PLEASE NOTE... There are many things left unexplained in this video. Such as Hakon, the Bazaar and Survivors, etc. These will be covered in smaller videos in the near future. Just an example of how much this world contains in terms of lore!

You forgot that the walls weren't built to keep the infected out at all, villedor was one of the first cities with outbreaks so the gre and the military built huge walls around the city to keep infected and people in quarantine. The funny thing is, the outbreak in the rest of the world became worse than the one in villedor and the walls ended up keeping the hoards out of the city, thus huge amounts of refugees made their way into the city. This initial quarantine is also why the majority of the villedor citizens are actually infected, and why everyone has biomarkers. This is also why there are so many gre labs and facilities in the city as they tried to use the first city outbreak to try and create a cure.
Another interesting thing is that there are many times in the game where it is implied that many other cities were also quarantined with this walls, yet they either fell or haven't been heard from.

Tbh, I don't really like any of these endings. To me, it's just a downwards spiral from "not bad, but not great" to "We're fucked". The Survivors ending is just that the Free Folk are in charge and that the Night Runners are back in force, but we don't see how any of this really affects the City. All you get is "Hey we got a soup kitchen, also some people died last night." Nothing really happens here, which is really the only thing that makes this the "good" ending.
The Peace Keeper Ending is that they have turned Villador into a totalitarian police state, where crime is punishable by death for the perpetrator and their family. Which obviously makes this a fairly bad ending. Renegade Ending is kinda the same except that Juan and Williams are in charge, and that far more people seem to die. And of course the X13 Missile Ending is the worse for obvious reasons. The problem with these endings is that there isn't enough information to go off of. You only get a few snipets of information that don't paint a clear picture. Like, the least they could've done was say that each of the Factions handled problems in their own way. Here's some examples:
Free Folk: the Leaders of Villador form a council where representatives of the Bazaar, Night Runners, PKs, and maybe even Renegades, work together on major issues that affect all of them. However, all Factions are free to do what they want, as long as they don't threaten or harm the others. They could've also add in that fewer people are killed by the infected at Night, thanks to the efforts of the Night Runners.
PK Ending: The PKs turn Villador into a stratocracy, where everyone works hard to ensure law and order are upheld and the City becomes more akin to a Fortress. The rules are still harsh, but bandits are no longer an issue, and even some Dark Zones have been cleared out, making the City safer at night. Jack Matt is idolized and revered as a great man in PK propaganda, and citizens are expected to give there lives for the New Order.
But, hey. I'm not a story writer. I just think that there should at least be more context in these endings so we fully understand what our choices have led to.

You know this is a complaint that I have with a lot of story oriented games like this such as "Fallout, outer wilds, etc." Where they only give you bad or extreme choices for factions to side with, which harms the story since is there is nothing interesting about choosing the lesser of 2 evils. It turns the story into a slog that you just can't stand to listen to. I hate having to choose between one faction that is either completely inept at achieving their goals or another faction that goes too far and borders on becoming a totalitarian police state like the PK's.

The PK outside of the central loop are 100x better than the bazaar as they are reasonable and understanding. I'm not sure if has already been discussed or not, but what if the virus in Dying Light 2 is sort of, I guess you could say different strain than the virus that was based in Harran. Remember at the end of The Following DLC in DL1, Kyle is forced to drink the blue liquid by the mother. Him already being infected and the effects of the blue liquid may have had reactions with each other and the properties of the mother, because she had ingested the blue liquid too (like her being sentient in the daytime and not being able to control the nature of the volatile at night.), so that gives us some idea of light coming into play with the new strain that Kyle Crane introduced into the uninfected world. Like sunlight and UV light have to do with how long it takes to turn if you're already infected in DL2 because the darkness makes the virus take effect very quickly. So what if Kyle drinking that liquid and already being infected created a different strain of the virus than the one in Harran and that's why it's much much different compared to DL1's Harran virus.
Thanks for reading this, I was just watching the video and I had a random thought all of a sudden. Maybe I should've gone into more detail but I tried my best to explain with most of the stuff I recalled from the first game lmao

Ah but see, in the beginning of the game, in the short little introduction, they literally say they’ve cured the Harran virus, but the GRE kept running tests on it and eventually a new strain, the one we see in DL2, escaped a GRE lab. So the virus in DL2 already is a different strain of the OG virus, but with a somewhat less interesting origin than the one you provided.

