I appreciate your review. Honestly man, Micarta is tough as nails. We use it at work for various purposes as well as my last job as an industrial mechanic at a steel mill. Heck, I've even cut lengths of it to use as a punch for bronze bushings and it held up better than I expected. I don't think it will be an issue for 99.99% of users.
Hey thanks for the input and thanks for watching! I absolutely agree with you, I also have a lot of experience working with Micarta. However my concern wasn't really from a strength perspective but more from the perspective that there shouldn't be any flex on the scales to that level where you could fit a sheet of paper in between. Not on such an expensive knife made by a company with the ability to make a high end folder like Spyderco. The thinness of the cut behind the lock tab to me just felt way too thin in an agitative way. Kind of like it ruined the "flow" of the knife in hand and in use. It will be a problem for some, not for others. All that being said, I keep thinking about the knife and trying some different scales haha (Im a sucker for exposed liners)! Rock on.

I haven’t held one so I don’t know. But I do remember people made a similar deal about the flex in the bugout, which I do have. And that was a big nothing for me personally on the bugout. It moves a little if you squeeze a certain way, but otherwise I don’t notice it or care if I do. The performance is still there and I’m glad to have the extra lightness.

I am not sure how old this video is but I have had mine since they came out and after a day or two of carrying it you will have totally forgotten about the cut out, mine has not cracked or split or anything and I use my stuff the way it was intended and she still is going strong. Took me a little fiddling to get it to center with my OCD but i got her there, LOL. Have a good one.
The flex is there if your pressing specifically on that area! When I use (XL-XXL Sized hands) the knife in hammer grip breaking down double walled Cardboard, I don't notice the flex at all. Even activating the compression lock tab in normal use is not an issue! I personally don't see the scale failing in that area, But I'm sure we'll see post/pictures of breakage where people couldn't leave it alone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and glad to see a video from you!
Yeah I don’t see it necessarily being at any inherent risk of just “failing” due to that flex, even tho I can see how it could over time. But for me, I can’t avoid squeezing that area of knife in general use. The biggest issue I personally have with it is just “lessening” the feel of the knife significantly for me. But! Everyone will have different opinions and use case scenarios. I know it’s going to work fine for some, be a total no-go for others, and be a firm middle ground for the rest, which is where I’d probably land at the moment. Thanks for watching!
I just bought one last night before i saw this vidieo, thank you for highlighting the problem with this knife. I will definitely be changing out the scales for g10.
This is a great knife, don’t let this guys opinion steer you away from this version. It’s great and there is a reason Spyderco designed it this way. I use this knife everyday, I’m in the trades and work out side, the micarta holds up like a beast and I love the way it wears in.

Awesome video! Have my Crucarta PM 2 for over a year now and just swapped out the micarta scales for AWT aluminum scales. Love the heft, no flexing of the scales and now it feels like a premium knife. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Tom! Glad to be back. Spyderco is the only brand really keeping the true enthusiast spirit going I feel. They’re always trying new things, engaging with us, giving us what we ask for, and focusing on the important stuff like heat treat, high hrc’s, thin grinds, etc. gotta love em! 🔥🤙
I had the same concerns when I got this Crucarta PM2, but after over 2 years of EDC, I have had zero issues with this design. They did the Cruwear nice as well as mine sharpens and deburrs great. Zero issues.
@@rangerjonoutdoors6429 Right on! But you have more choices Ranger Jon ..... Para 3 Crucarta, Military 2 and even a Crucarta Manix 2. I grabbed a Para 3 about a month ago when they first hit and gave it the second sharpening this A.M. Really felt good, edge came up fast, and deburred nice. I run a coarse edge on it at 600 grit as it's a shop knife, its impressive and strops back well. The micarta on my Para 3 is a dark brown/red, not tan like my Paramilitary 2, not sure if the colors change from batch to batch.
Thanks for the great review and for showing the cut-out in the micarta so clearly. I went a little overboard this month with knife purchases: a Pro-Tech SBR, a Native 5 in Rex 45 and a Shaman in M4. I was seriously thinking about grabbing one of these PM2s as well (I love micarta and HSS) but after watching your vid, I think I'll hold off and look for other options. BTW, you've got a great voice for narration.
