorsmayhem yes but those tend be nearly twice as long as the average PC mini meant to represent a 5-6 foot humanoid. so they would be 12 foot swords. doable! depending on the story of the particular scenario...but not repeatable as generic terrain pieces.

    Could I just make these on a silicone baking mat I already have instead of cutting out a little base, and then peel them off the mat when they cool down and harden up? There wouldn't be a base to paint and they could then be used with any theme of tile.

    A monster and his hoard are soon parted. A PC and his gold are soon fleeced. It's the way of the world. Part of the adventure is trying to protect your 5000GP you have to transport on a mule 50 miles to town through bandit country. Wait, that's no bandit... duh doh.

    can silver glitter be added to the gold so there would be silver pieces and gold pieces (coins)

    • @TheDMGinfo
      @TheDMGinfo  7 років тому

      sure, however it starts to look just like a lighter gold. It would be better to do two merged piles, one of silver and one of gold because if you mix them you don't really see the difference some of the time

      +Fred Lepley Michale's, Hobby Lobby, places like that sell them. the craft department at Wal-Mart sells bags of beads like that too. and all those places have web sites you can shop. they are basically...well...literally! just charm bracelet/necklace beads. you can take the teeny tiny ones and glue them on top of the ones that look like they'd be the right size for an interesting looking "jar" or "bottle" and make exactly that out of them! make a shelf or book case out of popsicle sticks and glue your "potion bottles" on and voila! appothocary's store shelf! or wizard's laboratory! or your group's store room at their keep!
