As a 50YO white belt and a product of orthodontia, I opted to obtain a mouthguard. I obtained one for minimal cost from my dentist.; it was/is fitted. To be fair, I had reached my insurance deductible from a dislocate elbow from BJJ, so everything has been between $10-$35. Signed, White belt
People love to go fancy on mouth guards but I find that the cheap moldable clear ones work just fine for me personally. 10-12 bucks for 2 boil and bites. Most of the guys in my mma gym use shock doctor though
There’s a couple of things in play here. Bottom teeth are usually behind and braces by top teeth. So top teeth get hit first and if they’re protected they absorb the blows thus protected both top and bottom. Also jiu jitsu doesn’t have punching

Thanks for sharing that tidbit - might be something others will benefit from.
Appreciate you watching!
What mouthguards do you recommend for jiu jitsu? Ive read lots of people recommending the Sisu Max. What are your thoughts on it?

Why are mouthguards only worn on the top teeth and not both top and bottom teeth? Couldn’t a stray punch result in a bottom tooth getting knocked out?
