Never got to try one of these but they were a beast of a card in their day. Very impressive there with RE4 especially.
I finally built myself a new PC and upgraded from my ancient R9 290. I used all my old parts to build a smaller emulator box / gaming pc for my kids. I found an aftermarket cooler for the R9 290, and now it runs better than ever.
Sweet! Great card for its time and still quite useful.
@@TechLabUK yeah, it can at least play almost anything - I think finding projects to repurpose aging tech is a lot of fun and it's better than just adding to the e-waste problem.
@@KingGameReview It's why channels like ours exist. So much gets written off and its still good or a lot of things.

There are community drivers that not only enable you to play the games but also give a quite decent performance boost. I am playing battlefield 2042 1080p with textures on medium texture filtering on medium and most of the other stuff on low and I average over 65 FPS.. Cyberpunk averages 50 fps on medium with FSR balanced. I am not upgrading yet!

I still rock this card after 9+ years of use :) I love her. although her replacement is coming soon. Props also to the legendary FX8350 stock louder than a leafblower.
My old system also had an FX8350 and an R9 290 :) I have fond memories of it, even though it was loud and power hungry. Upgraded to whole new system a couple years ago, featuring an i5-10400F and an RTX 3060, inside an NZXT H1 case.

Could have been interesting to see a triple comparison.
R9 290 vs RX 470 vs RX 6400.
All 4 GB cards.
Different generations.
Different power requirements.
Very similar performance overall.
Add the Nimez drivers, the 290 might have been a pleasant surprise for the channel.
I still haven't used mine though, it collecting dust.
if only the 6400 wasn't such garbage. maybe a 1650 super with no pcie power

The first GPU I ever bought was a Sapphire R9 270 Dual-X. With its meager 2GB of VRAM, I shudder to think about how it would handle todays games. D:
I should have downloaded the NimeZ drivers, those are updated
I’m going to slap this into my new build until I can afford a new modern GPU

Twas a great little card. Really surprised me at how long they have lasted.
I have this card and I'm trying to play Fortnite OG season it keeps stuttering, can you give me any solution?
No idea tbh, I don't play Fortnite and the card is pretty old now so will lack driver support. Only thing I could think of is dropping settings and using performance APIs.
