Oh, Giselle, we used to make our Christmas villages with graham crackers, too. Thank you for bringing back a flood of beautiful memories. You are a treasure.
Christmas cleaning is actually a very European thing. In European folklore the 12days between Christmas and 6th of January the „gates“ to the underworld are open and ghosts etc can come to you. They are attracted by mess and laundry. So you need to clean and can’t have your laundry out. This is also where the New Years fireworks come from. They are to keep all creatures away. I am from Germany on we hang dry all laundry so I am currently amidst the huge drying all laundry in time for Christmas operation!

we used them for show for a few hours then we went after the candy, although we love graham crackers those mixed with the royal icing is like cement once its dried so we eat what we can the rest unfortunately we have to dispose of 🙂

I’ve watched you for maybe a year but don’t usually comment. I always enjoy your vlogs & learning about your community. I really enjoyed watching you all make graham cracker gingerbread houses. My kids ( in their 30s now) always made gingerbread houses that way in school & scouts. One year we made a whole village at home too & arranged it on a table in our living room. The kids were so proud of it. Well we got up one morning & discovered the temptation was too much for Angie, our yellow lab/golden retriever mixed dog had destroyed it. It looked like she ate quite a bit of it but luckily she didn’t get sick from it. We learned to keep things like that away from her. It looked like you all had a lot of fun making those. Sometimes it’s fun to feel like a kid again especially around Christmas. I hope you & your family have a wonderful holiday.

In my family growing up. We would go to my mom's side Christmas eve for dinner and open gifts. Christmas morning with immediate family. And Christmas day night at my aunt and uncles on my dad's side. I really like Silent Night, but the German version.

ahh that was Tanner brother #3 not Austin :) yeah the poor guy just gave up after it continued to catalase 😀 as for the recipe i'll see what i can do its not my recipe it belongs to one of our ladies (its not even in the kitchen) we have this thing where if you bring a new special recipe to our kitchen it belongs to you and only you make it but, i can ask her 🙂

In my family growing up. We would go to my mom's side Christmas eve for dinner and open gifts. Christmas morning with immediate family. And Christmas day night at my aunt and uncles on my dad's side. I really like Silent Night, but the German version.

ahh that was Tanner brother #3 not Austin :) yeah the poor guy just gave up after it continued to catalase 😀 as for the recipe i'll see what i can do its not my recipe it belongs to one of our ladies (its not even in the kitchen) we have this thing where if you bring a new special recipe to our kitchen it belongs to you and only you make it but, i can ask her 🙂

What beautiful lil homes yummy every year on Christmas Eve we go look at all the beautiful lights build a gingerbread house and make cookies we also bake a birthday cake for Christmas day to celebrate the birth of Jesus my mother in law taught me that 35 years ago

I was so happy to see your video post today! I’ve been watching some of your posts from before I discovered your channel. I’ve also been putting Hutterite Christmas music on in the morning when I have my breakfast & wash up in the kitchen. I love getting Christmas cards in the mail, don’t you?! Have you posted a mailing address so if people want to mail you a card or letter(or book) they know where to send it? I’m a big reader so I’d love to send you a book sometime. Your “gingerbread” house looks amazing! I loved all the different ones, especially yours and the one that looked like the colony. So cute!
