Martin Sheen can really deliver a speech, wowza
President Bartlet's oratory was really Martin Sheen's (and Aaron Sorkin's) oratory 🙂
Apparently, the way Jed Bartlet flung his coat around himself was because of a shoulder injury Martin Sheen suffered in his youth...
@@TheLibran38 forceps birth injury... you must not be much of a fan? : )))))
ah 🙂 I had forgotten that...thnkx...
I thought you were just being a fangirl...
That was 2 minutes of near divine rhetoric.
(admittedly, I myself am a fangirl)
MARTIN SHEEN is a fantastic actor but more importantly he reminds people on what our President SHOULD BE. A person of wisdom and intellect, fervor and always compassionate. Jed Bartlett is whom all future presidents should aspire to.
Fantastic, yes! He could have really been president if he wanted it.
President Bartlet was all that Trump is not.
@@mostguitarswinsMartin Sheen would tell you straight up that he is an ACTOR, not a politician; the words President Bartlet uttered were never his own.
@@flyinute That's true, but what's your point? The characterization is inspiring. And by the way, Martin Sheen IS a political activist - read his Wikipedia page.
Jill Biden: "Go ahead. Please sit down."
Everybody stays standing, because they know that when the President stands nobody sits 😁
In this building, when the President stands, nobody sits….
Damn right!
Great show reference!!!
Sorry Jill - The line was "Tell her WHERE you are.''
Winning comment! (Unless you're Dr Jenna Jacobs 😁)
Man.. Sheen knows how to deliver a message.. what a giant ..
I wish he were running for president m!
The best President we never had
His training as an actor helps.
Fun Fact: Rob Lowe wrote that speech in the car on the way over.
lol 😂 freak 😊😊
4 more years of The West Wing would be nice.
I agree!!
Or a reunion show ... 😀
Yes Please. A reunion show with Charlie running for President.@@MariannA-u4l
Wow. I mean you can actually see the exact moment Martin Sheen becomes Jed Bartlet at that podium. What I wouldn’t give to be able to vote for Jed Bartlet in real life. He inspires hope for a brighter future.
You are not at all wrong. Bartlett for America.
What a treat to see this. The West Wing was so well written, so personal and inspiring, that it was a joy to watch. Thanks, everyone.
Martin Sheen as Jed Bartlet can still bring us to tears in a speech shorter than the Gettysburg Address
I could listen to Martin Sheen give speeches all day
Ask not what Martin Sheen can do for your country. Ask what you can do for Martin Sheen.
This show has lifted me up so many times. Thank you to all of you and to the First Lady for hosting them.
There was a real Mrs. Morello, and she taught at my high school. Elie Attie, one of the writers for the West Wing, also graduated from that school in NYC. He thought it would be a great idea to honor all teachers, and give his special teacher a nod.
that makes it even better
EXCELELLENT words by Martin Sheen! Thank you to the Biden admin for a 'tme out' & bringing this to us!
I absolutely love The West Wing.
Congratulations to the whole gang for such a successful show and 25 years!
Now I have to find where I can watch it again 😄
great to see President Bartlett back at the podium!
WOW! Just listen to that speech by Martin Sheen! Incredible! He wasn't even using a teleprompter. Having been in politics myself, I think Sheen should have gone into politics. I can listen to him talk for hours.
Greatest political drama series of all time! Awesome actors and great writers! Spot on delivery and timing! 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Jesus..... if one truly campaigns with poetry and governs with prose, Martin Sheen is a poet truly.
My first time hearing Jill Biden speak, what a sparkling, engaging style. A great communicator. I’ve watched The West Wing three times through - such great and powerful stories, just brilliant writing and staging, a wonderful cast. I’m glad they are so well recognised and appreciated. Thank you Aaron and company.
Why cant an actual president deliver a speech like Martin Sheen. God hes good!
yup
We've had a few: Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Kennedy, Reagan, and Obama.
@@gabriellamar2683 Clinton was a great speaker as well
@@travish3130100%
@@1701Bec Presidents could. Its called beong a natural. Lincolns speeches and even his regular writing just leaps off the page. Lincoln used to do these debates before he was President with Stephan Douglass that probably helped with his practice and I think may hsve even enhanced the effect. Martin Sheen has an interesting preacher rhetorical flourish thats not grandstanding nonsense, but substantive and aspirational, that you don't see too often today.
The writer today could never imagine anything much stranger than the years in recent past.
The West Wing was how I survived the tRump years. I watched every episode again. Thank you for showing us what a functional Whitehouse looked like.
Hmmmmmmm.....that's odd. This is how I'm surviving the Biden years!