This PM2 beats all of those, maybe except for the Shaman, you should definitely get it and invest in some custom scales later on. Mine has the RC Bladeworks burgundy micarta scales which fix the cut-out issue.
Wow I was really excited for this knife before seeing this scale cut out! Now I see what you mean about it taking away from the overall quality craftsmanship. I wish they didn't make it so thin and flexible because the rest of the knife is so sturdy. Maybe aftermarket scales will be the way to go, idk. Thanks for the honest video though.
I'll certainly agree that micarta just isn't an ideal scale material for folding knives, especially ones with locking mechanism that utilize part of the liner or frame. Even though the Shaman is of course a folder, those micarta scales are similar to scales one would see on a fixed blade knife, they are that beefy. If they would have skipped thinning the scales, that may have alleviated this issue quite a bit, but unfortunately in it's current form it does not feel like a very sturdy knife. I hope they are able to make some design changes and put out an updated version next year. It's surprising that they took so long, supposedly because of design challenges, yet still ended up putting out a moderately compromised design. Thanks for the review!
I couldn’t agree more on all points. I don’t hate the knife at all and I’m actually excited to see some aftermarket scales come out. But, as it sits I’m having a hard time warming up to that thin flexy scale. Thanks for watching!
Your calm demeanor and respectful approach to things you may not particularly like was nice to see. Too many people have their emotions dialed so high it’s like the world is ending if they don’t like something in one of their reviews. Subscribed, love the vibe. Feels like a nice fireside chat with an old friend
Nicely considered and presented review - thank you! Perhaps an additional thin lip of micarta above the lock bar would create a greater risk of the scale cracking. I think we might be seeing future Cruwear /Zwear PM2’s in coloured g10…
I’ve been wanting one since they were announced. Got one today. I’m not a reviewer and wouldn’t have even noticed the weird micarta cutout if you had not pointed out. Feels great in hand to me. Action is wonderful out of the box. Blade centered perfect. My new edc for now.
Glad it’s working for you Steve! For whatever reason the micarta cutout stands out prominently to me, but boy do I sure like the rest of the knife! Thanks for watching.
I just picked up a PM2 with CruWear and brown micarta. Comparing it to my older G10 PM2, I immediately noticed the thinner micarta section on top and larger opening. While it does look unfinished, I found this video which takes the knives apart and compares the scales and liners of the G10 and Micarta versions. I realized the G10 scales are not thicker -- they just include a top lip that narrows the opening. While the lip provides some structural rigidity and G10 is more rigid than Micarta, the author suggests there's no reason to be concerned about the micarta version in hard use. After watching this video, I'm inclined to be less concerned about the new design than I was originally. ua-cam.com/video/uyorzzRu1DE/v-deo.html
The whole flexing micarta thing is a complete non-issue for me. Sure, it might flex a bit in extreme situations, but that's a lot different than the entire handle flexing, like in a Bugout. Those steel liners are stupid stiff and confidence inspiring. I've had my Crucarta PM 2 for about a week and absolutely love it. And like yours, mine came stupid sharp! The only knife I ever bought that came sharper was a TRM Neutron 2. That thing was beyond scalpel sharp!
I got one of these last week and I have been using it hard since then. I have not had any issues with flex and I don't have any problem with the feel or the cutout.
Got mine a couple months ago. Love all my Spyderco knives, but I noticed it right off the bat. I'm like you.. It's not finished for the money to me !!!
Thanks Brewhound much appreciated! I’m not a “flavor of the month” kinda guy so you won’t see this channel flooded with whatever the hot new Chinese flipper is each week 😂. It’s been a good while but I thank you for standing by and I hope to have some good content on the way. 🔥🤙
You nailed it, I feel the same way about mine which a just received. I wish I had seen this video before I ordered mine. I will be looking for some aftermarket new scales for mine.
While I did notice this " negative " attribute you pointed out and I am watching you're review post purchase I can't really see it as negative in my every day use. It's there and that's just how it is, I suppose we individually will like or dislike in any case it is a very nice addition to my pocket. Thanks for the honest feelings and I doubt this will ever be an issue while you carry the knife unless it becomes a fixation.
