I would love to see a Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6 movie where each member is from a different universe & their goal is to wipe out every Spider-Man across the Spider-Verse (similar to the finale of the Spider-Man 1994 series). The only way to stop The Sinister 6 would be 12 Spider-Men from across the Spider-Verse teaming up to stop them. The 12 would be Toby, Andrew, Tom, Miles, Peter B., Gwen, Noir, Peni, Ham, Pavitr, Hobie, & Margo. We could finally get some of these characters in live action, & we could see different art styles used for Toby, Andrew, & Tom.

I mean, every single one of those universes are technically part of the MCU multiverse, so all of those are different universes in the multiverse to my understanding. Just like Tobey Maguire's and Andrew Garfield's. Even though they don't really matter, they are necessary if you want to watch the entire MCU.

Two other examples of sliding timelines in audio/visual that you might find interesting:
    1) The Venture Bros. Despite debuting in 2003, the show is always set in the present day. Over the show’s 20-year run, only ~3 years pass in-universe.
    2) The Simpsons. This is a wild example simply because the show has been on for nearly 40 years. Homer has gone from being 39 in the 90’s to being in college in the 90’s to now being a tween in the 90’s.

Another thing to note in the timeline is that all the spider people stories have nexus and canon events that actually happen before ATS. The first one is most probably when Peter of E1610 gets zapped by the collider and creates all the variants of Spider-Man. The others include, Venom getting dragged into the MCU, Miles getting bit, Gwen escaping from E65, Miles saving Inspector Sign (have no idea if I spelt it right), Strange messing with the spell with poor communication skills to Peter, Peter two and three getting dragged into the MCU and Miles of E42 becoming the Prowler.
Another thing to consider and would make a theory video on, is Miguel O’Hara, Kang the Conqueror.

Phenomenal job bro!!! I didn't even think of the fact that the Spider-Verse films (at least in Miles' Universe) are experiencing a sliding time like the actual comics in the Marvel Universe and given how those films actually do try and be a COMIC BOOK in film form so sliding timeline actually make perfect sense (even if the concept is the most comic book thing to ever exist 🤣) and I love your MCU connection theory because it makes sense and it is a much better way to connect the two films franchises into one Multiverse and I believe that's the intention of the Spider-Verse filmmakers too which is clear thanks to the branches from Loki. Fantastic video!! Kept me intrigued the entire time! Loved the amount of work put into finding every small detail and coming up with a very valid explanation as to how the timeline retcons work. Definitely one of your best!!
One question though, at the end with the timeline graphic and the MCUs timeline being 1 year ahead, would it make more sense to (in a chronological rewatch scenario) to watch it with the 2 timelines as if they were matched up (as in ATSV before Endgame) or as it's laid out here, with ATSV fitting right between Shang-Chi and TFATWS?

    • @Geekritique

Currently all I can say is ITSV has to occur after Loki and before No Way Home, and ATSV has to occur after No Way Home. However other ways that falls in line with the MCU is where it gets messy.

Excellent video, as always. I expected you to give me a lot of think about and you have. You consider this so deeply and you analyse the details so closely than I’m confident you’ll be able to answer some of the questions I have about the mechanics of the Spider-Verse because, in considering your points together, I can’t make sense of it all. Hopefully what I’m about to say will make sense.
We know that the Spider-Verse is synonymous with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse, so that means that each Spider-Verse has diverged from the Sacred Timeline, rather than being parallel universes that exist in their own right? Yet that wouldn’t have happened until the demise of He Who Remains caused those timelines to start branching retroactively. But Loki wasn’t released until after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, or any of the media depicting the Spider-Verses included in the Spider-Society. So how were we able to observe those universes if they hadn’t started existing at that point, chronological to the Sacred Timeline? Or do they not branch from the Sacred Timeline, despite the Arachno-Humanoid Poly-Multiverse appearing to follow the same model introduced in Loki?
And if O’Hara founded the Spider-Society, did he name the Earths? Because if he did, his own numbering system is inconsistent. He numbered his own Earth 2099 and Stacey’s Earth 95 (so Stacey presumably became Spider-Woman in 1995?), yet he numbered Morales’ Earth 1610? Why? And if the Spider-Verses did branch from the Sacred Timeline, why does O’Hara call that Earth-199999 and not Earth-1 or Earth-0? (I am aware that the writers are using the same numbering system from the comic books but there doesn’t seem to be a reason for it in the story.)
If the Spider-Verses do diverge from the Sacred Timeline, then Earth-2099 diverged from the Sacred Timeline in its 2099, with O’Hara being a variant of whatever version of O’Hara will exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2099? In other words, if O’Hara and Morales were to both travel back in time to “year 0” in their own respective Spider-Verses, would they not end up together, because both Spider-Verses branched-off the Sacred Timeline and therefore share the same common past? (Like in Back to the Future - if you could hop between the three versions of 1985 and travel back in time in all of them, you’d end up in the same version of 1955, regardless of which version of 1985 you were travelling back from?)
But all that raises another question. If the Spider-Verses have branched-off the Sacred Timeline, they’re not exactly running parallel to each other. So it’s not as though you could pinpoint a moment in one timeline and match it with whatever point is parallel to it in another timeline? It seems messier than that. If they were parallel universes that exist in their own right, then the mechanics of the Alchemax reactor could be explained as it simply bisecting the other timelines, rather than zig-zagging from one to the other? That would explain how Spiders from different respective periods in their own timelines can all be pulled-in to the same point on Earth-1610? But it seems that’s not how it works? So is it more random than that? It’s pulling variants from across timelines that have all diverged from the same, Sacred Timeline. There isn’t that synchronicity. So how exactly is one timeline’s chronology matched with another one?
Even then, though, Gwen Stacey of Earth-65 arriving in Earth-1610 a week before the reactor is activated still doesn’t make sense to me. It seems inconsistent. The reactor pulls-in the Spiders according to their timeline’s relative position to Earth-1610’s. Even if the mechanics of that aren’t clear, those mechanics do at least exist. The Spider of Earth-90214B was brought to Earth-1610 from his timeline’s 1933, as were the Spiders of Earth-14512B from their timeline’s 3145. But they both arrived together on the night of the reactor’s activation. The mechanics of that don’t really make sense to me because of the structure the Multiverse is shown to have, but there is clearly a reason for it. So how come they arrived when the reactor was activated, yet Stacey didn’t? If that temporal displacement can happen, why were no other Spiders displaced? Why wasn’t there a variant brought to Earth-1610 a century before the reactor was activated, or a millennium afterwards?
I’m confused by a lot of this and you are the only person I know who could even attempt to answer all of my questions. Like a theologian explaining the Bible, I ask you: help me make sense of all this.

