I think you'd go a lot faster if you didn't have such an enormous boiler pressure drop when you started. I'm not sure if you are familiar with cutoff - but the reverser serves as a way to adjust the valve timing and control the amount of steam directed to the cylinders. If the reverser is at 100% foreward, you are using a large amount of steam. It's good when starting off, but as soon as you start accelerating you'd almost want to bring it down to 50% foreward, or whatever stops the PSI from dropping. Cutoff is one of the best ways to deliver maximum efficiency when used properly
HalogamerYT Zay this if opinion and anyways in modern day life we have more trains running and new trains every year whilst you only stick with same trains
You lost all your boiler pressure at the start with the Daylight. You stayed on high regulator for too long. The Daylight is a challenging engine in this game to get going fast and maintain it's pressure, though. Ive gotten a Daylight up to 102mph in this game. With a set of coaches. On level ground.
Next you should do the Pennsylvania S1 vs LNER A4. The A4 gets to around 130mph-140mph, and the S1 is said to have gone around 140mph-150mph-160mph, but it probably couldn't go that fast due to the tracks it ran on, so it went around 100mph-120mph.
I do have a complaint. you set Mallard's speed to 80, which is kinda unfair. You should leave it unlocked since they could go around 90 on flat terrain (Mallard reached it's top speed going downhill with a full load. damaged the center piston too.) Both engines are capable of going over 100 mph, so you should give an honest race, no restrictions, and no downhills.
Forgive me if I am mistaken but, do my eyes deceive me but in the third person view do I see a track with an unfair radius and are my WRITTEN RECOUNTS OF THE RECORD BREAKING DAY say 126 not below 100? Am idetecting cow doo doo radiating from this video or am I missing a small detail here?
To be honest, I like British locomotives more than American locomotives, and I'm American! The reason why I like British locomotives is because they have some much detail on their design and they have so much good history about them, like the E2 class tank engine. American locomotives are ok and do have good designs, but British locomotives just have something I can't explain.
C'mon! Why do have to set Mallard to only 80?? That was an unfair race. I myself am an American, but I would love you more if you set the engines to the proper speeds! I honestly don't care if Mallard wins! Those who would make a fuss should just quit whining and suck it up as Mallard being the fastest steam engine ever built should be no surprise. Don't pit US vs UK. We're supposed to be friends not rivals! America doesn't suck when it comes to steam locomotives, and we don't need an unfair race to prove it! Remember, it's not all about speed. Listen England, you may have the world's fastest steam locomotive, but we've got the world's largest! *cough* Union Pacific Big Boy *cough* You see? BOTH nations have their own things to be proud of, so it would be futile to compare them. Rather, we should admire what BOTH nations have to offer. No one is better than the other because they already have different rail systems.
Even though Britian Technically has the fastest locomotive, the GS-4 operated regularly at speeds over 100mph, while pulling 18 car trains along almost the entire length of the Pacific Coast of the US. If put next to each other, on level ground, with a few coaches thrown in for good measure, the GS-4 would probably be evenly matched, if not faster than the Mallard.
The reason for our famous Daylight's air horn is for the whistle, in real life when the GS-4's like 4449 pulled the Daylight streamliner, when the GS-4's where highballing down the tracks, the whistle was positioned adjacent to the smoke stack so the whistle couldn't be heard that well so the air horn was used, it made it more noticeable to hear a oncoming Daylight while highballing. The cab of the GS-4 and GS-6 and GS-2 is a "all weather" cab, so if it were storming outside like a snow storm or heavy rain, the crew could be completely isolated from the weather and continue operations without any problems such as coldness from snow or wetness from rain. So when you say it's a diesel-steam locomotive, think again, think Southern Pacific
Actually the reason why 4449's whistle is next to the stack is because Doyle McCormack moved it there so he had the ability to quill it. All Daylights had pedal valve whistles which were right in the middle. The GS-1s, 2s and 3s also had open back cabs. The GS-4s, 5s, and 6s had the all-weather cab. The air horns were added because fog could get thick on the coast line route. The horns were designed to pierce through the fog vs the whistle. It was also more convenient to use in the city or at high speed.
