In today's video I head over to Copart because ive bought an Audi RS3 for only £2500!! so what could possibly be wrong with it? let's find out. There's a good reason its so cheap though...

The car has only done 35,000 miles too so we have a nice low mileage engine and maybe box if it’s okay 🙌🏼
Surely the turbo ate some of that cracked elbow, and who knows where the valve cover bits ended up!
put the engine in a old escort mk2
Why don’t you look at a rs3 caddy van maybe?
Deano, I hope you took everything! Especially the Pan roof, these aren't covered through glass insurance and cost 4 figures to replace. Grab the headliner aswell if someone buys it for a conversion. All the little things like vents etc. Always someone wanting the little less important bits.
Doors you can repair and sell on.
The block alone will get you your money back.
I'd be interested in the rims if they're any good.
You'll get easy 8k back if that engines not got physical damage.
Do you only get to visit the car once to remove the bits.
@@michaelfrost8153 Great idea 👍
Decent haul. I'd have pulled the doors off and stripped them at home, it's just faster than taking the door cards off by themselves. There's always someone with a broken window reg/motor or door lock on a VAG car. Always worth grabbing anything that's metal and easy to get off, particularly if it's aluminium (bonnet?) bit of scrap to put some fuel in the van is always a winner.

The interior dash vents go for like £150 alone, screen MMI and controls could fetch 200ish
Unfortunately you missed a lot of items as listed by others. You should have taken everything you could and gotten rid of the stuff as and when you decided it wouldn’t help you. For instance, to take all 4 doors off would have been quicker, easier than stripping the bits you felt you wanted thus leaving time to strip more from the car. Good video though, it highlights what people can get
You could've taken the glass from the doors. It was all still intact. And the tiny windows from the rear. They are the most valuable.

Is it the same as the rs6? The rs6 had different glass compared to the standard a6
Yes exactly, they are. It was good call with the lights though for the modules Take them apart and sell the black plastic housing as someone will use it for a repair. Any bit of trim like the centre console and flip up rest will probably be about £500 to £1000 from Audi as a new replacement so there will be someone out there looking for parts like this....especially if they have kids and they have wrecked stuff in the car....
@@craigelmer8566 Yes. RS6 glass is different from A6. It's also more expensive.
Ha! I've heard a number of stories from people who locked the keys inside the car and decided to break the smallest window. Everyone said that when they found the price, they realized they should have broken the windshield instead.
I would of taken the ignition lock and door lock as well as the keys cos lock sets go for a fair bit. Doors may of been damaged but the hardware is always worth money. Still loads of bits on that which is worth money but it depends on how far you wanted to go with it. Loved the video nonetheless 👌🏾

Definitely a good buy , I would have taken door locks ignition barrel ecus / bcm could have sold it with the keys but you done well mate in limited time 😎 can’t wait to see where engine and box are going 💪🏻
Rocking find if the engine is good, that's worth triple what you paid for of course.
Even if eng+gearb are bad you'd still get your money back with what you took off I think, plus engine parts like the crankshaft, valve cover, etc. Are worth a lot.
Great find!
As others have mentioned, there is likely quite a few bits left behind that are worth a few ££s but ultimately it’s also a case of having the time to list on line to sell, also store it in the mean time and some bits could sit around for some time. The engine alone has surely brought you straight into profit alone. Nice video again.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and I watch every single one of them as soon as they are posted :)
When it comes to what more to take from the car it's of course a question of invested time and potential profit that is the deciding factor but I would've spent some more time getting the black A, B and C pillar trim as well together with the black roof liner and I would've gotten more parts from the doors like the window regulators and some linkage for the handles and locks. In short, I would've take the entire doors off and lugged them home with me :) Probably would've taken the center console as well and the small rear windows, but again, I realize you have a business to run and that the time needed to strip it down further might not be worth it.
Again, excellent content.
LUV your channel, very informative and entertaining, keep up the good work
Great video! Very interesting and a bit different than being stuck in the workshop.
My dad who’s not with us anymore used to say “there’s money in shite, if you can get enough of it” in this case he’s definitely right. £3,000 for all them parts? When you get them back to the workshop do a quick internet search and see how much it would cost you to buy all that “stuff” that other folk would have left.
Great job….. at least Dick Terpin wore a mask 😉
Another great video. The black window surround strips will be worth a bit and the MMI system.
Great content as always. I think a golf build would be perfect. Looking forward to seeing whatever you decide to do 👍
I would have taken the windows and regulators, also if you had a battery booster pack you could of applied power to help get the pan roof out. Another great video none the less.
The B&O amplifier you forgot to take out. It’s underneath the passenger seat. That’s worth a lot on its own.
