    Without doubt, my favourite channel on UA-cam now. Better than anything else. Real blokes doing real work. Proper skills, and techniques that will probably be lost over time. Hats off, Steve.

      @@KMCZingst it is real and there is more to it than just chopping out rust and putting patches on as you say..I know all about cars and when you are working on unibody construction cutting and welding you better know what you are doing there is more to it than you think 🤔

      why would it get lost, its even getting better. those shit cars are now rusty, not in 1977 when they were released. what they restored in the 70s what was built in the 40s was completely different and much easier. So this is a craft that is envolving not disappearing.

      they didnt use much CAD when this car was produced, well maybe there was. I think they started using that kind of software in the late 1970s

    Great work! I tell ya, 25 years in the industry and at 50 I need hearing aids, why? Because I was to stupid to use ear protection!! Now I wear it for EVERYTHING, even a battery chainsaw which is pretty quiet, trying to save what little I have left. Let my failure b a lesson to ALL,

    One arch repair, condensed to 30mins and yet to be finish welded, filed and finished. A small percentage of what this car needs and why so many hours go into a restoration. I did my apprenticeship under a proper old school panel beater and I like to pick apart these sorts of videos but all I can say is, love your work👌

    Again Steve an excellent case of your skill in fabrication, inner and outer wheel arc repairs are my favourite job , not , I wear glasses also and find I'm always knocking them when I'm looking in and out if that makes sense . It's amazing that you share your work with us ... Thanks again for your amazing contents......

    I was just reading the comments on how another person like me says that this is there favorite channel too and I commented on it..I know first hand this is very hard work but very rewarding because you can see what you are doing you guys have given many cars a second life again there isn't many people who can do what you all do because when others just patch up a little they don't Last long but when you guys fix them they are good for another lifetime and maybe longer I should say and that is a beautiful thing to restore something that can Last for generations with proper care...thanks so much for the upload and thanks to you guys I'm going to be able to restore my jaguar and for that I can't thank you enough..

    Loving the old school skills on display. Almost hypnotic with the gentle music playing in the background.
    Dare I say this craftsmanship will be a dying art in the future? I would encourage my three year old to be an engineer or to do something like this because by the time he’s older he will command good money for his services.
    That’s if AI hasn’t taken over by then.😂

      Sadly, it's a throw away society now and skills like this is a dying art, most places just replace parts with new or scrap if they can't nowadays.
      The only positive is those with the skills are more in demand as less learn.

      @@DStead2239 I agree totally. I own two trucks and do as much work on them as possible to keep costs down.
      I’ve always been mechanically minded since doing a YTS in the early 90s.
      But like you say. People just buy new stuff instead of fixing things.

      @@broadsworddannyboy655 Same here. My old man had an engineering shop building race cars and engines, his mate who raced cars bartered work where they kept eachothers stuff pristine. I did my apprenticeship doing panel/paint with the old mans mate and also worked for the olds as a mechanic/engineer. After years on the tools I moved onto do automotive upholstery lol. Now I don't even work on cars for a living, I now get more pleasure and work done on my own stuff than ever and only need a shop for the dyno, but I know if I need I have trades I can always fall back on..

    Just love this stuff, life is real here not like TV repair shops. My only comment is I would rather have a real workshop soundtrack in place of this crap elevator music, but as I do I can always turn the sound off. Thanks for something to watch, keep the videos coming.

    Guys, sorry to be annoying but you have missed the swage line on the rear wheel arch, its the area where the plastic side trim fits with a 5mm plastic nut inside the wheel arch. Other than that not a bad job. 👍🏻

      Yes it was , I don’t understand why some people get upset by a lap joint. Every car from new is covered in them. The only down side to a lap joint is that they can trap water if not treated after it’s done. There are other arguments but iv been doing this for 25+ years and never had a problem as have many other car restorers. They are used when access isn’t available unless making more work or cutting more good metal out unnecessary. :)

    Question: any reason why those inner arch pieces weren’t butt welded together? You seemed to have plated over the hole? Genuinely curious as you seem to butt weld anything else. Lovely work btw

      Rear the subtitles. It's says this inner arch peice will be addressed in a later video when we get the car on the ramp like all the rest of the sections underneath.

    Love the fabrication and precision in the work. I just can't understand why you dont fabricate the inner arch first while you have good access to it (especially at the front of the arch? It would have been easy to gringd and treat the welds on both sides and plenty of room to work at. Instead you make the outer arch first and then fill in the inner bits.
    It also seems like most of the arch is rusted i the spot welds and there is rust in between the whole arch....

    you know i wish i never got rid of my e38 bmw it was excellent with no rust on it at all it had bbs alloys lowered on bc racing coilovers and drove like a dream , but costs just weighed me up so sold it for 1000 less .....:o(

    I love it 2023 man fly on jet packs driverless cars . but we still need card board and corn flake boxes to make templates ,ready for welding it will never change .

    BMW invest years of reserch and milions creating a press , steve from YCR knocks one up in a couple of hours for $3.50 worth of steel amazing work fellers

    how much would you guys charge for welding on a mk1 mx5 (i know its hard to quote as there could be hidden rust) but whats the average and worst case scenario “cost”

      You mean impossible to quote..
      You need to say what needs repair and where, if you have a repair section or if it needs to be made, extent of repair, soo so many variables..
      One would need to see for themselves..

    I think the way you make up to individual pieces and join them all up like a jig saw is great. It saves £££ on original panels but is it not a lot more time consuming?

      Our channel isn't about £££ it's about fabrication. Anyone can buy a panel and bolt or weld it in place. It's about learning how metal bends and applying that to the bit of rust that you can't buy a panel for. Becides where's the fun in not making it? :)

    Have been watching your channel for a while now. Really like the work that goes into patching up and shaping the panels. But always leaves me wondering about longevity. You cut the rust out, patch it up, but rust can be rooted deeper than your cut, even in the healthy part of the metal it just not visible with the bare eye. Why is there no sandblasting involved in the process ?

      We are not exspensive and yes they all come together quite quickly, this bmw will be about 4 month work on and off it as me and Ryan work on three projects each and we also both have full times jobs, the opel manta I'm working on will take about 2 months :)

      @@helmutstrap YCR is a full time business as a restotarion company. YCR the youtube channel is done after Ryan finishes work at another job and my films is done when I finish a days work restoring the other cars that aren't on youtube :)
