    Great video. It is not a twin turbo, it is a twin scrool single turbo. BMW calls it a twin power turbo.

    Quick tip, the 2 hoses that are in the way, instead of opening the clip the whole clip can be removed by pressing the 2 plastic tabs on the right side and sliding the whole clip up and off. This also works for the clip under the small plastic cover that is removed, there is a tab at the bottom that can be pushed and the whole clip can be slid upwards and out of the way.

    Thank you for this video. I used to have a 2002 BMW 325i and I did the oil changes myself. I traded it with a 2017 330i. I am at the dealership right now for an oil change and they are charging $230. I will start doing it myself from now on. Thanks again

    2.0L twin scroll not twin turbo. Has one turbo designed to function as a twin turbo. Rubber grommets attached to and underneath the engine cover. Loosen the oil filter housing cap fully before removing oil pan drain plug but don’t pull the filter out yet, less mess. Loosen and pull the drain plug catching the old oil in your oil drain pan. 27mm socket for oil cap, 17mm socket for drain plug. Heavily lubricate the oil cap o’ring so it won’t get stuck for next time. As the vehicle ages, use less torque on the oil cap, maybe 20NM instead of 25NM to save the brittle plastic. Big expensive job to replace the oil filter housing. Just make sure there are no leaks when finished. Put some oil on your drain plug copper gasket as well. 5.5 quarts for you imperialists. Done many on my 2017 F30 B46, hope my comments helped. Great video, thank you doing it.

    Thanks for the great video! My '17 330i xDrive had a plastic cover w/ a screw over the drain plug, unlike yours. Needed to use a flex head ratchet to get the filter off. Bought an inexpensive 27mm socket off Amazon for the filter. When I went to pull away the ratchet after loosening, the socket fell into the engine! I listened and was sure it was resting on the belly pan, had to partly de-install to remove the socket. Could not see it from to top to use a magnet. I guess a perfect $$ socket would have had the proper detent to positively hold onto the drive of the quick release ratchet. But this $9 socket still did the trick.

    Seems easier to put the filter in first then cap on top. Not sure why the repair manual suggests attaching the filter to the cap first.

    Perfect Video! Can you share the links of where you brought the BMW oil filter and oil from? Also you personally, how often do you change your BMW's oil? I know BMW says 10,000 miles but most cars are typically 3,000 miles. Just want to hear it from someone that has experience with it. My BMW's oil is due this July and I would love to do it myself.

    • @rkystokes
      @rkystokes  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Darren. The oil and filter came from the local dealership here in Orlando. I recommend using ECS tuning for all Euro parts needs. Personally for me, I go between 5-6k miles or once a year for oil changes.

      FCP Euro has oil + filter kits using either BMW or Liquimoly oil. Change every 6000 miles or so, 10,000 is too long, 3000 is not necessary for the quality of synthetics today.

    Solid video with one important correction: the B46/B48 (same engine but with ULEV restrictions on the B46) requires *5.55* quarts of oil, not 5.25. To prevent overfilling, putting in 5 quarts and then half of another quart is the easiest way. It's better to slightly underfill and then adjust than slightly overfill an engine with oil.

    • @theo.k
      @theo.k 3 роки тому

      The manual calls for 5,24 Litre of oil. Which is 5.55 quarts (US). So he's correct.

    • @ShockwavesFTW
      @ShockwavesFTW 3 роки тому +1

      @@theo.k Ah, I didn't realize he meant liters. I assumed he was American based off the accent - he must be Canadian. Either way, 5.55 quarts for Americans, 5.25 liters for basically everyone else hahaha.