I keep looking for Bartlet to give preferential treatment to blacks over all other Americans, letting in millions of illegals, creating economic policies which result in 20 to 70% inflation or that price young people out of those first homes and I just can't find it! BTW, notice we didn't have any of those things under Trump?
When people go pay for gas and groceries they will know who to vote for in Nov. The polices you support did that and Harris is campaigning to fix what her and Biden's polices did.
@@ednakelley814 yea they sure caused global inflation 😂😂😂
@@ednakelley814Gas is $2.59 here, so what the heck are you talking about?
#MagaAreWeird
@@ednakelley814 Amazing that I commented similar to you yesterday and YT removed my comment! This has been happening quite regularly.
That speech by President Jed Bartlett was one for the ages. Dtrump could never deliver those words.
Trump is NOT an "ACTOR" ...... Duhhhhhhhhhh But, i could see and hear in Jill Biden's voice that SHE obviously took some DRAMA classes, herself ...... I couldn't wait till she "shut-up" !!
Just for reference, he is quoting from the poem "Where The Mind Is Without Fear" by Rabindranath Tagore [1861-1941]
Been rewatching The West Wing on MAX. What a great series it was!
I love Martin Sheen. This sounds like Sorkin's brilliant wordsmithery - but damn, Mr. Sheen is glorious.
He quotes the poem "Where The Mind Is Without Fear" by Rabindranath Tagore [1861-1941].
And yes, Martin Sheen reads it gloriously.
This is wonderful. The West Wing really did inspire me to think about what government *could* be instead of being cynical. My grateful thanks to all the cast and crew 👏👏👏👏
'My fellow Americans.' I love this expression.
I just viewed The West Wing entire series on DVD (from my Public Library) for the first time in my life, within the past 6 weeks. I eschewed T.V. for 25 years of my adult life, so didn't see it originally. Seeing this on CSAN now was thrilling!
If you enjoyed The West Wing, try The Newsroom, written by Aaron Sorkin a few years after The West Wing it presages the current sorry state of US politics from the point of view of a TV newscaster and his team. Jeff Daniels is excellent in the leading role - a quick UA-cam search will throw up his opening monologue that sets the tone for the show as a whole.
I would vote for President Bartlett anytime.
Martin Sheen isn't just an amazing actor he's an incredible speaker. And this speech shows the life he brought to Bartlett and gave us an amazing administration that showed an idealistic America and what once was but also never will be. The show stands up today because of that.
God I LOVED this show! I'd always record it even though I was watching it live to catch the little nuances or the rapid dialog. What a show, cast, writers, and production team! I've had a "Reach For The Stars" photo from a Learjet advertisement on my office wall for years and will continue to strive for good.
Was such a good show. Cheers.
Saw Martin Sheen’s speech on Lawrence’s show last night, WOW! Loved the series and the cast! Thanks!
Tell her WHERE you are.
Martin Sheen could live to be 150 and still carry a speech like Jed Bartlett with ease.
What a wonderfully timed political event. The Democrats are sure to hold the White House.
I love The West Wing, I rewatch it every election cycle as a tradition. In some ways it’s a little outdated and pretentious (it’s also borderline fantasy these days) but it makes me nostalgic for a time when politics was more about standing up for beliefs and less about calling people out for owning cats! When being intellectual was lauded and not a liberal agenda. For a time when a President stands…nobody sits.
BARTLET FOR AMERICA! 🇺🇸
I wish he would've mentioned John Spencer.
I think he did just not by name
“Not yet!” - super fast from Dr Biden. ❤
Martin Sheen made me tear up with his speech. So powerful, eloquent, and meaningful. ❤
“Not yet”….okay, that was funny.
Dang, Martin's still got it!
Dule watching Marty perform is all of us.
My God Martin, you should run for the White House. Poor Aaron having to follow that speech
Please for the love of all that is good and holy tell me that there's a picture of Martin Sheen sitting at the actual President's desk in the Oval Office
Was John Spencer not even mentioned???
I kept waiting for him to be remembered. That he wasn't mentioned is very disappointing!
Top top this off would be great to have President Matt Santos and his Chief of Staff Josh Lyman coming in. . . .
Martin sheen is absolutely phenomenal
People used to listen and applaud, instead of filming.
Queen Elizabeth said much the same about her Royal Visits - she said she used to enjoy meeting crowds of people, looking them in the eye and making a human connection, however small and however brief, but then she started to face a sea of little rectangular objects instead.
I honestly can’t imagine Jed Bartlett being played by any other actor. Martin Sheen’s activism embodies how he played the character.
