People tend to forget how great Oblivions AI was. I remember reading an interview with one of the devs. He talked about how they couldn't figure out why after so many hours of a play through, the dark elf at the beginning of the game always ended up dead in his prison cell. The problem ended up being the guards would run out of food, so the guard with the key would break in, kill him, and take his food. The solution wasn't to fix the code, it was give the guards more food lol
There’s multiple cases of Oblivion’s AI making decisions the Devs didn’t account for, such as the Drug Dealer at Bravil getting ganked by the Skooma addicts, City Swimmer getting caught and summarily executed for theft, NPCs going hunting with their fists and getting killed by Predators etc. I wonder in any similar problems occurred in Skyrim, or if the Devs were able to build the AI with this in mind…
@@Ma1q444 if you're just telling me what they mean, k. if you're telling me specifically to stop idolizing youtube, mind your own business because you don't know what I idolize.
Divinity II has this great mechanic called “Tags” and you pick two tags during character creation. It’s essentially character backgrounds like “warrior, noble” etc and characters will address you based on your race or one of your two tags and you even have dialogue options based on your tags. This would be an awesome TES6 mechanic
Maybe they could work traits in that system somehow. Your "tag" would have positive and negative attributes like traits, but built on the system used in the 3 fallout games by making dialogue options available. Edit: I just finished the video, and realize that he said the exact same thing.
It's a quest I can play a new way each time! Most recently - Walked in with a sparse inventory. Party outfit, lockpicks, and inconspicuous magic items like amulets with life detect - Played along with the scavenger hunt on the first day, confiscating all the stashed weapons in the house - Steal and use Neville's mace. Killings begin. -Eat a sweet roll after each kill - Killed Matilde, who is normally on the ground floor by herself anyways. -Took out Dovesi with Nel's stashed sword. Put cheese on her body because that's why she went in the cellar. - Killed Primo in his sleep - Turn Nels and Neville on each other at the same time. Neville will fumble his armor chest that's empty. - With the final survivor, "find" the actual gold. Do the deed and have a sweet roll. - Plant weapons on each of their bodies and leave
Skyrim Dark Brotherhood quests have nothing on Oblivion's. Oblivion's were so much more unique and you felt like a real assassin. Skyrim just made me feel like I was taking the orc's advice of rushing in with a big sword.

It was a prayer that didn't leave much gold for the Dark Brotherhood but one that the Night Mother would have heard very well. I love this misson!
i found this mission a long time ago when one of you from fudgemuppet made a video about it which got me make a whole new oblivion character and playthrough the dark brotherhood
My favorite thing was to have my last two people be Primo and Dovesi because you can get pretty interesting reactions from them. I'm pretty sure if you talk to Dovesi, she'll say something about not being able to believe it's Primo, but knowing it can't be you. Then she'll go attack him. It was funny to me pinning the two people who looked each other against one another. Even if ones interest was much greater than the other's
It's not about the destination it's about the journey. Sometimes it feels better taking the back roads instead of the interstate. Yeah it might take longer and be rougher on your tires but there's a serenity.
I agree 100%. I like skyrim for a lot of (mostly) exploration and updated combat "feats" but oblivion had pure grade A quests with this one leading them all lol
I don’t agree while oblivion has better quests Skyrim does near everything better. oblivion open world is one of the worst I’ve seen there’s nothing to do very plain and just copy and pasted dungeons
Skyrim is supposed to be more epic and wild cause of the setting and it did.Oblivion by setting is more cosmopolitan and civil you know cyrodiil so quests tend to be more intriguing but skyrim has lotta epic quests too for example the quest about east empire company raiding island
@@boranathan1616 Good points! I'm not saying Skyrim was bad in any regard (I'm still playing it today unlike Oblivion). Skyrim is an amazing power fantasy, but Oblivion was an intriguing story both in and outside of its main plot. I just found stories to be more fun than limitless power personally.
You can do this quest even on increased difficulty, without high hand-to-hand by just sprinting in the building and hitting each of the people really hard in the face once. They won't even know it's you and you get the bonus. The Redguard was about to put his armor on but i just hit him once and he died,
Indeed, it's a reference to an old Norse saga. It all starts when a young otter decides to eat his morning catch with his eyes closed so he doesn't have to see how the fish gets smaller with every nibble. One thing leads to another, and next thing you know there's a dragon guarding a hoard of cursed gold spawned from the magic ring of a robbed dwarf.
