  • Despite the fact I discovered my Sena Prism Tube failed to record anything the rest of the weekend, I wanted to get Part 2 of our 2018 HUG adventure out anyway. So, here it is.
    We headed Home Sunday morning and promptly hit HEAVY rain and an accident delay shortly after entering Georgia on I-75 North. Just when we thought things were going great, in Tifton GA my wife's 2017 cT lost power and began limping along barely able to make 30Mph while sounding awful. Being 150 miles from home, we had to call my son to bring the truck to get it home.

    In my video of this rain event, they are right in front of me and you cannot see them...good times...the intercom is in the box. nice and safe... next helmet, I'll install it... Oh, note I was on my 2011 with carbs, not my 2015 that I am pretty sure was in the shop, again...2015 has been replaced..

      Well, keeping it in the box does prevent the "new" from being worn off of it. We will be going to HUG 2019 after all, but by way of New Orleans first. We should arrive there by Friday (is the plan).

      I pull a max of 350 lbs trailer included. Going higher than that on a Ural is possible (we towed 550 lbs to Savannah GA) but it was not comfortable.

    he just switched lanes cause it was going from 3 into 1. so i think you are making something out of this where there is nothing. you could drive as a group all the time but sometimes like in this situation some one just has to move. dont make a thing out of this. still nice footage.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  3 роки тому +1

      Nope, if I can be courteous and actually work with motorcyclists to help keep them together when I'm driving a cage, other's can. It's a pet peeve of mine along with "inappropriate courtesy" where people are stopped at a 4 way, sit there like a lump watching the motorcycle just showing up AFTER they did at the intersection and then try to wave it through like they are doing a favor. Just follow the rules of the road an move on. Nobody else at that intersection is looking at the motorcycle, they are looking at the moron who has been sitting there not moving wondering why and about the time the motorcyclist decides to just go, the other car goes at the same time. It just confusing the intersection. Don't get me started on roundabouts.

    Great Video, I have only seen ONE Ural in my life, and it was a Dnepr,, So sorry your ride broke.
    Reminds me of how I had to be hauled home for a flat tire, at least on a Ural you have a spare.

    • @GoneUraling

      All part of the adventure! I've seen worse with any motorcycle brand you want to pick. Saw a Harley on the BRP that was just purchased near Asheville, NC. He made it 1/2 way up the parkway before parts that should remain INSIDE the engine were OUTSIDE the engine. Less than 200 miles on it and it went BOOM. Saw a guy with a KTM in Barnesville GA, stopped to help as he was wiring it back together as best he could after a wire chaffed and shorted out. The list goes on.

    So to sum it up, would you recommend a not super mechanically inclined young rider like me to buy an Ural? I'm seeing a 1999 Ural 659 on Craigslist now for about $3000. I'm hoping reliability, I can do basic maintenance, but I hope it can get me from east to west coast and back. Would you recommend it? Thanks

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  4 роки тому +2

      I would try to stick with a 2010 or newer. The older 650's are great, if you know how to work on them. Even the 2010+ rigs will need regular and "informed" maintenance. Hit a site like sovietsteeds.com and learn as much as you can.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  4 роки тому +1

      To be clear, the 650's ended around 2000 and they went with the 750 engine. But even up to either 2009 or 2010, the 750 engines still had bronze bushings in places. It wasn't until 2009+ those got changed to bearings.

    • @theodoreberbach9562
      @theodoreberbach9562 4 роки тому

      @@GoneUraling does it means that bronze bushings are bad? And what type of bushing is that?

    Seems more and more to me,,,,,you better be a mechanic to own a Ural.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling  4 роки тому +3

      I won't lie, the more you can do yourself with maintenance and simple repairs, the better off you are. Starting with a GOOD dealer or buying used with 6000+ miles on it already so it is fully sorted out is a good start too.

    • @joezednick3197
      @joezednick3197 4 роки тому +1

      @@GoneUraling I sure agree, a good dealer would be a must, and hopefully one that is strong enough to stay in business, with the help of muliple brands. I was a Honda dealer for many years and was very strong on service. I could own a Ural, especially a 2019 and keep it serviced no problem, but the average person that has owned a modern motorcycle in the past may be overwhelmed by the Ural upkeep.

    • @jasonlangmead8418
      @jasonlangmead8418 4 роки тому +1

      That applies to most motorcycles . Your life depends on the maintenance . Why would you put that in anyone else's hands ?