The UK is known for making their trains go fast. The US is known for making their trains strong. It doesn't matter which one is better. Each train has it's own strengths and weaknesses. Let's use Big Boy as an example. It's not very fast and trains like Mallard can outrun it. That's where Big Boy makes up for in strength. It can pull far more than Mallard.
Great video. If this was a real race then Mallard would win. The Daylights operated at 100 mph and, as we all know, Mallard ran at 126 mph. The daylight is a southern pacific GS-4, and that loco, 4449 is preserved and in excursion service. Most Southern Pacific steam locos did have a horn. If you have the cab forward DLC, and press Q, you sound the horn. Most SP steam locos had a horn because of fog on the Pacific coast. Also I love seeing US and UK locos next to each other to see the size difference.
Jacob Rubin the problem with your claim is that both the A4's and the GS4's have 80 inch drivers, hence a very similar top speed. In addition to that, the GS4's did constantly reach 100 mph, but also higher. These have never been fully authenticated though. Another thing to point out is that mallard was running downhill when she reached 126, and probably wouldn't have the power to reach 126 on level track with the same load. She also broke (partially) when she reached that speed. While she did beat the speed record, it would be more of a struggle to beat a larger version of her (the GS4) on level or uphill tracks. If your going to point out that the GS4 lost, here's something I've noticed: most of the time, whatever he drives loses
Sorry if you don't really understand this, but this is kind of physical. The reason why Mallard got the head start is because Mallard is much smaller than Daylight. So basically Mallard didn't have to carry as much weight so it can go faster. But Daylight is much bigger and heavier. So it had to carry more weight and try and gain speed. It's like carrying a giant weight and trying to run without falling over. Then Daylight was catching up because the weight (things might get confusing) was pushing daylight by the momentum. And Mallard didn't have to much weight to carry. Mallard weighs (167.6 t; 184.8 short tons), and Daylight weighs 788,730 lb (357,760 kg) So if you want to correct me on anything and expecting me to respond, I'm not going to respond. I'm sorry.
Hi. Fan of the rails here. Believe it or not, the Southern Pacific GS-4 class 4-8-4s (the class that the Daylight 4449 belongs to) were recorded over 100 mph on some runs. So, while the Mallard is a fast and beautiful, the Daylight, however is built for power and speed... just takes a bit longer to get there.
Mallard was recorded at nearly 130mph... American locos are for longer ranges with heavier freight than British or European ones. It is simply a result of the size and low density of population in the US.
It’s Ben Wilmarth again. You could do a race with Mallard against Chesapeake and Ohio 614. Did you know that C&O 614 and her sister locomotives are the fastest steam locomotives in North America. They have a top speed of 125 miles per hour. That’s almost as fast as Mallard and very, very, very, very fast for non-streamlined steam locomotives.
Wouldn't the proper way to race them be to set both of them to auto drive, with a speed limit set to 150+ mph so they're not artificially shackled? Also as per the other video, "how do I make this go faster?" ... reduce the cutoff. That's what the walshirtz valve gear has been installed for after all. Go for maximum expansive working, and reduce the amount of drag produced in the cylinder by having to exhaust loads more steam than it can actually use.
"Daylight is impossible!", Mallard grumbled, "She clanks about like a load of old iron. And she is so slow, she makes us wait!" The 'Muricans were indignant. "Old Iron?? Slow?! Why Daylight could beat ya in a race any day!" "Really??", said Mallard, "I should like to see her do it!" ... get the reference? XP

esref Garol that's because America is a fat country with fat people and so they need fat locomotives to go Long distances but here in the UK we have sexy locomotives because the uk is a small Country and must have small locomotives
I can't decide whose side I'm on. Lazer did say this was to get his fans back, by restricting Mallard's speed so that he can get ahead and just get fans back, but then again he did make it more fair by slowing down for Mallard and it is just a race. Reply what side you're on.
