Stayed down the street from this hotel at the Silversmith and walked over to the palmer House and the lobby is one of the most beautiful lobby's I have ever been in
Mom and her mother stayed here in 1930's for the Chicago Worlds Fair. Mom and I went sometime in 1970's for her first Amtrak trip . I was first going into lobby and said Oh my God, and she wondered what was wrong, but I was in awe of the beautiful lobby with ceiling murals. She did not remember them . We really enjoyed our stay there for 3 nights and saw sights around the area. What a fabulous place, a friend has booked us here for this August on our annual train trip. We do a rail trip every year , he has never been there and neither has the other lady who joins us. What a treat they will be in awe too.
Ahhhhhh love your story! I love hotels like this, makes you feel like you have went back in time. I agree the lobby is just amazing!!!! Thank you for watching 🙏 we really appreciate it. Enjoy your trip
My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon. It was fabulous. When we were checking in the clerk asked what we were in town for and when we said our honeymoon she upgraded our regular room reservation to one of the penthouse floors for free and made our stay even more memorable.
My late husband and I stayed at the Palmer House for our 1st anniversary back in 1981. I remember the beautiful ceilings in the lobby. It reminded me of an opera house.
Hi Peg, Its such a beautiful hotel, you can just feel the history as you are walking through the hotel. I'm so glad you have those memories. Thanks again for watching we really appreciate it!!!!
Funny story: Phil Collins reportedly named his album "No Jacket Required" because of an experience he had at the Palmer House. Collins had been wearing a very expensive leather blazer, but the Palmer House did not consider it adequate attire. Early one morning, about 20 years ago, I was standing across the street from the Palmer House, talking to a homeless and somewhat inebriated gentleman. I told the man of Phil Collins's experience. He replied - slurring slightly - "I know. They did the same thing to me!"
@@scottsdaletravelchick Thanks! All the credit should go to the homeless man LOL! I'm from Chicago originally but moved to the Valley of the Sun while still in high school back in the 1970's. So my experience across from the Palmer House was only during a visit. I thank you for the wonderful visit! I always wondered what it was like inside that place!

Beautiful place
Nice v log
The rooms were run down, and the food was bad, but I enjoyed my stay given the location and the history of the property.
