Fun fact: Smaug was actually guarding 200 gold in total
wow was it so? when I was child reading about Bilbo Baggins adventures I somehow cannot recall if there was any specific number provided by Tolkien
he did provide that info just recently tbf
I am lucky enough to have one of Smaug's coins from the Hobbit but unfortunately its only made from tin.
@@wadysawkostrzewski8557 it was said to be mountains of gold in Erebor before Smaug took over.
So yeah, 200 gold wouldn’t be much of a stretch xD
Now it makes so much more sense that he didnt want to part with a single coin.
"Split my ass Rowan!" Careful, dangerous thing to say when you're walking ahead of him.
Was looking for this comment cuz I thought the same.
Especially considering we have no idea how big of a sword Rowan has in his inventory.
@@Veelasiren he may not have a sword, he might have a ladder. oh wait maybe he doesnt. opps i forgot or did rowan forget?
Knowing Rowan he would literally split his ass and take the gold 😂😂😂😂😂
😆😆😆@@zerodawn09
Ben finally took the sensible response to Rowan: let him learn the hard way instead of trying to argue with a brick wall.
that assumes that he learns
Ine can assume after watching the entire campaign so far, rowan wont...lol
I mean you can get just get rid of some other useless items so you can make more space for the gold or maybe it doesn’t work like that in this game
@@badreedinebedro There was only 100 gold, the pile was only for show lol you're just as bad as Rowen
I love how Rowan seems to magically forget EVERY other time he has been wrong on stuff.. health potions, horse pocket... etc etc
Hold on. Horse pocket? I hope that's something to do with mount summoning...
@@DGneoseeker1it's a classic! Definitely look it up!
But he was right about not casting fireball when he's melee'ing the boss. That's basically being right 100% of the time.
@DGneoseeker1 yes mount summoning!!! 😅
@@NukeMarine true dat
This is way too accurate, especially when you're looting and you can clearly see there's some cool items there, but you can only 'loot' some dusty rags, a bone and 3 coins.
They need to follow up with Rowan finding a lootable potato sack with like 400 gold.
Venjamin Bandelier, bandit king wins again!

I half-expected the pile to remain there as an elaborate cosmetic 'chest'.
I actually thought rowan would turn to face it and it would have disappeared because Ben picked it all up
@@Poppy_is_my_dogThis.
@@Poppy_is_my_dogExact same thought.
@@Poppy_is_my_dognah cause Rowan would’ve thought Ben took all the gold that wasn’t there
We need the opposite version of this now, the one that happens in games like fallout where you're able to pull a gun, 36 bullets, 12 caps, 4 pieces of armor, a hat, their shirt, a note, a desk fan, and a bowl of noodles out of a chunk of dead guy's arm that fell off the building he was shooting from
Equally absurd is being able to loot all nearby dead bodies from that one tiny chunk of flesh. Comes in handy though when you kill an enemy in an area that can be annoying to reach. Just have to kill a nearby enemy that you can reach and use it to loot the guy on top of the building that only has roof access from the stairs behind another building, two blocks down. (I should really start running with a jetpack! lol)
Don't forget mirelurks that for some fucking reason have a legendary Fatman launcher when they are a CRAB
Play Kingdom Come: Deliverance and then you'll start to love having 5 apples on the table and not having to pick them up one by one with a custom picking animation, plus you have to have your hands free to pick them up or just open the door, which even Skyrim doesn't have.
The most realistic games are the most annoying and you've probably never heard of them because no one enjoys watching a game character kneel down every time they pick herbs.
@@petr_ix loved that game, it was a nice change* for once
From armor stand

I will never get sick of Ben and rowan arguing about video game nonsense. The Health Potion one is still one of my all time favorites.
Horse pocket.
@@DellikkilleDBackpacks
The one where Rowan fell off the game world
PUBG arguments as well
The health potion is one I never fully understood. Does any game imply that you consume it whole?
For me it is too non-related to be funny.
my dnd party did this joke sooo often
"you find an empty pile of gold"
thanks divinity OS 2
Flashback to that moment in Skyrim when you realize the coin piles are all individual coins you can pick up 👌
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, it's far worse in terms of realism. What you see on the merchant's table are real in-game items with stats that you have to collect manually. There's an animation for picking things up, even picking up herbs has its own picking animation. It's realistic, but so horribly annoying, you really don't want to see real things in games.
Rowan really needs to get his game sense fine-tuned. Can't believe he missed that mountain of gold! Good one Ben playing him like that!
Rowan gut good tho.. he basically is the rollie pollie!
Straight out of The Witcher 3. Huge pile and only 22 crowns in it.
BG3 is bad about this too.
Sea of thieves!