4449 Daylight is The Queen Of Steam, Standing 5 METRES HIGH with 2 tenders, Runs on Oil and has Whistle,Bell and Fantasticly A horn with 5,500 HORSEPOWER and 110 Mph But It could hit 120 MPH!!!! And 1 of My Best Favorite STEAM TRAINS EVER😆🚂🚂!!!!
In fairness, the Mallard was going downhill when they broke the record, if put on even ground with a set of cars, the GS-4 would beat the Mallard with time to spare.
It's so bull how u say daylight has beat the fastest steam loco in the world even though mallard has a speed restriction of only 70! Sorry, but I disliked the video
@@tripwire3992ut, That's where you dont realize that America is bigger than British Country, This means the Americans can take advantage of the loading gauge and Not only that Need to create larger locomotives to Cover range and Haul more Freight and passenger trains. i like all your videos you make me laugh keep up the good work, but i got go to bed now its 11:30 at night in america, looking forward to more of your awesome videos
The Mallard is overrated. It only did 126mph because it was going down hill and it was pulling passenger cars with passengers on board. The extra weight allowed more momentum and boosted it to reach 126mph. The Mallard isn't powerful enough to reach speeds greater than 90mph under it's own power on level track. It doesn't produce enough boiler pressure or power to hold those speeds. The Daylight could reach 110mph+ easily, as it was designed specifically for speed. And it has the power to do so, and the bigger boiler and pistons allow it to produce more power and pressure, thus being able to get to speeds in excess of 100mph without any trouble. If the Daylight ran downhill like the Mallard did, the Daylight would place a new world record for fastest steam engine without a doubt. What annoys me is that people ignore the fact that the Mallard's real top speed on level track is only 90mph, while the Daylight's maximum speed on level track is 110mph. Even if Lazer Jet didn't restrict the Mallard to 70mph, the Daylight still would've won the race by miles. The Mallard literally only reached 126mph because it was going downhill when it did. I bet the Daylight could go over 140mph if it did the same thing the Mallard did to set the record, which was go downhill. The Mallard isn't the world's fastest loco, it only set the record because it went down a hill. Also take note that the Mallard broke down when it set the record, which means it wasn't even meant to go over even 100mph. The Daylight on the other hand, was designed to travel at speeds of up to 110mph. And don't you dare tell me the Mallard was designed for speeds of over 120mph, because that's not true. It's maximum speed, like stated above, was only 90mph, and that it ONLY set the record because it simply went downhill. On level track, with no hills to boost the Mallard, it would lose to the Daylight by a mile. Sorry, but American steamers can easily whoop British steamers any day they want. You can even do the research yourself. The Mallard is an LNER Class A4 type locomotive, and all of their top speeds were only 90mph, even the Mallard's. The Daylight's is 110. The Mallard only reached 126 because it was going down a hill and it had passenger cars to boost it even more. The Daylight would dominate the Mallard in any race. So for those who say the Mallard is faster than the Daylight, you need a reality check. The Mallard only reached that speed because it went down a hill while being boosted with extra weight for added momentum, thus allowing for more speed. And once again, the Mallard wasn't designed to go past even 100mph, because remember, the Mallard suffered severe damage when it set that record. 126mph is not the Mallard's real top speed.
A little bit of info for you: The engines name is not Daylight, but rather the name of the train the engine pulled. Unlike the UK the US very rarely named any of its engines. The GS-4 (the class of the engine) had a top speed of roughly 100 mph. These are not the fastest American steam engines though, as other engines such as the Milwaukee Road class A (120mph), the Pennsylvania Railroad T1 (140, unconfirmed) and the Norfolk and Western Class J (150mph! also unconfirmed, but theoretically possible) are as fast or faster. All these locomotives have full streamlining similar to the Mallard. The GS-4 class was only semi-streamlined. The GS-4 class primarily operated along the California coast, and were met with brutal grades along the southern portion of the route. As such the GS-4 was designed around tractive effort and horsepower above speed in order to make it over such steep hills. Even then they quite often required helper engines to help push them up the grades.
