We dare say that this here is the pinnacle of Scandinavian external frame backpack design, at least until we come up with something even better.
The RP80 is no more, no less than:
    -Straightforward and functional
    -Reliable and long-lived
    -Modular and scalable
    -Finnish MILSPEC quality
This wonderful piece was created in cooperation with Finn-Savotta Oy, Finlands leading manufacturer of hiking and military gear with over 60 years of experience. The textile components are sewn in Estonia, the carry system cushions and the aluminium frame are made in Finland.
    FAQ
-Is this objectively the best ever Finnish external frame pack? Yes.
-Do you offer a plethora of pouches to go along with it? Yes.
-Will you be offering all kinds of neat accessories designed for the RP80? Yes, all sorts cool stuff.

You should consider adding a removable top flap / hood like on the Berghaus Atlas. It does not have to be standard, just add four mounting points (Fastex) and sell the top flap as an option. There should also be one or two additional pouches on that top flap (like on an ALICE Pack or German Kampfrucksack, I like to put my papers and ropes in those top pouches) and some webbing to put additional stuff on top.
I would also prefer side pockets more similar to those on the Berghaus Atlas with a Fastex top flap or double zippers to protect them from rain. I don't have much use for open side pockets. Making them closed offers more options what to use them for. Like on the Berghaus Atlas those pockets also should be removable via zippers on both sides and have an open top and bottom design to stick an axe / tripod or ski between the pouch and bag. The XL pockets you offer already come very close to what I'm looking for. Just make them a little bigger (and sell them with strapping as XXL pouch) and add those two zippers to attach them to the sides of the main bag - voila, the perfect side pouches.
And while we're at it ... make the main compartment 90 or even 100 liters. I mean, it's compressable, right? Sometimes you may need that additional capacity.
I would definitely buy one or two of those "Särmä TST RP90/100 Advanced Recon Packs". ;-)

The optional lid idea is something they've sort of done, they sell a day pack and the hardware to fit it in place, seems like the best option for me

We are waiting for the shoulder straps atm. Hopefully complete set would be available in October 2024. After that we most likely won't be restocking this product anymore. www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-rp80-recon-pack/60736

Between RP80 and Jääkäri XL,which one would you say is more comfortable to carry/has better exernal frame design? I like both(from the pictures and description online), but I am really looking for the most comfort for my longer hikes! Thanks

It looks like the frames are the same for both. I have the Jaakari L, and I wish I had bought the RP80 or the XL. The L is good but the adjustability of the external frame would be nice.

The RP80's frame is generally considered wider and more comfortable than the XL's and it's got a shelf to boot. The XL's pack on the other hands has more built in features.

80 liters is not really that much, a pretty normal or even standard size for a large sustainment pack.

    • @AshleyBlackwater
      @AshleyBlackwater 7 років тому

I'm currently using a 120L pack and thats not enough in all honestly. I'm planning to downgrade in size to this one when I have the money later in the year but the webbing attachments should help make up for this.