The full liner feel... I agree. The gayle Bradley, the pakkawood seki models. Even my sage 1 maxamet is super classy. Cruwear makes sense as a folder steel at high hardness, I’m wondering how hard they ran it. I’m getting this model to make custom scales. I even want to try to remove the show scale liner, and use carbon fiber for rigidity. I think of all materials, micarta would hold up the best against the pressures on the cutout. With stuff like g10 and cf, the material yields, then quickly breaks after the yield point. Micarta just flexes, but It does return. I’m wondering if someone could run a test flexing micarta seeing if they can fatigue it. Makes me consider a micarta framelock. OZ machine company has already done a carbon fiber framelock. The lip on the g10 model would certainly shear diagonally if that makes sense. Imagine the layers of cloth on top. It’ll have lateral strength, but twisting or diagonal forces can defeat the composite. I’m thinking about making a video about this. The way composites flex is very interesting. There’s even a difference in 1x1 twill and 2x2 twill. If you want, I can make some more rigid scales for you when I get mine, and get the pattern down (pro bono obviously)
Glad to see you put out a video and I have onw on the way so I'll see how it does. I also thought that area was done differently from some early pictures and video I saw about it. If it doesn't work out that Cruwear blade would be awesome to swap in a standard PM2. I'm glad they finally put Cruwear out as regular production and I hope to see it in a few more models that way.
I agree! I think it will be great for many folks and I really like the rest of the knife outside of that cutout. I hope yours works for you and thanks for watching!
Great info on this one. Good craniums up call on the design differences b/w the G10 and the Micarta on this PM2. I have one on order to see for myself. Like you, I will probably keep it and use it as my new EDC. Well done. TY.
The first bugout I bought had a grivory handle and it had a terrible flex. It bugged the heck out of me. I had to send it back. I know exactly what why it bugs him. I was initially going to get this PM2 but not now. I’ll wait til I can get one in M390.
It’s bizarre for sure and I’m assuming the wisdom of Eric and Sal had a solid reason for constructing it like that. However it doesn’t change the fact it takes so much away from the feel of quality at least for me. I’m hoping I can overcome it because the rest of the knife is superb.
I just came across your video. I realize this is 3 months old, but I have 2 of these knives because I like the steel so much. On one, I changed out the scales to flytanium, and I left the other stock. If it’s any consolation, I’ve been daily carrying the micarta one for about 2 months, as I love the feel. I use the knife on a farm, and like a PM2 for a beater. I hadn’t even noticed that the scale has this cutout until seeing your video, but I have not had any issues with it cracking or the flex increasing. I’ve put it through some moderate usage, but nothing drastic. If mine is par for the course, I’d say that you’re totally fine using it as is without worrying about it breaking. Obviously, the micarta on mine has darkened quite a bit, but it’s holding up just fine.
Hey howdy thanks for watching! That’s great to hear I really love the pm2 and I really love cruwear. I didn’t necessarily think of it as a point of failure especially not on a paramilitary, Just for me personally in my borderline OCD personality that scale flex and everything did bother me personally just a little bit too much. Glad it’s working out and if I ever get some spare scales or feel like dropping a little extra cash on one again in the future I know I will really enjoy it. Rock on. Enjoy the farm! Thanks for watching!
I differ to say, but it is a negative. Would have preferred Neste liners in the micarta to make it stronger. I a chain breaks by it's weakest link, this is the weakest link in this model. Glad to see you putting out a video.😁👍
I just picked this up the other day and it’s literally my second knife in this hobby and I am absolutely hooked haha. So after picking this up, I decided to look up videos on mods and I’m curious about this color scheme with like a acid wash blade and then stonewash for more effect. Also how has the handle changes since picking this one up? Curious on your thoughts and great review thank you
Use a nail file and break the inside edge of the cut out. It will stop catching. Very few knives under $400 bucks without a few sharp edges needing rounding over. It doesn’t take much. I “barrowed” a double sided one from my wife, I only ever need to use the smooth side.
