* While Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin were the rat pack swingers their fellow Italian crooner Perry Como was a humble devoted family man who lived in a small family home and left his family well off in his will. As nice a guy as he appeared on TV! 😍
I just described Eugene doing this character on Kelly Clarkson's channel, as his son Dan was on her show. One of his most iconic characters....SCTV was such a brilliant sketch show!!
They played this at an Emmy show, or some award show and the crowd was in hysterics. Up until that point the gang were not sure what their status was with the industry, they knew they were funny......soon the whole world was laughing along!
+Todd Christopher They knew it would be low budget, and used it to their advantage. Now, anyone can do HQ, and everyone does. There's a lot of crap out there.
Big budget? Saturday Night Live's sets (especially back in its heyday) looked cheap and poor and there was always some kind of set problem on the show. Thisis a case of low budget (SNL) vs no budget (SCTV).
That's crap. Saturday Night Live is as cheap and poor in production values as this show, but SCTV is twice as funny. Maybe because SCTV spends money on its talent rather than on hookers and blow for the talent.
Interviewer: "Hi, what did you think of the show?" John Candy: "Oh, I loved it. I love Perry Como. He's the greatest, he really is. 'Mr Relaxation'. (chuckles) OY!" OY, indeed! I thought he looked wonderfully relaxed and he definitely looked ready to "celebrate" with "fame" and wanted to "bogie" and "survive".
40 years later and I’m still cracking up watching this skit.
Words fail at the brilliance of this skit.
For my money this was the best sctv sketch ever. Gene had Perry down to perfection
This was the first time I’d ever ever experienced Eugene Levy’s brilliance. I laugh just as much now as I did then. I loved this show.
...and Perry LOVED this! He'd been kidded about being "too relaxed" for years.....
that was good. Perry Como was a real singer back in the day 50's-70's. He sang like he was half asleep and was good to listen too to go to sleep

Huge SCTV fan and this was my favorite!
It must have been so hard to keep a straight face through this skit.
After all these years this shit is still funny.I WILL SURVIVE!
Nice appearance form Juul Haalmeyer

Makes me want to stand up and stretch.
Eugene Levy is amazing. I think this is the funniest thing they ever did.
I was at that concert!! But passed out 🥱
Most accurate representation of Perry Como aha
Genius.
This shit is still funny after all these years I'm still alive
Mr. Relaxation is still alive ! Well not now of course but back then rest in peace Perry.
Absolutely hysterical,SCTV was far superior to SNL in every way.A big budget doesn't buy laughs.

NO IT WASN'T. NOT TO MENTION IT CAME ON AT 1:30 AM.
@@samuelparker9882 Yes it was fucking better

And Rick Moranas, with that fro and hairy chest, is the hilaire!
even if you kids today never heard of Perry Como or disco.... you still wet your diapers.
you mean your diapers
Fucking Genius !
So damn funny!
Isn't there another version that had John Candy in punk makeup as part of the man-on-the-street interview? The DVD version included it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😁
civic arena demolished ...dammit
LOL!!!!!!!!
Young people wouldn't get this sketch.
I'm 21, I love Perry Como and all the old-timers and I think this is hilarious.
SCTV was more for adults, and not in a crass, shock humor way, like SNL and Fridays were at the time.
