    This 15% is IN ADDITION to the 10-15% already charged. So you could be paying 30% in fees on the TOTAL the buyer pays, which includes shipping AND tax. That's an absolutely crazy high amount of extra money paid, especially for someone with a store that sells so well. eBay is happy every time a good reseller goes this route bc it's extra money they get that isn't needed to move items. I sincerely hope folks proceed with extreme caution because an extra 15% would be detrimental to a whole lot of people, if not just a blatant waste of money.

    • @cayleyelaine
      @cayleyelaine  Місяць тому +2

      Correct it's in addition. It's working well for me though.

      Pay an additional 15% for a 75% increase in sales - seems like a no-brainer. Of-course there are variables, as Cayley pointed out, but eBay is now a pay-to-play platform, and they are not going to change it.

    • @Robert1546_Sea
      @Robert1546_Sea Місяць тому

      @@inittoflipit2052 it's not going to be 75% more sales get real. These items were already going to sell and the initial bump that all sellers get when they promote items goes away in a month or two. 15% is just nuts.

    I have played with promoted listings (for years). I am now promoting everything at 2%. My strategy is to set a buy it now price that is a tad bit lower than the lowest few similar items that are listed on ebay (and promote the items at 2%). I feel like this works for me for two reasons; 1- When a buyer searches ‘lowest first’ my item(s) tend to appear towards the top of the search page. 2-
    I am promoting the minimum amount to perhaps hold the position of being ‘near the top of search results’ thus making ebay happy and giving them more of a cut of each sale.
    I could raise all my prices and then promote at a higher percentage, then my net profit will be about the same. However- that does not benefit the buyer. I want the buyer to tell their Friends/Family… ‘I got this Designer dress on ebay for $20!’ That is so fun and awesome to know that my buyers got a great deal. And I know a lot of my buyers can wear the item and then sell it (probably for more) on ebay or poshmark, etc. I love quick flips.

    I have found that promoted listings definitely help however I do not promote anywhere near 10%. I have over 100% STR for the last 3 months and consitently list 10+ daily (hard goods and clothing) As tech n sports has advised there is no need to promote if you are selling items with a good STR. I can understand a seller promoting 10%-15% if an item has 30% STR or less to move it quicker. Paying 10%-15% on good STR items isn't a good business strategy. If you keep going this route you will probably be sick to your stomach at the end of the year when you look at the amount that you paid in ad rates. Last summer I promoted at 10% until the end of the year and was shocked at the total amount that I paid in ad rates at the end of the year. This year I started buying better inventory and promoting way less and I am happy with the results.

      I don't disagree. It was an experiment and I wanted to go all in to really test it out. We'll see how my strategy changes in the future. One could also argue that if an item is good enough, the buyer will find the organic listing first, and not the promoted listing. Plus, if an item truly has a high STR, then the suggested % should not be very high (in theory).

    • @subie8592
      @subie8592 Місяць тому +1

      I respect that. Thank you for sharing your experiment. I Just hate to see a skilled, experienced reseller give away more money than necessary. Don't sell yourself short. The only way that I see it worth it is if your old inventory (70% +) is moving way more than fresh inventory.

      @@cayleyelaineall items have high suggested promoted listing rates. eBay is not going to suggest a low amount, i promise you that you will be paying at or very near that 15% for nearly every single promoted item you sell. I run a promoted listing for a week, it ends every Saturday night and I start it up every Sunday morning for the following week. It helps keep it fresh and seems to give a better boost than running it constantly. I sell a lot of hard goods that are vintage one offs and probably don’t need promoted like my clothes and shoes that are much more saturated, however I find it a pain to separate out what I want to promote vs what doesn’t necessarily need promotion so I just promote all of it, which i know is probably costing me more in fees but I haven’t found a good workaround. I used to promote at 9%, recently dropped to 6%-7%. My sales have slightly decreased but not sure if it’s due to summer slow down or the lower promotion. I’ll keep experimenting to see what works, but probably never go as high as 15%. It’s just too much in fees

If the END date is 6/9 and the sale has not ended, then I would click on the drop down next to markdown details and click EDIT. Try editing the end date / time for tonight ... that might stop it so you can start a new sale and re-fresh everything :)

      I came to say this. I have experimented with eBay promoted listings since they rolled out and turning them on and off was a suggestion that someone from the eBay team suggested to me in conversation last year at a eBay seller check in event. I turned them all off for a weekend and back on and in about 48 hours saw a nice spike. I experimented with timing for a while, but not with the suggested rate, I was doing a flat rate.

    Love the numbers videos! I promote everything on a much smaller percentage. Might experiment with higher rate. I don’t promote Magnolia Pearl cuz it always sells within hours. Definitely not giving away money on items that explode on their own. I totally get your point “keep it simple” approach, though. I recently started doing this on Depop (they call it boost versus promoted) and I have had an uptick in sales. I am hesitant to do it on Poshmark. I think their search feature is so bad compared to other platforms , so I don’t trust their program, especially since it’s still kinda in Beta. Definitely looking forward to your follow up vids on this topic!

