    I tested the spark cab out with a few different sources - small analog amp (non-powered), digital pedalboard, and of course spark amps. This cab is a really great piece of gear!

    60 year guitarists here. owned it all 4x :) i bought a spark go 2 days ago. plugged it into my HR 108 and have been playing ever since. ,my spark was really bright so i added an eq pedal between it and the HR. killed the irritating frequencies. i had read that the spark was bassy but mine was not. i had zero probs getting it all to work and it pairs with my phone perfectly. i play mostly satriani tunes so the sustained lead is where i live. i found that the american hi-gain is the ticket for me. just ordered the footswitch. with a bit of tweeking it sounds just as good as my tonex,helix,etc. i cannot imagine how they can sell this quality of tones for this price.

    I am also experiencing , along with many people , a constant 50 db white/brown noise floor when measured 6 inches from grill cloth that is present regardless of whether a Spark 40 is connected or nothing is connected . None of the UA-cam reviewers are mentioning it in their reviews . Darrell , did experience this ?

    I did not hear the Spark Cab hum in your video that I'm experiencing with mine and so many are posting about and being told it's normal. I have tube and solid state amps that are quite or have very little noise. This is just an observation. Anyway, I've been watching your channel (subscribed) for years. Appreciate everything you share with us. Cheers to you Darrell!!!

    As a teacher visiting schools the Spark is perfect. I have even used it for bass in a school production. I cannot ever see myself using it live. It's not that i don't like digital, I recently bought a Blackstar Amped 2 to save my back. I just feel the Spark is better as a full range speaker / modeller.

    It would be really interesting to see if Bias FX2 mobile with the Riff (plugged into the power output to charge it) would work. That way we see if we could actually use the Tones we prepared in the desktop version and uploaded to the cloud with with the pedals and amps of choice, etc..and take it to the real world.

    You know, I hadn't played my Spark in quite while until last weekend. I got a new strat (a daphne blue '62 avri) and updated the firmware on the Spark as well as updated the app and it sounds noticeably better. Before it was too dark or muffled, too much bass. But it sounds a tad brighter and it's really a great little amp and I use it primarily with headphones at nice. They couldn't have made a more user friendly platform with this thing and it's endless options. The dumble-esque amp REALLY sounds good. That one was the sweet spot with my new strat! Anyway, I might look into this cab, although I don't really have a use for one, it looks really really nice!

    I know this has probably been said before but 2 features I wish Positive Grid would add to their Spark application is being able to use different types of speakers/cabinets within the app itself since they have already came out with this new speaker cabinet and also adding the BIAS FX/BIAS Amp 2 into the app like they have before in their previous apps but maybe they will in the near future. I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t add those features to the Spark amp since this new cabinet has came out unless I’m missing something lol but who knows, time will tell.

    Spark Cab sounds good. My dilemma, my amp will output XLR (DI) to an FRFR like this Spark Cab or regular amp output to 8 ohm cab. I know there's pro and cons to either, I'm just not settled yet which is ideal for me today. I rarely use a speaker these days, doing mostly recording the DI so either way I want to keep the cost low. There are some good 12" cabs with at low prices. Whereas FRFR cabs are pricey though this Spark Cab seems reasonable. For garage/venue a 8ohm cab is best, but for working with mix boards the FRFR is, but I could end up either way that rare time.

    Recently got the Spark 40 and love it! Great for both guitar and bass, great for both home practice and small practice sessions with friends. It wouldn't keep up with a drummer though (especially when I'm playing bass), so I'm considering eventually buying the Cab for it (there's no big hurry though as I don't currently have any gigs). Hoping they eventually make the Cab in white/pearl too, as my Spark 40 is white, it would look perfect!

I can use my phone to search thousands of tones from Slayer to Stevie Ray Vaughn and then set them as physical button presets on the amp or favorite them on the app for later. It's easy to make your own tones too but I never do lol. I'd buy another right now if mine died.

    The only thing holding me back from using my Spark 40 and purchasing a Spark Cab for large venues is the fact the Spark EQ and Modulation cannot be used separately in the same Preset/Tone. If PG created a SPARK software update with separate EQ and Modulation I would purchase a Spark Cab. I play Rock, Pop, Funk and Ballads with a weekend gigging band so I use a variety of Tones. I don’t find it practical or effective to add an external EQ as I use different EQ settings for different Tones. Until then or if it ever happens I will continue using my high end Guitar Effects Processor. But keeping my fingers crossed that it may happen some day.🤞

    Darrel, here’s a topic for you. Which type of cabinet is louder, sealed or open back. You could test this with two cabs or a convertible cab and if you use two cabs, use the same speaker in both. I’ve heard that sealed cabinets project the sound better, but an open cab can provide a bigger radiating effect when positioned in a room properly.

    Is this rugged enough to travel around to gigs, sessions, jams etc.? The input, aux, and power connections on my Spark 40 have all shorted or failed in some way, so my impression is that Positive Grid's general build quality is not up for regular use/wear and tear. Although it sounds great for what it is, I have come to consider the Spark 40 more of a cool toy than a reliable piece of gear.

