I don't think many people understand how remarkable the music production on this track is! Many think her voice (which is exceptional*) is the main-stay...but the production, downmixing, compression, and composition is a beast!!!! Dang!!!
One of those absolute writing-and-production classics of the mid-80s that didn't make it onto the supermarket playlists - you won't hear this today unless you seek it out. I had never seen the video before now, but it's absolutely brilliant artistic work as well. The main part of the song is so cheery, but the beginning and the end are so dark, and the videography really captures that... intense stuff. Written by Michael W. Smith & Wayne Kirkpatrick, with a spellbinding performance by Amy.
Amy Grant is without a doubt one of the most beautiful, genuine people on earth. I have seen her in concert twice and adored every moment. She pours her soul into everything she performs. This song is one of my favorites that doesn't get enough recognition. Her music is so cleanly produced. It gets inside you. Amy, you're the best!

I’m sitting on my couch with my precious 16-year-old longhair dachshund named Edie (Eee-Dee, not Eddie). She is dying from heart disease and renal failure. We’ve made the incredibly painful decision to end her misery tomorrow afternoon. Until then, we are spending as much time as possible with her, doing her favorite things. She loves sitting in our laps, and as she sat with me just now, the lyrics to this song came to me and I knew I had to share them with her. I thank God for all the beauty and joy she has brought into the life of my family. She’s a beloved member of our family, and she’s a better soul than most humans I know. I am the most flawed and backsliding Christian ever, but I believe my Edie will go to Heaven as she crosses the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow afternoon. Thank you, Amy Grant, for creating this little gem of a song that has helped me smile through my tears. God bless.❤️
it is unique how this song and many of Amy Grant's songs seem to reach out to the moments in our life like a snapshot. For me, Amy was the true first Christian Contemporary Artist singer I heard...and I was moved by the song I heard. And after all these years, though I didn't listen to much of her "Pop" stuff...(yet how could you not hear it being played everywhere)...the words to her songs are moving, uniquely hers, artfully portrayed through her talent and wonderful voice. A beautiful voice from the past: The 80's and 90's.
This and several other songs of hers brought me a lot of peace during desert storm. And yes, the backup vocals are Richard Page: the lead singer for Mr. Mister.

Beautiful song from a beautiful singer. The year 1986 was a memorable year, sophomore in college, Reagan was president, just a nice time. Missed those 1980’s moments.

takes me back to my sophomore and junior years of high school... listening to it in 2012 does make think its 1987/1988 all over again... the people loved and lost...
Wow -- she looks gorgeous here!! I read she experienced lots of emotional turmoil in the late 1980's after the breakup of her marriage, which the church pointed to her as abandoning her her husband. Amy was also suffering backlash from the church community for going "Pop" in 1991 with the breakout success of "Baby Baby". Oh well, can't have everything. Then of course when she met Vince Gill and got married -- well, more backlash!! But it's nice to see she's kinda come full circle again.
This song has always reminded me of my 1st boyfriend. So much happened when we were just 16 and 17. Completely heartbreaking. He will always be in my heart even if I never see him. 1986 and 87. 💔CAS.

Yes Richard Page who Chicago asked to replace Peter Cetera when he left in 1985. Of course, Peter and Amy sang the #1 hit "Next Time We Fall" written by the late Bobby Caldwell.
Amy is amazing. This is when she opened up the door to the world and connected with what was deep inherent with human nature. To need and be needed. God bless.
Amy G. such a warrior and pioneer of breaking the religious status quo in music and because of no fear and a real heart for music and God she has blessed so many heart that would have never set foot in a church and God has blessed her for it. Thanks A.G.
I’ve seen Amy Grant in concert 4 times and have thought of her as one of my favorites. Her music helped me through my young teenage years, through high school.
to serina dudley you seen her 4 times in concert no way l how long ago was that l thought she was in hiding in the 21st century she has done some good older songs from uk England
The harmony is very haunting! It's actually one of the reasons why I love it. Also, the melody in both vocals and the violin are dark. Which is strange but so beautiful. This was probably unintentional. But the song was too good to be let go!
I song expresses with ever single word and phrase how I feel about my first love, I was 17 and he was 16, my mother told me it was puppy love and I would forget about him but I haven’t. We’re both married with families of our own and we haven’t talked for decades and I still love him always.
While I was a DJ at an Akron Ohio Christian radio station back in the late 80's, this song was on the play list and I loved it as well as a lot of other Amy Grant songs...never knew there was a video..........thanks so much for the share! Godspeed!
Used to listen to this song before Mr. Mister got their break and Chicago had not hired Bill Champlin. Recently I listened to the song again and immediately recognized Richard Page (lead singer of Mr. Mister) at the beginning and Bill Champlin in the mix giving the song the needed soulful voice and texture. Great song... :)
First heard "Stay for A While" back in winter 1988 (a young 16 year old) who'd just met my first love... it's funny how profound 2 teenagers thought the lyrics were back in 1988 as 16 year olds in puppy love... and thinking back to that time today in 2015... really drives the message home louder than ever... and just like the lyrics... remembering the days gone by... missing the smile... "for a moment it can seem just the way it used to be."
When I was in Middle School back then ? I didn't know Amy Grant was a christian artist it was the time before I got saved through Jesus Christ. Her music embraces young people like me to be lifted up to the Holy Spirit.