    Few things:
    1) Harran and DL1 didn't happen in 2015. It happened in Spring of 2014 1:00
    2) Lucas was just a commander, not THE leader. That's why Aitor takes his position. Jack Matt is the leader. 3:33
    3) This decision doesn't change much at all. It only changes what you see in that specific quest itself and who guides you through the water tower. What REALLY changes things is who you give the water tower to. You can choose Aitor, but still give the tower to the Survivors and vise versa. 6:00
    4) It's population pre outbreak was 4 million. We know this because people both say half of Villedor died and 2 million people died in Black Monday. 13:36
    5) also it's more likely that Peacekeepers weren't disguised as Renegades as they're loyal to the cause. Prisoners or Bandits were probably used as an excuse while being given weapons and told to shoot frank in exchange for money or freedom.
But...of course... you always do a great job with the lore with only minor discrepancies. Keep up the great work Harry! Did OniZombies contact you?

    • @GamingHarryYT
      @GamingHarryYT  2 роки тому +40

Thanks! But I’d like to rebut a couple of things.
      1) No one really knows EXACTLY when the Harran Outbreak started. Even Techland don’t seem to know 😂 they state on their own ‘which monster are you?’ site that the Harran Outbreak took place in 2013! And then in Nightmare Row it places the Harran Games as taking place in 2015! Some people say 2014. Who knows!
      2) Yeah Lucas wasn’t THE leader but he was leader of the Peacekeepers in Old Villedor, whilst Jack Matt was their main leader. A commander is technically still a leader.
      3) I never said it changes much, but it does potentially send you down two possible routes which lead to the same destination (a central narrative if you will). I guess I was wrong in my timing as the main choice comes in terms of who you choose to believe when you find the skin in Barney’s room. This determines whether the PK are hostile towards you in the tunnel where you meet Waltz.
      4) That would mean there are still around 2,000,000 people living in Villedor at the time of the game. There are definitely NOT 2,000,000 people in Villedor. I believe they say ‘half the city was bombed’, not half the population was killed.
      5) Lawan tells you on the radio when in Williams’ base that they were Peacekeepers disguised as Renegades. There would have been people loyal to Matt higher up in the PK
But thanks for your comment! No, not been in contact yet.

It did happen in Spring 2014, but I think he was referring to the events of DL1, not the initial outbreak and he wasn't explicitly saying so. Whether 2015 or 2014, if I recall correctly, there was something about the game prior to release that the events of DL1 take place 3 or 6 months after the initial outbreak but whether that's true or not will likely remain unknown. So if it's in 2014, it would have to be Summer or Early Fall, which would put it close to 2015 at least.
DL2 in some fashion seemed to imply that Harran was still infested even years after the events as it was considered an exclusion zone in 2015 which is shown on a Newspaper you can find, which is likely why our guy here was thinking 2015 as the 1st game's year. It's certainly possible. We could say it's either Summer/Fall 2014 or Spring/Summer 2015.

      1) We know for a fact that Dying Light 2, the main source for info, has a History Quiz side quest that asks "When was the Harran Outbreak" and the answer is Spring 2014. But yes Techland is very inconsistent.
      2) You right.
      3) You right.
      4) Not necessarily true. Black Monday created a ton of infected and killed many people. We hear in game through sound effects and random encounters that dozens upon dozens of people die every day and night. That was In 2025. It's been 11 years. A lot of people can die in that time. Especially when the military was ousted during The Revolution/Civil War in 2025. Plus you know that Carl said in his tapes that he specifically says half of the people died. 2 million.

