Another wonderful walk. We have walked with you every morning during the lock down and enjoyed every one. Thank you so much for the brilliant photography and your amusing and informative commentary.we really look forward to joining you each day .Thankyou.
Hello Eric. I hope you are keeping well despite the unusual situation we all find ourselves in. I’m looking forward to walking in the Lake District again (hopefully soon). I still have a few walks from your excellent guide books to complete plus a few walks from your infectious videos. I do hope that there are more videos to come. They are fantastic. You really are a modern-day Wainwright. Take care. Alan.
Hello Alan. I feel good, but this morning I am off for my yearly health MOT so will feel a bit like a pin cushion after the Doctor and nurse has finiahed with me. It has seemed like a very long spring, and the annoying thing is that the weather in late March, April and May was pretty good for walking. Or, as a friend of mine commented recently, we'll know when lockdown is over, the heavens will open! Take care, and stay safe.
As a boy in the 1950’s I used to fish here, catch the minnows in a bottle, then use them for bait, this is a beautiful walk thank you Eric for the history lesson.
Thank you. I bet that was fun. A few years ago I went up one evening in late may. There were some people camping at the dam end of the tarn, and they were trying to catch their dinner, which they hoped was a nice fat trout. After a while they decided to give in, and headed off down into the village for a bar snack and a drink. I did wonder if they managed to get back again, in the dark, after a drink or two.
Another very informative video. Nice to learn about the wood and the aquaduct. You had far nicer weather than I did when I walked up to Alcock last Summer. It was blowing a gale and very wet.
Thank you. Yes, I've been up in those conditions as well, and I am convinced that Alfred Wainwright went in bad weather, as he called the tarn 'dreary'. The day of shooting was glorious throughout, and when conditions are like that, the views across the valley are wonderful.
Thank you. The views around Grasmere are very special. A winter video of the views from Helm Crag, opposite Alcock Tarn, will be posted in about a week. I think you will like that too.
Thank you Angela. I'm very much looking forward to the German Christmas Fair taking place in Windermere this December. Something new for us and it should be very interesting. Here is a link to the website windermere-ja.co.uk
Thank you. I love the hidden history of the fells. The wonderful weather and clear air on the day I shot it helped as well. Truly memorable. I'm pleased to be able to share that experience with so many people.
New subscriber! What a fantastic video, living in Cumbria it's super to learn all the insider and local stories. Love learning about these walks. Many thanks to you! ☺
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy them. As my old history teacher used to say, the best history is not in books, it is hidden away just around the next corner.
You have a sub from me I have really enjoyed not only watching your channel but learning so much along the way which make you completely different from all my other subs.I have walked many of the low fells over the years and now feel ready for high peaks I have been up scaffel pike via the corridor route and the old man also is there any others you could recommend that have no scrambling or dangerous edges as my head for heights is not great but I love the views and the journey.
Thank you Mitch. The easiest high fell of all is Skiddaw. Over 3,000 feet but a good path up and on a clear day stunning views all around. Blencathra via the Blease Fell route is also free of steep drops, easy to follow and has lovely views. On the edge of the Lake District is Black Combe. It has really extensive views as far as Wales and Scotland, and the path up is wide and easy to follow. Hope that helps. Enjoy your walks.
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed your days in the Lakes. Yes, I am well, and actually working on a number of Lake District related projects. I am juggling these with a few ongoing family issues that are tending to take up the greater amount of my time.
I'm planning on a couple of days wild camping at Alcock Tarn, starting 10 August. I expect it'll be busy in Grasmere,i hope a lot quieter up and out the way.
I wouldn't bet on it. If the weather is fine, this is a popular walk. On fine summer days a lot of people go up there to picnic, encouraged by the instructions on the National Trust web site. Quieter in the evenings though. The National Trust have a Wild Camping in the Lake District section on their website.
Thankyou Eric. I am aware of and respect the rules regards to wildcamping and countryside code. I would normally visit the lakes in spring or Autumn when its quieter. So i think i'll wait til a bit later to visit,i'm sure i'll enjoy it more.
I'm very like lake district national park please send more new video lake district because im didn't saw all the lake district because l m went just one day visited lm went lake district my mind very fresh felt

Thank you Kenny. This one was shot on the day of the referendum, with glorious weather and hardly anyone else around. It was great fun to do.