    I'm glad it is working & worth it for you. I use the standard promotion at a rate I select, generally b/w 2%-5%. I treat eBay's suggestion as I do the suggested price. I generally ignore 😊. It's not based on the specific item you're selling. Suggested rates have gone from 6%-7% to 11%14% in the last year. I realize you have to play the game to a certain extent, but when I saw suggested rates at 11%-14% for 100% STR items or items where I was 1 of 5 listed, I knew it was mostly a $ grab. For high STR items, I will wait to promote the item for the first few weeks. I have a small store compared to yours so I understand why you would do it across the board. Hope the sales train continue. Keep an eye on your organic vs promoted mix to see if you notice a pattern. Thanks for sharing 🌟

      Yeah eBay isn't in the business of helping the seller with lower fees. By selecting this strategy you might as well forget an item selling at a 5% ad rate, it will be 9% and above every single time and most likely 12% and above.

    11 hours ago!! Of all times for youtube to not notify me! lol Go figure. Well I'm here now and just watched. And of course you need to come back and report more!!! Never too much from you. I did the ebay suggested last year but didn't keep great records. And my inventory was not great because my initial inventory when I came back in 2022 was what was left after closing an online boutique. Long story. So now with watching the pros ;) and learning what sells, my inventory has been getting much better over the last 5 months. Because of that I can't really compare. But the reason I stopped the suggested last year was because I sold something that ebay took 20%!!! I didn't set a cap! And sales were going down at that point so I jumped out. Fast forward I got back in this past January at 4%. Then when I was waiting for your report and seeing how you're sales were going up I put it up to 9% a few weeks ago! For sure I'm heading towards my biggest month ever this month but I have changed TOO many things to know if it's one or all! 1- I finally got LP and started cross listing to Poshmark 3/1/24. 2- I went from 3 listings a day to 4-5 also 3/1/24 . 3- I finally made the decision to go "free returns" 4/15/24 (BEST DECISION EVER THANK YOU) 4- I went up to 6-7 listings per day on April 15th! 5- I went to a solid 7 per day in May and upped my 4% to 9% promoted! And 6- I'm now listing 8 a day as of last week!!! So I EXPECT my sales to go up and don't know which has the most influence! I wouldn't be good at making youtube videos but I'm am "doing all the things".....and hoping things will continue to go up up up because as you say...changes take time to really show up. That's why I think if I'm doing the numbers I'm doing now in J months I can't wait for the last 4 months and early winter sales with all my new changes. And still watching and still learning especially brands. Never ending of course. Can't wait for your next video.

    Hi! I was anxiously awaiting this video. Great job! Thank you for your transparency and insight. My question is this, what exactly are we paying for with promoted listings? Are those the ones that say sponsored? While I was watching your video, I did a search for CP Shades maxi skirt and three sponsored came up, followed by a handful of non-sponsored followed by some more different sponsored ones. I did this in the app. To me, if the sponsored ones were paid for they should have all been at the top. I understand if you are selling new items, for example a juicer and there are hundreds of the same new ones that you would want to pay to have your listing promoted, but if you’re selling one off clothing pieces then what exactly are you paying for? I hope my questions make sense. Thank you. I have learned a lot from you.

    • @cayleyelaine
      @cayleyelaine  Місяць тому +1

      Yes, you are correct. Those are the ones that say sponsored. You are essentially paying for your listing to be higher up in a search page and be shown to buyers that otherwise might not see your listing.

      They're not all at the top because each seller may have a different "ad rate". If seller "A" pays 2% and seller "B" pays 15% then you will see seller "B" higher on the page.

      the problem with promoted listings is if every single person on the platform promoted at 10% there would be no advantage whatsoever and the only winner would be ebay. I'm sorry but blatenly advertising that promoted listings is a viable strategy where you give away an extra 20-30% of your earnings to ebay when you do all the work, source, take risks, ships, do customer service is doing a disservice to your viewers and those who are trying to be profitable resellers.

I am a little nervous about going up to the amount EBay suggests, but your numbers are pretty dramatic. Have you figured out a percentage of profit increase? I mean, I know your total sales are increasing, but what about the amount you are paying to promote? Did any of the figures subtract that? (If so, I missed it, although I think you may have mentioned it in a previous video.) Thank you for all the carefully collected information and data!

      I share some of these numbers in this video as well as the recent what sold videos while showing my performance tab. So for the month of May, which included a couple days of non promotion, I paid an extra $3,257 in additional fees from promoted listings. My net profit according to ebay (after all fees and shipping but not including cogs) was $21,494. The prior month (April) my net profit on ebay was $13,906. So if we are just looking at last month compared to the month before when I was not doing any promoted listings, I had an increase of $7,588 net profit.

We don't get any normal sales now. It was also strange that our Listing Impressions are down 25.5%. These should have increased with the 13% bump (I had all listings at 2% prior). I went ahead and started a 20% sale to help and so far nothing seems effective. Others say restarting helps boost again, so maybe I came across a glitch and need to stop it and restart it.