    DLC Suggestion:
    Dying Light 2 Reawakening
    Plot:
25 years after the Harran Virus Outbreak, Kyle Crane was in a state of stasis, having him nested on one of the Volatiles' Nests and is now partially one of them. This time is different, he regains his humanity and seemed to be half volatile and human.
    Main missions:
    1. Escape the volatile nest - after awakening inside a torn down flesh pod, Kyle Crane survives and naked. He is now trying to escape the nest. This is where something happens to him. He has the abilities of the special infected, and seemed be highly dangerous than he thought about. After escaping the nest, he went for a hundred kilometer walk, eventually getting saved by a survivors.
    Skill Tree Unlocked
The new Skill Tree has something to do with his Agility, Power, and the new one, Mutation. Agility is based on the speed, stamina, and parkour tp maintain the balance of sneak, evasion, and escape. Power is based on combat mechanism, executions, highly dangerous tactics, and also craftsmanship. The new skill tree is Mutation. This is based on his new found powers, as a demi-mutated volatile. Under the sun, he will receive a massive weakpoint due to him being half volatile . But at night or out of the sunlight or UV light, he awakens his new found powers. Mainly, the powers of the new special infected. This also gives him the option to consume them in order to upgrade his ability or their abilities to become his own.
    2. Night Runners - after he was rescued by an old couple, they told hm about the new safehaven on Earth known as New Villador. When Kyle asked about what happened to Harran, they were surprised that it has been 25 years sinve the first outbreak. Everything comes clear when they told him everything. It seemed that Kyle Crane was in a comatose state for the past 25 years. Because of this encounter, they were in a verge of being outrun by the new volatiles that seemed like virals, they are being called as Night Hunters. The old woman was torn into pieces, causing the old man to her rescue but fails. This made Kyle Crane bursts in a fit of rage, unlocking his volatile state, the same aspect of Aiden and Waltz, but his is similar to the full transformation of Waltz as a half volatile, causing destruction against the Night Hunters. After that, the sun rises and reverts hum back to his old self again, and travels lightly in dark places or caves so that he can run faster with his half volatile state, to the New Villador. He is welcomed by one of the Night Runners, and consults him to use an inhibitor. When he asoed about suppressant, he was laughed at since it has been decades since they all ceased to exist due to the new mutation. As soon as he took one of the inhibitors, it caused a side effect into him, having him forcefully turn into a volatile. He is soon hunted by the Night Runners but desperately escaped on the sewers where he recovers and seemingly found his way to the Bazaar, where he is greeted by the new leader, Kinai.
    3. Reparation - he introduces himself as Kyle Crane and the bar owner scoffs at him. Kinai is also a Night Runner and also a Pilgrim. He actually knows a man thesame name as Kyle but he don't know who he really is since he was still young back then. When he was informed about the new safehaven city ran by Night Runners, he went in as one of the night guardians of the city, giving him a feat and hailed as a shadow leader of the Bazaar. He got bummed because the tasks are really hard, concerning about fixing windmills, an old sewage, and the broken dam. Kyle is up for the task, and finished these insane tasks that gave him more upgrades to his abilitiew, giving him his old kick back to his senses. Kinai welcomes him like a brother, and during their celebration, the night runner who has seen Kyle's face came upon the party, turning out to be Kinai's elder brother, Ricco. Kyle is captured.
