Love this reviews. I was wondering if getting into the modeling industry with other non standard modeling softwares like Blender and Cinema4d will get you in..or you need to go for the industry standard like Maya?

If you want to go in to VFX you will need to know Maya, that is pretty much a non negotiable. If you did your folio in Blender but still have an understanding of Maya and are open to using it at work, it's not a problem usually. On a more rare occasion Blender can be used but you will still have to know Maya.

@AndrewHodgson3D thank you for the advice. I guess I will focus more on learning Maya. Maybe learn Substance Painter too

I think what would help a lot of people trying to get into the film industry or even games etc, when modelling a piece is to make a friend or two that is willing to texture that piece (decent at texturing). This has two benefits:
    1. Both of you can bounce off each other with shout outs on Artstation.
    2. It shows recruiters potentially about communication skills and a back and forth feedback between you and the person that is texturing.

Potentially. You are still competing against many people that can do both though. I think collaboration works best when it's with someone from other departments. Like a rigger and an animator for example.

@@AndrewHodgson3D Yeah that makes sense thinking about it, since it's a given for game artist to do everything (Not rigging/animation though).
For film Portfolios I see a LOT of of people just doing the model and no texturing on it hence my original comment.
But yes We can both agree that collab work can give that small advantage to recruiters that you are willing to communicate and collab on your own with others...