Damn, Matin Sheen IS President Bartlett.
How has Janel Moloney not aged a day in 25 years??
It's her alabaster skin.
Best show ever.
I read that Martin Sheen was only going to do two episodes in the first season. How fortunate for us that this idea changed. He is an inspired and inspiring actor. I enjoyed the West Wing immensely. I know from reading newspapers there is so much bipartisan legislative work that is done with little fanfare and is seldom seen in the daily news. A lot of this kind of effort was highlighted in this excellent series. I would so enjoy seeing a new series of this excellent show. Who wrote that superb Jed Barlett speech?
I love Jed Bartlett
That wasn't Martin Sheen. That was President Bartlet.
What a speech Mr.President
Did the spirits of Sam Seaborn & Toby Ziegler write that speech? Reminds me so much of the "Heaven is too full of angels tonight" speech. And the delivery?
I checked Wikipedia to find Jill Biden's age (I knew she was younger than Joe, but didn't know how much younger). We share a birthday, although she is ten years older. I don't expect anyone to care, but I thought it was kinda' cool.
That's great!
If I ever were to be in a cult for a President it would be the Bartlett administration.
Had the goofiest smile on my face when President Bartlett spoke. Oh how I've missed hearing a roaring speech like that. One that smacks of the pulpit but in a really good way.
Oooooh I adored this show, from England, and I bought the box set, I watch it regularly. And still fancy Martin Sheen. I particularly remember the talking in Latin in the cathedral.
I can’t believe this show is that old.
Toby’s like “what the fuck is happening right now”
BARTLET FOR AMERICA
OMG it turns out Martin Sheen really is President Bartlet.
"The Irish tell the story of a man who arrived at the gates of heaven and asked to be let in. St. Peter says, "Of course. Just show us your scars." The man says, "I have no scars." St. Peter says, "What a pity. Was there nothing worth fighting for?"
We are rightly called to find something in our lives worth fighting for, something deeply personal and uncompromising, something that can unite the will of the spirit with the work of the flesh, and when we find that, we will discover fire for the second time.
And then we will be able to help lift up this nation and all its people to that place where the heart is without fear, and the head is held high,
where knowledge is free,
where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow, domestic walls,
where words come out from the depths of truth, and tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection,
where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sands of dead habit,
where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought, and action into that heaven of freedom, dear Father, let our country awake.
Amen."
I think Aaron must have written that speech.
@@brontewcat Actually, Martin Sheen quotes much of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's work "Where the mind is without fear". 👍
❤👏🏻
@@JohnCampos062298 Ahhh - that explains why it is so lyrical. He is a great actor, but I am not he is able to write that way as well.
These days, whenever I see Martin Sheen become President Bartlett, I can't keep it together.
It ain't no mystery, whether it's politics or history, the thing you gotta know is, everything is......
Showbizzzzz
I would rather have Martin Sheen as President than Biden or Harris.
Crikey! Jed Bartlett never left !
"tell her WHERE you are...." got the line a bit wrong but wow! what a celebration. Jed gave them "What's next?"
Jeb Bartlett still got it.
Many wonderful moments. But, you’d think Dr. Biden’s staff would have prepped her a little better with the right line! It’s “tell her WHERE you are.” Not ‘who.’ But the rest was great :)
Instead of "Tomorrow" Bartlett should have said, "What's Next" at the final episode
Love this, West Wing was the vision of what the government should be. Joe has fulfilled that vision and hopefully Kamala can continue that into this next term.
Jill blew the line right out of the gate
Reciting Rabindranath Tagore Poem
Theatrical performance by Jill.
Who wrote his speech?
Get Martin Sheen in the White House. Ged Bartlett America needs you.
No ... he said tell her WHERE you are ...
I think that VP Harris will be the closest actual President to the beloved President Bartlett.
Not Obama?
You’re delusional. Haha
It wasn't Uncle Fluffy.
What happened on July 21st?
I thought the line was, tell here where you are.
I hate to be that guy, and I’m sure someone else has said it but I’m just seeing this today so I have to say, the line was, “tell her WHERE you are?”
Tell here WHERE you are !!!!! Not who for Pete’s sake
Let our country awake!
I think Toby and Sam worked on Martin's speech for him. He still can deliver.
He says “tell her where you are”., no?
Actors always be memorizing and delivering lines. 5:45
Where is Joe?
secret service shouldve took all the cell phones away
Jacquelyn Glen
Wheres CJ?????
they don't make shows like this anymore...

So let's celebrate a TV show but ignore the 13 gold star families! Priorities!