Really liked the vid. I think you're right about the handle scales (and that G10 would not have the same problem). I actually own a Para 3 with aftermarket Micarta scales (and I love both the scales and the knife), but this also makes me aware of the compromises involved with the material. My knife doesn't have that issue with flex as the scales are much thicker. My Para 3 also came from the factory with a perfectly tuned action (no blade play, yet it would absolutely fall shut). When I swapped in my Micarta scales... I don't want to say I completely ruined the action, but it was def no longer perfectly tuned. I had to crank the pivot all the way down to eliminate blade play, and after that I had to use a bit of muscle to flip the knife open and shut. Recently, I tried to restore the action to its former glory. I tried the normal stuff (clean, lube, even polish the washers), and that made it smoother but not lighter. So I took the knife apart again and carefully compared the scales. Up to that point I honestly didn't notice how much thinner the factory G10 scales were. So I sanded down my micarta scales everywhere I thought they might contact the blade, reassembled my knife and... eureka, I got my perfect fall-shut action with no blade play back. Until I saw your video, I just assumed the guy who made my scales just didn't have his tolerances as perfect as Spyderco did. Then I saw your video and realized why he made the scales thicker. I also notice Spyderco built that knife to a price point. It's what $165? Like $15 more than the base model? And the scales are obviously the exact same dimensions as the regular G10 scales (which as you correctly observe is a more rigid material). So Spyderco obviously just milled them on the exact same machines, programmed the exact same way as with the regular G10 scales. As I just learned, it would be possible to make a Para military 2 (or Para 3) with Micarta scales that's great in every way (perfect action, solid construction) but... one way or another the extra labor involved would drive the final cost up by a lot since you'd either need crazy specific tolerances where the blade is secured by the pivot (which I'd guess would need to be determined by trial and error), or else you'd need to assign a QC person to each knife to hand-sand and get the spacing just right (also through trial and error like I did at home). Either way it'd probably bump the price from $165 to well over $200. Even though I love Micarta (and would def customize my own knife the same way again), I'd have to conclude by agreeing with you again. The solution for Spyderco (who, great as they are, still need to build their knives to some kind of price point) would probably be to do the next sprint run in some kind of fancy G-10 instead. Maybe something similar to what Hogue or Southern Grind use?
The cutout looks like something that could fail if one has a bit of a bad luck when accidentally dropping the knife or getting something get caught in that area. The only ‘remedy’ I see is that on a full liner model it will be easier to make custom scales. Indeed - everyone has to decide for themselves whether this is an issue or not. Thank you for pointing it out.
I have this one and the new S45vn g10 model. I think I will use the Cruwear until the micarta breaks and the S45vn until the blade breaks and then put the cruwear and g10 together to make the ultimate knife eventually.
As soon as I noticed the thin part of the scale on mine I came straight to youtube and seen your video. I agree, I'm concerned about it how thin it is. Otherwise I love the knife.
Just a guess, but it's possible that they opted not to lengthen the lip, as seen in the G10 version, to prevent potential degradation of the end part of the lip, near the lock area, with a softer material like micarata.
Just got mine after a yr wait. I love the knife so far but see your point. I think it will last many yrs but will fail at that point later in life. With that said. I'm keeping mine, it may end up to be very collectable later on ??!
Yeah I definitely don’t think it’s gonna be a point A failure it is still a PM2 at the end of the day which is great! For me personally and my more borderline OCD personality I just couldn’t handle the scale flex lol🤣. Thanks for watching!
As long as you're not flexing it or running your thumb across it, it's like it's not even there. You'll forget about it eventually. It really probably just doesn't make sense to have to mill the whole scale just for a little lip that probably wouldn't hold up though the milling process without breaking. The flex is good. Otherwise it would crack. Most things will break though, if you try and break them.
I have one on the way, but I can say right now from watching this that I’ll be flipping it right around and sending it back. This kind of thing would drive me crazy and I know I would never be able to dial in to this knife with that issue. It’s really a shame as we waited a long time for this. What were they thinking?
Hey Frank Like I said in the video I’d get your hands on it first! See what you think! It may not bother everyone the same. Or it may! Lol . Thanks for watching
Thats great that that worked for you! Good idea.I found that cut behind the lock tab to be overly thin and "wafery" feeling in use regardless of the flex. Just my personal preferences something about it drove me nuts. (First world problems i know! lol)
Hi there! Nice review! I wonder if there are some other scales for this particular PM2? Cause there are tones of "conventional" scales for regular PM2 folders, but for this particular one, with full exposed liners, I didn't manage to find those.. Thanks! P.S.: maybe someone did Ti scales swap for PM2?
