Proper Simple Minds, experimental with dashes of Post Punk, Funk, Electronic, Synth Pop, Post Disco and Rhythmic stance. Simple Minds were so FANTASTIC from 1979 to 1982. First 5 albums and then only moments from Sparkle In The Rain when the cracks started showing.
Like a idiosyncratic cross between Kraftwerk 'n Joy Division. Only better. A unique sonic masterpiece from the start of the 80's. Thanks for putting this up Fery. Thumbs up!
I was with Simple Minds four times. GREAT TIMES! I was with Jim and Charlie and Derek and Michael and a good drummer at: 1. De Vereeniging in Nijmegen, Holland on March 7, 1983 2. Ahoy in Rotterdam, Holland on March 31, 1984 with my vfriend Vangelis P. from Greece 3. Ahoy in Rotterdam, Holland on April 1, 1984 with my friend Anita J. where I met my later wife Rynn O. and her friend Rosita K. 4. Rockfestival Werchter, Belgium on July, 8 1984 with my later wife Rynn O. and two friends Rosita K. and Alice (15) Absolutely awesome! Those were the days. I was 19/20 years old then and I am 56 years old now and this is still one of my favorite tracks! And Simple Minds are still one of my favorite bands in their early days. Dia leat! (That is Scottish and it means: Cheers!)
I like this track a lot. It strikes me that there is a real Can influence on this. The bass part sounds like something Czukay would play circa "Monster Movie", and the percussive thing the keyboards do in the verse parts is reminiscent of "Spoon".
Oh no! at 1:16 Jim knocks over a guitar with the mic stand, and then he starts walking forth and back. Thought he was going to step on it at some point!
Yeah this is simple minds at their best love all their early stuff fantastic
I was an apprentice in 1980. Remember this like it’s only a year or two ago. Seen them in Edinburgh this year. First time seeing them.

Michael MacNeil was the real genius, from the moment he left the band nothing was the same

Thanks for the comment faddy:). The sound and picture quality is not very good, I am afraid, but anyway is a great document of early Simple Minds.

Yeah I agree bro. Tago Mago by Can is one of my fave albums.
Thanks for posting! Great footage!
I wonder what Howard Devoto and Barry Adamson thought of Simple Minds from this era.
of course, they were jealous :) but then, both bands rocked to bits at this time.