    My Spark 40 all of a sudden stopped working. When I have a guitar plugged in, it has no sound output. Weirdly, it still works perfectly fine as a Bluetooth speaker. Seems like a pretty common issue since I gave seen several other people experiencing the same thing.
    Pretty disappointed since I didn't even use it that much and it is already broken. Unfortunately it is out of warranty too, so I'm basically stuck with a Bluetooth speaker that I paid hundreds of dollars for. Won't be getting anything else from Positive Grid because of their poor QA.

      Contact help and support. They can replace it for a cost, although challenging them that it’s unacceptable is worth pursuing.
      Here’s what their email actually says - “Upon checking your issue, we've verified your unit as out-of-warranty, please note that a fee of 60 USD is needed for the process.” The process means a new replacement. Of course, it would need postage adding on. All details are provided in the email from their support.

      You can sorta EQ this out of course (getting it off the ground helps too), but the speaker is not even remotely close to flat in frequency response. Likely the PG Cab will sound better than the Headrush unit, but that is not saying much.

    I have a Spark 40 and am thinking about the cab. The only thing about the 40 is the fact that even with all it's innovation, they didn't build a looper system in it. To me, that would be the ultimate. Instead of introducing smaller and smaller amps why not come out with something similar to the 40 with that looper system built in. Call it the "40plus" maybe. I would buy it.

    • @jasonswitzer1748
      @jasonswitzer1748 6 місяців тому

      I 100% agree with you. The lack of a looper is the one thing holding me back from getting a Spark. Side note… why the heck is fender not in this space? I know they have their little Mustang GT20s or whatever it’s called, but it doesn’t work with the a fender Tone app, and I don’t think it has a looper either. To me, a looper is a no brainer. I wonder if it’s just software based? If so, they could add the feature to current Spark owners and generate some goodwill. If they ever make a Spark 40+ or whatever they’d call it, I’d like a looper, a wired 4 or 7 button foot switch (the wireless one should be comparable… just make that optional), and perhaps even a wireless system to compete with the katana air. Find a way to undercut the Katana Air and they would sell a million of these things.

    • @donrepcon7704
      @donrepcon7704 6 місяців тому +2

      @@jasonswitzer1748 The XSONIC footswitch can add a looper to the Spark but I want to research it a little more. Also, since we are on the subject of a Spark 40+, they should add a second input jack. That would make a great unit. I would most definitely sell my 40 and get a 40+. With the cabinet added this would make a great system. Do you think Positive Grid would build that?

      @@donrepcon7704 no idea if PG would build it, but it seems like they’d be crazy not too. The Boss Katana and Yamaha offer wireless options, as does NUX, while NUX offers a built in looper. I don’t think any of the current desktop amps offer two input jacks, not I could be wrong on that, but it would be cool if someone did.

    I love my Spark 40 and Mini for practice but I can't imagine using them for gigging. Not because of how loud it is or how it sounds. It just wasn't built with features for gigging. There are a lot better options for gigging at $500(Spark and Cab). I'm sure it will be a huge success anyway!

    • @jasonswitzer1748

    • @scottakam
      @scottakam 6 місяців тому

      @@jasonswitzer1748 you need to be able to control everything with your feet which you can't really do even with an add on pedal. More than 4 presets. Floor tuner. Control multiple effects with 1 switch. Expression/volume pedal. Setlists. If you look at something like a Pod Go or HX Stomp, you will see dozens of gigging features that the Spark doesn't have. No shame for the Spark. It was built to be a practice amp and it's great for that. It has lots of practice features that other amps don't have.

    Is it too bassy? Ola Englund said it was even with a different mfx unit. He thought it was how the cab was made. You mentioned how the Spark 40 was bass-heavy. I wouldn't want another speaker that carried over this issue, since my Spark 40 is also way too bassy.

    Just got mine yesterday. And I have to say, I am somewhat disappointed with this review.
    The base noise level when switched on with all knobs turned to zero is a bit high for my taste. But more importantly, the bass response is drastically different from the Spark 40 itself. Even with stuffed bass reflex tubes (the front is velcroed on), this cabinet is *far too boomy for a guitar amp.* Most amps are *open* on the back of the cab to avoid this exact problem.
    This means that I cannot use clean profiles with a bit of low frequency on both speaker systems. Given the limitations of the tone stack, the only option to fix this problem is really the 6 band EQ in the Spark app, which eats up your MOD section of the signal chain, so you cannot use choruses or flangers any more. And even then, you have to change the settings every time you change the cab.
    I would expect limitations like this to be *mentioned* in a well-rounded product test.

    It's not my thing. If I really want to play guitar in a band context I would buy me a proper amp and a good cabinet, because you need a solid and good sound. If I only play guitar for practicing, it could be an option... it also depends on the type of music you want to play.