    • @Geekritique
      @Geekritique  8 місяців тому +3

Hey Alex, thanks for the response. And I’m glad you enjoyed it. Lemme see if I can’t answer any of these questions satisfactorily!
Okay, so no, not all of the multiverse is branched off of the Sacred Timeline tree. There were worlds that existed before Loki connected the Sacred Timeline to other universes. Basically the branches can connect to other universes that exist already, or create new universes. Miguel might have numbered them - there’s no indication either way. Miguel’s Earth is designated 928, but it’s assumed it temporally in the year 2099.
Notice in Loki that there are branches off of all sections of the timeline, meaning new branches occur all across time once the timeline stops being regulated by He Who Remains.
The timelines are said to be parallel, despite occurring at different times respectively. Again, they didn’t all branch off the same timeline. The Sacred Timeline is like a tree with branches that converge across branches from other trees. Together, they form a multiverse. Some worlds are more temporally parallel than others.
I recommend rewatching the chapter titled “Dimensional displacement, not temporal displacement” in this video for more info.

@@GeekritiqueI did! Maybe when Across the Spider-Verse comes out you could shift the timeline to being more of a Star Wars ABY/BBY set up where you include Year 1, Year 2 instead, or above the actual calendar years.
I can't think of a marvel show or movie that did the sliding timeline. It's possible one of the longer running animations started off referencing an IRL year, kept the main characters the same age (or only having aged a year), then kept referencing the year as the show went on, inadvertently creating one.
The UA-cam channel TheRealJims just went into this with The Simpsons too, where Homer's only 5 years away from being born the year the show came out!

Love the video. It’s really cool how across the spider verse made Morbius a better movie. While I got you I’ve been thinking about the X-men timeline and how messed up it is…but maybe it makes more sense if you look at it as 3 separate timelines with their own trilogy. Timeline 1. Is the original trilogy. Timeline 2 would be the Wolverine trilogy. And timeline 3 would be first class, apocalypse, and dark Phoenix…with days of future past being a fun time traveling romp with variants of our favorite characters. Any direct or implied connective tissue between the timelines (ie Jean Greys cameo in the wolverine) could be chalked up to similar backstory because we all know things happen off screen. I don’t know…just something to think about.

Well, something I wanted to add, is why some characters change shape when they travel between universes and others don't? Well, I think it's something that can be deduced and makes a lot of sense. Well, I think that everything is in the molecular change and this would explain why some characters do not glitch when traveling between universes, we can see that in the multiverse of madness when America and Stephen travel between universes they change their structure, from painting, blocks and animation and in no way home none of them glitch but I can deduce that the reason is that traveling through magic or supernatural powers like the ones that America has, changes your molecular structure so that it adapts to the universe that is why no character in no way home suffers from the glitch proof that magic changes the molecular structure could be in electro since a short time after being in the mcu its structure changes, Then the other way to travel is through science or technology and when you travel like this it seems that your structure does not change but you can suffer from the glitch for that very reason because your atoms are not compatible with that universe. but in the post-credits scene of into the spider-verse we see that Miguel travels to the land of Spider-Man in the 60's but his structure does change to 2D animation Well, the explanation I give him is that it was a prototype that if your shape changed, I would change this in future designs so as not to harm his abilities. For example, if Spider-ham were changed to the normal structure and not a cartoon one, it would be annoying for him and it would take away from him. abilities like hammer space, and another reason could be that Miguel himself would see that changing his structure to travel to universes would be detrimental to the traveler, for example if Miguel traveled to the painting dimension it would be very difficult to be able to move or things like that. and well that's what I wanted to contribute, sorry for so much text

