4:33 Start as a custom nobleman, have a son named Robin, become landless, die under mysterious circumstances, play as Robin, join the crusades and return with high levels of stress.
I love how the 5 year old starts off as 'the great' Like shit his birth must of been amazing if he's referred to as that before his actions that lead him to become great.
His mother had the least painless birth ever. In fact since then she has orgasms whenever a men just slightly touches her. Her milk can refresh and heal minor diseases. The boy itself could speak with 6 months and learned 3 foreign languages by the age of 1. With 3 years he finished his study and entered military service. With 4 he subdued his first opponent in battle and had his own realm by the age of 5.😊
I think in the very old, very original version of Robin Hood, he was just a peasant, but the Victorians didn't like how subversive he was as a character and rewrote him into a nobleman coming back from the third crusade.
It is interesting to play as Rollo of Normandy (867 start date), he sits as landless character in Kingdom of Denmark. despite the lack of a storyline, it was quite interesting to play for him. I think it would be fun to repeat history and conquer the English throne as a descendant of Rollo
In regards to Robin Hood, there several historical people who probably inspired the legends. Robin hood of Wakefield, Robert Hod of York, Roger Godbeard, and a few other historians have argued. Plus IMO I would put up Hereward and his folk legacy kind of merging with these stories. Also a lot of the early ballads don't have some of the more famous elements from later ballads, ie no maid marion, no robbing the rich to give to the poor and several of his companions, ala friar tuck and IIRC even king john and king richard aren't there. Still I do agree that playing as a Robin Hood would be fun.
Hereweard definitely is one of the largest inspirations for Robin Hood as he was supposed to be an Anglo-Saxon who lead a resistance against the Normans.
I'll be playing as Asen but instead of forming the 2nd Bulgarian Empire, I'll go backwards in time and re-form the Great Old Bulgaria. God I love the flexibility of adventurers.
My playthrough so far has been great, very rp heavy. I started as Andronikos Bryennios, the grandson of Anna Komene, who wrote the Alexiad detailing her father's reign. When he died, she tried to coup her brother and take the throne for herself. I've been living up to those ambitions. Almost immediately got hit with the 'fourth' crusade, Manuel died, and I've spent the last 30 years knitting the empire back together in its wake. Finally managed it, and Anna Komnene's great-grandson is the current Emperor. Would recommend the start.
idk if he is a playable character so you might have to make him but one i would highly recommend is duke Leopold of Austria also known as the virtuous he was also the duke of Syria i believe one of the crusader titles but here is the reason i recommend him, he is the guy he is he the man who kidnapped Richard the lion heart and crippled England by taking the kings ransom fyi Richard was an ahole who was hated by his fellow crusaders
@@Soul_Tomato he wasn't evil though lol Richard was the annoying ahole who made so many crusaders leave because they couldn't stand him lol also the ransom i believe was issued by the hre emperor Leopold only kidnapped him, it could be a good little play through would make a fun yt video tbh
A lot of people already mentioned Richard the Lionheart and his brother John Lackland, but i think their father, Henry II “Curtmantle” of England is also a really interesting character to play as in the new start date. You’re not in your prime anymore, and although you established the Plantagenets in England and across the Channel, your are estranged with your wife and both of your sons, the former in your dungeon the latter plotting to rebel against you, there was a play and a movie about him called The Lion in Winter. And Although Richard is the Lionheart, let the old lion roar one last time in his twilight, and put his house in order before he departs.
I had a weird end to my Anglo-Saxon exodus campaign. I had a character go from Wessex to Constantinople then to Cologne then settle in Moravia then almost become unlanded if I didn't conquer a county in Slovakia because the king's son of Great Moravia demanded me to return the land his father gave to me.
