This shows how Clinton managed to stay popular despite whatever scandals surrounded him. He established emotional connections with the people he spoke to and made them feel like they were the only ones in the room. It's a rare gift for a politician, and he definitely made the most of it.

Bush, because he'd spent so little of his life with ordinary people, took that at face value and went into "ornery patrician" mode. Clinton, on the other hand, realised what she actually meant by "the deficit" was "the bad economy", and so answered that question instead, with his trademark empathy and rhetorical skill. Mitch McConnell may be a soulless monster, but he's also intelligent and responding to the incentives created by the system within which he's acting. The republicans realize that greater voting power and democracy in general is a threat to their power. They've become entirely owned by the corporate powers that fund them. So they work to funnel money to the billionaires that own them, and enact dangerous policies to benefit them. And they work to decrease the effectiveness of democracy. Through defunding education, gerrymandering, stacking courts to favor anti-democratic suits, etc.

My favorite Clinton moment was when he wrinkled his forehead and said "I feel your pain". As a thespian, no one could touch him. But, he's still and always will be a predator.

This man is the greatest politician of my generation. Regardless of how people feel about his policy. This man made you feel like he cared, even if he didnt you thought he did.

Clinton knew his audience. He didn't need a teleprompter to tell him what to say (even when he did use them). Most Presidents are stuck without a written speech, but he was always prepared on what to say, how to say it, and to whom he was speaking.
Almost 30 years later, we still haven't brought American wages or education up. Wages are flat while college tuitions have gone way up.
Tuition is up because all government student loans are guaranteed by the government so colleges have free will to charge whatever they want knowing full well they'll be reimbursed. They've gamed the system.

Genius speaker... He doesn't even actually answer the question but immediately understands that the point made was regarding struggling American lives due to financial policy, then connects by saying he's experienced that too, then immediately pivots to a speech he clearly had pre-planned.
In debate terms, connect with audience by relating to them, neither address or put down the actual question like Bush did, but take hold and steer the conversation into waters you've already practiced navigating. Brilliant dude, ridiculously charismatic

It showed that Clinton was a more personable figure that still had connections with every day people whereas Bush had been in Washington for decades and seemed to be unaware of how badly people were hurting at this time. It’s too bad his legacy was marred by scandalous behavior, because I feel that Clinton was a remarkable president.

Clinton had an amazing ability to seem sincere, like he's talking to you and you alone and really listening to you--personally. He wasn't really a great president, but he sure was a great leader.

I just looked at the population stats in Arkansas in the late 1980's......I don't understand how Bill could have known that many people by name or say there was a "good chance" he would have known them by name.

For instance, really the only achievement of the Trump presidency was the trillion dollar tax cut for billionaires that was paid for by literally taking that money from the American people.
If that’s true - and I agree that it is - what does it say about Clinton’s 8 years in office? Didn’t he have nearly a decade to turn this around? @@spb7883 Well a president's role in policy and actual lawmaking is extremely small. Congress writes laws. But I take your point. The real issue is the actual structure of government. Mitch McConnell may be a soulless monster, but he's also intelligent and responding to the incentives created by the system within which he's acting. The republicans realize that greater voting power and democracy in general is a threat to their power. They've become entirely owned by the corporate powers that fund them. So they work to funnel money to the billionaires that own them, and enact dangerous policies to benefit them. And they work to decrease the effectiveness of democracy. Through defunding education, gerrymandering, stacking courts to favor anti-democratic suits, etc.