@@rettbull9100 That gold pile in the sanctuary god damn it
Right, how frustrating. Same on sea of thieves. And i love both, but... Damn 🤬
Oh yeah, I am always completely broke in that game. 😅
That was really brave of Ben to turn his back on Rowan after saying "Split my arse" to him.
It's like in the movies when someone is slowly walking away from a huge explosion. They're just too confident and cool to care. Massive boss move. 😁
Holy shit Ben willing to split the loot? That’s character development.
Split my ass Rowan definitely caught me off guard lmao
Hopefully for Ben, he won't split it horizontaly 😉
It'd be really funny if Ben ad libbed that and Rowan was as surprised as we were😆

@@VivaLaDirtLeague - "Hey Rowan, is that a massive pay cut in your pants, or are you just pleased to see me?" 😂
I never get bored watching Rowan trying to apply real life common sense in video games. Ben's victories are just outrageous!
And now they regret letting the "Split my ass" line get into the final skit. Rowan and Ben relationship was never the same
And neither was Ben's ass.
that explains alot actually, Rowan having never played any games before . it all makes sense now
I'm convinced that Rowan is actually an NPC pretending to be a player, or a player who doesn't realise he's an NPC 😂
waiting for the reveal that Rowan turned off all of his HUD displays for immersion sake in the very beginning and therefore never had tutorial messages or action prompts etc
Have to say out of all you guys Ben is massively the MOST TALENTED, like seriously he changes his whole demeanor for each character, his voice is different, his actions are different, his WHOLE personality is unique in all his characters, WHAT A GEM!
His look at the end of the female armor skit is just iconic 🤣🤣🤣
I would say Hamish is just as great as Ben. He is able to express so damn many completely opposite emotions and roles insanely well.
Don't forget Byron
@@Ajar37Brian?
Byron and Ben are the absolute best. Especially in DnD logic videos.
I love this goddamn tavern. Well worth it!
It costed 100 gold to build
"It's not about gold, but about glory." - The pirate lord (HELL NO! WHERE IS MY GOLD!!! -Most pirates in SoT)
Bro I literally died. I wish that when Rowan interacted , it raised a notification +38000gp
I bet Ben hid the rest in his "horse pocket"
I have to go with Ben on this one. Not his fault that Rowan doesn’t listen
They really need to follow this up with Rowan searching the room and finding 600 gold in the Tin cup on the mantle.
or bother to look at the loot in the actual ui 😂
@@Jamieboi1989"hey where did this ladder come from?" would be a great line to add.
Rowan NEVER listens, especially when Ben is right!😂😂
@@disturbedpyro4511 OUTRAGEOUS! 🤣
This reminds me of the gold piles in the Spanish forts in Sea of Thieves, where you can only grab 2 or 3 piles and the rest is just visuals
Same when you find an armory and see tones of weapons and armor all around and all you can loot is 1 broken straight sword
the atmosphere on this set is amazing! love what you guys have done with the tavern
The painful truth about video games you working hard to beat a dungeon only to find out the loot worth less the what you spend
But you still manage to end up with loads of crap you can't carry 😂
The only thing there is spare change.
Still worth it for the xp and the progression
dungeons are for xp, and maybe upgrades. you want gold? go grind some repeatables
it's usually painful truth about life as well
This is such a heartwarming friendship. Maybe not for Ben, but for us who get to watch...it just warms my heart.
Larian does this all the time. I've been conditioned to see a pile of gold as an "interactable object" and not, well, a pile of gold. Thanks, Larian, you bastards.
They're for sure not the only ones but yeah, I genuinely have a love-hate relationship with Larian's productions because of the damn loot. It nearly ruins the vibe of all their games for me. Like potion bottles the size of my head? No thanks.
Pile of gold (empty)
Yeah screw baldurs gate... the story sucked and people just keep telling me if I mod it then it is fine.
This is how they actually talk to each other when they’re playing PUBG. It’s a friendship thing.
Bickering like an old married couple 😄

One thing I love about the Overlord games is that the size of your pile of gold varies w/ the amount of gold in it.
is that a good game?
@@forevermyanmar8076It's kinda like Pikmin, but in a high fantasy setting.
Same in Skyrim, sure piles are never bigger than maybe 12 coins but they are all there.
@@LtCunninghamoh, that Overlord. I'm on Anime brain, and couldn't place it. Plus, I only owned Nintendo back then, so I played that game like one time for a couple hours at someone else's house.
Yeah, they're fun, but pretty dated. There's bound to be better games by now made by a team of two people in the same genre.
If I recall correctly, it was somewhere between Pikmen and an RTS or Dungeon/City builder, where you rescued or summoned imps, then sent them to mine gold or channel mana for you.
Fable 3 did that too. There was a gold room to store your loot and it would grow till it reached the ceiling.
a MASSIVE hoard of gold = 5 gold pieces. "It checks out"
These never get old. No matter how many times Ben shows Rowan something he NEVER trusts him. Horse Pocket is still one of my favorites.