Personally, finding out the great great grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire Osman I is a playable unlanded character in the newest start date makes me look forward to playing as him. Kizil Boga and Hassan Sabbah will probably be my first playthroughs (edit: for this update)

Re: Robin Hood -- one of the likely historical sources for the inspiration of the character is a man called William of Cassingham, also known as Willikin of the Weald. He was a common man who fought during the First Baron's War (1215-1217); when Prince Louis of France invaded England, William raised a group of archers who fought as guerrilla fighters in the southeast of England and consistently disrupted French supply lines, killing "many thousands of Frenchmen" according to some stories. His actions were probably exaggerated in the telling, but he did play a critical role in hampering the French invasion and after the war the English monarch granted William a pension as reward for his services and named him "Warden of the Weald" (the area of SE England before industrialization was a thick old-growth forest called the Weald) and Sergeant of the Peace (which was something like the equivalent of being head of the Royal Military Police today) Would be a hell of a landless play through to try to form a warrior band and save your kingdom from an invasion with nothing but your own charisma and wits! Hahaha
For different possibly interesting HRE starts: Heinrich III „the Lion“, Barbarossa‘s best mate in younger years and bitterest rival in later, he‘s a Welf and has massive lands in northern Germany and Bavaria, possible interesting roleplaying campaign to depose the Hohenstaufens Another good one is Albrecht „the Rich“ von Habsburg, Count of Aargau. Yes, that Habsburg, but far from much power at that point, even from their future prime domain of Salzburg and Wien. My objective would probably be claiming those two and laying the foundations of Habsburg dominance early, aka claim Austria, become Emperor, try to make one of my descendants ruler of all Spain, that stuff And third one for a landless Adventurer in the Holy Land: Lalibela of the Zagwe dynasty, Ethiopian Christian camped in Jerusalem, Nephew of the King of Abyssinia. You could build a mercenary company to amass riches and come home laden with gold to kick your Nephew and his ilk out and lay the foundations for an Ethiopian Empire (he is the same age as Lalibela), or try and do the kushite ancestors proud and kick Saladin out of Egypt, or do whatever honestly. Go reclaim Spain for Christendom? Make a play for Bagdad? World’s your oyster.
What I hate about Richard's character is when I change his war helmet or completely remove it. there's a plume with his crest on it that you can't remove. even when changing face items.
Rum is lowkey tough if the 4th crusade fizzles which it did for me last night. I had to do some serious micro management to maintain my power lol. Still gotta finish the run off tonight though
A quick note about Sancho VII when you start as his father and if get an intrigue start you can murder a path to put him on the thrones of Castille & Leon creating a strong kingdom to take Hispania
He has A LOT of options. He can easily become landless, could then become a legitimist. He’s basically free to do whatever he wants. He could become emperor of Byzantium or the Latin Empire. Really the world is your oyster.
Andronikos Kommnenos - SIGMA.His cousin, Basileus Manuel, throughout his life tried to eliminate his sworn relative, even sent him to prison a couple of times, but Andronik always escaped from there. I think this cool guy could be used as a TV series. And he still seized power.
I think John of Ulster is a fun start, used to play him in CK2 but it's way more fun and easier to have him unite Ireland under independent Norman rule
Just one detail. Unless i misunderstood, you said king Afonso of Portugal expanded his lands from a county near the city of Lisbon. That is incorrect. Afonso became the count of Portucale which was in the north of modern day Portugal, and actually not that small (in ck3 they actually have that county but given its size they made it a duchy) which at the time was part of the Kingdom of Leon. He became the count after winning a battle against his mother, since he supported the independence of Portucale while hos mother didn't. He won and later declared hinself king of the Portuguese and after another battle Portugal was recognized as an independent kingdom. Then during the reconquista he turned to the south and thats when he reached Lisbon eventually
Fascinating to hear about all these interesting people, but I will forever and always be playing as landless custom characters in 769 now that that option exists, heh heh

I'm surprised you had no byzantine characters in a video about the new byzantine dlc. But in any case, what's a good byzantine character to play (new player)
Honestly most of the bookmark ones ARE the good ones to play. But you can always try one of the Doukas since they’re basically slotted as next in line for the throne at 1178 start
You can’t make courtiers or anyone else landless. At minimum you can become landless as a count via a decision or lose lands. You still can’t play as a baron or courtier unless you land them and then switch to them.
You could adopt him and make him a secondary heir or favorite son/ daughter. This way you can select him as new character, as long as he inherit nothing or just a barony.