I myself is also struggling of buying a blue scales s110v or this micarta cruwear, the scale thing is also a big problem to me, and I think because of new structure on micarta version it's not possible to change scales right....
What makes Cruwear a good candidate for outdoor cutlery in your experience? I plan on using my PM 2 Cruwear outside 75% of the time and I anticipate it getting dirty and wet with some frequency.
liked and subscribed! gotta agree with that criticism of the grabby scale. i don't think i'm going to like that either, but i hope i'll get used to it.. i want the cruwear and love the looks of the micarta--if it breaks, it's not the end of the world...
That cutout is there because the linerlock has to move and flex to use it. The rest of the thin Micarta on the knife is supported by the liners . What you can do is replace the left side Micarta with an aftermarket grip or return the knife for a refund not worth keeping a knife with flaws. I am sure Spyderco tests these knives for toughness and they have a lifetime warranty if this knife should have a problem. I just ordered one of these today before I watched your video and I may cancel my order on this knife . These are not cheap knives at $171.00 and any imperfections is not tolerable.
Hey Mark I agree. I have been Telling everyone like yourself to go ahead and get the knife in your hands first before making any decisions. It’s a really nice knife and I’m looking forward to aftermarket scales to come out. I really do like the expose steel liners. The flex in personal issues I have with that micarta scale may not bother you or someone else at all I think this one will come down to a lot of personal preference honestly. The rest of the knife Is extremely appealing! Thanks for watching!
Try taking the scales off get a small watercolor like paintbrush and paint a couple of coats of epoxy over the thin area on the inside part of the scale and it will stiffen it up
@@evile1174 they could have done a better job at making those scales a different way with no problem. Linen micarta is very strong , they should have done a cutout like they did on the older para 2 design. It would have been just fine. I have other knives with recessed Liners in Micarta and they were fine. That design was a deal breaker for me I sent it back and bought the older style para 2.
@@jameslehner2433 I’m keeping mine. I know people that have had this model for over a year and zero issues. That “weak” spot isn’t weak really at all. I understand folks concern, but it’s proven to be a non issue.
So you can middle finger flick yours? Didn’t see you do it in the video so I wasn’t sure. I actually got 2 from Knife Center and they’re both the same. Easy with the thumb flick but impossible with the middle finger.
What the hell were they thinking when they designed this. Were they high.. Does the compression lock stick out of the box? does the choil of the blade sits parallel to the edge of the right scale handle when shut? This is what hits the tip of your index finger when you drop shut, which needs to be redesigned. They fixed this issue on the Para 3. I don't know why they are still stuck on the old design.
I saw this as well and was thinking that people would be hyped for whatever reson because people tend to get crazy about mircata. But honestly its just another pm 2🤷🏻♂️
There’s always SOMEthing that gives me pause about purchasing a PM2. I was psyched to see this Crucarta version, but that giant, extended cut out on the lock bar side of the knife seems like a lazy/cheap design decision. Oh well, I’ll just buy another M4 Sage5 LW instead. They’re built better in Taichung than in Golden. That’s kinda sad, but undeniable.
Where can I get titanium scales for this model? I keep seeing comments the ones from flytanium will not work with the liners being different I am new to knives and would appreciate someone finding me scales with some weight I can swap out
I'm a dork, so I surf bladeforums and watch youtube knife videos pretty frequently. I still haven't heard of anyone breaking this micarta. Is anyone aware of it happening yet? Can it finally be deemed a non-issue?
I was told the para 2 is one of the most customizable knives out there, come to find out I bought this version witch doesn’t have after market scales because of the liner… if someone wanted to trade me I’d be willing for the older model so I can add whatever scales I want
I got one of these recently. Great looking knife but was extremely stiff to open. I lubed it gently but now the lube has stained the wood and it looks crappy after owning for two minutes lol. Anyone have a suggestion to overcome this?
It kind of depends on what you want from a blade steel. That will usually determine which PM2 you get. The S110V version is a great upgrade from the S30V model.
it's a Soldier's knife, that means Cruwear is one of the best choices for this kind of knife. Whoever says that this steel is wrong on this knife, should start a new Hobby, especially if he's not new to knives.

