I had a captive bred female for 13 years that was an adult when I got her. Incredibly friendly behavior towards humans which I never expected from a reptile. Awesome pet.
That species is mostly wild caught largely because it’s cheaper to catch and import them than it is to breed them. Elevages Lisard in Quebec breeds a variety of species.
it's so inhumane to catch a wild animal to haveas a pet. I only want to obtain pets by adopting from a shelter/rescue or from individuals trying to rehome the pet
i just received 2 for a rehome and they are pretty docile and chill very handle ready. but this 3rd one i received is very skittish but he is in a new home and ha to get used to me
I have an Egyptian that love tummy rubs and actually comes to me to be handled, you have to handle them from an early age. I don't know if was wild caught, farm raised or captive bred. I take solace in knowing that if it was still in the wild it probably would not survived this long. Uromastyx, have clutches of eggs from 12 to 20,, usually only one clutch a year. Most animals that lay large clucthes usually do so, because the survival rate in the wild is small, through predation. Look at your keeping yours as saving it from the wild.
Buying captive born is ideal but dont sweat the wild caught too much. Parents of the first captive born generations came from the wild afterall. Wild morality rate is rough so they will ultimately do better with you

Okay, thank you! I still didn’t know. Thats interesting
Keep it up with the handling. Your uro is only half the size it will grow to and they get more chill the bigger they get.

There are people who are captive breeding like Philip Lietz with Arids Only.
Oh interesting!! Good to know thanks
I shoot videos with tikis geckos and I was handling one of the baby uros they have and it was so cute and awesome , I do believe it was captive bred

Shed likely die much sooner in the wild, either slowly by parasites or infection or being eaten