You were probably too used to the thu'um and the enhanced graphics vs oblivion but it is an awesome game. And sets up Skyrim 200 years later. I felt this way at first until I got into the story a bit more and started piecing Skyrim and oblivion together.
same. I'm a normie that started on Skyrim, love the ES universe now largely thanks to fudgemuppet. I played oblivion but I mostly just rushed through the main quest line just so I could say I beat it. The engine just felt weird to me and things just felt off. I couldn't immerse myself. they should remaster the old games instead of releasing Skyrim 10 times.
If visuals are the problem, there is Oblivion Character Overhaul, Qarl's texture pack, Cyrodiil ENB, and Oblivion Reloaded. I recommend the first three combined over Oblivion Reloaded, but if you take the time to optimize them you can run them all for an amazing looking game.
You could wait for Skyblivion to be finished or play it as it is now. I feel the same way about Morrowind, but I started TES with Oblivion when it was all the rage. Which is why I'm waiting for Skywind first, then Skyblivion.
Six sweet rolls, six guests, you can remove one each time you kill a guest, and everyone is trapped in a manor.. This, plus the characters’ personalities, seems like it’s referencing Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’. A young lady, a former military man, a young guy who does reckless things out of boredom, a buff and cheery guy, and an old defenseless lady - suppose that makes us Judge Wargrave.
I wish i can play through this quest but i have a ps4 and can only play skyrim which sucks because this looks better than most side quests i can think of. Edit: downloaded oblivion in my pc and finished the whole game with over 200 hours played, way better than skyrim imo.
"She'd never leave your side after the first kill was made allowing you to lead her somewhere private to kill her" Yes, but only if people noticed her following you and you have to explain it convincingly or else your cover was blown.
I left a save permanently locked in on this quest in order to be able to return and replay it in different ways. Definitely the best or one of the best.
This is one of my favorite quests in Oblivion. I have fun killing all the guests in different ways. My last playthrough I killed everybody in clear view, and nobody was the wiser.
For those saying this quest inspired things like Among Us- it's not an original idea. I recommend the Agatha Christie novel this was heavily lifted from, "And Then There Were None" (not just the whole conceit, but also minutiae like the sweetrolls, the anonymity of the host and presence of a storm, which is the book's excuse for their being trapped). Actually a decent read.
I’d be keen for a quest like this to have the option to tell the guests the truth, then devise a plan with them where maybe they drink potions made with materials in the house that make them appear dead (Romeo and Juliet style) and then you begin taking down the Brotherhood or something grand like that.
I wonder if you’d be able to fill a container with poisoned apples and just sleep and wait till you run out of food and they eat the apples, I wonder if the devs scripted it for a week or month long experience
When I played this quest, I watched all of my prey like a hawk, as my sneak was low and it would have been easy to get caught if I screwed up. I also restricted myself to only being able to reload a save all the way in Cheydinhal and having to trek all the way back if I screwed up. At the time, as I didn't know how the AI worked, I thought if I was too close to the body when they died, even if I killed them without being seen the other residents would come to the conclusion it was me (which isn't true, as long as you kill them without being seen you can stand over the body and they won't think it's you). At first, I spent a few in-game hours getting to know all of the guests. I listened to all of their dialogue and got a general idea of how everyone felt on each other. In particular, I noted Dovesi Dran's infatuation with Primo, and Neville's hatred of Nels (and vice versa). I wanted to exploit both of their unique relationships, so I convinced Dovesi Dran to go to go to Primo's room while he was in the living room. At the time, Neville and Matilde were sound asleep, and Nels was drinking in the corner. She was my first kill. I left her body and decided to sleep in the bed that Neville was sleeping in. When I awoke, he was gone and Matilde was gone, with Dovesi of course dead. Now that everyone was on edge. I watched and waited, once again planning my next kill. I couldn't find any opportunities (honestly had plenty, but again I gave Oblivion AI too much credit) and I decided to just sleep. When I awoke, Neville's was asleep again, but I was stubborn and wanted to see how the Nels/Neville rivalry played out so I didn't kill him. Nels stayed in the same place, but interestingly Primo was all alone on the bottom floor... I was rushed to kill him, and rushed to get out of there. It was probably the most tense moment of all the quest and made me truly love the feelings the quest gave me, even if it was all in my head. I rushed to Neville's room, who was still asleep, while Nels and Matilde talked, and I slept again. Of course, when I awoke, it didn't take long for me to kill Matilde secretly, and so I finally got what I wanted: the conclusion of the Nels/Neville rivalry. I hadn't talked to Nels much that quest, mostly focused on the others, so I decided to talk to him and raise his disposition. When I learned of why he hated Neville, it made it all the more satisfying and rewarded to convince him to kill Neville, even if I thought it would be one sided. I was pleasantly surprised when he took out Nevilles so fast, and of course I killed him, in which I tried to give him a grand fight to the death (unequipped all armor and used my weakest dagger) but I still took him out in one strike which I didn't intend. Best Elder Scrolls quest.
