Something I’d like to add, in this time Lepers to Christian’s weren’t just sickly people. They were either seen as atoning for sin or blessed with a “Divine Curse”. So clearly Baldwin IV wasn’t atoning for Sin. his men fought so hard for their cause because with him leading They felt as if GOD himself was leading them into battle.
I wonder how long it will take before some Chad not just successfully defends against Saladin, but wins by creating the Empire of Outremer? Laith uploaded a new video about surviving as the Kingdom of Jerusalem. I’ll go and watch it after I watch this. This is a very fascinating Start date for sure.
also took one of saladins daughters as a hostage, took her in as a ward, converted her to french and catholic and married her off to one of sybillas sons lol
I really like CK2 start as Baldwin. Pope will always call a Crusade for Egypt and as long as you don't select anybody as your beneficiary you will always get that land for your self. amazing way to expand your domain. I stopped playing that few months back because of my university, but I still have. As Baldwin I got a son, king Leon of Anjou, King of Jerusalem, Egypt, Assyria and Anatolia.
I've been playing Baldwin IV in 1178, and in the "Third Crusade" (the first one in my game) he practically destroy the Muslims (while the rest of the Catholics were in Libya without doing much). I estimate that if we add up all the casualties Baldwin 4 caused during the Crusade (battles where he was the commander), he massacred around 100,000-120,000 Saracens (totally fr, lmao).
the special mercenaries look very strong lots of knights and retinue without having to pay for levys and they cost less than 100 gold each that's better bang for you buck than your own army is.
It might legit be that strong I mean look at his realm, it's huge in comparison to his neighbors. Although I could be wrong and it indeed is special troops
if you get around 9000 troops you can basically play this game of cat and mouse with saladin where you bait him to chase you back to Jerusalem and the war bonus will let you beat him, doing this I managed to beat him in afew battles and then negotiate peace terms for a 5 year truce, then with abit of luck I got an alliance with the Byzantines lmao
You should have continued this campaign and revenge attacked Saladin since he was weak and take Egypt or Syria. Oh and you defeated Saladin while also in debt and half your country dead to a disease from Egypt
I must just play a lot of mods. I think almost all of them start one January 1st or their in game equivalent. Unless I’ve just not paid attention - which is possible.
Does anyone know for how long the steam pre order bundle will be still available? Will it go away with the release of Roads to Power, or when the very last DLC of the bundle arrives?
I have a question that isn't about this dynasty but if baldwin IV is remembered by his mask why amir ya'qub (king of ssaffarid in persia) has as cuman masks? In the history and the internet there isn't anything evidence of it. Butt it is bada$$ tho... Still idk why they gave him cuman mask
Baldwin never wore a mask historically. It was a feature of the movie to hide his Leprosy. As for the Persian with the Cuban mask, I’ve no idea. CK3 is definitely more historical-lite than anything else.
@@Soul_Tomato yes I have read that other comment about it. I meant since the people know baldwin as that ...but then in saffarid why would ya'qub have a cuman mask I haven't seen any Persian wear it at all but maybe seljuks since cumans were Turks. But I'm happy they made a Persian dlc long time ago, I'm happy about it as an Iranian myself
Crusades were not part of the dlc so as far I know none were added. Edit: the fourth crusade is but I’m not exactly sure what triggers it from an AI perspective
@@scoobydoo2587 ohhhh that’s true. Idk if you can actively choose to make it happen is I guess what I mean. I think it’s up to the pope maybe? I’ve not messed with it.
@@Soul_Tomato I figure its gonna fire at least when Jerusalem falls, maybe even if it doesnt. Since main participants like the Papacy and Venice arent playable, its likely scripted and players cant do much about it.
@@Soul_Tomato Yea he comes from kurdish family. Even in eu4, their remnants hisnkayfa is a kurdish kingdom. Only thing i can think of why they changed is to prevent culture penalties in Egypt but i was hoping them to find better way to solve this issue.
@@somerandomyoutubeuser271 I think he's not Kurdish because he was raised Arab or that's what has been told anyway. That's the only thing I could think of, but his family has to be somewhat Kurdish somewhere.
This start date actually FEELS like what the name “Crusader Kings” implies.
Indeed 😅😅
bingo !
Saladin got one of the most interesting dynasty COAs in ck3 history
Simple is the best
“Better just make that bad boy solid gold”
Piss.
Isn't it because they never had a COAs? Or we just..can't find it.
@@Darthwgamer it should be two headed eagle like Seljuk
Baldwin IV and Salah ad-Din are such interesting figures in history! Their relationship was the epitome of chivalry.
FINALLY! Have been waiting patiently for your own videos for the DLC!
Well there will be plenty :) the one tomorrow is much longer too

