Donkey Kong Country Returns is a side-scrolling platforming game for the Wii released in 2010, and was the first mainline Donkey Kong game to be released in a long time. The plot follows the Island in which Donkey Kong lives on suddenly being swarmed by the Tiki Tak Tribe, who then hypnotizes the animals on the island to bring bananas to the volcano. Although the tribe was able to steal the Kong's banana hoard, for some reason Donkey Kong couldn't be hypnotized. After punching the Tiki creature out of his hut, Donkey Kong goes out to stop the Tiki Tribe and get back the banana hoard.
TheRandomMaster ( tasvideos.org/... ) plays through the game to achieve a 100% completion status in record time.

This took me 3 months & what felt like a dream to do. I never thought I’d be able to pull something like this off where the run is actually so good
Some of those "K" levels were no joke. It's fun watching Donkey and Diddy breeze through them.
Facts. They made the game fun but haaaaaaard
I struggled with all of them
I know it's faster not to engage with it at all, but GOD was I looking forward to seeing how much a TAS could beat up the tikis after the bossfights...
*Game clear conditions*
✅ Complete all levels
✅ Collect K-O-N-G
✅ Get all "K" gems
*Optional clear conditions*
🟧 Get all puzzle pieces
sub only is 2:05. DO YOU LIKE RUN ?
52:15 This has got to be my favorite level of the TAS so far. So many cool tricks and skips to while getting the KONG letters.
DEE-KAY. Donkey Kong is here.
This TAS guy is so fast, he might be cheating!
Bad jokes aside, these videos are great to watch and appreciate the work that goes in them. Thanks TheRandomMaster
You're very much welcome. & Thank you too.
Really awesome TAS! I loved this game as a child and it's amazing seeing all this tech that would have blown my mind.
Honestly a bit surprising that the TAS router sometimes decides not to damage boost in some cyclic situations like at 1:02:38. The frame gain must be really tight for a lot of these!
Also cool to see them following the game's definition of "100%", only going for the mirror temple clear conditions because puzzle pieces are considered by the game to be bonus content lol
his time attack must be INSANE
Donkey Kong woke up and chose violence
this tas says it's 100% but they're not picking up the puzzle pieces what
Puzzle pieces are not apart of the 100% Category. They can be in a file completion category though.
@@KananIsMyBae ohh okay i thought it was
...what do the puzzle pieces do, again?
@ All they do is unlock full diagrams you can view in the main menu options.
The real "100%" category is 200%
100% just means all levels
Yeah puzzle pieces only unlock 90% of the extras. The other 10% is obtained for beating all the stages in mirror mode aka hard mode.
the mole train boss fight made me anxious but was so cool to watch
So that's how god plays donkey kong when he' s bored of watching humanity going crazy
tas donkey kong feels like canon donkey kong with how much he fools around when he can't do anything any faster than he already is
YESSIR We made it again!
Reminder: 2:05:10.10 is the TAS movie time but 2:04:22.37 is the RTA time
Glorious TAS of a glorious, yet flawed title. The flaw being the waggle controls. Now what psycho team are gonna take this TAS of 100% and torture themselves with doubling the length of it for Max%? Aka, Puzzle Pieces, Mirror Mode, Mirror KONG and Shining Gold Time Trials. I know there’s at least one person in the TAS community who would see it as a challenge
Is this Madagascar the game? seriously why these animals looks like the came from the wrong game
They're so funny they make me want to merge without looking.
@@Wario-The-Legend that's so weird, i was just thinking about how my favorite kind of music is hippo hop
Seriously why these replies look like they came from the wrong video.
Alex the Lion? What the hell are you doing in my car?
@@Wario-The-LegendYeah Rumsfeld!!
1:25:29 He somehow took damage before Diddy was attached to him but after the DK Barrel healed him, is that frame perfect?
I think it seen that happens before with me I think has somthing to do with the co-op mode
i didnt knew that u dont need the puzzle pieces for the 100%
This 100% category = all levels
^
Them + mirror mide + time trials is (I believe) 200%
@@Lindasaur. 200% is all levels + all levels in mirror mode. No puzzle pieces and no time trials
You only need them for 200%. 200% requires playing each level at least 3 times as well, I think.
@@jojo0753 Nope, 200% is just beating every level only once in mirror mode. Not even a single puzzle piece or time trial required. The same logic also applies to tropical freeze where even additional exits don't count for more percent, just one of the exits for each stage is required there.
1:04:10 BLJ
1:19:21 from here onwards "oh no my brain"
On the 3DS, i had completed everything, except the last stage, which is the last stage in the 3DS full world 9 and the only world 9 stage in this version, interesting, the sad thing is that i was very close to finishing it and then my 3DS SD corrupted (i had the game digitally), lost all my progress and haven't been able to accomplish it since.
dkc level design is just perfect
Good video and speedrun 🤗💪
See now THIS is what happens when you know how to run for 5 worlds
All the K levels here:
1-K... 1:43:44
2-K... 22:07
3-K... 35:32
4-K... 1:49:39
5-K... 1:54:29
6-K... 1:57:45
7-K... 2:01:34
8-K... 1:36:56
9-1... 2:03:25
What up boss keep it up more videos u are in beast mode
What constitutes 100% if you're not collecting puzzle pieces?
I guess KONG Letters and level completion if the end is anything to go by.
Apparently this speedrun fandom screwed up and called "100%" what others would refer to "Any% All Levels". Allegedly the reason is that they "Didn't want to have to route it all in". And apparently this is acceptable because the game says "100%" at some point.