    4. The Truth - Kyle is taken to an abandoned building only known or reffered to as the Dome, and seemed to be infested with volatiles. Ricco ran a test of Kyle's abilities and have him fight for his life. After defeating countless of specials, Ricco deemed him worthy enough to be tasked on a very dangerous mission in order to gain his and the night runners' trust for good.
    5. Drowned - Ricco tasks Kyle to take down a new nest known only as Drowned. These are specials that lives on the chemically mutated waters on the Flooded Area. There are 6 buildings infected of them, and 3 sewage tunnels infested of them. The task is simple, destroy the nests and gain thei utmost trust, even hiding the fact he resembles a volatile when inject with an inhibitor. This just means he is more of a weapon than a human or viral. And so, Kyle managed to do the insanely dangerous tasks and gains the trust of Ricco who just contacted of Spike, about Kyle Crane. Turns out that Ricco knew all along who Kyle Crane was because he was one of the kids of the Old Bazaar from Harran, who knows Crane as the hero of Harran and a respected Night Runner. The only thing is, Crane's appearance never changed one bit.
    6. Remnants - Spike was about to meet Kyle Crane but he contacts Ricco 3 nights later, telling him that he is being hunted by the Remnants, the new renegade grouo causing mayhem within the city. Kyle went onto his rescue, only to save him using his volatile form. Spike was mad and even scared of him. Eventually, he accepted it and asks Kype what happened to him, and was replied about being awakened in a volatile nest. After killing a volatile woman known as the Mother, he went black out and next thing he knows is the nest he awakened from. Spike is still grateful that he survived but then, Ricco informs the night runners about an ambush of the Remnants. During the battle, it turns out that Ricco was the spy and the main leader of te Remnants, as he kills his brother Kinai. Kyle is captured and has nothing to do since if he transforms now, he will be deemed as a volatile than a human.
    7. Choice:
    A. Become Human - transform into a volatile to save Spike and the night runners. This will be lcome influential that new characters will be known in the game, including GRE spies, the United Nations spies, and other tasks concerning the possibility of getting fame as the hero of New Villador.
    B. Become A Hunter - transform and kill Ricco and the remnants. With this, Spike will lose trust of Kyle Crane and will be hunted down as a Daywalker, a volatile that can walk under the sun. There are far less missions but very dangerous. The is also a possibility that Spike will forgive Kyle Crane and him leaving the city for good.
    C. Become A Monster - do nothing and be captured by Ricco, to cover up your secret. Ricco will order his men to kill the night runners, but they wipl escape with Spike's help but he will lose his eye in the process. Kyle Crane is now living inside the Dome as a Champion. After so many battles in the Dome, he later soon to change as a new powrful volatile. After one of the breaches led by Spike with the night runners, they will breakfree the Kyle's collar and take down Ricco and his men. Also, Spike will meet his end from Kyle's grasps. After regining his consciousness, Kyle becomes broken and leaves the city in ruins and evactuation is eminent because of virals breaching the city in large swarms.