Lore accurate Salladin vs Baldwin
Battle changes in this new patch make that fight work mainly.
Baldwin the Leper: An underrated medieval figure who was awe-inspiring.
Hardly underrated anymore. Any decent history enjoyer has heard of him and marks him as one of the greatest kings in history
He's just that guy
Literally. Sala-who?
Kings of Jerusalem have it so easy when it comes to pilgrimages. Just take a twenty minute walk.

A good question. But thanks for the watch!
Already did it today in his lifetime!

Baldwin my love

True. You just can’t control the special mercenaries or when they show up (if they do) which can be problematic lol.
@@Soul_Tomato individual armies, not like the other old mercenary system and holy order?
The first achievement I took was this one. I did in my 2nd try. Baldwin lived until his 60 years in my game.
how did you make him live so long?
I thought you might have to do a few restarts because of the odds stacked against KB4 but your plan worked! This was well done, Mr.Tomato.
Honestly I think if I made the mistake I did where I wasn’t in a good defensive bonus spot a second time I’d have lost it.
His name is Baldwin because he takes no Ls.
W comment
baLdwin
Opposite would be Hairloss then lol
Been reading Sharon Kay Penman's The Land Beyond the Sea novel, then saw this come across my feed!
Nice video! I'm assuming Saladin's army is similar to Seljuks where it's all just 'special troops' consisting of levies
It might legit be that strong I mean look at his realm, it's huge in comparison to his neighbors. Although I could be wrong and it indeed is special troops
Could be 🤔

I won the war unmarried, hired the Knight Hospitaller and some mercs and snagged part of his army when it was divided.
“When i was 16 i won a great victory”
"Get out of my swamp!" LOL 😂
Great video!
When I was 16 years old, I won my first battle...
Recently moved with my wife so no Wi-Fi to update but im so hyped for this dude.
Congrats on the move dude!
use tether on ur phone
What a wild video. I wonder if he could get an heir in time.
I feel like it’s POSSIBLE but probably not lol
@@Soul_Tomato I think you pulled the ejection lever at the right time.
They should make it so you can hire multiple holy orders like old times ;-;
I agree
Never forget the Battle of Montigisard
I tried to get the achievement after I watched this, and Saladin died from a plague before he attacked.
RNG can be a pain sometimes.
When i wake up, it will be released
Maybe a little later than that but tomorrow for sure
I'm still waiting for the rest of the DLCs to come out on consoles😢😢
You should have continued this campaign and revenge attacked Saladin since he was weak and take Egypt or Syria.
Oh and you defeated Saladin while also in debt and half your country dead to a disease from Egypt
The will of God works in mysterious ways
I feel like the crusade feature in the other starting years is quite bad. It's alot of fun to found the holy land anyways, but also much too easy
This start has easily the best holy war features I agree
He is jerusalem
He is everything
Regarding stardates being on 1st of January: isn't the 1066 startdate set in November? That would leave only 867 starting with 1st of January
I must just play a lot of mods. I think almost all of them start one January 1st or their in game equivalent. Unless I’ve just not paid attention - which is possible.
Yeah I didn't even think of mods, even though I play them a lot, certainly more than "vanilla" xd It's interesting what comes to mind first
3:12 Actually that would be Raimon de Chatillon not that guy. That guy is tge one that shouts quiet in your clip
Oh sick. The dope one
Can i enjoy Road to power without any other dlc like royal court ?
This honestly sounds like an easy start. Especially if you heavily focus on the Strategist and Gallant trees.
I didn’t find it too hard tbh. Besides the fact Baldwin will die it’s not so bad.
Does anyone know for how long the steam pre order bundle will be still available? Will it go away with the release of Roads to Power, or when the very last DLC of the bundle arrives?

It will be. Usually it’s later in the day.

ck3 combat is so easy and predictable. The ai is still absolutely crap despite what the devs said.
Us console players are truly sitting here in the dark ages of ck3

Why is he wearing a mask 😭 this never happened irl
Because of the movie undoubtedly. It’s become the pervasive way people see or think of Baldwin even if it’s not really accurate
