This is truly wonderful technology. If you’re a beginner in 2024, a nice Squier custom Vibe strat, Spark Go and this cab, plus your phone and there’s nothing you can’t do
You all have to remember that the reason it sound like a box is because this is not a cab, is a stage monitor with the shape of a cab, for me, this is great, but is impossible to review over the internet, go to a store and try it, you are not supposed to put a mic in front of an Impulse response like this, but there is just no other way to show this off in youtube.
Canadian viewer here. I'm definitely going the Spark route for the low volume playing im restricted to. I've been watching your videos for some time now. Hands down my go-to source for fueling my guitar addiction. Just wish I was able to see the Andertons shop in person. Bucket list trip for sure!
seriously positive grid nailed it with this, being able to use ANY of the spark amps with this is great. the price is just a little lower then a lot of FRFR cabs so its pretty decent indeed
This is priced perfectly - so much better value than the alternatives. Still might be better going for a Katana 50 mk2 but this is clearly rated at a higher output.
@@CG-rf6nu Having used Katanas since they were released, I second that they are such a great option. But, If someone has a floor unit, has everything set up within that, and doesn't want to use an actual amp, the Spark Cab is a great shout.
I need that FRFR cab, I love my SPARK for headphone bedroom practice and learning songs at my desk. I hate having to go the whole way down stairs to the full rig setup to play at volume...also nice that playing at volume doesn't always have to shake the whole house like my Bassbreaker does.
Exactly my experience. My nephew has the new cab through his spark 40. In my studio room, I have a Blackstar Amped2 through a 2x12” a Laney vc15 and a Roland blues cube artist. The spark cab is sooo bass heavy. It misses key features not having a an eq/hi pass on the cab to tune in to a room.
I bought a Spark Mini from Andertons about 6 months ago, and it's great. It's perfect from what I need, and it's loud enough for the house. The tone definitely seems to be improved with the cab though.
Positive grid needs to just already release a spark floor modeler, I love positive grids iOS and pc software, especially through the speakers of my choice. Ive done the interface and iPad rig for a while, be nice to see a stand alone floor modeler.
Yep. I use Bias FX 2 on an iPad connected via Leo Audio midi controller going into a Headrush 8” FRFR. I’d love for PG to just make their own bias FX floor board.
Last week I received the PG CAB and I was disappointed! I got the PG Mini in spring 23 and it's awesome! Since then I'm jamming every single day along with endless backing tracks I found in the www. It's soooo much fun cause it's sounds fantastic. The guitar-sound fits perfect to the backing tracks. With other gear I always had that feeling that the guitar sounds cheap and loses it's tonal character. Now it sounds like a recorded guitar amp and you can hear clearly the difference between a strat or a hollowbody. What a great gear! It brought me back to guitar and I spent so many hours with it since it came to my house. - Now came the PG CAB and my expectations were high. When I plugged in I was really disappointed! The backing track sounded distorted and the guitar cheap and annoying. I had the volume of the cab at full... Then I turned it back to half and it sounded great. It sounds good up to 3/4. Erverything above is not acceptable. My conclusion: I'm still a little bit disappointed. It's not as loud as I thought it would be with 140 W on board and it's far away to use it in a band context. I can not use the whole volume range cause everything above 3/4 sounds crappy. And there's a constant humming when you turn the unit on... I should mention that it looks great . But in comparison to the PG Mini Amp it stays way behind (soundwise). This one really blews me away!
you need to turn your contour switch OFF at higher volumes, on at lower volumes. You also can't have the spark volume too loud as its acting as a digital preamp and will distort. It does not like to be driven like a tube amp.