@@arizolamydude, website is Applied Weapons Tech, they have scales for different brand knives. I guarantee you'll love them. 👍
Welcome back Jon. Nice to hear your voice and to know you will be evaluating more Spyderco knives - my favorite brand as well.
Great to hear!! I’m probably going to pick one up again. It looks like it’s turned into a real winner
Besides the fact that I hate micarta on a base level, the points raised here make me lean even more to the DLT Trading G10 cruwear.
@@rangerjonoutdoors6429 It stood out to me too, had to grab another PM2 to compare why it looked so weird to me.
It’s been over a month of everyday carry. So far like it fine, starting to develop character.
Glad to see you back Jon
Thanks Gordon! Good to be getting back :)
Sure, it might flex a bit in extreme situations, but that's a lot different than the
entire handle flexing, like in a Bugout.
Very honest review, thank, I'm trying to understand the meaning of the cutout on the micarta, I don't see a reason to do that.
Got mine a couple months ago. Love all my Spyderco knives, but I noticed it right off the bat. I'm like you.. It's not finished for the money to me !!!
I'm glad to see you back. Been subbed for a couple years and was hoping for the best for you.
Thanks Brewhound much appreciated! I’m not a “flavor of the month” kinda guy so you won’t see this channel flooded with whatever the hot new Chinese flipper is each week 😂. It’s been a good while but I thank you for standing by and I hope to have some good content on the way. 🔥🤙
Thanks for pointing this out, I was just about to buy one, but I won’t be anymore, that cutout would just bother me to much.
You nailed it, I feel the same way about mine which a just received. I wish I had seen this video before I ordered mine. I will be looking for some aftermarket new scales for mine.
Great video. Seems like none of use like the gap lol. I think I'm gonna make a back spacer for mine to fill it in
While I did notice this " negative " attribute you pointed out and I am watching you're review post purchase I can't really see it as negative in my every day use.
Thanks man! Just saved me $188, I appreciate it :)
Glad to hear from you Jon. Hope you're doing well :)
Thanks! Happy to be back and doing as good as can be :)
Thanks so much! You helped me avoid a bad decision. This would really bother me. I’ll go with the G10 S45VN option.
It's a feature. It allows the user to exert, should they want to, additional force to the engagement bar of the liner-lock mechanism.
Great video sir I think I’m gonna get one too. The liner is a little bizarrre to me too
It’s bizarre for sure and I’m assuming the wisdom of Eric and Sal had a solid reason for constructing it like that. However it doesn’t change the fact it takes so much away from the feel of quality at least for me. I’m hoping I can overcome it because the rest of the knife is superb.
Wow nice to know about the flex before grabbing one
I would say it’s worth getting in hand first. Lots of folks won’t be bothered by it especially if you’re after cruwear! Thanks for watching ! 🔥🤙
5:30 Its exactly what I have been looking for. It was hard to find those informations across youtube. Thanks!
Was probably ordering for my birthday. Glad I saw this video. That thin spot would definitely bug me. I'll stick with my G10 handle PM2
Curious on your thoughts and great review thank you
Just ordered one of these from REC and can’t wait to get it in hand!
Wow, I was about to buy this knife ... Thank you for high-lighting these serious quality issues, unacceptable, especially at this price point!!
Use a nail file and break the inside edge of the cut out. It will stop catching. Very few knives under $400 bucks without a few sharp edges needing rounding over. It doesn’t take much. I “barrowed” a double sided one from my wife, I only ever need to use the smooth side.
I bought one a week ago no issues
Thanks for you honest opinion!
…..that’s the video I wanted to see.
I will don’t buy it.
Nice to hear from you again.
Best regards from Germany
Thanks Fernando! It’s a great knife I just don’t know if that scale will work for me sadly. Take care!
Thanks. You helped me make my decision. I'll pass on this one.
I've already broken micarta on one knife, I'm not going to risk it in this one. Glad to see that. I think I'll stick to the cruwear Manix.
I have the micarta PM2 also and was immediately disappointed in the same thing about the micarta.
Thanks for the honest review. I could tell it bothered you. I almost pushed the button and you saved me money. I seems very cardboard ish.
