Eivør is from the Faroe Islands, and she’s singing here in Faroese. Spellbound I am, I am The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me Spellbound deep in my soul, in my soul In my heart burns a sizzling fire, a sizzling fire Spellbound I am, I am The wizard has enchanted me, enchanted me Spellbound in my heart's root, my heart's root My eyes gaze to where the wizard stood
I speak Swedish and thought she was condemned to burn at the stake as a witch because of the words "brännande baal" witch sounds like Swedish "brännande bål" but I am happy no one was sentenced to death by burning alive at a pole in these lyrics
@@Censeo bål betyder olika saker på, men tesxten i sången sjunger hon "Í hjartanum logar brennandi bál brennandi bál", så det brinner en eld i hennes hjärta och behöver inte vara bokstavligt menat, hehe.
Haha - at 2:21 you stop it and say "I don't know if it gets better than this..." We are all sitting here laughing and vigorously nodding our heads because we know just how much better it's going to get. And you sure won't expect the throat singing :D
Another great song from Eivor is Falling Free, live at the Old Theater in Torshavn. More of a modern rock song in English. Her voice is also spectacular. Thank you
Okay, since you actually asked and seem genuinely interested, I'll tell you some things. What you were hearing here is Circumpolar Tradition shamanic song-magic. This is the art of blending the person with the landscape and the lives and the purpose. It does involve singing both exhaling and inhaling in a continuous "spell" unified with the land, and the result can be navigation, finding food or shelter, learning the nature of Nature in a place, or just glorifying in the pure sensation of being one with the world. This art goes back tens of thousands of years, to at least the Ice Age among the Faroese, Sami, Tungus, Chukchi, Inuit, Ojibwa, Sioux, and others. It is a form of enlightenment achieved solely by communion, without dependence on drugs, and so it must be extremely refined to have best effect. This art is from the original source of the very word "shaman," one who bridges among the worlds of possibilities and potentials for the sake of guiding, healing, and evolving the people in their sustainable relationship to Nature. This particular song is (like a lot of her works) laced with irony. It is a piece about being entranced by magic, while she actually entrances you with her magic of the world, as if to provide you the example. It's tasty fun! It's also a bit of the Trickster's art, which is one of those things you get with shamans. We often challenge you to see outside your own process, and simultaneously to see your process as perfectly natural for what you are. It's all about the perspective of your place and purpose. If you would like to explore this primordial essence more, you could look up a few of her other tracks. "Eivør - Salt (Lyric Video)" and "Eivør - Undo Your Mind (Official Video)" and "Eivør - Surrender (Official Video)" might do. Alternately, you may find a similar but different sense of ancient times brought forth from "Omnia (Official) Saltatio Vita" or "FAUN - Odin (feat. Einar Selvik / WARDRUNA & Matin Seeberg). Or if you are looking for that moment of peacefulness, try Maddji, Dawn Light. So, anyway, there's a bit of an answer, and a bit of a beginning. What you do with it from there is entirely your business to pursue if you will... If you have any further question, I will try to respond in a meaningful way if I can.
This was from a consert at the farm Steigen in Aurland, Norway. Eivør sang with the Norwegian band «Vamp» that she has been doing a lot. You may have heard Eivør if you have seen the show «The last kongdom» where she contributed both as a singer and a co-writer of the score.
I'm not sure how rare folk music festivals are in the US but in Europen I don't think they're that rare. Of course Norway has a killer backdrop for such things.
you are such cool people, and amazing personalities, i think if they see a version of you singing her their song, they would give you big tour of the islands
She is my top artist I had a good chat with her and her band when they did a gig in Bristol England. Falling Free live is just magic. She sang the songs in the Last Kingdom.
Forgot to mention, Tròdlabùndin was written by Eivør and is classified as Nordic folk. The words as sung are in Faroese. The Faroe islands, by the way, are a part of the Kingdom of Denmark and lie just about midway between Norway and Iceland. You should visit them someday, especially the views from around the tiny village of Gásadalur (ghos-uh-del-er); they'll take your breath away.
There is a video of her next to the sea. And of course I can't find it but it really puts this song in to perspective. Should really look for that one. It turned me on to her. I'm a simple country boy but love this!!!!
Magical! Saw Eivor live and stood a few feet in front of her. She sings alot in English playing various guitars with more of a folk feel. Dead Can Dance now please!
Eivor Pálsdóttir is truly blessed by the God's she provides the vocals for God Of War she describes it as the voice of mother earth. She also does the soundtrack for The Last Kingdom. GLORIOUS voice
Great reaction! I'm glad you all find this amazing. Eivør Pálsdóttir is from the Faroe Islands and so her name in Faroese phonetically is: Eivør (eye-ver) Pálsdóttir (puls-dah-ter). The song phonetically is: Tròdlabùndin (trudt-lah-bahn-ton) and essentially means "spellbound"
So it follows closely Icelandic pronunciation conventions, lo-kEh instead of low-key when pronouncing Loki’s name. But then again even in English, there are at least two ways to say “about”. So what do I know? The way you write it, the vowels seem to be replaced with schwa or near-schwa. I guess Faroese seems to be half-way house between modern Icelandic and general English in pronunciation conventions.
I love Eivor, I accidently discovered her on youtube some 9 years ago. I'm so glad she's getting to be more known. She's me favouritr female vocalist. She's the one who can do everything. She has classical vocal training so she can do Opera ( look for panis Angelicus Eivor), Her version of May it be by Enia ( song of Lotr). Another great version of the song you've just listened with more of that throat singing (she has several versions of her own songs, Undo your mind a song that coul be features in a James Bond movie, My mother with it's folky sound, Falling free is a great song. Her collaboration with Einar from Wardruna (in the same line as Hilung but with their own flavor). There's a lot to choose from and to drop your jaw in what concerns Eivor.
Fun fact: You can't really go wrong with any of her live performances on youtube. Her current stuff generally has a more industrial edge to it but she's equally an angel.
Faroese Eivør Pálsdóttir performs her own song «Tròdlabùndin» (from the album «Trøllabundin» 2005) at an outdoor concert with Vamp at the mountain farm Stigen in Aurland, Norway 10.08.13. The ladder farm is on the UNESCO World Heritage List from 2005, and it is located by the Aurlandsfjord.
I was so lucky seeing her live in March just before the covid-19 bullshit kicked in in my country. She is not of this world, I am pretty sure about it, but some sort of fairy/siren from another dimension.