I think Paranoia is a better quest that shows off the same things as Whodunit with more player choice and consequences. You should do a deep dive on that quest too as another great example of what was I think the pinnacle of premise and quest execution.
It would also be cool if TES 6 had the reverse of this quest in the game, where you were just a regular house guest and had to figure out who exactly the real killer was (Obviously this wouldn’t involve the Dark Brotherhood quest line from your POV, although that would be a really cool intro into the guild- where you strangely find them randomly performing a job and you had the choice to either turn the killer in, kill them, or just straight up ignore it; then later on giving you an audience with a guild leader). That kind of quest would bring up a lot of nostalgia for the past players without strait up copying such a great quest. 🦦
Hello, FudgeMuppet, I have a few suggestions for a future video regarding your fallout content 1) A part two to your perks done right with an explanation of all the perks you would make. Or 2) A Fallout Empire type video for fallout NV with a Mr House ending set 49 years after the 2nd battle of hover dam, just before people going into orbit. What do you think?
How's the thing about the bonus supposed to work? There shouldn't be anyone who gets out to tell the guild that someone saw you take out the other guests.
Hey guys i had idea for a video subject. It would be cool if you guys made a video about the in game authors of books. Like waughin jarth. Thanks for your videos.
Really hope the Elder scrolls 6 will be dynamic in so many ways with NPC interaction world space like being able to use some type of thing to knock rock's or part's of stuff loss to have fall on your enemy's and just overall feel more alive like I hope NPC's have a ton of dialogue like I mean a ton also more magic type's like ya know I am surprised there isn't more Nature type's of magic like imagine being able to have Tree's grab enemy's with their Branches or have Vine's whip enemy's or Grass start pulling enemy's downwards like quicksand and here is something that I feel no one talks about Necromantic Nature Magic cause Tree's are alive same with other nature thing's sure they don't have a soul but still bringing anything that was alive back to life counts as a form of Necromancy in my opinion another thing on the Nature magic with the whole Tree thing and all that imagine being able to take the form of a Nature giant if you max out Nature magic that would be interesting to say the least yep I just went on a Tangent about Nature type's of magic :|
This is completely off topic but i keep having this dream where Im going on this elder scrolls quest that doesn’t even exist irl and its the same quest but each time the weapons i use and the enemies are different. Its the strangest thing.

i found this mission a long time ago when one of you from fudgemuppet made a video about it which got me make a whole new oblivion character and playthrough the dark brotherhood
19:14 clearly, Fudge doesn’t appreciate the powers of a nice bit of cheese as a coping method.
You sound like the spokesperson for Wallace and Gromit 😂
I knew what this was before clicking on the videooo lmao. This is the best DB quest ever. hands down.
IDK why, but 24:18 is just so funny to me. HAHAHA 🤣
The old lady just wants to touch Neville's curved sword. Curved. Sword.
LMAO.. haha..
Dark Brotherhood Assassin: I don't care about the gold, I just killed everyone so I could have all the sweetrolls!
It's not about the destination it's about the journey. Sometimes it feels better taking the back roads instead of the interstate. Yeah it might take longer and be rougher on your tires but there's a serenity.
YEEEEEEES!!! This quest is my #1 example of why I find Oblivion more fun than Skyrim.
The Redguard was about to put his armor on but i just hit him once and he died,
I had a save that I constantly would replay this quest trying every possible combination and I had a blast every time
I like how the doorman's name is Fafnir who guards his father's house of gold and gems
This makes me sad that I could never get into Oblivion. I started with Skyrim, but this makes me REALLY want to try and get back into the game. 😭
@@KillerChickn That is definitely not reliable, they won't be out for such a long time.
Thank you! I've always said this is my favourite single quest in all of TES, it's just so damn good!
The real question is, how would Ocheeva know whether or not you were seen killing anyone? They'll all end up dead anyway.
Maybe the doorkeeper is keeping an eye on things?
Maybe the guests would've opened a window to call the guards?