I’ll buy it
Great video. Thanks for all the detail. I will definitely pass on the micarta PM2.
That cut out would drive me nuts. I’d be sending it back.
I snagged one for summer. like my Zwear shaman for winter it's heavier
I just ordered mine and then I see your video. Fucccccck. The new bugout . If you know you know !!!
One drop of super glue between scale and liner on opposite side of cut-out and almost all flex and definitely all warping goes away. Tried and tested.
Thats great that that worked for you! Good idea.I found that cut behind the lock tab to be overly thin and "wafery" feeling in use regardless of the flex. Just my personal preferences something about it drove me nuts. (First world problems i know! lol)
Great review good observations on the knife keep it up !
Thanks for showing this one. Ugh! Not really happy with the cutout in the scale.
Yeah it’s something I’m having a hard time with to be honest. It takes quite a bit away from the enjoyment of what feels like such a great knife
That cut out might be because that area has a tendency to pinch your hand when you slow roll the knife
I'm glad my PM2 Cruwear doesn't have the full liners. Knife center exclusive for the win.
Guessing the liner cutout isn't an 8ssue since ive never seen any example of it breaking
Try taking the scales off get a small watercolor like paintbrush and paint a couple of coats of epoxy over the thin area on the inside part of the scale and it will stiffen it up
I was thinking the EXACT same thing! It would strengthen it also (if a person is worried about that thin area being weak)
@@evile1174 they could have done a better job at making those scales a different way with no problem. Linen micarta
is very strong , they should have done a cutout like they did on the older para 2 design.
@@evile1174 you're right about that but it just doesn't feel or look right to me I don't like the way it looks.
So you can middle finger flick yours? Didn’t see you do it in the video so I wasn’t sure. I actually got 2 from Knife Center and they’re both the same. Easy with the thumb flick but impossible with the middle finger.
I can! The action is one of the best I’ve ever had on a pm2 smooth as butter with a nice tight detent. I’m very impressed!
Any updated impressions on it?
It doesn’t stand out or bother me. The micarta already makes it feel different in my hand . But I see what you mean.
Thanks, couldn’t agree more. Makes it a no deal for me.
Jon also what distributor did you end up buying this through? Everywhere I have seen it’s out of stock. Thanks
I got it from Red Hill Cutlery when they had a few in stock. Thanks for watching
@@rangerjonoutdoors6429 thanks sir
I keep seeing comments the ones from flytanium will not work with the liners being different I am new to knives and would appreciate someone finding me scales with some weight I can swap out
Glad you did this review, I'll pass on this one.
That cut out is absolutely a MAJOR design flaw. it's a beautiful knife but wouldn't risk hard use with it...
Glad i went g10 unfortunately it seems you exposed an oversight in the micarta design.
I'm a dork, so I surf bladeforums and watch youtube knife videos pretty frequently. I still haven't heard of anyone breaking this micarta. Is anyone aware of it happening yet? Can it finally be deemed a non-issue?
Seems like thr tab is securing the compression lock even more 🤔 😀
If you add butcher block oil to the handle, will it ruin the micarta ?
I was told the para 2 is one of the most customizable knives out there, come to find out I bought this version witch doesn’t have after market scales because of the liner… if someone wanted to trade me I’d be willing for the older model so I can add whatever scales I want
I'm disappointed in how light colored the scales are compared to product photos.
Yeah that would drive me nuts too
That’s a sharp looking knife 😊
I got one of these recently. Great looking knife but was extremely stiff to open. I lubed it gently but now the lube has stained the wood and it looks crappy after owning for two minutes lol. Anyone have a suggestion to overcome this?
Best option might be to swap out the blade into another.
How is your detent? Mine was a little weaker then my other PM2's
Hey Sean my detent seems to be about the same as my other pm2’s! It’s very smooth tho on this one I will say
I’m looking to get my first PM2. Anybody not recommend this over the regular G10 version?
It kind of depends on what you want from a blade steel. That will usually determine which PM2 you get. The S110V version is a great upgrade from the S30V model.
it's a Soldier's knife, that means Cruwear is one of the best choices for this kind of knife. Whoever says that this steel is wrong on this knife, should start a new Hobby, especially if he's not new to knives.