Thor Love and Thunder on the other hand takes place 8 years after the break up, and 8 years after 2017 is 2025, also during the film Thor Ragnarok some fangirls of Thor say, "Sorry to hear that Jane dumped you." Why would they bring up the fact that Thor & Jane had the break up, during November 2017, if the break up happened during lets say either late 2015 or early 2016? that would make no sense, that is why Thor Love and Thunder has to take place during October 2025!

People comment on celebrity breakups from years ago all the time. We don’t even know when the general public found out about their breakup, so this does not work. It is so unnecessary and for some reason such a big part of the story, even though canon events are basically incursions, you know, saying one person in that universe and causing that universe to get destroyed. I think my biggest issues with Across the Spider-Verse is it dragging on way too long it doesn’t really go anywhere and has seen drag on for a unnecessarily long period of time making Spider-Man 2099 into a villain with a personality more reminiscent of Superior Spider-Man, which begs the question, why didn’t they just use him instead? them forgetting The Spot as the main villain Who had fine development but that was kind of forgotten about after they may 2099 into the main villain then when he came back and kind of felt underdeveloped, unnecessary Spider-Man’s who didn’t do anything in the film and could’ve easily been card talking about Ben Riley and Lego Spider-Man which by the way I feel like that Lego part didn’t deserve the praise it got just because of how unnecessary that part and how it went nowhere and you could literally remove it and it wouldn’t change the story showing how unnecessary that part was how it deserve to be there because of how it went nowhere, cannon events not being that will explain it being very confusing and a annoying done cliffhanger ending I don’t get me started with the fact that they got a JK to voice Jonah for Earth-42 and I think 1610, but didn’t get him to voice Lego universe but instead we use audio from Spider-Man 2 which you can tell it’s reused so that’s like what the hell

@@GeekritiqueThis could have worked for Gamora but for Loki it doesn't work.
Already (I'm saying this just in case) the idea that the sacred timelines are just one universe/timelines (the series makes no distinction between reality, timelines, and the universe) is false . these are several different universes that follow the path traced by the one who remains, because most of the Loki seen in the series are very different from each other. The first trailer shows us a screen which shows us several universes which come together in the sacred timelines.
So no, I don't think that's what determines whether a person will have problems. I think the answer is much more basic.
Given that in the two Spider-Verse films we have universes that are very different from each other (visually Miles' universe has nothing to do with that of Gwen and Peter Parker from the 1930s (and the second film adds a layer with the live action universes), we can simply say that all universes are not governed by the same laws..
And time slipping has (until proven otherwise) nothing to do with Glitch. They have fundamental differences that cannot be considered the same thing.
time slip transports an individual forcibly through time while Glitch disintegrates an individual when they are not in the correct dimension.

@nikolap490 Oh I know, time slipping has nothing to do with glitching. But what you’re saying is disproven by Kang in Loki. He isolated the Sacred Timeline away from the multiverse. So they’re traveling in time, not cross dimensionally. The pruned variants were from destroyed timeline branches that were beginning to form other universes.

@@GeekritiqueKang doesn't travel between dimensions...am I misinterpreting what you're saying, or is it just inconsistent with what's being said about multiversal warfare?
A Kang variant that discovers other universes and other Kang variants discover the same thing. I repeat it but in the trailer for season 2 of Loki we see several (separate) universes which come together in the sacred chronologies. And Kang from Ant Man 3 has already caused several incursions before being banished to the quantum realm and he claims to have seen the Multiverse die (one wonders if he is not a survivor of a previous multiversal war).
In the MCU, Kang has always been linked to the Multiverse. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's not time-related. Don't make me say what I didn't say. He can travel across universes and into the past and future of a pre-existing universe.

You’re talking about season 2, I’m talking season one and before that point. Chronologically the multiverse was closed until the finale of Loki. Prior to that they were traversing the timeline and branches of that timeline of only one universe.
After Loki s1 allowed the multiverse to take shape again, is how interdimensional travel between the Spider-Verse is possible. Whatever happens in Loki s2, I don’t know. I haven’t seen it.

Or maybe something more? Perhaps Beyond. I don't think it was accidental for him to state "My name is Miles Morales I was bitten by a radioactive spider you should know the rest jerk!"...No mention of being Spider-Man. Then the film ending with "My name is Miles Morales but YOU can call me The Prowler".
He won't follow the canon of it. He's been labeled an Anomaly. He DOES deviate willing to do what all other Spiders are unwilling to.

This is where I have to put my foot down. The MCU is shit. don’t muddy the waters further by pretending these things fit into it. If anything it LOWERS these films value.
