I love you. That's all. Oh, and ALSO here are the recipes translated from the original, which you can see at the end of the video 9:40. By the way I love you. *Raspberry Tart (Modern Domestic Cookery, 1828. Published in New York) 3 cups of raspberries 0.25 cups of sugar + 1 tablespoons for the cream mixture 3 egg yolks 1 cup of cream Optional: 2 tablespoons of flour to help thicken it up 2 pie crusts, for top and bottom In a bowl combine your washed raspberries & sugar till the sugar has dissolved. Lay a pie crust down in a shallow tart pan. Spoon in your raspberries. Cover with a crust, without crimping the edges. Cut a slit on the top to vent. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and carefully remove the top crust...which by the way is super yummy and makes for a great snack as you wait for the tart to be done! In a bowl whisk together 2 egg yolks, your cream and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Slowly pour this over your tart. Return to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 20-30 minutes. Allow to cool before enjoying. * To Broil Potatoes (American Domestic Cookery, 1823. Published in New York) Potatoes Water, for boiling Rinse your potatoes till clean. With their skins on drop the potatoes into boiling water and boil for 15 minutes. This is called parboiling. Remove the potatoes from the water then grill them over a charcoal, gas of wood fired grill till done to your liking or set them over a gridiron over coals. Rotate the potatoes at least once while cooking. * Boiled Peas (American Domestic Cookery, 1823. Published in New York) 1 cup of fresh peas 1 teaspoon of fresh mint or a pinch of dried mint 1 tablespoon of butter Salt & pepper to taste Water, for boiling Boil your peas till hot. If you have fresh mint you may add the mint to the peas in the last minute of boiling before straining the whole together & seasoning with salt, pepper & butter. Or, if your mint is dried strain the cooked peas & then stir in the dried mint, salt, pepper & butter till well incorporated. Peas were frequently prepared with mint in this time period.
That tart looks delicious, and so easy to make! I’ve always wondered why you don’t open the windows and door to let some of the hot air from the fire out. I guess it won’t make much difference tho with the extreme heat everyone’s having this summer.
@@jillsipocz3582 not doubting that one bit. They do all the work. We just transport back in time. No phones, no internet and a time where moral values were higher. I try not to think about how hot Justine must be in the summer. That’s why I appreciate this channel so much
It’s true. While they had other kind of worries, I think living basic is very rewarding. During my travels where I slept in the middle of nowhere and we had no electricity or tap water, those were the most memorable to me
I think about how "difficult" it must have been to cook back then. Then I see you load up the Dutch oven under coals and I'm reminded how much I enjoy cooking just like that. You're actually cooking and putting yourself, your time and your heart into your meal.
This is my zen channel. Even on my worst days, I can come here and be in another place, another time, and feel calm at least for the length of the video 😊♥️☮️
The sound of the rain was lovely. I hope MishMish was having a good nap. Summer fruit pies are delicious. And this receipt intrigued me. From removing the top crust to the custard topping...very interesting. Can't wait to see the review on how it tastes.
Only indoor plumbing could make the cabin any better! I'm too old to fight the bear for the tree. When I lived in the local peasant village as a child (1960-ish) the electricity wasn't very reliable but the water always worked.
We are going through a heat wave out here in California, it was so cooling just to see and hear the rain falling and comfort food so divine. Thank you Justine for the comfort from the heat. It all looks so delicious.
Oh Justine, it must have been so hot in the cabin! I can't imagine cooking over an open fire, inside the house, during the summer! Brava! You are a real sport! Thanks for the yummy receipts.
My husband and I absolutely love you guys! We just watched your wedding documentary episodes and I cried happy tears for your beautiful day! Loved every minute of it and honestly would love to see more of you two and your house build and homestead growing together! Thank you for sharing it with us ❤
While you’re cooking over an open fire on a rainy day. I swear I could smell the food cooking and my mouth starts to water. This is so unfair. It’s cruel 😂 it looks and sounds so homey but cooking from scratch. It’s a lot of hard work and takes a long time to prepare an evening meal. It makes us appreciate what we have now in this modern age. Thank you, Justine for bringing the past alive to all of us and thank YOU and RON FOR BRINGING THESE WONDERFUL VIDEOS TO US. I WISH ALL GRAMMAR SCHOOLED WOULD SHOW THESE TO THE CHILDREN SO THEY CAN APPRECIATE EARLY AMERICANS COOKING. 🙏 please don’t stop making these videos. We all love them.❤
