    I was just thinking about my great grandma today. She lived to be over 100, until her passing a year ago. Despite being only a child in the 20s, she kept this hairstyle throughout her life and loved applying lip liners for outings. Very accurate video 💖

    1920s makeup wasn't as bold as most of us imagine... we have to remember that most of the images of women we see were actresses, and that the monochrome film they used back then made reds appear black... i.e., the colors were lighter than they appear. So the authentic look wasn't really "vampy." But I love the dress!

      Yes, and free will exists quite the same therefore I must unfortunately have to disagree on your part madam. The 1920s is the period of neverending styles, everyone had something different, coats reaching neatly to the heel to over the knee drape gowns embellished in floral and floral egyptian patternings. Egypt played a large part in the Art Deco times, they wanted to feel eccentric and god like, a capital of leisure. Automobiles as well proved the advanced chariot. Makeup was transferred from the Elizabethan time frame as so as the victorian times, almost a ghost white pality on a harsh bold makeup strategizing over it. The ones thing that agitates me is calling something "1920s" or "1950s", it is not as though every decade they change immediately, there is a specific for each year..1950 to 1955 offered a high change, circle dresses were exciting and modest, sheath was still commonly worn but a new exuberant form of wear that is the circle dress, was added to the long list of choices in the age of streamlined.

      @@kck9742 oh, I a disagreeing of the possibility of different colored lip shades the modern women would apply, the unique appeal in every outfit offered infinite choices that the bare thought of there not being dark red lip beside, Warner Brothers and 20th century fox, was next to improbable.

    This is so surreal. I used to watch all of your videos when I was in middle school and first getting into vintage style! Since then I've moved on to different interests, but I still really love history and vintage fashion even though I have no real interest to dress retro. It's crazy that every time I stumble on your channel again, I'm taken back to that my early teens! I think it's especially neat that we get to see more people recreate 1920's looks in 2020. It definitely brings a bit of light in these dark times.
    Thanks for all the cool vintage content over the years!

    When using those clips the cold you yet you need to move the comb back and forth to increase the depth of the wave you'll find you get a much deeper and smoother wave with the clip personally I don't like using the clip but I was trying to do the finger wave but if you try what I said what I think you'll have better luck I love what you doing it would be great if you could find some old-time curlers with a snap closure on them you might be able to find him in the thrift shop or something like that they would work perfectly I kept watching you did a great job with the eye makeup I don't know if you know this but in the twenties there was something called beating the washes and it was a black wax that you melted and use that instead of mascara it gave rather an odd look but it was very popular in the twenties I might even have somewhere someplace I don't think they make it anymore maybe it's a article make a place might have it but you did a really nice job on your eyes well that's my two cents turned out really well

    I wonder if liquid foundation was actually widely used in the 1920s, though (outside of theatrical makeup). I collect magazines and catalogs from this decade and I have only seen face powders being advertised, never liquid foundations. I’m also skeptical about the shimmery eyeshadow. They probably had mostly matte shadows at the time.

    • @mabel8179
      @mabel8179 3 роки тому +7

      They only had thick theatrical greasy foundation that was used in the film industry, so yes they used fine face powder. Commercial ( i.e for every day ladies) foundation came in when Max Factor developed the Pan Cake foundation in the 1930s. For a shimmer on eye shadow they put a bit of Vaseline over it. You are right- eyeshadow was matte then.

    • @Maria-no4lm
      @Maria-no4lm 2 роки тому

      They might have used a vanishing cream as a powder base
      yep only mattes in this era.
