The best part about the sequel is you didn't realize how many Easter eggs they put into the first movie that they expanded upon. It's mind-blowing how far they thought ahead in the first film.
I’ve always respected this movie for doing the heavy lifting for allowing No Way Home to be the live action masterpiece it is.
YES!!!! LOL!!!!
nwh is overated garbage
this movie is underated masterpiece
To be totally honest, it's my favourite spiderman movie. I went in with low hopes, I was more than pleasantly surprised. I'm taking my son to see the new one in 2 days I cannot wait
@@AquaWeiner It’s hardly underrated lmao wdym?
@@AquaWeiner dude, what kind of drug trip were you on while watching No Way Home? I can understand not agreeing with everyone else on the fact that NWH was arguably the best movie in Phase 4 and the second greatest Spider-Man film of all time, but saying that film was overrated is to say that all the live action Spider-Man films of the last 20 YEARS were overrated.
I think it's my personal theory that when Spidey looks at Miles for the first time, the green and purple hues reflect the prowler, showing that the very moment they met had stopped Miles from becoming like his uncle.
@@thoyal7509I meant that if he didn't meet Spider-Man, he most likely would have become like the earth 42 Miles. No necessarily the Prowler, but down that dark path.
This is a good. Now, after watching the sequel, I am wondering if that purple hue was pointing to Myles also being the prowler on earth 42? They are both the good and the bad but it’s all about the choice you make circling back to “with great ability/power comes great responsibility”. I’m waffling I know 😅 but hopefully you get what I’m saying
Called it 👏🏽
16:43 she’s not “going back to her coffee, no fucks given,” she’s despairing that when she finally gets a break from dealing with her off putting supervillain boss, the cafeteria is invaded by costumed do-gooders
Brooooo I only just realised that the reason Peter B. wears sweat pants is because in his entry into Miles' universe, all the bouncing around shreds his spidersuit from the knees down. Then it's only after they reach the Spider Cave that he regains his full suit, meaning that he mended it there or got a new one. I've seen this movie like ten times and still finding new deets
0:18 *landing with the exaggerated swagger of a black teen
At 9:49 I’ve heard that Miles colours are purple and green because he was originally supposed to become to the prowler in his universe but because the 42 spider got switched to his universe it changes to red and blue to indicate that he is now Spider-Man
i agree
@3:19 Imagine if we had to say things like "I don't know, let me Backrub it."
"I wonder what Scarlett Johanssen has been up to these days? I'll just give her a quick Backrub..."
I loved those spider-man Popsicles growing up. The Eyeballs were actual bubblegum 😊
I'm mad at myself because despite seeing this movie DOZENS of times, there were still so many things that I never caught! Excellent video!!!! This is my favorite movie of all time and I have tickets to see Across the Spider-Verse 7 times this weekend.
One subtle detail that I've never seen anyone mention is that when Miles is doing his final Spider-Man montage, some of his moves are identical to how his uncle moved as Prowler. It could be a coincidence, but I like to think it's one more example of the difference Aaron made in his nephew's life.
After watching the second movie, this detail is far more interesting, iykyk
also in the scene at the end right before miles-prowler reveals himself, there’s subtle green and purple lighting on spider-miles’ face
18:01 I think that that's just the mannequin of the suit that Peter died in, cause May wouldn't have it.
The spidey suit with inverted colors probably is a nod to the spidey villian who showed up one time named web man, he even has a marvel legends figure
Great timing in this one. I just rewatched the movie last night. My favorite deep dive so far! 👍🏾👍🏾
Same. Literally just watched it again last night, love the timing on this one
16:42 Yes! Finally someone else spotted this detail. After I found that female scientist on my 2nd watch, I could only pay attention to her every time I watch that scene.
I didn't watch this movie until a year after it came out and I wished I watched it sooner, so glad I got opening night tickets this time for Across the Spiderverse. What an excellent film this was, I really think the next 2 will be fantastic as well. There was just a ton of hidden details and little things in this, it's amazing how much you can fit in with animation.
It's even better it's so good
I also watched ATS couple of days ago, it's really great, I prefer the 1st but the animation work that has gone in this, just give it the Oscar now.
Also just a shoutout to the scene of Gwen with MetroBloomin Track and her transition was so good.
Next two?
@@chadharter9788ony has confirmed at least three more Spider-Man related movies coming out in the next couple years: A Kraven movie later this year, a Madame Web movie due in early 2024 and a third Venom movie in late 2024.
