Thanks Jamie, I just have a lot of spare time to invest in it. Should have flew out to Cyprus yesterday for the half term week. Thats been knackered so I will keep going hard at it pal till I can get back out fishing.
A man who not only can fish but enjoys his Rugby. That's the beauty of fishing for an England supporter like myself. When the Rugby goes tits up (and for England, they'll find a way to make sure that it does), I can always go fishing. Good to see Scotland firing on all cylinders again :)
@@lindsayiflyfish The only time that I don't like it, is when the Taffs beat us. Which happens rather too often for my liking. Any other team I'll take with good grace (goodish anyway). Lindsay, now a washing line enthusiast. Took your advice on best colours and have been tying FABs with fnf jelly, blushing sunburst with biscuit in front. Great. Also two cormorants above , one ribbed with red holo and 2 strands of red flashabou over the wing and one ribbed green with blue flashabou over. Deadly on my local loch.
Hi lindsay, a variant of the Dawi Bach, tie it as a booby. Slightly lighter body colour. Use black booby eyes, hook size 12 or 10 .use on the point or as a single fly. Excellent to use when fish are feeding on the dreaded pin fry. Works really well near weed beds. Good video.
The simple act of splitting the foam. Is one of the most effective ways of massively improving the buoyancy of the fab. Due to the extra surface area created. It also changes the action of the fly in the water the extra drag creates more water displacement and disturbance to draw in the trout. Final benefit is that the split foam sits better on the hook.
I m not a rocket scientist but I dont believe splitting the foam provides any additional buoyancy. Buoyancy is created by "displacement" not surface area. Assume we have a cubic foot of foam and for this purpose assume it's weightless. It will displace some 62 plus pounds of water. No matter how many times it is cut, it can only float what it displaces.
@@lindsayiflyfish Hi Lindsay, you are going against the grain on this one. Most would hold to the opinion that thinner tippet will sink at a greater rate of speed due to its thinner diameter and thus the surface tension in the water also being less. Do you disagree? Please explain.
@@gregb8824 With light and buoyant flies the lighter the floor the longer it will stay higher in the water column. Thicker diameter tippet will pull the flies under quicker. As I said though its more about how the flies move on the lighter tippet.
Hi lindsay I have used nano thread and didn't think about super glue . I have been using a touch of varnish on the hook to get it to bite in to hook have you used this and if so why are you using glue ? Kevin
Yes, it can be deadly the booby acts as an attractor making a disturbance in the water on or near the surface. Fish come to investigate then smash the nymphs or buzzers behind. Not dissimilar to fishing the bung.

@@lindsayiflyfish It is at 48:52. You are asked for the top 5 files and I think you say: candy floss booby, orange blob, tequila blob, beaver booby and crucher. I had never heard of a 'beaver booby'! Perhaps I am mishearing? Thanks.
Hi Lindsay, Great video! How do you detect strikes when fishing washing line? Do you look at the booby, end of fly line, loop at the end of rod tip or just feeling a pull while retrieving? And would you detect strikes the same way when fishing straight buzzers?
Hi Lindsay I have just subscribed to you channel and wanted to thank you, it is really informative. Can I just ask one question. When fishing a team of flies do you have a quick way changing leader? I saw the idea of winding the leader back though the rod rings which i will do, but how do you connect/disconnect the leader from the fly line. Thanks
Not quite sure I understand the question. I will have a stab though, 10’ of tippet to your first fly - wind in the line until the loop is at or near the reel - snip the tippet and attach it to the new line.
Hi Lindsay, great video as usual and interesting regarding your choice of fluorocarbon diameter. Which brand do you favour incidentally? Incidentally, I trained as an engineer and know well that as well as specific gravity, weight and drag/friction having an effect on sink rate, not everything can be explained as there are some factors we still don't fully understand, but I'm certainly willing to give it a go! Great channel, please keep it up.
Thanks Carl, I used to swear by Rio Fluroflex Plus in 8.6lb but the prices just got stupid. I use Wychwood Ghost Mode on Stillwater and Hanak on the rivers.
Hi Antony, it really depends at what depth the fish are in the water column. With this method you can use just about any fly line you choose. I like to use a floater personally but a slow intermediate line is good to.
Need to get on the naturals and stop pulling lures!!! I seem to have a catch at all cost mentality, instead of just enjoying being out there. My son shakes his head at the xmas decorations I have in my lure box.
Afternoon Lindsay, tried washing line for 1st time and had a fish 1st cast!!! Struggled a bit after that. Going to use 2 flies till I get more confident. Not easy from bank when winds not always on your back. What tippet material do you recommend for dries please.
Aye Lindsay the Scotland match was lost by Hoggy letting Finn Russell NOT take the 3 safe points from the penalty in front of the posts and that manoeuvre failed .... and .. they lost by 1 point when they should have won by 1 point. OK rant over. Here's to fishing soon ... atb Jim
It was more than that Jim, there was a lack of discipline from the outset. Also the refs decision to send off a player for such a soft infringement was harsh. Thats the breaks though pal and Wales were all about taking the opportunities.

If it wasn’t on a Hanak hook that size 8 would be massive. I am pleasantly surprised just the high quality Hanak hooks.

12lb tippet sinks quicker than 6lb?
Thats correct it is only minuscule but the way the fly fishes on a lighter tippet material is huge.
