Ready made soup is incredibly expensive in the US. I can't imagine finding a can similar to you LIDL soup for less than $2.99 ...no kidding. that is true. Making soup, for those of us living in the US, is such a more affordable way to go. I make soup weekly. Thank you for this. Lentil soup is amongst my favorites.
I live in NJ. Not true. Stop & Shop…Shop Rite, Campbells’ soup $1.25. Also, the price of eggs went up of bc of bird flu. Down now though. Even so…Trader Joe’s butter $3.99 a lb. Shop Rite sale 2 pounds for $4 this week by me. Half a gallon of organic milk at Trader Joe’s $3.99! What a bargain. But perhaps you live in Hawaii or someplace where you can only go to one store. Wait till the tariffs on products from China hit us.
Hi Vivi, great stuff. I always make my soups they are so much cheaper, healthier and filling so a win all round. I also look at the expensive tins and think why does anyone pay that, but my mum does! She likes set things and that is that and I think she likes her tin cupboard😄 but I won't waste money on a tin of water.
MORE GREAT COOKING Vids! If it means you’ll stay warmer this winter. Love an enclosed kitchen! Seems time for a cup o’ coffee, too😉 for the warm company you’re providing.❤️
Love homemade lentil soup! I grew up on it , and I make it once a week. Your ingreds look nice. I never have used celery in it. I will give that a try !!looks delicious , Vivi. I know. My house thermostat reads 58 degrees- Fahrenheit ( brrrrrrr) Yep our canned Campbells soup is a bit short of $2 /can! Yay for our fresh - made soups!! ❤x
Tried a few recipes you’ve shared and can truly say I love them ❤ you make them so they are super simple to achieve. Really love them. Thank you so much 🙏
Great recipe Vivi, I love any kind of soup, I have soup most days for my lunch from September through to April. I will also have a cup of warming soup if I have been out on a cold day and feel chilled. I will be trying this recipe and am also using some of your other recipes for hearty soup.
A neighbour just passed along some carrots last evening, so I'm going to give this recipe a go, too. I can't eat garlic, but I'm sure it will be fine without it. Simple, but wholesome recipes suit me best these days. Thanks, Vivi.
Lovely, informative video - thank you! 👍👍 I think people with pay good money to watch a "Vivi chops vegetables" video!! 😁 Having had your soups I know so well they would be nicer than tinned, though as you say, having one or two in the cupoboard is ideal for those days where the time for cooking is too much or the the soup's still in the freezer. 👍👍😊😊👍👍
Hello Lovely Vivi, a pound bag of green lentils is 1.15 here or red lentils is 1.45 here. I love lentil soup but I don't blend mine I love the pop and chew of them being whole. You can also say you know what is in homemade soup... you don't have all the chemicals and preservatives and what they do to your body... Will be making your beat a cold beta keratin soup again this year as always.... all I have to say is Yum. Much Love from across the Pond 💞
Thank you , just found your channel 😊Do you make your own stock? I’ve tried to have a Quick Look at your videos but if you can point me in the right direction. I’m really trying to cut ultra processed food out .

Vivi have you never thought of having a tube of tomato puree in the cupboard it is very handy and cheaper to add a tablespoon of it to soups than a ton of tomatoes it is only about 58p a time in aldi and it lasts quite along time just thought I would suggest it xxx Elaine
Paste is great for flavour, though the good thing about a tin of tomatoes is you get extra good fibre from the tinned toms; much less so from the paste. 👍👍
I am extremely fond of YT Under the Median's lentil burger, with some salsa. You can find that recipe if you use that description to find it. Lentils are so versatile and I had no idea as we did not eat them in my part of the country when I was growing up. I don't remember seeing them anywhere. I really wish I had run into them earlier, it would have helped so much during the many years where I had so little money. Thanks for this great video.
Yum! Mouth watering & putting lentil soup on the menu for later this week…🤞🏻fingers still crossed for everything to come together smoothly ❤️ Best, Lynne
It is a shop I used to avoid as being 'pricey' but I have found some things are actually much cheaper there. 'The Grape tree' they have red lentils for £1.29 500g. Aldi also do them for that same price, but in mine they aren't stocked all the time, so I usually buy 3-4 bags when they do have it to last me a year. I also love using them for a tasty and cheap dahl. (That is also how I get my risotto rice, which is also really pricey elsewhere) Lentils feel similar to oats to me, in that stick to your ribs, fill you up kind of way. 😊

Soup! I make soups 10/12 months. Best way to stay warm, get loads of vegs (hence nutrition and fiber) and fluids in us. Also, I only use olive or avocado oils for it. I don’t know why butter in soups feels odd to me. Habit, I guess. ~Niki
Viv, i made my lentil soup and included a beetroot and it was fab so thanks for the inspiration. Then read up on hralth benefits of beetroot- you may already know this - it reduces blood pressure. As a beetroit and wanting to control your blood pressure, you might think of more beetroit recipes ( the ready cooked vacuum packs are quire economical).
Here in NY our canned soups all start at about $1.45 for a can for Campbell's and $2.39 for Progresso. Store brands are about 89 cents. I've been making my own for ages, I don't want the salt and additives. I freeze leftovers but of†en just alternate it between lunches and dinner.
Don’t know what’s got into me but I have become a cooking machine lately! Haha. I plan to make coconut chickpea and tofu curry tomorrow as the forecast is for freezing rain…well at least it isn’t snow…yet. I never asked you if you ever cook with tofu or tempeh? Bon appétit Vivi. 🌟❤️😘

Hi Vivi. We keep on hand a few canned soups. Tomato, mushroom, and vegetable. I try to get them by a flat when on sale as it can save a lot. last time it was $10.99 🇨🇦 for a flat of 12. right now one can of soup was $2.50 🇨🇦, I tend to use the tomato and the mushroom in casserole recipes But also so handy to have the vegetable and toasted cheese sandwich for a quick lunch. there are three adults in my household so one can is not enough.
Hiya Vivi, oh share a laugh, I had all the ingredients out chopped It all up then when I went get my red lentils nope not there all I had in cupboard was yellow and green split pea soo in they went instead. I’m actually making it in the crockpot. Anywhoo 🤞 take care southern Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦

ELEVEN DEGREES?!! My goodness, Viv, you are one tough woman. When I got out of bed this morning, the house was 14, so I got a good fire going and turned on the electric heater as well. I do not function until it is 22 in the house. I prefer 24. Mind you, it is around -8 outside and winter is just beginning. It will get a lot colder yet.
Have you got central heating Viv, if you have can't you put it on low just to keep the chill out of the air. Especially as you have just gotten over being so poorly. Keep yourself warm.
Please pray for my husband Will. He fell from the roof of our second story home. He is in the critical ICU at Vanderbilt. Just asking anyone to please pray for his recovery and healing. Thank you
This is a match for my recipe. 😊 I like to put smoked paprika in for a change. And like yourself, I sometimes make it with tinned tomatoes, adding mixed herbs. I always have some in the freezer. If we don’t have enough for a full portion each, we have a soup and toasted sandwich meal. 😋 Lentils used to be incredibly cheap protein. Still competitive value though.
I love lentil soup, I also make what I call Fridge Bottom Soup, which is all the vegetables left at the end of the week.
😅😊
❤️🦋🥰
My kids called it Refrigerator Soup. It never tasted the same but they sure looked forward to soup day.
I call it Use It Or Lose It Soup. Or curry…Or pasta sauce…..😊