The only thing that fails, in my opinion, is the fact that you can betray any group, PK or Survivors and they will not agro you during the open world and you can still use their bases to sleep or buy things. It's stupid. I betrayed Matt and was able to enter the ship like nothing happened.
Hope they do something more imersive about this in the future.
But, i played the game in February (hated it, huge fan on DL1 and The Following) and i've decided to try DL2 again a week ago and jesus, the game is so much better atm. I believe it will improve even more.

Given how choices didn't really matter too much, this would be really nice to see. It would be a perfect opportunity to give us a chance to not only see our choices post-campaign but for us to live with those choices in that post-campaign. I'm scared they'll do a pre-ending DLC to keep those choices contained in the campaign. But I guess we'll see. Wouldn't hurt to play as Lawan though!

Very good way to describe the story. There is so much to work with here to create something really juicy and engaging but what Techland did was fumble the story HARD.
The worst of the writing was when Aiden unmasks the assassin and sees *gasp* the assassin is a woman! Like what the hell was that?
The writers really couldn’t think of anything else to stop Aiden from blindly killing her?
      Nothing?
Not the marks on her wrist that indicate she used to be Waltz’s experiment?

@@ampersandyyy Its small things like that, and then its the inexplicable reactions from Aiden either being randomly angry or otherwise deeply upset for seemingly erroneous reasons. They wrote Aiden so poorly, its like he is emotionally stunted and immature to an absurd degree. Then there is his whole reason for hunting down waltz, like what waltz tells him is such a critical character building thing, but how on earth did he end up forgetting ALL of that, that seems a bit absurd tbh. And then the whole "we were kids!" lines, like fucking hell, its a global apocalypse and some how the idea that experiments on children due to their immune systems being more plyable is somehow the most important thing to bitch about. Even someone with a rudimentary understanding of biology could understand why that was necessary. Hes just incomprehensibly whiney and it doesn't suite his feats of strength and ability.
And then this near extreme reaction to trying to find his sister, it makes no sense, sure hes waited a long time but he doesn't even know if she's alive. He should of been calmer and more collected. Especially considering hes a pilgrim and you need a shit ton of mental fortitude to make the Journey he has. And then there is Lawan, dear lord, like they had to write in a "strong independent woman" and make her his blatant love interest with the most frustrating and annoying personality on the planet. More over its weak to make her the only capable woman in the game as well lol. Sophie doesn't count, shes just power hungry and then gets everyone to do everything for her you never see her fight or anything lmao and then there is the most unnecessary death in the history of video game writing, Veronika Ryan. She didn't need to die at all, and she was a freaking high level GRE doctor, she would be critical to finding a cure and they write her death in and not only that, do it in a massively ridiculous way for shock factor urghhh.
Then there is the factions and then how this mess all started, good god, the general...how did he even command forces without having his head blown off for sheer incompetence? Ridiculously bad writing.

      1) the common are jealous over Pilgrim's survivability

      3) we have a suspicion of something different or unknown
We don't know the Pilgrim could work as spy to other hostile or they are being infected to bring disease.

After playing the game. I can safely say that there is a noticeable shift after the vnc tower missions in terms of writing, the way story missions are constructed. Post vnc tower felt like the original dying light while pre vnc felt like something else. It is also noticeable that they way the story works does not make much sense. I mean as bad as Dying Light 1 in terms of story telling, it felt like a Dead Island game, sprinkled with parkour. Dying Light 2 felt like Far Cry: New Dawn with zombies.
I am very sure early in development they wanted to make something like Renegades vs PK vs survivors. This is apparent when upon entering the Renegades HQ, they showed us children playing, basically showing that maybe the Renegades aren't so bad after all. Then again they were full of Renegades psychos within the game which doesn't make sense other than Waltz took control of them.
Not to mention the continuos Book searching 1- 10 and zombies killing. I don't remember much memorable place in Dying 2 eventhough they tried to implement it. Dead Island did it better for me tbh. Overall, other than the better parkour which is also debatable, even combat is significantly worse than Dead Island. Techlands seem to revert backwards. Here's hopinh Dying Light 3 will do better

    Spoilers:
Am I the only one who really finds all endings to be really bad?
Like all that work to save Mia just for her to die anyway, and Aiden leaving with Hakkon or Lawan? Throughout the entire story I really didn't care about anyone but Mia. I didn't care with whom I sided as long as I can get to Mia. She dies anyways so what's the point? DY2 failed to get me emotionally attached to any character other than Mia since she is the main reason why Aiden is doing all of this to begin with. Even with all that, they ruined the "Brother/Sister" when she turned out to be not really our sister and she is Waltz daughter???? Bruh....what a HUGE disappointment.
I thought to myself, maybe Waltz was trying to make more advanced and powerful humans that can withstand the virus and become almost supernatural in a way that the infected are no longer a threat.
It would be a lot more stratifying if Mia herself had some sort of immunity that made us reach to the cure and save everyone, but no the city will either get controlled by 1 of the 3 factions each with their own flaws or get fully destroyed .
I am disappointed but I have to say that the coolest moment in the game was when Aiden turned for the first time. It got boring and repetitive after the 4th time though . I wish this type of gameplay was on focused more.

They were all so unlikable and none of them made any good points to me. Just completed a second playthrough. For me, siding with the PKs never made sense because you don't actually really ever see them help anyone. All of the rank and file you interact with basically fail their missions and leave Aiden to pick up the slack, abandon civilians e.g. pulling back from St. Paul Island against the wishes of townsfolk, Matt isn't trustworthy (especially for those who collected the notes related to his backstory), and overall they're a faction who only cares about control and can't even do that correctly as they're slowly losing ground to the Renegades throughout the game. I totally understand and even agree with most of the complaints about the Bazaarians especially characters like Barney, but at least their stated goal is to help common folk.