You can see Ganke reading the same comic book that falls on miles face . When miles is asleep and ganke is still awake on that scene near the beginning of the movie.
21:39 Miles also clings to the couch cushions in May's home when the villains attack! I love how his story shows you can be scared but still act in the face of it. He uses the couch cushions to block Scorpion's tail🤣
those floor tiles were hexagons
i vaguely noticed the tessellation as it flashed on the screen and though 'but octagons dont tessellate'
23:47 Aarons record player is a really cool detail.
you just have to put some respect one the quality of animation + writing for this movie, I really hope the people behind the scenes got the recognition and compensation they deserved.
I just love spiderman noir and Jake Johnson's spiderman.
That George Saunders joke goes one level deeper. Arguably his most famous work is “Lincoln in the Bardo” which is about Abraham Lincoln in sort of a middle place between life and death. So Custer in Purgatory is also about an alternate 19th century figure in the afterlife.
My favorite easter egg has to be the fact that they not only made Peter B Parker the 616 Spider-Man, but they actually titled his comic page The Amazing Spider-Man much like the real life 616 Spider-Man comics.
18:01 The "Black suit" is just a blank mannequin implying that Peter died while wearing that suit 😔😔
Awesome details Erik learn something new from you every video
Not sure if you mentioned this but one of my favorite details is the sign in Times Square for an EA water polo game. I play water polo and it’s so great to see it get even a subtle nod in cinema! Plus a wp video game would be amazing.
I believe the cat poster at 8:50 is referencing the cat poster in the Lego Movie, also by Lord and Miller.
don't kno if anyone else has mentioned this but "sunsets: how do they work?" is a reference to the ICP song Miracles, which features the line "magnets: how do they work?"
Two things:
1: I love this movies art style and I love the Easter eggs in this story
2: I don’t know if you mind correcting you Eric but you said 5 cents, not 10 cents.
But, it’s cool Eric, we all make mistakes
It's here! A Deep Dive on the greatest film ever made!!
It's my favorite movie of all time!
I've been a Fun-Lovin' Spider-Man Super-Fan since 1967! 🕸
The 42 number is not Miles' number, it's a reference to Earth-42 dimension, where the spider originated.
My theory is that that fall scene with Miles breaking the goober is the last recognizable bit before it diverged into the chaotic events in Earth 42.
Can't wait for Across the spiderverse! 😆
@@DeepDiveNR I'll be watching it the day it comes out! 😆
@@DeepDiveNR Stop teasing us poor plebs who have to wait to see it, it only hurts! 😢😅
@@IceMetalPunk wdym its coming out tmw he didnt see it yet
@@yazzy3177 People in the press, like Voss, get to see movies a little earlier than the official release, so they can write/record reviews.
The Donald Glover campaign was to cast him in the Amazing Spider-Man movie, not for miles. Community had him wear the Spider-Man pajamas as a reference to it. That inspired the creation of Miles Morales in the comics.
I’m so excited for this weekend, even more so now!!
7:58 He lost the balloon!😂😂😂😂 Da Big Fat Balloon!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This movie is so amazing, My Favorite Spider-Man Movie
When Miles has his spider sense checked by the OG peter of his Earth it goes from Green/Purple to Red/Blue because meeting Peter and getting his “frequency checked” he switches his destiny from ending up as a Prowler (and following down the same path his uncle went on) to ending up as a Spider-Man.
And unfortunately they’re not using ben day dots they are using CMYK halftones. I used to do silk screen printing in highschool so I can kind of tell the difference & when I saw them on the screen for the first time I could tell what these were a lot more clearly. Ben day dots are dots all the same size giving off the feeling of a comic book but these are closer to CMYK Halftones because almost all of the circles used are the different sizes making it CMYK halftones and not Ben day dots.
I think when his colors changed when he met peter parker means that his fate changed from being he prowler into spiderman
i dont know why i have tears, maybe is the realization of understanding something you had only seen briefly
I feel like that “hang in there kitty poster” was a reference to the Lego movie
Just watched across the spider verse yesterday. And all I can say it's worth the wait, and be ready
Just thought I'd point out that around the 10:02 segment E-90214 was being said as E-90412. =) Great video btw!
THANKS for this!!!! You meant 10 cents @ 19:06.
Seeing #2 today and even more pumped after watching this awesome deep dive!😸 will defs be tuning in to the live stream tomorrow!
Love love love this Deep Dive Voss! I was waiting for it all week and as always, you did not disappoint! Thanks for providing me with some comfort food with this analysis!🎉
hi ricardo
Great vid dude smashed it !!!