This happens all the time in every open world game. I really wonder where all the NPC's weapons and other items disappear to, seconds after I defeated them.
That's normal, just like it's normal for a rat to drop a full suit of armour
Haha, that's true.@@overbored1337
"Split my ass..." This had me spray the morning coffee all over the screen.. thanks for that.
It’s like looting a dead dragon only for them to have 1-3 “dragon scale” items. We’ve all had that moment where we’re like “ummm, no, I see plenty more scales on that thing, maybe look again so I don’t have to keep grinding”, and I’m sure plenty of us have also had moments where we’re killing small things like deer and get 2 hearts, 6 legs, and 2 heads as trophies and we’re left wondering what the hell kind of deer we killed.
Ben: this is my annotation and Rowan's crowding my style! *camera pans to the right cutting out Rowan*
I'm in the same boat with Rowan actually. We need to blame the developer for this logic.
Yes! Like games are visual media! We're supposed to take things at sort of face value, and it's not like I A: will see the reward before I get there - it's the layout that tells me where to go, and B: I will know what I'm getting in a second anyway! Give me a pouch if it's a small thing, make it a covered weapon rack if it's a weapon. Don't make it literal piles of gold if it's not piles of gold!
@@M.Datura It's especially annoying when a game suddenly puts visual cues in the background as part of a puzzle solution. Like... you've just spent hours teaching my brain to IGNORE all those details.
This may just be my single greatest video game pet peeve ever.
How are these 2 even still friends, still playing together and most shockingly, actually making progress with anything together.
Literally had this situation in "divinity 2"
Came to a place with like 8 mountains of that amount of gold
And there was a sword...
And a zero gold...
As a person who played the dragon age games, I deal with this a lot
The place with all the Soul Jars in Act 1, I remember it well.
Literally mountains of gold, and you can't even take enough to buy a new piece of Armour
Or in divinity 1 where there is a cave full of gold of troll king but you only get 50 gold each heap
@@Trojianmaru there also was that "clown" guy, trickster was it his name?
@@Andrei-if1dr funny thing is, in the first two dragon age games, 50 gold is practically a fortune.
That one time in Resident evil 4 that the merchant had sh1t ton of ammo in front of his sale stand yet he won't let me buy some.
They are all blanks
First time I saw Ben look so defeated even though he won the argument
Reminds me of all those games where they just have gold coins scattered around chests, on floors and tables, or the worst ones where the floor is literally made out of gold coins. Yet you can't pick them up.
"Split my ass rowen" had me crying
I love you guys! You should maybe make your own game
One day 😍
Gotta love it, when you are coming by benches with the sickest gear ever, but nothing of it can be interacted with, you are only allowed to take a flashlight or a knife whatever it is that they placed there within loads of stuff, that would be infinately more helpful. Hammers, crowbars, nail guns, it all certainly has no purpose when being in a situation, where crafting is essential for survival.
@marcfuchs6938 Worse is the games where you have to craft all those things, and they're crap items.
Meanwhile in minecraft you can construct a crafting table that has various metal tools on it, using only wooden planks.
Something I loved about Titan Quest was how loot was literally the things you saw. Even when it came to weapons and armor that monsters used, the very same weapon or armor dropped when dead
In GW1 you can encounter a huge pile of treasure, you pick around 2000 gold from it and then interacting tells you "a powerful magic prevent you from touching the gold". Well at least they kept it logical (it was a djinn treasure).
And then GW2 you get dumped into the Mystic Forge and are actual mountains of treasure there, some of which is raining on your head and you can't touch any ofnit
And Rowan proceeded to split Ben's ass
gotta sign up for patreon for that video.
@@DellikkilleD 🤣

Joke's on him, it was already split!
"Aight bet just Ben over"
If I had a gold piece for every time Ben has been exasperated by Rowan it would look bigger than that pile.
As soon as I saw Rowan and Ben at the thumbnail I thought "What are they gonna bicker about now?" 😂
"Split my ass, Rowan" is one of the best lines ever on this channel
Can't believe that I was actually hoping that Rowan somehow managed to punch that mountain of fake gold and split them into a LOOTABLE mountain of gold.
In a video game that allowed purchasing of houses, one in particular was pretty close to this. Winter-frozen north setting, sturdy constructions from full-on tree trunks...A cave nearby (part of the property you bought) with a literal dragon sleeping on a pile of gold & jewels. The treasure pile, considered in relative size-scale, had to be at least 3x the size of the pile in this video. Dragon is presumed to be some kind of pet but it never wakes up & the whole pile of loot was only cosmetic, in that you couldn't even grab a single coin out of it.
...Even though you've already paid for the property as a whole, the treasure was still untouchable...