@@lordgeovannisorry but you are incorrect, the category is named 100% because collecting all kong letters and beating all levels is the in game definition for 100% (ie your save file will say 100% if you do that). puzzle pieces don't count towards that and that was a choice by the developers, not the speedrunners. I'm sure there is an "all puzzle pieces" category though
@@shinydiglett I REALLY hate the stupid YT Comment Bots. Leave too many comments and they suddenly delete each comment you make. :/
Anyway, I understand you have justification for your position. But I also understand why you (and so many others) significantly misinterpret this. Please allow me to explain. (And hopefully the stupid comment is actually created this time.)
The Speedrun Collective Community was what created the terms "Any%" and "100%". Those have fixed definitions. Then, the "local" Game Speedrun Community makes further modifying rules detailing things like what glitches are permitted and such. By the DKCR Community making a Category (which is "All Stages") and misidentifying it as "100%", it leads to confusion like this original comment. "Why is Puzzle Pieces not in 100%?" If they had just called it "All Stages" it would have exactly fit and also mediated these issues. Instead, the runners want the "prestige" of having the "100%" WR and cause this problem.
In fact, this can cause future problems as well. Such as if a glitch is discovered that improves the time, but while still completing the stages could also potentially "damage" that "100%" on the save file. Yes they still complete each Stage, but now the title of "100%" is completely ineffective. Or another issue is if someone finds a way to overwrite the save file image with "100%" through something like ACE. The intention of the category is All Stage, so would an ACE run be all that fun if it did like 8% of the game?
All these problems and potential problems are all because they mislabeled the category. But if they just used "All Stages" like they should have, it wouldn't have any chance of becoming a problem.
@@shinydiglett I have typed out a reply 6 times now and YT deleted it each time. I hate this comment system.
Nothing quite like spending an hour on something some computer deletes over and over. :/
Casual RTA bro.
Every time DK got hurt during this video (not completed yet):
2:42 8:48 8:58 9:10 12:18 20:00 29:50 30:34 32:32 34:30 34:34 46:58 48:08 48:41 53:11 54:18 55:43
Every time DK got a Puzzle Piece (not completed yet):

Every time DK dash danced (not completed yet):
8:51 17:22 21:35 40:35 44:36 46:50
Now he does wavedashing: 44:56
Super Kong ain't got nothing on TAS.
I never understood why in country return & freeze DK just jump off the air. Is it like some insane amount of coyote time or is there something I'm missing?
Roll Jumping! It's from DK Country's original trilogy, the Roll counts as you being grounded until it ends, and you can Jump while "grounded," and voila! The Cranky Kong endorsed exploit!
it works pretty much the same as the snes games but i think it's more noticeable here because he goes straight off the ledge for a bit instead of immediately falling
2:48 can anyone explain the tech here? Why didn't the TAS just roll through the bird and jump onto the wall?
They needed to wait for the Cycle of the wheel above dk I think
1:37:34 highlight of the entire TAS! lol
Nice.
DO BOSSES SMASHING HITTING 22 TIMES ?
5:11 5:33 YOU CAN SKIP THOSE BARREL CANNONS?
19:45 Squiddicus wants more time on screen, DK
27:29 nice shortcut.
31:21 just like Mario, you can cross tiny gaps if you pass them very fast
32:44 Donkey Kong doesn't respect hitboxes anymore.
37:53 the way you saved many seconds on Rickety Rails really surprised me.
47:34 Hitting the barrel at "DK" doesn't take longer? Why you did not wait for it to turn into something else?
49:08 interesting shortcut
52:36 YOU SNEAKY SNAIL
53:01 Even Diddy is scared from how fast you're going.
53:08 *WHAT?!*
insane
Wait, why does the TAS wait until after 8-B to go back for the rest of the orbs?
I hope they remake Mario and Luigi inside story for switch 2 the end of this year or earlier next year for next console that the best game out of the series in my opinion I would love to see it in HD
Inside Story was remade for the 3ds in 2019 and we all know how that went.
Interesting choice on the original Wii version! Hope to see the HD version soon.
You can't TAS the HD version, and even if you could, I don't think it would be different
@@escape209 we just gotta wait another 30 years to see a switch tas
Why is that an interesting choice? It's way better for speedrunning compared to the 3ds version and was released over 2 months ago, before HD was released. Also as @escape209 mentioned, HD isn't TASable yet
@@escape209it'd actually be slower because HD has slower load times
@@escape209 I see. And it's slightly different. Now that they included world 9 from the 3DS port.
Cool🎉
MARATHON RUSH. Keep it up
0:36 hi da-
CAN YOU NEXT TAS OFF (2008) VIDEOGAME ?
Please also give me the HD version someday.
I wish they made compatable TAS tools for Switch & WiiU. Way more modern day games would've definitely been TASed.
COD: ghosts could've been tased with wiiu tas tools
57:12 nooooo Diddy 😢
Donkey Kong country returns switch speedrun in 2:05:10.10
I'm sure that's good for a silver in time attack mode! Hehe
Mmm… MONKE
Don't you know you are gonna, Shock The Monkey?
any % please😍
I'm so disappointed in this game. DKC had gorgeous music. DKC2 did too. DKC3 as well. None of the three used music from the others, they all had their own.
This game's faire to innovate by stealing DKC's soundtrack directly is indicative of the lack of vision and soul found in this game. All it can do is ride coat-tails. Just another nostalgia cash grab. Sincerely sad.
Well, you're going to be even more disappointed with the lazy HD version that got out last week.
damn I've seen a lot of different things said about this game but this is certainly the strangest one
So far you're the only person I've seen who doesn't consider these two games to be on the level as the originals
Soo uhh... congrats I guess?
