I can only imagine how long this has taken so far, with many many hours of work still to go. I doubt Mat had the slightest clue how far gone this was. Amazing work guys.
Those who’ve never cut sheet steel or tried to get a part to conform to metal surrounding it won’t quite appreciate what’s been accomplished in this episode. I found the metal archeology, re manufacturing and final assembly in situ of that left side front jacking point in my top few, ever, challenges to watch being solved. Honestly, kudos, merely decoding how the original rusty, cut-out lump was formed was a helluva task in three dimensions. I gave a cheer when you finally offered it back up. Consider us your cheering audience as you executed a complex series of moves in a BMX stunt or absolutely planted the finale to a floor routine in gymnastics. Because this is art at a high level. Thank you 😎👍🙏⏳
Wow! The lengths you go to duplicate the complicated construction of the 'jacking points' is outstanding! A part of the car that is always taken for granted (also by me 😳) but takes an enormous amount of work apparently Great job again!
As a E12 owner (which is in essence the same platform as the E24) i can tell you that you did a lot of work repairing a piece which isn't a jacking point at all. The work is done nice and correct, but the square box at the front isn't a jacking point, and because this square box is often misused as a jacking point is the reason it starts rusting away. The real jacking point is situated 20cm backwards under the sill, which is rotten away also on this E24. Ofcourse i had the same misery on my E12, and did a repair on that section with deleting the square box. Love your channel by the way, keep on doing what you do now.
@@GT380man yes, these points are "transport brackets" and used on the assembly line in the factory. All older bmw's have them. If you start working on the actual jacking points you'll see reinforcement brackets in the sill.
BMW's construction here of multiple sheets of metal to strengthen the chassis always amazes me from a rust point of view. I would quote Jeremy Clarckson's "what would possibly go wrong?!' A nightmare to duplicate.
Ryan you are my hero buddy. Man I love this channel I can't say enough about it and still not scratch the surface of how much I love it and so grateful to get to watch the work of true geniuses..I need to strip my jaguar and make a jig for a rotisserie in order to fix it really well because it's just ever bit as rotted out as this BMW..thanks for the upload hope you guys have a wonderful amazing good week. That new jacking stand you made is incredible it belongs in a museum like that chassis rail you made Ryan.
It’s great to see the level of work and detail going into the repairs. The vision you must have to able to see how the repairs need to be made. Loving watching it come back to life.
Frankly, I much prefer this BMW rebuild channel right now, having shifted, halfway through MK2. Seems to me that this where the real work is and I have affection for the demeanor of gifted workaholic welder, fabricator expert at Yorkshire Car Restoration!
Mat’s channel quality is awesome too, but he’s really gonna have to push the boat out to do justice to this one by the time you’re finished 😀 great work guys, as always 👍👍👍
So glad I found this channel. Working on the exact same spot on my E24. Found the panels you made. They are manufactured by Valcasgarage. Saved me a lot of time as I don’t have the same skills as you guys 😂.
It is heartening to see that this country of ours still has truly excellent and skilled engineers and fabricators. Pity that young people shy away from learning these vital skills. Brilliant to watch you guy's.
Thank you for this fabrication channel. it's real therapy. You make it look so easy. Apart from your skill, the difference between us is your patience and detail. First class content, thank you.
WoW! At the beginning of most of your videos I say to myself “WHY”? but by the end it all becomes clear, congratulations on your meticulously earned skills, fabulous work, one of my favourite channels 👏👏👏
Your work is fantastic, i like seeing the use of templates being made before cutting any metal, great sense of humar too, i look forward to the next one 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I thought my e28 was bad when I did it! This 24 is a basket case. Good to see you doing it properly. The only thing I would say is Mat will not be running a 220bhp engine in it so while your at it I would reinforce as well as repair. I triple skinned where the front jacking point are & then tied them into the chassis rails with box section. I triple skinned the rear axle mounts as well as my s38b36 M5 engine will be fitted with a turbo. Love your work.
Hi guys, it's such a pleasure to see your craftmans skills. Just amazing, how you turn this bucket of rust into the adorable car it was before. Lucky that Mat has sold the car to you. Best wishes from Germany