Love how this time, Ben didn’t flat out disagree with Rowan’s point of view, he just held out so Rowan could discover the bitter truth himself 😂
"You actual child" How long have you wanted to say that Ben? Asking for a friend

@@ndazzaSo true, so sad.
This is genuinely like the goblin camp treasure room in Baldurs gate 3
This skit is 100% based on that exact treasure room 😂
My favorite is at the end of the big Sea of Thieves quest, you end up in a room absolutely covered with piles of gold, probably hundreds of millions of coins. Then after you fight the boss, your guide shows up and is like “Wow, great job! You should leave the treasure, it’s corrupted too many pirates already.” and then you can’t actually loot any of it.
I love it when you defeat an enemy and can clearly see his gear still intact on and around his body, but you can't pick any of it up because.....reasons.
Will poor Rowan ever learn to trust what Ben says ? probably not !
you mean like with the hellfire?
Imagine if Rowan walk a few step further and there's more than 100 gold stacks behind 😂
I think I actually remember this happening in a game. I believe it was Neverwinter Nights 2 and in a dragon's lair. Lots of individual gold and treasure piles you had to loot one by one.
The timing on this skit is perfect. Happened to me and my friend a few days ago 😂
Rowan learned lesson he'll remember for life and he only had to pay 50 gold to learn it! It's a _steal_ if you ask me
When will Rowan start listening to Ben he is always right... (Except that one Time) 😂
Ben: I have one question for you have you ever played a game before or was this your first time
Rowan: f*ck you ben
The giant gold piles with only a little in it have always been so silly to me, great to see a skit about it
The same thing happens when collecting plants. You can see like 20 flowers on the bush and you pick it and get like 1 - 3 petals.
The tricks they play with amounts are so devious
Rowan Was Mugged !
Rowan mugged himself lol
It is amazing how these two are still gaming together.
I liked the fireball one because the roles were reverted and its great sometimes for ben to actually be wrong lol
When it comes to loot piles it would be better if the games actually show what they have, we have the technology to do that easily now, you don't even need that much processing power to rending in a gold pile in games now adays, and what i mean is you don't have to animate every piece of gold we have ways to simulate it easily.
I've come to understand that a lot of game developers actually don't know that much about how to streamline things so that rendering loot for example remains visible and also not taking up literally all your RAM constantly. But I do agree that this is a fixable issue, even if they want to have like set loot cosmetics to keep things familiar.
Problem is can player see 3 pieces of gold coins? Piles of gold are there so players can see them easily. Even real sized 100 gold coins in the corner of the room may be hard to be seen.
Wouldn't that bog down the game with all the unnecessary added assets?
@@Man-vs-Metal no it won't because the assets would would be used to make a bigger bound together object which would act as one entity, you would only need one coin asset per coin type and then use said assets to make the shapes you want for fix structures
@@Serlock4869 you would be surprised what gamers notice
Gold piles in Sea of Thieves…
Some things Ben has said that pop up in my mind every now and again, "Outrageous", "Horse pocket", and now a new competitor "Split my ass". Funny as hell guys!
Also, anyone remember playing Fabled and you could literally see the pile of gold in the gold vault grow as you add to it?? it was so satisfying to me seeing a visual representation of my efforts.
Rowan really never learns. You can tell this is the same guy who doesn't know who someone is if they're wearing a different shirt.
The one time Ben is actually smart they still, somehow how still are end up in a argument .😂
What do you mean? Ben is always the smart one.
Ah, my favorite pairing, Ben, the long-suffering gamer, versus Rowan, the man who has never played a video game before.
Though you've never quote topped the glory of the horse pocket, I will always be here for this.
This is the same incident when Adam once try to buy Bodger's weapons but all he got was daggers when the background got spears & swords.
That last barb had me HOWLING! It’s such a Ben thing to say to Rowan lol
These are my favorite vids on the channel. The dynamic between these 2 is 😂😂😂😂
Ben should have said, "Rowan, You give me 150 gold and you can have everything in the pile".
That moment when a random horse has more gold in it than a literal pile of treasure
It's even worse when the pile does not actually vanish after you've looted it but it just says "empty". So you're actually leaving a massive pile of gold behind when you leave the area....
Rowan not believing Ben about how games work is up there in my favorites running gags
That tavern is really proving to be very versatile. Love it.
The fact it was finally said on screen is a joy I didn't know I needed. "Have you...actually played a video game before?"
Well, at least it had gold in the pile - some games will have you find a +1 Axe aimed for a class you don't play, some chicken, etc. Or even make it purely decoration for a battle (Where I assume the gold is an illusion cast by the boss of the area that is really committed to the bit?)
I love when they have a video together. They work off each other so well.
next time he's going onto a plaza full of people thinking he can talk with all of them
hysterical and true. Still, my favorite Rowan skits are the charisma skit and when he chooses a vampire character