The A4 Pacific, mallard in particular, is to me the fastest engine ever, and there is proof. These theoretically possible or unconfirmed speed records are just a dream in my opinion.
how did america win the war you joined later when the UK was low on troops and materials and you only won the pacific war by taking the easy way and dropped the atomic bomb killing thousands of innocent citizens
Angry A4 Pacific Can we stop fighting about who is best and just admit they are both beautiful and quick engines? Seriously it really shouldn't matter which one is 'best'. Lets just agree we all love the respected engines of our countries and leave it at that please.

esref Garol that's because America is a fat country with fat people and so they need fat locomotives to go Long distances but here in the UK we have sexy locomotives because the uk is a small Country and must have small locomotives
It's a video game not real life
Its mallard not malland
ignores that the only reason you won the war with the help of us
I don't care i love both the A4 and GS-4
The A4s whistle sounds ridiculous.
The Daylights whistle sounds Just right. It sounds so beautiful.
I can't decide whose side I'm on. Lazer did say this was to get his fans back, by restricting Mallard's speed so that he can get ahead and just get fans back, but then again he did make it more fair by slowing down for Mallard and it is just a race. Reply what side you're on.
This is the MOST intense race ever :O
4449 Daylight is The Queen Of Steam, Standing 5 METRES HIGH with 2 tenders, Runs on Oil and has Whistle,Bell and Fantasticly A horn with 5,500 HORSEPOWER and 110 Mph
But It could hit 120 MPH!!!!
And 1 of My Best Favorite STEAM TRAINS EVER😆🚂🚂!!!!
not fantastic when you insult our fastest steam locomotive in England so watch what you say kid and your saying Mallard with a O ffs
Vintage steam locomotive spotter your very Ture
Vintage steam locomotive spotter I agree with you
Vintage steam locomotive spotter watch what you say kid...shes the product of a Scottish engineer.
Daylight 4499 I know...but "watch what you say *fellow adult* " sorta doesn't role of the tongue as well :p
Daylight 4499 well he’s surely acting like one, and so are you😝
you are talking about the pump car and ride it again I say YES
bad person who made this vid you set mallard to 80 thats not fair
Emma Tyler yer true
Emma Tyler very Ture
Emma Tyler Just enjoy the video. It doesn't matter who wins or loses. Its all about fun.
yeah its 71mph vs 67mph this is rigged
In fairness, the Mallard was going downhill when they broke the record, if put on even ground with a set of cars, the GS-4 would beat the Mallard with time to spare.
BORSIG DRG Class 05 002 V's Mallard would be interesting if specs were simulated accurately 🤓
Holy shit, i never realized how small Mallard is compared to Daylight; She dwarfs Mallard lmao!
biscuit but mallard is quite big in real life
Well yeah, he's just saying daylight is even bigger.
all American locomotives are very huge for good reasons. Mainly for heavy Hual and Range covering.
My fav locos
1. Daylight E9a 6051
2. SP 3194 GP9
3. SP 913 AC4400CW
4. DD40AX 6900 UP
5. SP 4449 daylight
6. SP 6402
7. Santa Fe 347C
Fillmore and western 100 F7
It's so bull how u say daylight has beat the fastest steam loco in the world even though mallard has a speed restriction of only 70! Sorry, but I disliked the video
Schuey Who wouldn't dislike the video it's all those fat Americans out there that's like ing this video
Angry A4 Gamer dude cmon on now u do know all Americans are not really from america and I'm not fat I weigh 100 pounds
its jxy "americans are not fron america" oh dear..
Angry A4 Pacific im american and im not fat :B
heck nah Union Pacific 844 was built to do 120 mph with half a mile train and can go faster so 844 would CRUSH Mallard tbh.
LaZer: "Why are we slowing down???"
Me: you must be blind to not realize your throttle is on 0%
Is it me or were America's steam train's huge and Britain's steam train's are small
It is not you
The Flash its not you
Lil Bussey Nope American steam trains are giants.
Trains are supposed to be small so that they don't consume alot more fuel than necessary, and Britain invented the steam train
@@tripwire3992ut, That's where you dont realize that America is bigger than British Country, This means the Americans can take advantage of the loading gauge and Not only that Need to create larger locomotives to Cover range and Haul more Freight and passenger trains.