It's Watts plus speaker sensitivity and cabinet design. FRFR designs tend to have lower sensitivity to achieve the flat response, especially in such a small box. The extreme example is bookshelf hifi speakers which don't even have much bass response below 100Hz but rarely have a sensitivity above 90dB at 1W, 1m. 140W into a typical 1x12 guitar speaker you'd need need almost 1000W RMS to replicate on a bookshelf speaker! You're slightly better looking at the maximum SPL rating which is 117dB at 1m for the Spark Cab. Take that with a pinch of salt as it doesn't mention the frequency sampling standard or power amp distortion level for that measurement. Something like a Vox AC30 should pump out about 115dB. So it's going to be roughly as loud as that playing an AC30 patch emulating power tube compression as you'll want to leave about 3dB of headroom on the Spark. If you add a second one it should gain you about 6dB if placed correctly relative to the first. I primarily play bass and I consider my amp plus one 1x15 cab just about enough to be safe at a small to moderate gig (anything bigger should have FOH support) and that's 122dB max. So that's two Spark Cabs. Maybe one on something small, if I went the FRFR route. My amp plus one cab weigh 35lbs together, so two Spark Cabs are the heavier option. If I wanted to play with something other than bass the Spark might sound better even given my amp and cabs are fairly flat response.
Metallica went digital already and is in the last Rick beato conversation with kirk. Tube amps with the "in the room" sound are beautiful and irreplaceable, but the convenience of a digital processor on tour is something that will be popular as well. I think you should have both, a valve amp with attenuator at home/studio and a digital rig for the stage and touring, maybe a blend/capture of your own amps and a good IR from the cabs you own or like, that is the perfect combination.
Being able to pick from hundreds of digital cabs on the fly is much easier than carrying them into the venue... lol. Tube amps are great for practice, or home jam. It's really hard to find a place and a reason to carry them around over a digital setup anymore. Big, heavy, much more difficult to maintain, hard to find people who know how to work on them, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love tube amps, I just think they're going away unfortunately. However the replacement is just as good, if not better than the original. I'm sure if you showed these to Leo Fender, or Jim Marshall they'd lose their minds lol.
I'd argue it's great for a home studio as well. If you spend time dialing in a good clean amp platform you can track great sounding guitar with your existing pedalboard and plenty of headroom without bothering your neighbors. Great way to get a variety of tones with a small desktop amp that can jack right into your interface.
I live in the States and I ordered two Spark Cabs. I'm sitting at home right now, waiting for the first one to be delivered. I ordered them a day apart and they shipped them a day apart. :)
I received one a few days ago, and the 1st thing I was struck by was how noisy it is with volume off, sounding like an air conditioner..I informed positive grid of this and they say that it's normal for high powered amps, I have a 1500w pa that's more than 10yrs old and sometimes have to check its light is on when everything else is powered off as it's been left on all night on a few occasions. Positive grid say they will get back to me as they're busy with lots of calls on their support team for spark cab... waiting to hear about others with this problem.
Same problem here. Frustrating. To send it back will cost you $15 USD but it might but the thing to do unless you can live with it, but it's pretty noticeable. It's not something I expected from the demos I watched.
Even with UA-cam audio compression I think that cab is definitely suited to a matched spark amp. The other unit on the floor beside Pete,to my ears sounded awful(probably not tweaked for a dialled in Sound)
So glad you demonstrated the amp with a SS. Every demo so far is playing a DH. This way you can hear how this combo sounds with different genres and not just metal. Cheers
I've been rocking the same Spider IV 75 for about 12 years (give or take), and I've been using pretty much the same 5 or 6 tones to play EVERY song. I have a Boss GT10 footpedal, but as diverse as that is, it's just clunky to use so lives in a drawer and doesn't see the light of day. Seeing the Positive Grid Spark app, and knowing I can just look up a specific song/artist and play almost identical tones IMMEDIATELY, I couldn't resist a rig overhaul. I'm getting the Spark for Christmas to sit primarily on my desk in my Home Office and, provided I have an excellent experience, I'll get the CAB in a few months to sit upstairs with the guitars for when I feel like permanently deafening myself. Based on this, I reckon Reverb will be seeing a GT10 and a Spider IV 75 in a few months time...