I was watching this video literally yesterday! I never expected my favorite metal music reactors would react to this, let alone the next day. I am starting to believe in magic!
She put on live shows from her home at the beginning of the lockdown (online). Kept me sane during April and May 2020. She’s a great person. Glad you liked this. Try “I Tokuni” by her and then check out Ignea’s version of the same.

'Troll' isn't just a norse mythological being, the word ('Trøll' in Norwgian), is also synonymous with spellcasting in all the norse languages since that was an ability associated with trolls in ancient times. :) Tròdla or Trølla means 'to troll' or 'trolling' which roughly means 'to cast a spell' and 'Bound' is also derived from norse 'Bundin' so the translated title is 'Spellbound'. I think the current english use of 'trolling' is a pretty funny contrast to the nordic use of the expression as it's still what pretty much all practice of magic including simple magic tricks are called here. A magician is called 'Trollkarl' which means 'Troll-man' in Swedish and he's obviously trolling for a living. :)
Fun fact - some of the "beatboxing" sounds she's making are made on the in-breath instead of how you would normally vocalize (on the out-breath). Although rare, Scandinavian languages can sometimes use this technique when speaking, for example saying "jepp" (for yes), but making the sound while drawing in breath. English speakers tend to get startled by this. I have been asked "are you OK?" on more than one occasion doing this!
Folk in Europe is not mainstream, but every generation is rediscovering it. At some point everyone will be interested in Middle Ages and before that. Then these bands are interesting. The interest does not have to be permanent, but it ensures the survival of the ancient culture.

Kokia is amazing artist, I recommended her on many channels, but she is not that much popular, because of it, almost no-one want to react her songs, it's so sad. :( Can you react her? Please, she deserves it that to be more popular and to people listen her music. Btw, Eivør is great, I really like this song, and this concert... amazing place to play this type of music. :)

Let's just be honest. Marko, Tarja, Floor, Bruce Dickenson, could all take lessons from her. She's that good. And so versatile.
Is a mix between beat boxing and throat singing!
ah! its nothing i have heard before! I love it
That beatboxing-y singing is female throat singeng, or so I heard...
someone commented that it is a mix of throat singing and beat boxing lol. its so interesting
next you should try out from Iceland Ragnheiður GIsladottir she did one album only made with body sounds and song it is amasing what you can do with only people and no instruments
Faroe islands.. you're good otherwise ❤ she's a vocal goddess 🎶💙
Thats is a pretty good pronounciation.
Nice Video.
React to Wadruna with Aurora and the Song Helvagen
you should react to wardruna - Helvegen with Aurora. It's sung in Old norwegian and the lyrics are taking from the Hávamál poem.
Wow...crazy...im the first 😅 nice reaction , great musician . happy to see this right after a hard beerful night 👍 greetings from L.E. / germany
Prost, Alter🤣! Viele Grüße!
thank you glad u enjoyed it
Norse folk at its best
Please react to Kvelertek - Fanden ta dette hull!
They are a Norwegian band, you won’t regret listening and reacting to their music.
I think kvelertak with kvelertak is a better introduction to the band personally but either way yes they should.
The "sounds" are verry old shamanic sounds
nah its a form of her own beatbox/throat singing, not based on tradition actually.
Oh, you can react something not heavy? So, please react japanese artist Kokia and her song "Il Mare Dei Suoni", live version from 2012.
hey alex so basically we have a long list of sponsored requests. So many that we only have the time to get through them in the order they come in with no free time as of now to explore on our own. however if you would like to jump in that line being that is sounds pretty important. you can go to our website then click on the reactions button and go from there!! www.thewolfhunterz.com requests are taking about 2 weeks give or take with the high volume right now.
@@TheWolfHunterZ I'm sorry, I don't have money to buy reaction... So, it's not important, forger about it.
Norway
This song is from the Netflix series The Last Kingdom. Strong song, great series
No it is not. Eivør did the sountrack for The last kingdom, however this song was on her 2004 album titled Eivør.
The Last Kingdom soundtrack was inspired by this song, they are not the same.
Please react to Eviør and «I Tokuni». I promise you will love it. «I Tokuni» means in the mist.
Also the Danish singer Myrkur is great, perfect singer in a scandinavian landscape. Try «Ulvinde» meaning shewolf.
