You’re absolutely right about featured locations. I hate being forced into deck choices so I typically just put the game down when there are featured locations.
they only last for a few days... I think the pros of encouraging some new deck building out way the cons of those few days feeling pretty same-y. Maybe they should reduce the number of days they are featured for as a decent compromise? Or maybe there's a separate queue for ranked that doesn't have the feature location odds skewed.
Fun comic fact about Sauron: He picked that name, in-universe, not because he's a dinosaur but because he's a huge Lord of the Rings fan. That is not a joke.
Its impressive the amount of variety that marvel snap provides I mean, hearthstone first year had at most 10 different decks with almost the same ends and game plan But marvel snap has at least 30 variety of decks and archetypes where you can play in 30 different ways
keep in mind that unlike HS not everyone has all the cards in snap, nor the ability to craft the card they want for the deck they want to tryout, so its harder for the meta to converge to specific decks
I love your energy, especially your laugh and reactions to funny moments. Had a rough day, this put a smile on my face and was a great distraction. Thank you 😊
Personally featured locations are great. Maybe you end up seeing the same or similar decks after a while but it's also different from the same meta hugging decks you usually see/go against so it's a bit of variety in opponents.
I think this was the point he was trying to make when he was talking about what he thought locations were going to be originally but I think because they stay for so long people basically play into it and it ends up being days of seeing X deck 50%+ of the time
I think featured locations are fun when they make off meta decks stronger, alter of death sucks because it makes already meta decks even more prominent
My only issue with featured location is that it feels like they all make the hood/Nova/carnage package good. Except lamentis -1 that just made death insane
I think you're totally right about locations. The games has a very diverse library of cards comprising many different strategies and for the most part those strategies are all viable. The game is balanced around locations not benefitting either player or strategy in-particular because they are random and vary greatly. When a certain location is featured it feels like it takes what is normally a very diverse game and then makes it very homogenous by greatly benefitting a certain strategy. Maybe they could award extra xp or some currency for the use of a certain featured card every once in a while or make a certain card avaliable to all players to try out for a bit. It might achieve a similar effect of players getting an addition incentive to expirement without having games that just feel like if you don't go all in on whatever is being pushed you will have a bad time.
I think it would also help if new locations weren't "featured" for two days. That's just too long to skew the environment that much imo. It also means that 3 days out of the week are on featured locations, or in other words almost literally half the time. I think it's a fun mechanic but they tend to overstay their welcome.
Actually Galactus works on both Altar of Death and Death's Domain if an additional card is present and is played before the Galactus since it gets destroyed. But anywhere else it stops Galactus' trigger.
In regards of the featured location, if it was only for a day it would be fine, but it overextended its welcome, furthermore considering we have hot location's sunday. I also find it extremely annoying for the same reason that after a couple hours I just want to play another deck but it would be not only inefficient it just discourages playing anything but the most efficient expecting that location to pop on any game. I've faced more self sacrificing decks in the last few days than anything else, or decks that were forced to play something like Storm, Rhino, or Armor to straight up block that location.
Echoing what others have said in the comments I feel that reducing the chance of the featured location appearing and reducing the time the featured location is featured would both be great changes
just got sauron in the shop, not gonna buy him because i’m saving for thanos but it’s super cool to see the new card when it comes out, glad it wasn’t shanna lol.
Think 24 hours is the sweet spot for featured locations. Would probably be too much technical work, but maybe have a different queue for people who want to play on the featured location, and another for those who want the normal location pool. Or maybe just run location destroyers.
8:25 “I don’t know why they’re different” Well, I’m here to explain although take it with a grain of salt because it’s more a hypothesis rather than fact. Maybe due to altar of death being a new location they made it with a different code than Death’s domain and not just copied and pasted it. But due to not doing that it, perhaps death’s domain reads a card that gets revealed there as “played” whereas death’s domain doesn’t. But, that’s just a small theory of mine so…idk
That galactus happened to me before 😂 I was so mad. I had the win and it was turn 4. So I had plays after it as well and whiffed so hard after snapping 🤣
Maybe it's just my lower ranks, but I don't find featured locations are that much of an issue. I already tend to play one deck at a time for a couple days before swapping around, it just prompts me to change to a slightly altered one with cards that I don't put in otherwise.
I partially disagree with you on the locations. They can be a hit or miss but this particular location has been the most fun I have had in the game since launch. I think it all comes down to play style and deck preference. Right now my favorite decks are Knull based and have been for the past few weeks so this elevates that experience for me. However it does suck for other decks. There have been many locations I don't enjoy but honestly it's not that bad.
