Happened to me, ordered a replacement charger port on eBay and replaced it myself. Unfortunately I had to wait a couple of days for an update to become available, but everything worked after that. The part on eBay cost around $100
Tech support has you try simple things. Tech calls for a tow. Tow takes key from customer. Tow submits key and tow ticket info sheet At key drop after hours. Then service manager or advisor writes a repair. If tech requested a repair it would not be written till the vehicle was actually present. Til then it's a scheduled appt. If it no shows??? That means no key drop with tow sheet or tickee. It is ALL bECAUSE of the TOW. That tow guy still has your key. What is his story? The vid ended without telling us. We saw the car drive to the ramp truck. A month or more from now? Who will have a key to your Tesla?

Lesson: Always check with the service department and confirm they've received delivery when you have a car towed in for repairs! The tow truck driver should let you know when the car will be dropped off.
The problem is as technology gets more and more advanced we tend to see more issues only certain dealerships can fix. Which means big money on the consumer end. Thankfully yours was still under warranty but I would've asked them what the total bill was if you weren't.

Hopefully, Tesla will change their stance on repairs before 2020, when the number of out-of-warranty Teslas will increase dramatically. I say 2020 because the Model S came out in 2012 and typically has an 8-year warranty.

Tesla can run what’s called Key Diagnostics and look at every key that has been paired to the Model X and then see which one was last active based off the ping(which would be the one the tow truck driver used to tow the vehicle with).
Exactly. Electric cars aint here yet. But in 20years maybe. Today the classic engine is both better for the environment and run longer. And when it wont run you can rebuild the engine and go another car lifeline.

With understanding he delivers it to the service center. Yes you CAN put it on the failure to do the key drop. Now who has a key to the tesla? But when you call for tech on the phone, you are not talking to the dealer service. It's locally owned. If tech says tow it there and notifies the service dept. There's no auth from the cars owner to write it till they see the car, the tow sheet, and can call you. Where's the key? They call the tow, based on the tow sheet in the night drop. Without those things , it was on the sched. But can't do anything without your written and verbal auth.
I'm curious as to how much a repair like that would have set you back had the car been off warranty. Judging from how quickly the repair center was to look up if your car was under warranty or not, I'm guessing it would have been a prohibitively expensive repair job.
You know the managers good when you can go through this whole process with them not knowing they had your car for nearly a week, and you still leave very satisfied.

I bought my plug-in hybrid to avoid this type of problem, I also have seen model X can’t close its rear doors many times in LA. I feel in a few more years, the electric car designs in general will be perfected that issues like this won’t arise anymore.

@@KrazyKrzysztof yes and no. Teslas don't really "need" battery replacement. They technically need battery "repair".. Look up gruber motors on UA-cam. Yes you can get a new battery but it's 22k from tesla.. Or gruber can repair the damaged portions (cells) or remove them from the module for less than 5k. So significantly better and cheaper than replacing an old battery. But remember. The newer tesla batteries will be million mile batteries and outlive the body of the car.. Amazing how far they have come.
When I drive a tow truck (nights and weekends) I'll pull the keys out while towing the car and lock it, especially for long tows, in case I stop somewhere that someone could get into it, and also so that they don't get locked inside the car accidentally, it happens. Some places don't have night drops for keys, some places have night drops that are hard to find, some have envelopes for the keys with lines to write in the customer info and ticket number etc... Some dont. If I can't find a key drop I leave the keys in the glove box, under a floor mat, door pocket etc... It's possible the guy forgot them in his pocket but I think more fault is on them not knowing it was there to be fixed than the keys being missing anyway.

The SC has cars parked all around the building, and since there is such a small variety of colors, how would they know if another showed up if no service ticket was provided?

I wasn't meaning it was their fault that they didn't notice it was there, just that the fault of the whole situation is that they didnt know it was there. Because the keys weren't there, there was no notice or paperwork or whatever, who knows how or why, maybe it was a BS story and they just hadn't gotten to doing the repair yet. Some places are overbooked for repairs and it takes a while to get all of them through the shop. Especially warranty work because it doesn't make money like customer repair work.

I bought my plug-in hybrid to avoid this type of problem, I also have seen model X can’t close its rear doors many times in LA. I feel in a few more years, the electric car designs in general will be perfected that issues like this won’t arise anymore.

Teslas don't really "need" battery replacement. They technically need battery "repair".. Look up gruber motors on UA-cam.
Yes you can get a new battery but it's 22k from tesla..
Or gruber can repair the damaged portions (cells) or remove them from the module for less than 5k.
So significantly better and cheaper than replacing an old battery.
But remember. The newer tesla batteries will be million mile batteries and outlive the body of the car.. Amazing how far they have come.

When I drive a tow truck (nights and weekends) I'll pull the keys out while towing the car and lock it, especially for long tows, in case I stop somewhere that someone could get into it, and also so that they don't get locked inside the car accidentally, it happens.
Some places don't have night drops for keys, some places have night drops that are hard to find, some have envelopes for the keys with lines to write in the customer info and ticket number etc... Some dont.
If I can't find a key drop I leave the keys in the glove box, under a floor mat, door pocket etc... It's possible the guy forgot them in his pocket but I think more fault is on them not knowing it was there to be fixed than the keys being missing anyway.
@@jordanmpaul I have been to that service center, and believe me, there is no way that they would notice an extra car (or twelve) sitting on their lot. The SC has cars parked all around the building, and since there is such a small variety of colors, how would they know if another showed up if no service ticket was provided?

I wasn't meaning it was their fault that they didn't notice it was there, just that the fault of the whole situation is that they didnt know it was there. Because the keys weren't there, there was no notice or paperwork or whatever, who knows how or why, maybe it was a BS story and they just hadn't gotten to doing the repair yet. Some places are overbooked for repairs and it takes a while to get all of them through the shop. Especially warranty work because it doesn't make money like customer repair work.
The keys were left in drop box.