Hey Eric, amazing breakdown! I love watching you and the rest of the New Rockstars gang in all of your channels. I really enjoyed this breakdown of Into the Spider-verse. Especially when I saw the Easter eggs on Miles’s contact list and was stunned. Especially in the K section when the name Karn popped up. Karn is the outcast brother of the Inheritors during the 2014-15 Spider-Verse comic book event, who eventually joined the side of the Spider friends.
Thank you so much for all the details and your work. Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤
I'm low key upset that I I've missed the part @16:40 every time I've watched the movie even though it's so close to the center of the screen. Her reaction makes the scene so much more funny.
I got the teary feels all over again. Great vid!!
Regarding the webs sticking to nothing, I would also compare that to the 1960's Spider-Man animated show, as there are many shots of him swinging on one web line which is not connected to anything. on screen that could reasonably do that.
Many thanks for this insightful video!
I’m so excited to watch this!!!!
When I thought I knew all of the tiny details in this film, I watch this video and WOW I was wrong! There were some details that I already knew but Miles’ smear frames, the 12fps vs 24 fps and even Peter’s face healing really fast are the few of many in this video that I didn’t really think about until now.
Fantastic video! Gave this a recent rewatch before seeing the sequel.
Love them both.
That Leap of Faith frame has been my wallpaper ever since this movie first came out.
Bro, I wasn’t even aware of half these Easter Eggs in this movie! :0
The foreshadowing in this movie hits so hard after rewatching the first one
That “all black” suit is the empty spot of Peter’s suit from when he died
Love the video Erik! Just wanted to mention though that you were saying “90412” but on the video it’s showing “90214”. Still amazing as always!
9:40 POSSIBLE SPOILERS
I thought that It meant his fate was the prowler because as we saw in the movie miles was the prowler when he wasn’t bit by the spider. But because he saw him the canon event changed and he was becoming spiderman
There’s two more details I noticed
1) just before Miles scrolls through his phone contacts you briefly see the apps onscreen and he has QQ, it’s also the only real app icon among all the other ones
2) the bank is called Trust Us Bank which is pretty funny
25:57. It should say EDT, not EST.
This is my favorite movie, so I have a lot to say... this will be one very long, stream-of-consciousness comment as I watch the video 😁 I have plans to see Across this Sunday with my niece and nephew, but I've told them that if they end up having scheduling conflicts, *I don't care.* Nothing will stop me from seeing it opening weekend unless someone physically restrains my ability to get to the theater 😂 Anyway... video thoughts...
1. For the first web-swinging bit right at the start, they point it out in the movie immediately after. Peter B. says "We taught him that, right?" And Gwen goes, "I didn't teach him that. And you *definitely* didn't teach him that." Because Blonde Peter taught him that 🙂
2. I don't know if I ever connected the dots that when we see the spider in the opening sequence, *that* is when it becomes cross-dimensional. Huh. Since all the Spider-People got pulled into the Ultimate universe when Peter's head was shoved into the collider, I wonder if there are a bunch of multiversal variants of the actual spider there, too? 🤔😂
3. I had no idea that Backrub was the actual original name for Google. Yikes, I'm glad they changed it, because it would be really awkward to be like, "I wanted to know more about that celebrity, so I gave her a quick Backrub to find out" 😂
4. Okay, I never noticed "Decembruary" and now I'm laughing my ass off 😂 All I can hear in my head is Miles's own voice from later: "NOT THAT DUMB!" Ffs, Miles lmao
5. I can't believe they included dick nerves when Peter B. is venom struck the first time... jeebus, animators 😂
6. I choose to believe Miles's eyes literally popped out for a moment, but superpowers and comic book logic popped them back in his head 😏
7. I always thought the caped suit was a reference to Spider-Man Supreme, but now that you mention it (and I Googled it again), the Spider Supreme suit is base blue, isn't it? Huh.
8. I never noticed the Marlon James book ad... especially considering he's Jamaican, I'm extremely surprised they got away with including "blood cloth" in a PG-rated animated movie 😅
9. "He may not have gotten his Estella, but he did come of age." As someone who loves Great Expectations, despite generally not being into most classic literature, I have to commend you for that reference/comparison. Does that make Kingpin the Orlick, Jefferson the Joe, and Peter B. the Magwitch?
