The Palmer House originally opened in 1870 in Downtown Chicago. However, just a year and 13 days later it burned down in The Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
On the site of the second & third Palmer House hotels, the current one was built from 1923 - 1925. It was designed by the legendary Chicago Architectural firm, Holabird & Roche.
The Palmer House has hosted dignitaries, entertainers, and celebrities of all types from practically all eras. It is located in the heart of The Loop neighborhood, close to the River North & West Loop neighborhoods.
In this film we review the Palmer House hotel as well as give you a first-person view into the amenities. You'll also get behind-the-scenes access to the Palmer House King Suite on the 20th floor.
The Palmer House was purchased by Hilton a few decades ago and is famous for it's luxurious & regal lobby, with a hand-painted ceiling (actually 21 individual paintings) commissioned by Bertha Honoré Palmer.
There is a state-of-the-art fitness center and a pool that just underwent a multi-million dollar restoration.
The Palmer House has suites & rooms, the Lockwood Restaurant, lobby bar, Lockwood Express, a museum, a Grand Ballroom, The Empire Room, the Red Lacquer Room, Potter's restaurant, and so much more!
What's good #GustoGang, thanks for watching my first Chicago Hotel short film. We spent 24 hours in the ICONIC Palmer House (which dates back to 1870). What HISTORIC Hotel should we visit next??
Intercontinental
The drake hotel in Chicago

Awww, I had my prom there back in 99- the grand ballroom. Gorgeous hotel!
What a gift to receive. Woof!!! Absolutely GOOOORGEOUS!!
😎🙏
My great aunt worked at the Palmer House (restaurant or bar I think) in the 1940s and 1950s. Glamorous then, glamorous now.
I bet she has some captivating stories! 💯
Just missed you as we stayed at the Palmer in July and the fitness center was the best - the hotel was lovely (our room even had two bathrooms). Highly recommend the grab & go breakfast for the fabulous coffee… or a trip to Goddess for cappuccino and sweets after a day at the Art Institute (the miniature rooms there were amazing). Didn’t have a brownie, so we will have to come back. Found you Luis when I started my Chicago research…and loved the city (and your ideas) so much I’ve made two trips already this year! Come visit us in NY!
Love this hotel. I attend a conference there every year in the Spring. The meeting room space is magnificent. Please do more hotel tours in Chicago and across the country.
Awwww man, I missed the premier. Stupid work meeting.
I used to be an event planner and we did events there all the time. It is a pretty cool place.
Lol hope it was a good meeting! It was so amazing staying there I'll definitely go back 💯
Amazing video Luis! The production quality was definitely on point.
Much appreciated Michelle!! 😎
I was in Chicago the 24th through the 31st. I walked in the Palmer House only to get to the gift shop and didn't realize how extravagant it was in the lobby. Had I known I would have gone through the lobby and took in the grandeur from the views in the video. I love Chicago and definitely need to plan a trip when it's colder like October or November.
Lol I was in Chicago July 21-24 and was like "next time I plan to travel to Chicago is going to be when its cooler weather" lol
Thank you for this Vlog, Luis !! It’s so good !
Appreciate the kind words YURI 🙏
DO the Drake Hotel next.
Great idea 😎
Great video. I live in Chicago so I get some new locations from you. Never stayed at the Palmer House either, but I have walked through the lobby before. Didn’t know the story about the first one burning down.
Thank you Dedra! It was a nice stay, hope to visit again soon!
Appreciate this video. I stayed at this hotel a few years ago. Was a very enjoyable experience. I hope you guys will consider doing walking tours of Lincoln Park and Gold Coast neighborhoods!
Thanks Hank! We've done walking tours of both neighborhoods - ua-cam.com/play/PLr2g_uWUwNicsI0JfRkTFHJHawj58-dIE.html
I love going to lobby just to have a drink! I second the Drake Hotel - you should their afternoon tea service as it's a great spot for a date. You should also to the Congress Hotel and explore their haunted rooms for a Halloween special!
The lobby is so elegant! The Drake is definitely on our list, hopefully soon!
Haunted rooms? Just the thought gives me chills.
@@chitownvictor I think the whole 8th floor is haunted, a room on the 12th floor that has been shut off, and room 441.
@@DanteeArias1 No way! I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life and I didn’t even know. I once heard that the Palmer and Drake were haunted.
@@chitownvictor I heard that too!
Watching your video from a regular room at the Palmer House right now bc I was curious what the better rooms here look like. XD
I swear every time I walk through the lobby area I see people doing photoshoots for weddings or whatever.
Wait, I got those 2 water bottles too. Didn't realize that was "for being an Honors member", lol.
That lobby 😍 that suite 😍 this hotel is so awesome, gotta check it out sometime 🔥
Bro it's one of the best hotels in Chicago for sure!
I read somewhere that the hotel also has a connection to the underground tunnels. Please do the Hilton on S. Michigan 🤙🤙
That one might be next 😉
Hey, Luis, great video! I still have a wooden Palmer House hanger that my grandfather "borrowed" back in the 30s when he stayed there! (Don't tell the cops!) :)
You should book a stay at the new Pendry Hotel, located in the historic Carbide and Carbon Building, which is Chicago's finest example of Art Deco architecture. I understand they recently opened a rooftop bar, with amazing views of the Loop and Michigan Ave.
Great idea, I'll check them out!
Awesome, Luis, AWESOME!
Thank you Bea 💯
Awesome video! I just visited Chicago for a few days and used your tips to check out Hyde Park as well as the Rookery! Just awesome. And with videos like this one, I'm very much hoping to return to experience more of this awesome city
Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear that you had a great trip 😎
Just booked here today for Halloween. Can I get a tour when I come out there my guy? Watched way too many of your videos but glad I found your channel. Your insight is way more helpful than you think.
Mucho Gusto !!!
😎
I love the Palmer House Luis ! Please consider doing a tour of the Plaza Hotel in NYC.
Glad to hear! Yes one of my big goals for the channel is to do a Plaza Hotel NYC Vlog 😎✊
I will be staying here this week
I'd give them a pass on the longest continuous b.c of COVID. Looks so nice too.
I agree on the continuous operation! It's a beautiful hotel, really happy I got to film this!
It’d be cool to see a night at The Congress hotel and learn all the history about myths and legends and to see the Architecture and ball room(s)
Another classic hotel!
Isn't that the one that had workers on strike for a really long time?
✨💴💶💵🏆💐🎬
Thank You Both💛💖✨Amazing Video✨As Always✨
Thanks so much for watching Denise!
Ok but can y’all send me one of those brownies!? Awesome video
Haha we'll see what we can do
went there a lot for mothers day. my cousin got married there and his parents had their business there
We would put on ties and coats and drink martinis and smoke cigars in the lobby and feel grown up and successful we were 21-22 at the time(don’t ask).
I'd this where princess Diana stayed? I think I may have stayed here before, but I ant remember. Very nice place.
if i remember correctly i think they used to have krispy kreme on that basement
✨💛👑🏆👑💖✨
💯
What’s a suite like that cost??
He said $362 in the video.
Usually the King Suite runs a bit higher, but I was able to find the least expensive night of the month 😀
Staying in the King Suite now…it’s a bit over $600 w/tax. Huge space and well worth it IMO ….and mine has a slightly different layout. The conference room is set up more like a dining space…
Very out dated but the lobby is gorgeous