Definitely quids in on this, nicely done sir, great vid!
There was more to take.
Fuel pump ecu, door handles (when keyless), mmi control unit, armrest, black headliner + upper pillar covers, etc.
The B&O amp and sound processor to go with the speakers, usually lives with the other control units in the boot side panels.
I think the amp is under the front passenger seat. And if it's a navigation plus, it would be worth another 1000 as an upgrade. Think there is still a good 2500 left in parts on the car 😆
Hats off to make a vid aswell, jeez you did well..all that setting up pause, rec, time lapse etc all takes time, and your there too strip a car 😮 lol. Nice one great vid❤
You'll def get your money bk or more that is for sure , with the price some rs parts are going for online i don't see a problem.... great video as always dean 👍🏼
Great find Dean, I would love this engine in my golf mk7.5 1.5 tsi.. It would be a hell of a up grade for it. 😉
If U wanna get good money for the black headliner U better take the 4 handles, sunvisors, interior lights and a, b and c style panels. The airvents from the dash are also worth a lot of money. Centerconsole with mmi brings U good money. Comfort module is also an expensive item. The loom from the B&O soundsystem makes the entire B&O set worth more. It's placed nearside the oem looms.....not woven in.
Great video, think you have done your best in time limit. 👍👍👍👍
I’d have had the door glass that wasn’t broken, window regs/motors. Definitely the indicator/wiper stalk unit as people are always snapping the ribbon cable in them. Should still get a good return on your 3 grand with what you have. Even if a bit bent the wheels could still be repaired and refurbed and go for decent money.
Loved this video Dean👍👍
Great video Dean 👍 You may break even, but not sure 🤔 Put the engine in a Cupar or something different to you normally do 👍👍
Love these type of videos please do more
How much you can make depends on how much time you want to put in to removing and listing everything I guess. I’m pretty sure you don’t have too much time to spend, so take the fast moving high value items only & cut your losses on the rest. That said keeping things like connectors is a great idea as you will always need them for future VAG basket cases!
Exactly that mate. Would need a whole day to
Catalog everything 😬
Loved the video Dean, and I think you’ve easily made your money back on the parts you stripped.
Like with any VAG products, everything seems to have a big price now, so
It’s a safe buy in my opinion.
As for the engine, put it in a Golf mk 7, a few have been done, but not that many👍👍
Mk5 be better
Great Video, something different for us to get our heads around, Obviously you’ve got some knowledgeable subscribers…
Best wishes!
thankyou Dean great content,,,without a doubt youll double your out goings,,but whatever you get youll not lose on it,👍👍
have a good weekend,,just out of interest,is the Mrs running around in the vw caravelle yet Dean???
I used to work in a breakers yard, one of the upper end ones that cleaned up parts and sold off the shelf. I wouldn't trust that engine and gearbox as far as I could throw it looking at the whack it's had. Cracked castings, often internal were an issue as well as mounting points and flanges on the castings for things like engine mounts, gearbox bellhousing damaged, things like bent crankshafts and gearbox mainshafts.
I agree with others, I would have taken all the doors and the ignition barrel then you would have had a full set of locks, door windows and window actuators/motors. Granted you would then have to store or get rid of the damaged door skins. But then if someone needed a door the damage being minor could have possibly been repaired at the same time as a respray. Plus it would have saved you a lot of time to focus on the roof.
so much more you could & should of taken !! Left a tidy some right there ! rear o/s glass (factory tinted) to match the other side door glass u took & tailgate ! centre console & dash trim (in black) upgrade from the silver naff looking one on the S3 !! Pan roof does come out as a full unit & dosnt need the screen out to remove (a fortune) ....... did u take all the door cards with the switch's on for the foldy mirrors ?? If so ill have the foldy mirrors (with the switch) (just let me know how much u want ?) cheer Dean :)
Nice video again. This stuff is worth about 5k I think with the engine. Hopefully the engine is an easy fix and nice to fit in a sleeper. I am sure we will see it some day. Have a great weekend.
Not a bad haul Dean. Think, as you had the grinder in your tool box, I might have cut out the locks and ignition barrel to go with the keys. Also might have been tempted to pull the glass.
Chees, Bob
Get yourself a straight MK3 golf and put the engine in that with all the little bits and bobs for interior upgrades 👍🏼
Dont think anyone has mentioned brake master cylinder, its larger than R32 which is larger than MK5 GTI. Without it pedal feels pants when upgrading to bigger RS brakes. Great video, top effort rescuing what you did. Checklist next time would prevent the amp miss ? Definitely a Caddy RS3 , go show Monky London a few tricks
Most bits excluding the front end look like decent Nick definitely a good buy
I love this channel so much because of projects like this. Shine on, you crazy diamond! 💎
Boot lid, light clusters, doors, seats, gearbox, engine, dash and infotainment if working.