Clear summer days, warm and lazy, yeah
Long walks, long talks after dark

Time takes its toll
And time alters our youth
But it would be nice to spend some time with you
Oh, stay for a while

The ending vocal is Richard Page from Mr. Mister.
And Michael W Smith
@@MichaelSouhoka Richard Page is such an amazing singer/songwriter! His vocals here are perfection.

Anotha Classic By Amy Grant!!!! Love It.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amy is amazing. This is when she opened up the door to the world and connected with what was deep inherent with human nature. To need and be needed. God bless.
Richard Page of mr mister adds some magic as the background vocalist

Amy G. such a warrior and pioneer of breaking the religious status quo in music and because of no fear and a real heart for music and God she has blessed so many heart that would have never set foot in a church and God has blessed her for it. Thanks A.G.
amen.
I loved it !!! Real words . That's true 1
This was a great track to open the 1986 collection album with. I love the production. The fat bass sound💯
Relaxing ...tune😊
One of my favorite Amy songs. Cannot listen to it enough.
The harmony is very haunting! It's actually one of the reasons why I love it.
Also, the melody in both vocals and the violin are dark.
Which is strange but so beautiful.
This was probably unintentional. But the song was too good to be let go!
Cledyston Dos Santos 0:23- creepy though unintentional. But you have to love it!
@@Cledyston creepy?? l don't think so which bit? l am from the furniture 2019 2020 2021 reading your 7 year old comments ho ho

One of my favorite songs and videos, ever! Amy is such a genuine person...such a genuine artist...such a genuine soul.
I song expresses with ever single word and phrase how I feel about my first love, I was 17 and he was 16, my mother told me it was puppy love and I would forget about him but I haven’t. We’re both married with families of our own and we haven’t talked for decades and I still love him always.
Magnific song and fantastic core, blessings for all.
Ending is so good, like a jumbo jet landing.
Haha! Kinda true. 😂
I love the song, especially the ending
@@C.UHoward Me too,one of the best.
@@Steven4now So nice.
1986...what a formative year for so many of us out there...anyway, you gotta love Richard Page on this tune helping out on BV's
I still feel the same way today
While I was a DJ at an Akron Ohio Christian radio station back in the late 80's, this song was on the play list and I loved it as well as a lot of other Amy Grant songs...never knew there was a video..........thanks so much for the share! Godspeed!
we were so young and tender.......!!! Oh, How the years go bye .....!
yes she is married to vince gill, we are from nashville and see them out from time to time. i have been a fan for 25 years!
A Timeless Masterpiece
Man, those words - ring true.
I'm in love with Amy Grant!
I always was.....
1986.....what a year.
agreed
First heard "Stay for A While" back in winter 1988 (a young 16 year old) who'd just met my first love... it's funny how profound 2 teenagers thought the lyrics were back in 1988 as 16 year olds in puppy love... and thinking back to that time today in 2015... really drives the message home louder than ever... and just like the lyrics... remembering the days gone by... missing the smile... "for a moment it can seem just the way it used to be."
+ryanarcuri my friend you said a mouth full
same here same age Great memories
same her and i was 12. great song!
Hopefully Amy did not encourage you to fornicate. She was a spokeswoman for Satan. This whole song is saying to go out and godless sex.
@@erikjager4704 It worked. I fornicated over and over. Thanks Amy!
Darkly beautiful...
I love this track.
One of my FAVORITES!!!
Stay for a while ... Lord, I LOVE YOU SOOOO MUCH! ❤️😘
One of my favorites of all time!
When I was in Middle School back then ? I didn't know Amy Grant was a christian artist it was the time before I got saved through Jesus Christ. Her music embraces young people like me to be lifted up to the Holy Spirit.
One of Amy's BEST!!!🙌❤
Hands down
