    Dude, my rolling offsets are ALWAYS off. Now I know why. I was just adding the vertical and horizontal without using the formula. Thanks man. Gonna use this to roll a set of pipes off of a wall onto a rack today. I wish I could post a pic when I’m done. Excited to get to work!

      Yea its just like a regular offset but you need to find the diagonal distance first. I gave you 2 ways one is with math and the other is in case you don't have a scientific calculator. Thanks for watching please sub and check out my new videos.

    I think your manual example would be extremely accurate, to within a 1/16th of an inch, if a person used a square to mark out the rise and horizontal marks, but I think it is a great method in a pinch if a person just tried to carry a speed square on them or a framing square or anything to get a good 90 degree angle for their marks!

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  2 роки тому +2

      Yes your right if you want to be accurate a speed square works best. Again I should've mentioned that. Some times all the words don't come out as I'm thinking it. When I re-record the video I will have to mention that it's a great point.

    Awesome video man. You explain very well on all you lessons. I had a question bro. Is there a way to get this “roll” effect on a 3 point saddle? Like if your pipe is running Parallel to another pipe and you need to get across it but continue parallel to it just on the opposite side.

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  4 роки тому +2

      You are the second person to ask me that. Now you got me interested. I dont know of any way you can make a saddle roll. I mean after bending a saddle if you want you can turn the saddle any which way you want to make it look like its rolling but to any electrician it would look like someone was just to lazy to straighten out the pipe. Honestly what you explain i cant seem to picture it. Is there some way you could draw it out or kind of find a way to explain it to me better with a drawing. I would love to answer this for you but i need to understand what you're asking. You can drop the question again in my Instagram@Holmzlaw

    I have a quick bend app I bought off Apple store, and it gives me the same diagonal measurement from the rise and horizontal measurement, but the space in between for a 45 degree bend is different by a 1/4". It gives me 19 7/8" instead of 20 1/8" and it gives me the shrink of 5 and 7/16" your example is the only one that gives a good formula for a rolling offset. I think the difference is because you use 1.414 instead of 1.4 for the multiplier! If you take 14.25 (1.4) it comes out as 19.95"

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  3 роки тому

      Maybe you didn't understand. Anyhow, I'll explain it briefly here. The rolling angle is what you want it to be for example 30, 45, 60 degrees. What you are trying to figure out is the diagonal measurement which is what I show you how to find. The method you are thinking of is totally different and you would have to use trigonometry to solve the problem. I have a playlist full of video's using this method called Advanced conduit bending. However I'm still haven't released the rolling offset video for this method. It will be out soon though. Thanks for the comment.

    Pathagorean theory, also here is an easy way , find up and over measurement. Then find a perfect 90 degree edge somewhere, make your marks, over and up,measure diagonal that's your roll. Then decide your degree of bends, use your multipler.

    why cant you just measure on an angle? from the white line to the knock out? So the t BOTTOM of the pipe, to the SAME location on that knock out. . Why cant that work? so lets say, the 5 oclock location of the pipe, to the 5 oclock position of the knock out? why cant that work?

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  Рік тому

      Yes that will work some what. I do it when I don't have to be precise and bring square doesn't matter., I also do it when I'm trying to save time.

    Wait, why for the roll, or horizontal measurement you went center to edge ?? Why not edge to edge or center to center?? Isn’t that a little off?? Just asking bro

      Maybe it doesn’t matter for 3/4”?? But I’m doing 4” conduit, can I still pull my marks the same way??

    you can just measure diagonal with your tape as well, its just like measuring the rise of an obstacle.

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  4 роки тому

      Yes that is true but sometimes you need accuracy and also there are times where you just cant measure diagonal because there are no surfaces to take your measurements. But yes you can just measure diagonal but it isnt the best way especially when precision is needed.

      So that's another video which I've actually recorded already. I should've mentioned it. In this video Mark A can be placed any where you decide. Only when you have to do a pre-determined offset is when mark A matters. Either way you can watch my pre-determined offset video for more on the topic.

    You know you can make the offset depth what you need and then just roll the pipe. This takes way too long and I would not want my guys working on that math. I'd want them working on electrical work and bending conduit. Take the depth or as you said rise in this case make your offset according to that with whatever angles you want on it or need for the job most of the time you just use 30゚ angles and then you simply stuff it in yourAnd roll the whole offset over till it reaches that Box.

    • @TheArtOfConduitBending
      @TheArtOfConduitBending  Рік тому +1

      I understand what you are saying. But this is the problem that we are having. The math is a part of the job. Doesn't take long. It might feel long because you're micro-managing your workers. It doesn't take long to do a bit of math. And the outcome is rewarding two fold. 1). You get to practice the formula
      2). You gain confidence everytime you install your conduit and it fits perfectly.
      This is just my opinion, of course.

      To answer you a little better. I'm not into the quick video's. Most of my video's are long and detailed. I cater to the apprentices that need the details. Again I do apologize if you are some one with lots more experience then i'm sure you can find other channels that will give you a quick fix. But with this channel I'm am trying to set myself apart from the others. You can't teach pipe bending in 10 minutes. You can only give someone the formulas in 10 minutes. And if someone is looking for formulas well i'm sure you can find that on the internet with out watching video's. Sorry for the inconvenience.