Looks like you got a pretty substantial haul of goodies there Dean. If you could cover the cost of the car with everything bar the engine then you got yourself an RS3 engine for free. Hopefully it's a good 'un.
Dean, I'd have taken a grinder to the roof and rear quarter panels and cut them out along with the windscreen if not broke, cut the A pillars straight off! Passenger door aswell but I am quite tight!😂
Hi if the motor is OK you should try putting it into a VW Caddy or Touran it should fit. But great vidio keep it up lov the show.
I reckon you left over a grand in that! Amp for the stereo - MMI and and controls, doors (strip at home) bonnet -Aluminium - wheels if bent can be weighed in for scrap.
Lights, mirrors, door handles, wiper motors, headliner, door panels, various electronics and modules, window mechanisms with the electric motors, small windows in the back and on doors as well
You’ll definitely make your money back plus more with all the parts from this car, no doubt. Best deal ever
Good video. Would love the wing mirrors , but wouldn't know where to start on fitting to my 8p .....???
Oh and the gear knob ....
The wind deflectors on the pan roof a worth a few quid mate. Was looking for one for mine & they all wanted over £100’for it
All the door handels / locks and the complete ignition switch lock cylinder. full set with keys always worth money.
I would remove the ecu for the engine and ignition barrel and auto gear stick, cut out the roof on each corner and take the sunroof and sunroof module button etc
Defo swap it with the Octavia VRS engine
Hi from durham dean 👋 👍 i woul of took everything apart from plastic leave a bare shell and all harnesses crashed or bent metal take and ad to your weigh in pile mate left loadsa money on that lol but you defo doubled money and got your bits for free engine box and rear subframe assembly 👌thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍👋
It's interesting to see you have to go through this process for a B Category car. We call them Statutory Write Off here in Australia and can take them home once bought (but can't put back on road)
get all sorts of dodgy dealings if people take them home rebuild them with another crashed car change plates etc
Thanks for sharing with us in the UK, this would be taken advantage off in the UK unfortunately..
I am suprised CoPart pulled half of the parts. This would make my day a lot easier.
@@joeblack007 I bet they drain fluids and remove engines by just cutting stuff to make sure they don’t have liquid leaks and contamination and bet you only get 1 shot at taking parts so makes the process quicker
@joeblack007 they don't allow anyone bit themselves to remove an engine and its extra cost (£40/60 something like.that)
Things I spotted you may have missed and are worth something: the B&O amp / sub ... ECU? ... loom ... mirror module ... the MMI and screen ... Auto dimming rearview mirror ... Air vents ... Don't worry the panoramic is a cut and grind out job and nobody retrofits those. The brake calipers are worth 2k alone to the right buyer. Nice.
I couldn’t see if you took the pop up nav or not but there’s not a lot else and you were pressed for time so I think you did well 👍🏼
The B&O amp? Easily 4k of stuff there! Great video and something a it different.
Not sure about in the UK but here in Canada I would have taken the doors complete because the windows and door handle mechs are worth money and it would have saved time.
Not sure if you should have taken the window motor/regulator and offer it as a kit for folding mirror upgrade. I know on the golf you need the mirrors, switch and regulator and probably some coding as well. Nice video 😎
Nope for an Audi power fold upgrade you just need the mirrors and switch, you only need to change the door module if you have an old revision
Good to know that! Atleast when I retrofitted power fold on my old Passat B6 you needed everything@@PaulX

Defo put it in a caddy to keep, you can also use the rear subframe, steering wheel and seats then like TR Hamza have done. 👌🏽👌🏽
Full interior inc dash. All doors and boot. Rear bumper. Wiring loom. Clips and those random bits. Basically as youve paid for it, as much as you can fit in the van.
Dam that car looks like it was going some on impact, never seen a chassis leg that bent, your definitely make ya money back dean 👍😉💪
yeah, the glass mate. I believe its a thicker (non standard) glass on the RS, so would have value to someone repairing a slavage job. I agree with below, when I've done a simialr thing I take everything I can andthen work out what wont sell and get rid then. My rule is that everything has potential value, its only a high price that hinders a sale....
Great video, should've grabbed the MMI system, they fetch good money and easy to remove
dean you love giving your self hard work fella but good onya . that lump in a golf nice anyway great video matey be lucky
You missed the front door sill rs3 covers and the gloss black exterior window trim surrounds.
