      have to admit, it is pretty easy to aggravate players when you're using Kirby. Somehow he just feels so dirty. Like you're so small they can't hit you and then the down-b from above off the screen always is a perfect enraging revenge. throw in taunts and they will lose their mind.

      @Forthelemon 5 років тому +402

      @@mirewalker Smash is absolutely easier for beginners than traditional fighters. At top level play Smash is complicated, but the basic inputs are really easy for people with no fighting game experience. No quarter-circle inputs or anything, just press the button while holding the right direction. Hell, you can literally do everything with only three buttons (and analog stick).

    • @mirewalker
      @mirewalker 5 років тому +81

      Forthelemon Indeed, at a beginner level. I never argued otherwise. But at the top levels of play, I’d say Smash is not any less complicated in certain areas than other fighters. It’s easier in some, harder in others. Melee has more tech than just about any other fighter, Ultimate has more characters. I also don’t think it’s fair to say that because there aren’t quartercircle inputs it’s less “complicated.” Smash still has a shit ton of movement options, tilts, specials, tech, SDI, recovery, character match ups, etc. It’s plenty complicated. Smash also has a unique style of battle, and depleting a health bar is a lot easier for an inexperienced gamer to do than recovering off the stage; there are different hurdles for newcomers to overcome.

      @Museko 3 роки тому +5

      @@ledfloyd9035 Hey, I've been playing casually since 64 came out (actually a few years after since I was really young then) when I was a wee young lad. I played Melee and mostly just smash attacked a bunch. I did this in Brawl a bit but to a lesser extent. I thought that since I had been playing for a long time, I was at least decent at the game. When 12 year old me decided to try going online to battle someone. I was Kirby and stupidly tried to fight a much more experienced player after telling them I was good. Holy hell was I wrong. I still remembered that they played Falco and chain grabbed me to death on Final Destination for all of one match. I learned that I was not good at all and they mocked me a bit in chat and I got pretty sad and didn't play online again until Ultimate came out.
      I did play a bit of Brawl with some IRL friends but they were complete beginners and complained that I was a try hard even though I still sucked. I was always interested in Smash 4, but never got it. After Ultimate came out, I was heavily invested in the Switch and I always loved Smash reveals. The hype for the game won me over and I wasn't disappointed. I even played with a few uni friends after we graduated. I beat World of Light on hard, picked a few mains, and practiced a bit. I watched some Smash guides such as this and played against my uni friends. Eventually, I started incorporating small things, like teching to reduce lag, fast falling a lot more, and working on spacing in general A LOT. I would say I am actually quite decent so far. I probably couldn't hold a torch to pro level play, but I always feel like I've been steadily growing and gaining more experience with this game.
      I hope this helps if it isn't too late!

      Honestly, as a casual player/viewer of Smash (and someone who passed on Smash 4 because WiiU), I can safely say that Smash U teaches you fuck all outside of the very basics. I know there's a bunch of techs and stuff that the game has stashed away in the vaults, but that's a lot of reading, and the last thing anyone wants to do after getting a game is read. At least here we have visuals to demonstrate what proper execution looks like.

    Anyone else wish they had a "beginner to pro" sort of tutorial training feature? Where it actually runs you through the basics, and shows you the different stuff you can do without being left to figure it out by yourself? Like, have a tutorial about how to combo which caters to whichever character you select so it actually teaches you the strengths and weaknesses. Have a tutorial on how to edge guard or how to learn to counter in time or how not to dodge directly into an attack on accident cause how should you know what they were going to do? Not to mention, a lot of these tutorial videos use the terminology without explaining what it means or how to do it. They simply just tell you what it's good for, but that doesn't really help when you don't what they mean by stuff like teching and they don't tell you how to do it.
    And the deal with frames being so important doesn't help the feelings of frustration that inevitably come with those times where you press the button to do a move that would've saved you, but somehow you still got hit first. Because of that, timing is personally the hardest thing to learn about this game, since your brain attacks with the expectation that the attack will happen as soon as you hit the button and instead you need to learn to account for the delays so you don't do stuff too early or too late

    BEGINNERS! AS A FELLOW BEGINNER, YES, THIS IS A LOT. BUT FUNNY ENOUGH, YOU SEE THIS SAME SITUATION IN PROGRAMMING WHICH IS WHY I GIVE THIS ADVICE: The golden trick is to hop between the guide and matches. Mind that you're EXPECTED not to win. You won't remember everything on any given watch, hell, you won't remember most of it. But when you go between matches and the guide, everytime you watch the guide, you'll go "Oh! That would've been useful here!" and you'll slowly learn to use your kit. From there, it's practicing the controls.