You are defo an artist at work Ryan buddy...the level of your work and craft is truly amazing...I can't wait to see this epic restoration complete but i want to enjoy it in the meantime watching professionals at work...Keep up the great work guys!!!...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Incredible! I think Mat would be the first one to say he couldn’t do what you do . Your skills are awesome 👏. How you are ever going to rebuild all the components, after building half a new body is going to be extremely interesting to watch 👍
I could quite literally watch you all day just cutting shapes out of cars and making them again. Incredible skills keep up the good work I’m enjoying these videos 🤘🏻
I almost wish I had a rusty car so you could fix it. I never thought I would be looking forward to a video on metal fabrication and welding but here we are, I love watching this. I have no interest in TV shows, but I could watch this for hours. You are very clever chaps and thanks for the videos. Also if you could tell me what the music tracks are, I would like to get hold of that.
So glad I came across this from Mat. Gained a new sub, and so helpful with my project. Just an FYI. When you upload a video, you can 'add card' which allows a hot link to appear in the top right corner. This can be your direct link for any video you reference. Saves putting in description, and gives people immediate access to go watch.
Absolutely loving this build. Your work is astounding, and very relaxing to watch. See you in the next video, and don't forget, we need to see the Mk 1 Escort.
Another bloody good bit of fabrication. I was worried before the car went on the roast chicken machine that that area wasn't actually strong enough to hold it up on the axle stands.
It would be great to see a real time stopwatch somewhere so that we can fully comprehend how many many hours it’s takes. Great job, hope May doesn’t rag this one around ‘the ring’ it will belong in a showroom.
Continue to be absolutely blown away by the level of skill and expertise that you demonstrate in all of your videos so glad I’ve subscribed to your channel thoroughly entertaining
I am really impressed by this and your work to date. It would be interesting to see the count of person hours going into this restoration. Also interested in whether you have choices - so no other donor cars that could provide these parts?? I have been looking at older BMW's and it looks like you need to be really careful of the state of the bodywork
I certainly trust your professional excellence, and I doubt my judgement, but was there a reason why you didn’t completely strip it and chemical dip it? Or were you fearful you wouldn’t have any car left to repair? 😆👍. Great work guys 😎
Couple things I have learned from watching this process, you can't cut corners and just weld in one piece of metal, and you need to find someone so good at metal work they can cut it with an ordinary pair of scissors!!
Great video 👍 Top banana on the show and tell on how you go about the repair.Tip of the day use the scree on handle when using the wire wheel to remove underseal etc.
Thanks for watching! Please do hit that like button if you did enjoy the video!
"All you uncover is misery" , that would look good on a tshirt - certainly seems to be the theme of this build - wonderful work as ever
Jacking point area now looks like when it came out of the factory. Brilliant.
Thanks Steve!
Great to see young people keeping these skills alive, well done ! inspiring the next generation 👍👍
Thank you very much!
I can only imagine how long this has taken so far, with many many hours of work still to go. I doubt Mat had the slightest clue how far gone this was. Amazing work guys.
I think he absolutely knew how far gone it was, that's why he handed it over to the experts at YCR
@@135Ops its probably the least shite car he has ever purchased
I don't think the cost is compensated by the value. He could better have scrapped it and sell it for parts.
Every video I wonder how this car hasn’t been send to the scrapyard yet, awesome job guys!

I too AssUMed it was the jacking point.

You certainly are a very skilled man.
Must be very rewarding to rebuild and restore classic cars the way you do.
I hope they pay you well!
I was instantly addicted to this build! Your skill level is unsurpassed. Your craftsmanship is truly amazing !
The level of skill and talent involved in this fabrication work is unreal. Amazing work guys!
I don't get it, I'm watching thinking it looks so bad then all of a sudden its perfect, love watching craftsmen at work this is unreal, well done lad.
Thanks so much!
Nothing quite like watching a professional at work, good work mate! :)
Great to see your skill of manufacturing body pieces and then restoring the area back to perfection.
Pretty much invisible repairs by the time you had finished. Very satisfying to see the results. Thank you once again.
Too many metal work channels don't take safety seriously enough in my opinion, so glad to see expert usage of safety squints at 27:48! 😂😜

How many people could do this in the whole world…. Bet there’s not many! Amazing talent!
Amazing to watch you reconstruct that rusty multi layered part. A real master craftsman. It must be an incredibly satisfying job!
The amount of time and money that is being put into this pile of rust is mind boggling. This project is pure insanity.