Good little buy though for sure
Great video but Should have taken all the electrical stuff in the doors switches and motors and taken another door with the light damage they’re still worth money even with light damage even the glass but obviously ball ache trying to get it out, all the centre console and I would of tried to get the dash apart for the screen and the looms even the vents and trim pieces are worth money easily left over a grands worth of parts on that car but a good amount taken I reckon over 10k with engine and box
Put the engine in a caddy Dean !! You could make good use of a caddy and with an rs3 running gear and other stuff it would also make a good handy fast daily, and more importantly than that it would be amazing content on your channel 👍
Should have taken all the interior panels along with the roofliner as folk who don’t have black roofliners like putting it in if they have white…. Could be about at least £300 you’ve just flung away with the centre console included? Also all the looms would have been handy
For the pan roof you need to undo 2 torx screws on the back of it from outside, then there are 2 torxs screws on each side from the inside. It's a pain. I had to replace the sun shield on mine but the breaker yard sold it with the whole panel. Took me 4 hours to figure out the whole thing.
That's just the glass. The mechanism itself is bonded to the roof. It needs cutting out. Not worth the effort. People don't retrofit and rarely need replacement glass.
Seat belts and curtain airbags are always worth taking if they are good
ECU and ABS pump would be handy paired together
Dean, I would have taken the Bang & Olufsen amp that was under the front passenger seat, along with the entire MMI system, air vents, blower motor, door glass & door rubbers, any reasonably accessible nuts/bolts, wiring loom & electrical connectors.
yeah forgot about the amp, annoyed about that haha
I would have taken all the doors complete, dash, air vents go for £100+ probably would have cut the rear waiters off and cut the roof off
Great video as usual. Just wondering what Makita impact gun you’re using in this video ?
For the mirrors you need to take door modules to complete the swap set
Leave the seats in the sun for a while and they should come good. I would have taken the doors intact so you had everything, take all the interior including dashboard and sell it as a complete package for anyone wanting to upgrade a standard A3 and I would have cut the roof off to take the panoramic roof. I wouldn’t have left much there, possibly would have taken rear cuts also in case anyone wants a rear cut for a damaged car. Good buy, you should at least double your money
I'd take all the rubber seals from the doors and tailgate openings, although I'm not sure how much demand there is for them, but someone somewhere got to need them.
The engine and gearbox would be great in a A1 or Polo, that is if you can get it to fit! Should be able to recover the full purchase price quite easily, but I would have taken the complete doors (strip them back at the yard) , rear crash bar and windscreen as well
I would have taken dash binnacle and ECU. Convenience unit and All the doors. Doors sell really easily. Worth selling all of it.
Please put it in the s1 bro, would be unbelievable and a hell of a lot of content
Very interesting video dean! It would be awesome to put the RS3 lump in a caddy van. If you could make the 4x4 system work it would be insane 😁
TR Hamza already did a (similar) series on this.
Well worth a look👍
Chuck the engine in a Kodiaq !!! Please! There was a guy put one in a Yeti and did track days in it! Though am sure that took a lot of modifying. , Yeti RS in search and you’ll probably find it if you don’t already know of it!
Great video, you should make good money from the parts and the doors you left would be worth something for scrap.
was gonna say, the aircon vents and the airconditioning control panel. the latter especially - the screen usually burns out
I would've taken the 8V heater vents as they're a nice retrofit in the 8P's. Sell for about £80 for a set
Pan roof glass is probably worth something as some insurance companies don’t cover them under glass for repair
Oddy enought, the gloss black gutter strips are ultra expensive & sell very easily. Other than that, great job & great video.
You'll definitely get your money back on the parts. Then go and buy a knackered Scirocco and transplant the running gear. I don't think anyone has a five pot Scirocco yet! Good luck anyway. 👍👍
Defo put it in a golf r ,there's a place in the states that does them and they look a great conversion
I would have taken the doors regardless, the glass and mechanisms can be stripped, you left loads of profit in there Dean.
They looked undamaged?
If you fancy a challenge, how about fitting the engine into a skoda octavia vrs. That was my plan for my octavia.
Stick the engine & box in a VW Caddy Dean, has been done but what a thing!
I would prefer to use the engine to replace a knackered one as otherwise you get more involved with the DVLA and the eventual car will be harder to insure as a hybrid but you know more about such possible pitfalls than me.
i would have taken lock barrels and modules so could be sold as a set .If enough room to take then the doors complete as internals usefull and you might bid on a stolen recovered needing glass.
Yep I would have taken doors, bonnet and rear hatch..all windows, basically it would have been a shell, because even the small parts are worth money, as Audi won't sell the little things unless they are attached to a big part that they charge ridiculous amounts for
Dean if it's metal you can sell it for scrap. I'd have taken all the doors, the quarter panels. Cut up the whole car and chassis frame if you can and leave the unwanted plastic behind.
Woukd love to see a engine swap on an octavia RS or a superb 4x4