I still love my Katana 100 MKII… but I will say that Spark nailed it with the software for the user. I wish BOSS would maybe update their software and make it more streamlined. I’m a visual learner and I appreciate the Spark UI
using the valeton gp200 into this is exactly what i plan on doing for a cabin getaway trip for bassist, or use my spark 40 as a head. its so versatile being a frfr. didnt even think about buying a second for stereo usage, thanks for that idea. got mine 2 days ago and it sounds great!
A correction at 19 mins Pete, you can't plug a mic into it and get anything useful as the volume is extremely low when plugging a mic directly into it. It would probably need an external mixer to get any volume from a vocal mic and it only works from an audio signal coming from an external device. Another useful thing is that the spark input also works fine from a 3.5mm audio cable from any mp3 type device.
I just got the Live and my buddy has a Cab and we used the Spark40 on the Cab and the Live. If you only use it for Guitar and I would say you like a deluxe reverb sound the Cab sounds much better then the Live. The Cab sounds more open and the 10inch speaker blows more air. The Live is made to do a lot of things and it sounds really good I don’t wanna diss it but in direct compare to the Cab the Cab sounds more like an Amp while the Live sounds especially when on low volume it sounds more close in was actually disappointing.
Yes, I have that too. Already opened a ticket at PG, but they are saying this is normal and to be expected. But none of the reviews is mentioning it, so I am kinda wondering if the cabs they send to reviewers are not quite what everyone else gets, or if PG told the reviewers: Don't mention the hum.
im waiting on a spark 40 to arrive today. i bought it mostly for the app, wanted to try it out and see if i like it. if i do like it i could see myself picking up the cab later. if i dont like it im going to return it and get a catalyst 60.
Spark 2 has looper and is rechargeable 😮hope you guys do video of that with cab / without also Spark live 150w is rechargeable with sold separate batterie, but no looper feature 😢 they missed huge feature there 😮
Couldn't you do this with any powered speaker? For instance my Behringer 18 inch PA speakers? That doesn't have the contour button, but through a mixer you would have much more control.
The point of the Spark and things like it is to play quietly, to be convenient with built in effects, and to sound basically OK for practice. For somebody who wants or needs to get into 90db+ like practice with others, maybe even with drums, small gigs, ect it seems like getting a decent quality smallish amp would make a lot more sense than dumping more money into mediocre practice device to simply make mediocre louder.
Totally with you - I got my catalyst 200 2x12 for 300 quid mint in box. Im not convinced this is the point though, im thinking its intended to primarily be an frfr competitor at a good price for home practice with other modellers. The ability to plug in the spark is simply a positive (pun intended) Especially if you started learning guitar with the go - it gives you an upgrade path to a full (digital) rig
I've played plenty of amps and wouldn't really call the tones I've dialed into my Spark amps mediocre. It takes tinkering to get great sounding tones but they are absolutely present in many forms.
@@aphotosyntheticworld couldnt give an opinion never heard them in person. If they are anything like my thr10ii then i believe you - there is a difference between « tube amp like » and « bad »
Have you ever owned a spark? Mediocre tones my ass. If you get it set up correctly and know a little about eq these things wail. There are a lot of good, useful presets on the tonecloud where people have already done this for you.
@coletonbelew6475 Have you ever owned a really good tube amp? And I don't mean a Blues Junior, or a Hot Rod, or some equivalent mid level Marshall. By mediocre I'm not saying it sounds horrible, a good player can/ should get pretty decent sounds out of just about anything, I'm simply saying that it lacks something compared to a really quality tube amp and as one heads in the direction of $1000 I think for some people it might be worth it to go a bit nicer still.
I didn’t hear you guys comment on the “brown” sound/hum many Sparkers are noting. Any thoughts on this (or did your evaluation unit not produce a hum when turned on?)?