I'm secretly hoping that Techland will be smart and give us quasi a second game like the following dubbed "Beyond the Walls". But since I found out that Dying Light 2 is by far not the game we all expected because it's a different team working on it than the one from Dying Light, I fear well just get a slew of thin dlcs.

I think volatiles got a massive buff in this game I used to be able to go to a volatile nest in daytime and clear it easy but now I can barley take 1 volatile on nevermind a horde so I think I’ll be stuck being unable to clear the gre hospitals

Use upgraded uv bars. Start off by taking on the GRE monsters at night. Find a windmill nearby the gre monster sites and unlock that so you have a place to go to after killing them. I got so many inhibitors before actually hitting the gre hospitals with upgraded weapons, the uv bars, grenades and molotovs even. Definitely helps when going into the hospitals then.

honestly, i played both games and the second game was just...
it just didn't have that little "something" that dying light one had. i played dying light 1 trough and trough 100% every single side/main quest tested all the weapons and found all the easter eggs got trough the game on every difficulty even did a no death challenge with thousands of hours in the game
dying light 2 got me bored in around 10-15 hours

Everyone near the end of the game: Fuck PKs.

I feel that by jumping from the events in Harran to the post-apocalypse they've sort of painted themselves into a corner. It's like post-apocalyptic zombie films, for me they've skipped the more interesting part of the story, the outbreak and the attempts by the government, military and scientific community to fight back during the slow collapse of society. They could get a whole series of games out of telling that story but instead they've jumped to a setting we've seen a million times before.

They made 'Peacekeepers' the bad guy if you choose their path, and good guys if you choose the Bazar. But with that path though, the peacekeepers are no longer the one controlling the peace.

In old villedor I gave the watertower to the PKs because I hated the survivors for the way they treated Aiden. But when I reached the central loop then I gave everything to the survivors there because I hated Jack Matt and thought that the butcher wasn’t the real enemy

You know. I played through the entire game and not once have I ever heard someone call it New Paris. They always called the city Villedor. Villador? And I get why the people in the first area call it that, since that area is Old Villador. But people in the city area also called it Villedor. It’s weird because even watching videos of it, they never call it New Paris. It wasn’t until about 4 weeks ago when I heard the city be called New Paris. Am I crazy?

While I enjoyed DL2 I have to say I hate one of the endings and some of the choices.
For example if you give the tower to Jack Matt and the PKs, despite having the ability to warn Jack Matt and tell him to use the broadcast system to warn the survivors of the incoming missile strike, Aiden doesn’t, so the Bazzar gets fucked up. Yet if you choose the Survivors Aiden will warn them. This is super annoying because despite being at odds at times the PKs do care about the well being of the people in the city. Not to mention they also go the Bazaar themselves.
The PK ending is also out of left field. While the PKs are authoritarian in the military sense, they care about the people in the city. The send out squads to help survivors, kill infected, protect settlements, etc. Hell many of them are ex-soldiers who turned on the military when they, the military, wanted to kill a whole bunch of civilians. By all accounts the PKs truly do care about the city and it’s people. They are strict, yes, but not overly so.
BUT in the ending they go full regime. You steal water? Whole family, dead. Food? Dead. Considering they control the city water and food shouldn’t be an issue. Yet when they didn’t control it the penalty for stealing was losing a hand. Brutal? Yes, but many steps better than killing an entire family.
So the PKs have been shown to be brutal and authoritarian, but also caring and considerate. But their ending just throws all the stuff away and makes em turbo assholes. It’s off putting and blind siding. Feels more like a punishment for choosing them than an actual ending. “Oh, you liked the PKs? Well you sided with ultra dickheads, gotcha!”
