    Customer service is best I’ve dealt with. I accidentally washed my slim bolt action pen with my jeans and while cleaning it I lost a piece. I reached out to them and within 2-3 days I had the missing piece in the mail with another sticker. 10/10 experience with this company and will always recommend them to anyone in the market for their type of products

      @@Kleiner_Lutz yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw your reply. I really love my watch and all the other stuff I have from BiD, so hopefully I get it back soon. As Taylor said in the video, they use RZE to build the watches and they are supposed to be a high end tough watch.

    Absolutely love Big Idea Designs products. Own nearly every item mentioned here, as I have all the screwdrivers and the utility knife, plus prybar. I am so happy BigIDesign now offered a flipper utility knife. I avoided thier TPT Slide, because I wanted to avoid the "out the front" action.
    I kind of wish more of the utility blade was encased, which is a problem with the TiRant, and the Arena - Flipout as well.
    At $175.00, the price is out of my income bracket, but seems reasonable when compared to the Zero Tolerance 450, or Quiet Carry iQ, but these have blades made out of higher end steels.
    It seems like BigIDesign added the cost of scales, to the cost of a TPT Slide. Which is why the price makes sense, but it is out of my income bracket. [I need to stick to Husky, and Milwaukie; for their utility knives, especially since I rarely use a knife in my day to day life.
    BigIDesign Utility very cool, but I can't justify it for my use case/ income bracket.

    The slim click pen all you have to do is click it to deploy the ink and you turn the click piece to adjust the length. Don’t need a screw driver.

  • @taklebury
    @taklebury Рік тому

    @Taylor Martin if you have to push on the nib to get the ink to flow then the nib tines are probably too tight or a piece of paper fibre is in it. If you have a feeler gauge take the thinnest and try sliding it between the tines this will do two things, floss the nib removing debris and check the tinea adjustment. The feeler should just grab when removing it. If it feels super tight there are ways to adjust it. I would watch a nib adjustment video, plenty of YTers have done them. But a properly adjusted nib should rest on the paper and lay down a line. Then you will love writing with a fountain pen. Great video! Just a shame my wallet will be empty again soon. 😂

    • @BestDamnEDC
      @BestDamnEDC  Рік тому

      I meant that as a right-handed user, you pull when you write. Lefties are pushing (left to right) when they write. It’s just physics. I didn’t mean I had to bare down on it - just talking about the direction of the pen

    • @taklebury
      @taklebury Рік тому

      @@BestDamnEDC ah, that makes more sense now. Being a lefty myself I write with the paper sideways and my writing goes down the page and from tight to left. Helps to not smear the ink too.

    I have a question that I hope someone here could answer - why do almost all of those pocket tools companies do these tools in titanium only? I almost never see cheaper versions of these tools made out of steel. Is there a legitimate reason why these tools have to be titanium or is it just that when they are their profit margin can be higher? And yes, I do know that titanium is expensive and harder to work with, but more affordable options would be really welcome.

    I divided this into 2 sections. My new keychain flashlight, and a mini folding knife that i am tempted to buy...
    -------------------------------
    Keychain flashlight
    -------------------------------
    I recently got the Mecarmy "X1S" titanium keychain "twisty" flashlight, and think it has a very well balanced brightness and beam pattern for everyday tasks. Because of this, i am able to actually enjoy the simplicity of a flashlight with only 2 modes. I also think its runtimes is just right for what i need from a keychain flashlight.
    Size: Length is 45.1mm/1.775in, and the head diameter is 14.5mm/0.57in. This is considerably shorter than the Olight "i3E EOS" (worlds smallest AAA flashlight), and just a LITTLE thicker.
    Weight: 16g/0,564oz (including battery - on my scale)
    Modes: High mode is 130 lumen, and the manufacturer specifies "Low" mode as 8 lumens, but reviews say its 12 lumen, and it definitely looks about twice as bright as the 6 lumen mode on the Olight "i1R 2 Pro".
    Runtimes: Runtimes are usually rated for the time it takes before it has dropped to maybe 1 lumen or something. If you ask me, this is both confusing and misleading, so i did my own tests on "low" mode, and at the 2 hour mark it was (IMO) more than bright enough for finding my way home in the dark. At 2,5 hours it was definitely useable in a pinch, but was starting to get a bit dim (i like dim lights btw, but not too dim). At 3 hours it was no longer useable for hiking, but would still function as a tentlight... High mode dropped to about the same brightness after 30 minutes.
    Beam pattern: Its got TIR optics which produce a nice "medium" sized hotspot with a soft halo around it, and very little spill. The beam (including halo) spreads out to around 62cm/24.4" diameter for every meter distance to the target.
    Color temp: Neutral white
    Battery and charging; It comes with a 100mAh 10180 battery (worlds smallest rechargeable), and has Micro USB port for charging, which took exactly 1 hour after running for 3 hours on low mode (i will probably never drain the battery that much again). USB C would have been nice, but im ok with Micro USB on such a small battery.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    Mini titanium liner lock folding knife:
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    When checking out their website, i noticed the tiny Mecarmy "EK33S Titanium EDC Mini Folding Knife", which i think looks really cool. Its definitely a bit pricey for such a small knife, but the blade is M390 steel, and the size makes it very good for a small EDC box.
    Here is a copy paste from their website:
    Features:
    Handmade, patented design
    Probably the world's smallest titanium liner lock folding knife
    Closed length only 49mm
    Manual quick-opening design
    Blade material M390 steel, handle material TC4 titanium
    Vacuum oil hardened heat treated blade, durable and sharp
    Liner lock, with replaceable locking plate, ceramic ball detent
    Dimension:
    Total length: 83mm/3.268in
    Closed length: 49.5mm/1.95in
    Width: 18.2mm/0.72in
    Thickness: 10mm/0.394in
    Weight: 25g/0.882oz