Just as a point for the Andertons video guys to note; You need to clarify it has to be public subscribers to be in with a chance to win the klon or anything else. Simply being subscribed cannot get you in the draw as there is no possible way to see the not public subscribers.
Can you explain that a bit more ? I have no idea what this is about - I subbed years ago but there's no option to do a 'public sub' or whatever. Cheers.
Yes , Can you clarify this please as I am not understanding the difference , I have been subscribed for years , Did not know there was more than one way to be a subscriber.
Its in your own channel settings. If it isnt set to public in your own account nobody can see who your subscribed too. The fact you both asked to clarify is exactly why i mentioned andertons should say it.
@@Paul-D Cheers for that - it's the first I've ever heard of it. Think I prefer to keep my privacy though lol, and I have far FAR too much gear already to care that much about a 'prize'. Also I've still not forgiven them over the rocky strat debacle. But still, thanks for the info 👍
Thank you so much for that , I had no idea , I would suggest neither do many others. Certainly needed to brought to the fore so people can make an informed decision to choose between Privacy or Prizes. 👍🙏
Has anyone tried this with a Helix or an HX Stomp yet? I would be curious to know if this would work for at home use of HX. Just for a bit of jamming, tone-seeking and such. And still look nice in the living room.
Well, I haven't tried this at all but some hopefully thoughts for you to consider with this cab: - specs and theoretically, as shown here with the GP200, anything with XLR/combo input will work. It's just and amplified FRFR cabinet. - that said, for sure, PG with all of these Spark products has kinda chosen to go with a more bass biased sound signature. That was the case with the OG Spark 40, then the Mini and even to a limited extend the tiny Go. That kind of tuning is pretty understandable for the core purpose for those products which will be for home practice as desktop practice amps. That kind of fuller, bottom end tone is just pleasing to most everyone. But in a mix with a live band, that kind of sound signature is going to be problematic. - So I would think that with things like the GP200, Helix, HX Stomp, whatever digital mfx unit, it might be useful to tweak your presets a bit in terms of the low end you've set, especially if you want to run through this cab or even similar FRFR cabs that may have their own kind of tuning signature. Not judging this at all. Just throwing out some objective observations - I'm an OG Spark 40 and while I do think that overall, it is still the "best" desktop practice amp on the market in terms of price, features and performance. Nothing can touch the OG Spark 40 in terms of price - tones - features. Cheers and good luck! I'm sure this cab can sound pretty great with the input presets tweaked for the right purposes. :D
I've tried this with a Neural Quad Cortex, it can be bloody loud - but it's pretty lightweight, small and a fairly standard FRFR as it goes. It tends to be a bit 'boomier' on the bass side when using overdriven tones but otherwise I'm quite impressed.
Portability… this is designed to jam with a full band. The other guitarist in our jam band thought he could bring his 40w Spark amp and it would work with a full band 🤣. Bass player, full drum kit and my 100w MKII Katana
Don't stop playing in between the change. Start playing and just keep playing while he engages the cab. It'll be easier to hear the difference if it changes right in the middle of a note or riff.
Okay, if you put the mic in front of the mini it would also sound better. That mic is too far from the mini speaker to get a realistic idea of how it sounds, but I get the concept. I have the mini and it's fun, but it's not great. I can see the cab working with other modellers even better.
Oh you guys I love my Valeton GP 200, with my Headrush FRFR 1x12 wish I knew about Spark cab I only got Headrush it 6 months ago. The new Spark live is it an FRFR? Anyone know? I have the NUX MIGHTY SPACE it’s a great desk top beats the Spark 40 by miles but I’m gonna get the Spark 2 has a looper and beats the MIGHTY SPACE there.
Huh I had no idea this came out. I have the spark still even though I never use it. Bought to help my kid learn but he’s not using it. So would this make the spark a real amp now and would I also be able to use it as my cab for my Helix floor ?