Sauron: He could cure cancer, but instead he makes Dinos P.s. a thought occured to me again when I was watching these games.. Cerebro Prime (7-5-3); Maximus, Ebony Maw, Vision, Wolfsbane, Gamora are all 7, and Taskmaster could very often be, too, 🤔 I would almost think about Silver Surfer, Mister Negative, and run the new buffed Nakia, to make your Doctor Doom 7, and if you got real lucky, a 7 power Blue Marvel. Even if not, he works well at each of the 7-5-3 breakpoints, bringing up Nakia, too. Maybe Magik and Onslaught?? 🧐
You know your video about a zero deck from before the game was globally out was what got me hyped for the game. I started at launch, have pretty much played everyday, bought each season pass, and bought the sunspot bundle and I can still can’t make the deck. And now, right when I’m so close to it, they release Sauron, which I have no chance of getting for 3-4 months.
How have you not been able to build a deck that you saw pre launch? If it was a pre launch deck then it couldn’t of had any pool 4/5 cars that were necessary and it’s been long enough that every pool 3 card would have cycled through your shop so you would have been a able to snag all the ones you needed.
@@d.b.scoville because I have 11 series 3 cards I haven’t gotten and two of them are red skull and zero. I spent my tokens on thanos, which ended up being a mistake. Had I saved my tokens however, then I’d be on the other side of the fence where I wouldn’t be able to try thanos for 3-4 months. My point is that it takes a comically long amount of time to get cards so I’m not able to try all the deck ideas I have.
There's two types of hot locations to me. The ones that are cool without being too warping like Machineworld and the ones that completely warp the game around them like Altar of Death where its actively detrimental not to play one of the two decks that benefit most from it.
I enjoy Featured Locations for the most part, but this one is just sooo impactful you have to play Altar meta or a counter to it to really succeed in it. I had fun playing Deadpool for once, but I also agree it should pass on. Maybe if it was just 24 hours, and not 48 hours. Maybe just better when new locations aren't super impactful
Twice when you did the She Hulk/Taskmaster play at the end, you chose to play the She Hulk in a lane that reduced her power, which meant that TM would copy the lower power. Is there a reason why you chose to do it like that instead of playing She Hulk in the lane that doesn't alter her power and copying that?
I can't vouch for the first time but the second time Cosmo was in the minus power location. If he played Taskmaster in the Cosmo location Cosmo would have prevented Taskmaster's on reveal affect leaving Regis with a 0 power Taskmaster so he had to play She-Hulk there instead
Vision and She-Hulk are good. Enchantress is not as good. There is no time to play a 4-cost with minimal upside, especially as a post-hoc effect when you need to be dumping power on turn 5 and 6. Sauron also already solves the same problems. If you had a Zabu list, Enchantress could perhaps be a consideration, but Zabu and Sauron clash in curve and effect. Vision's power flexibility after Shuri is an A+ play. She-Hulk lets you skip turn 5 for favorable priority into turn 6 to play her and a 5-cost card together.
Huh, that’s actually really neat, and proof I have much more to learn about deckbuilding in snap! (Even if I’m still working towards series 4 and only at 3. Or wherever 1600 is in terms of pool)
On the second game why your red skull didn't get destroyed is because you didn't play the card on the death domain. Also death domain and altar of death works the same except altar of death give +2 energy next turn (which is so much) hope they nerf the location soon enough
Normally featured locations are not that bad. Altar tho makes decks that can abuse it too much lead. Usually you can ignore the featured location if you want to play normally, but this week i feel like I play "destroy/ramp" or I'm losing 40% of games.
That won't work because Sauron silences all affects on Ongoing cards. That is why Regis can play Ebony Maw after Turn 3 even though that affect is not part of Ebony Maw's Ongoing ability. It was a good idea though
I like Featured Domains and I think Altar of Death is neat. Though, as context, I really only switched out one card from my Sentry deck (added Electro) so I wasn't really forced to switch decks. Also I'm in the 50's which isn't not competitive but also isn't high enough that you're only seeing the meta decks. I think that changes my experiences a bit. Also, as people mentioned, Altar and Death's Domain work the same other than Altar giving energy. Both kill everything that is played but doesn't destroy anything that is moved/added. I think that opponent just got confused and thought it was the location that destroys everything that moves there.
I feel like featured and hot locations are great but last too long. They should like, gradually make them happen less and less over the course of their featuring, or just make it so that once you see it three times you have the option to deactivate it and just be in a separate matchmaking pool in which you don't have the featured location

the galactus dude literally bought galactus, paid for a variant of him, created a whole deck surrounding him, and yet he does not know that his on reveal doesn't work when there are any cards at that location at all (both revealed and unrevealed)
Sauron removes his On Reveal text too, much like it removes Ebony Maw's play limitation text. It removes all abilities from Ongoing cards, not just Ongoing abilities.