Trains aren't meant to be small depending on what country you are in. Especially when it comes to America.
Why did you cut off the intro at the beginning?
I love the daylight
Marie Doskocil same
British Locos are better, they don’t have bulky designs like the American locos, but o respect your opinion
Marie Doskocil got all lot of them in my house lol
Marie Doskocil the daylight belongs to southern pacific and its number is 4449
Brian Mangay-ayam 4449 isnt the only Daylight steamer. they had a bunch of northerns and some pacifics hauled the San Joaquin Daylight.
you should make your next slope vid with thomas and friends characters
Can you do Daylight vs the Union Pacific Bigboy?
i like all your videos you make me laugh keep up the good work, but i got go to bed now its 11:30 at night in america, looking forward to more of your awesome videos
ok man Stay cool!
gosh,i have to go to bed at 10:30
The Mallard is overrated.
The Red Wolf thanks for the info
FuntimeFreddy andBonBon
no problem
The Red Wolf you are just wasting your time writing down that piece of shit
Angry A4 Gamer
Well that "piece of shit" i wrote down is just pure facts.
The Red Wolf you only looked it up online
Lazerjet Do a triple header race challenge Union Pacific Bigboy and Challenger and 844 vs Flying Scotman and Tornado and Mallard
the problem American trains are bloody heavy and mallard has streamlining that actually works
Good reasons why they are quite large and Heavy.
Daylight is fav train also love the liberation that's the white blue and red version
Daylight!, your slow, need my help, I can double head with you so you can try to beat Mallard.
I might just help for the hell of it!
Hi hi I’m your friend and I can do it if you like it
Fef-3 #844 I Gotta disagree with you there because Daylight is operated at 110 mph thats not slow. Mallard Can only do 90 Mph On A Flat Surface.
@@locomotivesteam9334 Mallard can actually acheive 115 on a flat straight
And can you make daylight vs mallard to crash into? Too!
I'm American but I don't like you because I like British steam trains and you put a handicap on Mallard (I actually like your videos).
you won,not lose my friend ship
Britain has better trains, America has better planes.
no lie there
bellcc2 Best thing I've ever heard
Jahan Leito face it dumb American UK trains are better
bellcc2 and America Has better cars
bellcc2 *cough* *cough* dc10 *cough* *cough*
A little bit of info for you:
The engines name is not Daylight, but rather the name of the train the engine pulled.
No American vs English! They're both good! Don't offend them! This is technically racist! If you carry on with AvsE I will unsub!
HydesR01 we already beat the British in a war I guess it would be mean to keep beating them
Ya Boi Max fuck u britain ended ww2
Russia won WWII, I'm an american but, you still have to give Russia a bit of acknowledgement.
how did america win the war you joined later when the UK was low on troops and materials and you only won the pacific war by taking the easy way and dropped the atomic bomb killing thousands of innocent citizens
HydesR01 Ture
It's like an underdog versus the heavyweight champ.
Are you calling the Mallard the UNDERDOG?
MALLARD IS THE FASTEST HE JUST RIGGED IT SO DAYLIGHT COULD WIN
i unsubscribe UK is not rubbish you know you just set the speed to 80 man!!!!
xslash _official yah that's the only reason the UK won last time
Thats soooo true the mallard on the real video goes about 140 miles per hour
xslash _official I
xslash _official very very true
xslash _official booooooooooooooooooooooo
may i ask what are the keys for Daylights horn?
go day light
ive seen the daylight irl with 2 amtrak heritage units and private coaches
But Mallard is best!!!
Nahhhh
Can't you see the day light is more wow but mallard oh its fast so its that and day light is bigger then mallard
And day light is the best!!!!
Angry A4 Pacific Can we stop fighting about who is best and just admit they are both beautiful and quick engines? Seriously it really shouldn't matter which one is 'best'. Lets just agree we all love the respected engines of our countries and leave it at that please.
Um why does mallard sound like a truck?
Daylight and the flying scotsman are my fav
That intro made my heart go Pitter Patter
Can you do a video with them going from Manchester to Bedford