Please correct me if I'm wrong but with the Spark Go can I go headphone out to my Joyo Bantamp Bluejay hooked up to my Celestion V30 in a cab? Would that work? The Bantamp Bluejay is a very clean amp. Appreciate any feedback. Thing is I really only want the benefit of the amps, effects and jamming features from the PG Spark Go which is why I dont see the need to get the 40 or even the mini if I can amplify the Go as described above. Cheers.
I’m never going to play in a band. I have a lot of $, but very little time. Sometimes I want to plug in and have the tone’s ready. Eric Johnson, done. John Mayer, done. Peter Green, ready. All within 3 minutes. I don’t have the time to tweak. For this reason, positive grid is perfect. Do I really sound like John Mayer? Of course not. But neither does the guy with the Fender Reverb who’s probably cringing right now.
Spark live? I don’t think so. Have a HeadRush Prime I could use the cab, but it’s more a look for a practice amp. I am currently using my Spark 40 as a soundbar for my 4KTV. Until I bought the pedalboard I was using the Spark 40 as my practice amp.
I can't agree. I've never heard an FRFR cab that sounds "real". A real amp/real guitar speaker is part of the instrument. The guitar speaker is responsible for a lot of the tone in the room. Imagine listening to a beautiful singer playing piano in the same room as you. From the piano's harp and the singer's vocal cords directly to your ears. Now imagine that singer/pianist in another room, miced up and played back over an FRFR cab. That's what we're talking about here. It's not real. It's not in the room.
Nux Mighty Space plugged into a real cab with all the IR stuff turned off is far better than this FRFR stuff. I sold my Spark and bought a Mighty Space just for the speaker out jack.
🤔 Fender Fighter have 3 Channels and bluetooth with EQ and Vol. in each channels. Same 10" Speaker, but Fender have 12" model. Spark CAB only have one Vol. for everything. Spark CAB lower price only.

Spark 40 into my PA is like mini Woodstock in my back yard!
I love it when the Captain plays us out.
Pete is tapped in man...the best
Recent editing has been 🔥 bravo
I love these videos, thanks guys. I buy from you whenever possible.
Definitely getting 2. Lol my spark 40 is the most fun ive had with an amp in a long long time. (Im new to modeling technology.)
One serie "Desktop Amps Gig" please. This is so interesting. Play your loved sound in the room and live.
PS- I have a spark 40 and I love it.
I noticed for all your sample presets none of them used the equalizer. That's how you control the issue with too much or not enough bass.
Good comment.
i've been watching your channel since 2013
would love to see a shootout now w/ this and the new Fender one included
I'd love to see a comparo with this product with others, such as Headrush, etc.
Could you use it with United Audio amp pedals? If so can you demonstrate it. 👊🏻
I have this setup it’s my stadium show rig 😆
Every Andertons video with these two should include a Danish Pete loop!
I absolutely love you and your videos and the gear you selland I want to work for you and that's my dream! :) Thank you for all the sounds! :)
The Positive Grid Spark Cab Is In Stock Now! | tinyurl.com/ykkutfpm
I think you would have to create cab specific patches.
did you guys experience the noise floor issue we're getting with the pre-orders?
For the same price (or less) you can get a Katana for your small gigs and have the little amp stay at home. Just a thought
Wonder what a Fender Tone Master Pro would sound like piped into that?
If i wanted loud id use my BOSS Katana MkII 100. I just got the spark cab because it looks amazing with my spark 40! Oh its pretty loud too!
Does it sound good?
Are you hearing noise when there is no signal? Mine is quite noisy. Not a hum, more like the sound of a fan.
Yes, getting a loud "white noise" sound, even when it's on zero.
I ❤ it
The point of the Spark and things like it is to play quietly, to be convenient with built in effects, and to sound basically OK for practice.
The ability to plug in the spark is simply a positive (pun intended)
Especially if you started learning guitar with the go - it gives you an upgrade path to a full (digital) rig
Cause I did things normal and just like all my friends
But now I'm positive and life - it all ends
Name that band
biohazard
Well, maybe something for smurfs?