Ahh this movie is one of my favorites of all time, I’m so glad you broke it down again!! Thank you Erik and the rest of the Nee Rockstars team!
hahaha i love how u have to say 2018 because the titles are so similar lol
@@DeepDiveNR That's what I've been doing since they announced the name of Across 🤷♂
another silly little detail: in the bit where all the spider-people are in Miles' dorm room on the ceiling, they all have to sandwich to hold Peni up since she can't web and uses her robot instead!
Miles taps the hilighter on his throat when singing sunflower to mimic the vibrato that is used in the song
You can always tell when the people making a film love the film
The hang in there kitty poster in the class is from the Lego movie also of lord and miller
I saw the new one last night... the art alone is incredible!!! Oh btw @DeepDiveNR do you guys think you can do episode breakdowns of the show "From" ? I would love to hear your team's insights on that show
Thanx, V.
Seeing the first showing of Across the Spiderverse today. Can't wait.
I'm pretty sure there's more than 1 Stan Lee Train cameo. Pretty sure they put him in another few train shots.
Wonder if we will get a Venom cameo in this movie
No one notice the glitches that the spider bite miles? That spider is from another universe
This was an easter egg fest! wow incredible work
Great deep dive. Again and again. But I always wonder, what is the music at the end of the deep dives?
Just watched the 2nd one! Oh boy was it an adventure!
Aaron Davis was also wearing a RUN DMC shirt @7:07 but it’s covered up by his arm.
I appreciate the breakdown, the comfort food analogy is really tortured but you do you.
Seeing the movie tomorrow night, looking forward to it.
If we're really sticking to the MCU being 199999, and Peter B. Parker's world being 616, are we implying that Peter B himself is the main comics Spidey?
Right?
11:35 that probably hurt so bad
the bagel guy is spot
I'm pretty sure the animators once mentioned in an interview that every time there was a shot of the train they added a Stan Lee cameo since everyone wanted to be the one to create the Stan Lee cameo
"Sunsets, how do they work?" is more likely a not do "Magnets, how do they work?" the famous ICP lyric.
These spooderman movies are a true work of art. The super high end cgi and different art styles throughout were just amazing.
I love Spider-Man. I love comic books. And I love animation. This, is probably the best mixture of all 3.
Hey Eric, it’s not green and purple for goblin.. it’s green and purple for Prowler
this movie is so good, it and No Way Home are interchangeable as my number 1 favourite
something i havent seen anyone mention is the moment where gwen’s reflection shows in the glass of her window as spider woman instead of gwen, it comes just after her dad’s line about how hard he’s trying to catch spider woman, i think it was meant to underline the fact that she’s right under his nose while he throws her aside, always having his attention but not in the way she wants.
Please, my lord and savior Erik Voss, please cover Mitchell's vs The Machines. The SpiderVerse easter egg is perfectly tucked away.
Your the best to ever do it ERIK VOSS
the green and purple spidey sense is actually prowlers influence on miles saw it in a interview with one of the animators on kinda funny
Without 1998's Spider Wars, 2010's Shattered Dimensions, 2012's Spider-Men or 2014's Spider-Verse this film probably wouldn't exist.
I actually re-read the Spider-Verse / Spider-Geddon Omnibus over the last few days and will be re-watching.Spider Wars before watching the new one tonight.
It's not my favourite Spider-Man film, not by a long shot but this and PS4's made me like Miles a bit more than the comics did.
If you want to connect Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, you could pretend that Tarantulas, intercepted a Spiderman, and reverse enginer one the devise that Spiderman 2099 gave out, allowing him and Blackarachnia to crossover into the Spiderverse. With all of this, Unicron is contacted by Tarantulas, and invades the Spiderverse. Next villain for a Oniversal Crossover.
Also, who wins? Unicron or Galactus? Both devours of worlds, however, one is chaos and evil, the other just needs a good meal to stay alive.
18:55 There's also the detail that Noir's Spider-Sense is White with a Gray Highlight while everyone else's is White with a Red Hightlight
I’m gonna have to watch the rest of this deep dive after ATSV. I’ve avoided every trailer and all other content directly related to the movie, and already I’ve learned 2 details about the movie from this video. A little warning next time please.
the all red suit might be a referance to the alternate universe "the spider" spider man who is an all red carnage spider man.
Sunsets "how do they work?" Might be an embarrassing comment on my OLD fav band, ICP's, song "miracles" where shaggy, stupidly asks "fkn magnets, how do they work?" & Olivia octavius's arms look like inflatable tubes. Must be so soft and squishy, just bring a saftey pin