It is kinda dumb, if theres one person left and u kill them but they see u it still counts as detected. Very dumb
Sithis knows
Six sweet rolls, six guests, you can remove one each time you kill a guest, and everyone is trapped in a manor..
This, plus the characters’ personalities, seems like it’s referencing Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’. A young lady, a former military man, a young guy who does reckless things out of boredom, a buff and cheery guy, and an old defenseless lady - suppose that makes us Judge Wargrave.
I love Michael’s energy!
Fudgemuppet rule😎
Definitely one of the best quests of Oblivion and a great showcase how what makes Oblivions quests better than Skyrims.
I wish i can play through this quest but i have a ps4 and can only play skyrim which sucks because this looks better than most side quests i can think of.
Edit: downloaded oblivion in my pc and finished the whole game with over 200 hours played, way better than skyrim imo.
This is one of my favourite quest in any video game ever.
best quest in the whole of the series : ) you gave it the attention it deserves
Wow great video, as a newee UA-camr this is a real inspiration. Very entertaining
Beautiful
"She'd never leave your side after the first kill was made allowing you to lead her somewhere private to kill her"
Yes, but only if people noticed her following you and you have to explain it convincingly or else your cover was blown.
I left a save permanently locked in on this quest in order to be able to return and replay it in different ways. Definitely the best or one of the best.
More videos about Oblivion plz!👍👍
This is one of my favorite quests in Oblivion. I have fun killing all the guests in different ways. My last playthrough I killed everybody in clear view, and nobody was the wiser.
Has anyone else noticed that Nevil (the Redguard) sounds like the same voice actor as Preston Garvey in Fallout 4?
What a quest! Makes me want to play an oblivion assassin playthrough
Imagine if one of the other guests also went around killing people
I’d be keen for a quest like this to have the option to tell the guests the truth, then devise a plan with them where maybe they drink potions made with materials in the house that make them appear dead (Romeo and Juliet style) and then you begin taking down the Brotherhood or something grand like that.
One of the best quests from all the games
Oh, I loved this. Apart from Shivering Isles expansion.
The end reminded me a bit of daggerfalls disposition system at the start
It would also be cool if TES 6 had the reverse of this quest in the game, where you were just a regular house guest and had to figure out who exactly the real killer was (Obviously this wouldn’t involve the Dark Brotherhood quest line from your POV, although that would be a really cool intro into the guild- where you strangely find them randomly performing a job and you had the choice to either turn the killer in, kill them, or just straight up ignore it; then later on giving you an audience with a guild leader). That kind of quest would bring up a lot of nostalgia for the past players without strait up copying such a great quest. 🦦
Hello, FudgeMuppet, I have a few suggestions for a future video regarding your fallout content
1) A part two to your perks done right with an explanation of all the perks you would make.
Or
2) A Fallout Empire type video for fallout NV with a Mr House ending set 49 years after the 2nd battle of hover dam, just before people going into orbit.
What do you think?
Great trip down memory lane. Great video!
Never been so early to a vid
Easily my favorite elder scrolls quest ever
How's the thing about the bonus supposed to work? There shouldn't be anyone who gets out to tell the guild that someone saw you take out the other guests.
One thing I wonder about WHODUNIT is....what happens to the doorman? We don't see him again after the quest and only meet him at its start.
Maybe there was no doorman. Sithis works in murderous ways
I think hes an assassin from another location
Great work michael.
I liked this quest and the poison apple quest.
I always save the retired Redguard soldier for last so I could hear his glorious battlecry, "AIYEEEEEE!!"
Dovesi being described as a sweet young girl but sounding like a sixty year old chainsmoker is so jarring, lmao
Hey guys i had idea for a video subject. It would be cool if you guys made a video about the in game authors of books. Like waughin jarth. Thanks for your videos.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates the disposition/speech craft minigame.
Holy nostalgia, batman. It was awesome
Quests like these remind me a bit of Arkanes play your way style
i was literally talking about this quest yesterday
I loved this mission so much I always kept a save to replay it over and over. This quest alone shows why Oblivion had much better quests than Skyrim.
Do top 5 destruction and top 5 alteration builds!!! We need more builds!!!
Camel also did a video on this. Nice to see you cover it too!
This is completely off topic but i keep having this dream where Im going on this elder scrolls quest that doesn’t even exist irl and its the same quest but each time the weapons i use and the enemies are different. Its the strangest thing.
I need to install oblivion and finaly play it more than 5 hours!