"Honey I shrunk the children ( Lee n Pete) and painted the blue" 😊
Looks cool and is a cool idea, but it sounds distant to me? Probably partly due to the UA-cam?
Sounds beautiful, so cheap too, insane
Be honest WHY didn't they build or release another one along side this which has the Spark AMP tech inside the CAB getting an all in one?
They've done it ;)
I wonder if you can connect a Fender Mustang Micro Headphone Amp.
Sure. The input jack is actually optimised for headphone level because that’s the output Sparks have.
bedroom guitaris? busking? small gig? They have you covered
Just as a point for the Andertons video guys to note;
You need to clarify it has to be public subscribers to be in with a chance to win the klon or anything else.
How this one compare to Headrush FRFR? Is this better?
That’s a cracking idea! well done Spark
Remember hearing once that there is only one manufacturer of tolex for amps and cases.
Has anyone tried this with a Helix or an HX Stomp yet? I would be curious to know if this would work for at home use of HX. Just for a bit of jamming, tone-seeking and such. And still look nice in the living room.
Well, I haven't tried this at all but some hopefully thoughts for you to consider with this cab:
- specs and theoretically, as shown here with the GP200, anything with XLR/combo input will work.
This or Katana MK2 100W ?
If it’s flat response why not get a good Studio Monitors instead? Such as Yamaha HS8?
Portability… this is designed to jam with a full band. The other guitarist in our jam band thought he could bring his 40w Spark amp and it would work with a full band 🤣. Bass player, full drum kit and my 100w MKII Katana
Don't stop playing in between the change. Start playing and just keep playing while he engages the cab. It'll be easier to hear the difference if it changes right in the middle of a note or riff.
How does this sound compared to the new Fender Tonemaster cabs?
I like that Ibanez
Okay, if you put the mic in front of the mini it would also sound better. That mic is too far from the mini speaker to get a realistic idea of how it sounds, but I get the concept. I have the mini and it's fun, but it's not great. I can see the cab working with other modellers even better.
Universal Audio LEON PLEEEASEE
The only thing I want to know is if I get a Vox AC30 with the Ruby connected…or with the Fender Tonemaster FRS ;-)
Oh you guys I love my Valeton GP 200, with my Headrush FRFR 1x12 wish I knew about Spark cab I only got Headrush it 6 months ago. The new Spark live is it an FRFR? Anyone know? I have the NUX MIGHTY SPACE it’s a great desk top beats the Spark 40 by miles but I’m gonna get the Spark 2 has a looper and beats the MIGHTY SPACE there.
how do you make sure a modeler isnt clipping when using the cab? Line 6 Powercab has a light indicator for clipping
Friedman IR-X for the win 🏆
I play mine through a katana 50 when I need more vol sounds fantastic.. And cheaper than the cab ❤
The Katana does quite well on its own also!
"We apologise for the crackly lavalier mic!"
Bro, get Izotope RX10 Advanced and fix that in post! You're a music store. You can afford that.
Cheers.
I mean I used to gig with a Fender GDEC 15 so like anything is possible
Any idea if PG are going to release a cab in Pearl?
What is the spec of the lead between the Spark and Speaker? Is it a standard headphone lead? If not, where can you get spares?
I’m never going to play in a band. I have a lot of $, but very little time. Sometimes I want to plug in and have the tone’s ready. Eric Johnson, done. John Mayer, done. Peter Green, ready. All within 3 minutes. I don’t have the time to tweak. For this reason, positive grid is perfect.
Do I really sound like John Mayer? Of course not. But neither does the guy with the Fender Reverb who’s probably cringing right now.
What is the floor pedal you guys are using for this?
Do you need to use another amp to use your guitar with the cab? Or could i just buy a cab and ittl work with my guitar straight up?
can i directly line in from the computer to play backing tracks?
Where can I get the digital sound level meter in the background? How’s the accuracy on it?
