Great video. I played my first game with my three sons, teaching the game and learning it myself as I went. I jumped right in to the advanced rules too. I half expected it to be a shambles and for them to lose interest. I made a few mistakes with the rules and picked one of my own leaders as my traitor, which was hilarious. Despite all that the game was a massive hit and we had a ball with it. The dynamics of player interactions are fantastic and my boys, who are more video gamers than board gamers, had a lot of fun.
Thank you so much! It is a very good game. I also enjoy the dynamics between players, the alliances, how they can be broken; what each faction does. I am not sure I have a favourite, they are all fun to play. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the video! I love the presentation. One quick clarification, though. Allied players cannot share use of Ornithopters. Ornithopter use (moving 3 spaces instead of 1) is tied to the faction that occupies Arrakeen or Carthag.
Thank you so much!! well spotted, you are absolutely right. I have to play it again without that rule. I have no idea how it happened :) - I will make a note on the video to mention the mistake. Thanks again.
Wow Lavinia. Thank you so much. This was such a well produced rules set for Dune. I’m sorry that I’ve never come across your channel before. Do I detect a hint of Scottish in your voice? Thanks again!
so theres two spice symbols on arrakeen and carthag and one on tuek's sietch, what does that mean? my assumption was that if you occupy arrakeen/carthag you collect two spice per round from that area while you collect one per round if you're in tuek's
Yes, you are correct. As I understand from the rules, it's for the Advanced game. Intro to advanced game: "The Basic Game is changed by increasing the number of Spice Blows, adding a spice advantage for holding a city or Tuek’s Sietch, (the smuggler stronghold), an enhanced Karama Card, and an advanced battle system." I hope this helps.
Great tutorial! I watched a couple of others and the missed out on the rules where the spice goes to the emperor or spice guild only if they bid or ship. Which seems to be a super important rule!
Awesome rules explanation. My only critique would be that you covered faction abilities before explaining the base rules that they modify. However thanks a lot for creating such a comprehensive and well paced guide on how to play.
Thank you so much. Yes, it's never easy to decide on the flow, but I ultimately decided to start with the factions, because that's in general the first thing one would discuss when starting the game. Enjoy the game, it's a lot of fun :)
You're welcome. Initially the challenge is learning what each faction does, and how to play them. But once you know, it's fairly straightforward. Definitely give it a go, and if you are a 5-6 players even better.
Hi, love your video! Just wondering if you can make any videos about catan explorer and pirate expansion? I am struggling to fully understand the rules, thank you so much!
Awesome video and great editing. I do have one clarification though. Spice collection happens for all factions in the same sector. The forces do not need to be in the same territory as the spice, or each other.
Thank you so much! The forces need to be in the same territory but can be in different sectors as some territories go across sectors. I hope this helps :)
@@GamesMadeEasy I stand corrected. It says on p. 11. “Any player with forces in a sector of a territory in which there is spice May now collect that spice. So I’m rereading that yo say that you need to be in the same territory and sector to gather the spice. It can’t just be one or the other. Again, I was remembering that wrong and your video was really helpful and well done.
Thanks for the video. Really helped my players understand what they were getting into before I mercilessly tossed them into the harsh, unforgiving world of Dune
I'm wondering what happens when two factions are on a big territory that spans across multiple sectors and they are divided by the storm but there's spice to be collected. They cannot fight eachother so they both stay on the territory until the end of the round but when theres a phase to collect spice who is collecting it? (in case that spice is placed in a different sector than the storm)
Hi Filip, I've been looking at the rules again and what I said before is wrong. In this case if both are in the same territory but separated by the storm, they still both collect the spice. You can be in any sector of a territory with spice, to collect it. I am sorry for incorrect information.
Hi Jota, this is from te rules: “Any player with tokens in a sector of a territory in which there is spice may now collect that spice." It should ready any sector of a territory. Hope this helps
@@GamesMadeEasy A SECTOR of a territory, not just "a terriotry". A sector of a territory is the region os a territory delimited by a sector. In other words, it's the intersection of both sector AND territory. That reinterpretation of the rule as saying "any sector" has no base. It's not what the rules say and the FAQ doesn't say that either. Check the FAQ: "You must be in the sector where the spice is in order to collect it". www.gf9games.com/dune/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Dune-FAQ-Nov-2020.pdf Also the rulebook states that sectors regulate spice collection (p. 9): "sector’s only function is to regulate the movement and coverageof the storm and spice collection". How do they regulate spice collection? Because you have to be in the same sector (an territory) than the spice.
Hello, excellent board game. I just bought them and played 4p game with my friends. Took forever to finish but we all liked it and this video really helped me to understand the rules and the flow. I just have few questions that I hope someone could help to clarify: 1. Can you discard treachery cards at any point of the game? Some are useless and you want to bid for new ones. 2. Is it really just one shipment into the planet and then one movement to another sector? Makes it terribly difficult to travel once you have all your troops down. 3. What happens to the sand worm once it shows up? Does it disappear in the next round? 4. Are you allowed to freely give away spice to people, not limited to you alliance? If so, kinda makes emperor’s advantage useless. If not tho, you could pretend to sell info for spice.
Hello James, I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it's a great game. I love it at 5 or 6 players. Regarding your questions, I will answer them in order: 1) You may not discard treachery cards. You will need to use those useless cards in battle for example to get rid of them. 2) Yes, you ship and you move in one action. It's a challenge when you have troops spread out on the map. 3) Once the Sand worm card is resolved you place it in the discard pile. The rules are slightly different in the advanced game but you will still play it and place in the discard pile. 4) You cannot freely give spice to other players. You may make a deal or bribe with spice, as long as it doesn't break the rules or other player's faction powers. I hope this helps! Enjoy the game. Check out the Ixians & Tleilaxu house expansion :)