Summer in Italy could be a hard moment cause it's too hot...hearing Rain falling down and see burning flame cooking a pie makes me feel so Better, almost fresher 😁
I absolutely love and adore your channel!!! I ran across it last year when I was looking at old medieval recipes for my LARP group. I did a full days meal from start to finish for a tavern in medieval England. I has meals that a serf, a merchant, a Knight and a Duke would eat and randomly had people select their place in a Lottery. It was a lot of fun, and your channel helped inspire me to do it again. I love your cottage and all the historical recipes!!!
Fun and interesting to watch and see how some of our forebears here since the 1600s, 1700s and 1800s used to cook , bake and eat! Thanks~ Cheers from Yankee New England~♥💙🍺🍺
What a wonderful way to re-kick start my day! The sound of the rain and the crackle of the fire - such wonderful grounding sounds! Can't wait to head on over to Frontier Patriot and listen to the chew & chat! ❤
One of my dreams is to be able to visit places like Gettysburg and other historical places. I've always wondered what life was like back then and I get to watch it through your channel ❤
Having grown up in a urban environment,Ron and Justine, the meal is so comforting and nice to see.Way different from what I am used to in NYC.Thanks again. .
I absolutely love these videos just the whole experience of not using modern day technology having to do everything from scratch, including prepare your meals on tools that we consider these days as primitive. The tools were handmade by blacksmith and Carpenters and people that had talent to use their own bare hands I just love it and then this precious little Cottage in the wilderness the way it was for so many of all of life and all colors slaves or Freman. This is how they were living and surviving and preparing their meals and I’m so grateful that they bought it all back to life and were kind enough to share the experiencewith us viewers I’m definitely a fan. I’ve been binge watching and my 19-year-old daughter can’t stop watching them with me. It’s amazing we’ve bonded over these videos. Glory to God. Thank you so much for sharing. Please continue your good work. I can’t wait to see more.🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😋😜🥰😍😘
Thank you for making these lovely videos. I watch them at the end of my day to relax and find the peace within myself. They work every time. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏 ❤
I’ve had the pleasure to raise my family in a NY Hudson Valley farm house built in 1820 I marvel at how families were fed in my home way back when Thank you for a wonderful view in our past
You know that "throw-away" pie crust, soaked with the sweet raspberry syrup was just a special treat for the lady doing all the cooking! No way you're throwing that out! You're much more industrious than me on a rainy day. With the lovely sound of that rain on the roof, I would've passed the time napping!
I just found you! I'm so happy. Your videos are so relaxing. I've lived this way in Oregon. Off grid. I love it. Yes, it's not easy, but a peaceful and quiet way of life.❤
I used to make cakes and pies, roast meat all at a camp ground using my deep kettles. Loved it and so did everyone. Thanks for bringing it back for my memories.❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. No talking, just short captions. While its true they didn't have the same modern "conveniences" we have today, yet they seemed content with a simpler life and grateful while they ate their meal in peace. :)
Your post are so well done and the recipes are fantastic. The entire process is so satisfying and peaceful. Lovely pie , your husband is so freaking lucky.
This food lokes fabulous! Especially the sausage and the potatoes! Never had raspberry tart.We have to try it! Like the rain and the cozy cabin.Rebecca and David Back.

Who are such a good cook. It's been raining a lot up here in indiana as well.
We love you too! ❤❤❤ You are such a wonderful cook! Thank you for sharing these receipts! 😋😋👩🍳⏲🥧🥧🥔🍖
I have a question. After cooking and baking this way...do you find it more difficult when you cook and bake on modern appliances??
Right back at y’all! Thank you for sharing, looks yummy! ❤
🏞Outdoor Very nice 🏞
🏡Very nice dress and costumes super excellent 🏘
Relaxing rain, a crackling fire, delicious home cooked food in a warm cozy, homey cabin! It literally doesn't get any better than that! 💗

Es relajante y da paz ❤
Gracias 👍 😘
When things weren't' hitting the fan, life seemed quite cozy back then. This was only 29 years after George Washington died.
@@fritzwilhelm8258 So true!
I just ordered a pizza in my nice cozy house with electricity and running showers. Doesn’t get any better than that.
I love it when it’s raining, snowing, or storming in your videos. They are so comforting and therapeutic to watch 😊

Me too.
Simpler in some ways, but a LOT more work in most ways.
